This special track will take place during ICL 2008 in Villach, Austria
(23-25 September 2009) as a special program item.
/The Special Track CAF 2009/ provides an interdisciplinary forum for
international scientists and practitioners to discuss various aspects of
computer-based knowledge & skill assessment in learning settings and
based on that feedback provision for students and teachers.
The /International Conference on Interactive Computer aided Learning
(ICL)/ is an interdisciplinary conference which aims to focus on the
exchange of relevant trends and research results as well as the
presentation of practical experiences in interactive computer aided
learning.
*Background*
Our modern life at the beginning of the 21st century is strongly
influenced by effects such as rapidly changing and developing
information, technology-enhanced communication and information access,
and new forms of production and services in a globalized world. This
situation requires individuals to adapt their skills and competencies.
Consequently, educational objectives and societal expectations have
changed significantly in recent years. Modern learning settings must
consider learning community aspects as well as learner-centered,
knowledge-centered and assessment-centered aspects.
By focusing on the assessment, this concept can be further distinguished
in (1) summative assessment, performed at the end of a set of learning
activities, and (2) formative assessment, which is intended to give
continuous feedback to students and teachers. The latter mentioned
formative assessment gives information about the current state of
knowledge and/or the degree of knowledge acquisition within learning
activities.
Assessment is an important component of modern teaching and learning
processes in face-to-face courses as well as in e-learning environments;
it provides valuable feedback to teachers and students which allows the
revision and adaptation of teaching and learning activities.
Furthermore, assessment activities and results can also be utilized for
building and strengthening metacognitive skills. However, continuous and
frequent assessment in learning processes may cause excessive efforts
and costs. Therefore, computer-assisted assessment systems (CaAS) and
computer-based assessment systems (CbAS) have become of increasing
interest over the years. Assessment systems may support parts or the
entire chain of the assessment lifecycle. This lifecycle includes
authoring and management of assessment items, compilation of specific
tests, performance of assessments, and compilation and management
results. Additionally, emerging interest in the sharing and re-use of
assessment items or compiled assessment tests and the exchangeability of
assessment outcomes has resulted in standardization efforts, such as the
IMS Question & Test Interoperability Specification (IMS QTI).
The special track will bring together international researchers as well
as practitioners from different organisations who will have plenty of
time for networking and real-world knowledge sharing.
We invite submissions that deal with issues including, but not limited to:
* Aspects of formative and summative assessment
* History and challenges of e-assessment
* Computer-supported assessment rubric
* Computer-based knowledge & skill assessment for individuals and groups
* Computer-supported peer assessment for individuals and groups

Workshop Description
--------------------
Massive amount of data and information created by the collaboration and
competition of many individuals is available on
the Web. Collective Knowledge is generated in a process that includes
analysis and, in many cases, integration of
multiple data sources. However, integration of massive or multiple data
sources is just a prerequisite for creating
Collective Knowledge. As named by Tom Gruber, this is Collected Knowledge
(or Collected Intelligence). It becomes
Collective Knowledge when new levels of understanding of such knowledge
emerge, when "wisdom of the masses" creates new
values.
The focus of the workshop lies on how new knowledge can be discovered in
such datasets, which processes are to be used
to harvest the new knowledge, how and in which order the processes are to
be applied, and finally, how the resulting
Collective Knowledge can be represented.
Not all models and representations for Collective Knowledge are created
equal and what is easy and natural in one model
can be even impossible in the other one. Within the scope of the CKCaR
workshop we are specifically interested in the
processes that lead to the capturing and creation of this new knowledge
and models for representing it. We encourage the
presentation and exploration of original work in capturing and
representing collective knowledge and expect to stimulate
further research in this area.
More information at:
http://www.uni-koblenz.de/confsec/CKCaR09/
Workshop Topics
---------------
Topics of the workshop are within the area of knowledge capturing and
representation on the massive scale. They include
but are not limited to:
* Methods for extracting Collective Knowledge from mass data input
* Analysis and processing of mass data
* Representation of Collective Knowledge (methods, models, techniques)
* Modeling and Handling of inconsistencies or contradictions in Collective
Knowledge
* Applications that leverage of Collective Knowledge
* Measuring of the quality of Collective Knowledge

DESCRIPTION
There is often a large number of association rules discovered
in data mining practice, making it difficult for users to
identify those that are of particular interest to them.
Therefore, it is important to remove insignificant rules and
prune redundancy as well as summarize, visualize, and
post-mine the discovered rules.
Post-Mining of Association Rules: Techniques for Effective
Knowledge Extraction provides a systematic collection on
post-mining, summarization and presentation of association
rules, and new forms of association rules. This book presents
researchers, practitioners, and academicians with tools to
extract useful and actionable knowledge after discovering
a large number of association rules.
********************
"This book examines the post-analysis and post-mining of
association rules to find useful knowledge from a large
number of discovered rules and presents a systematic view
of the above topic."
- Yanchang Zhao, University of Technology Sydney, Australia
********************
TOPICS COVERED

***********************************************************
The Workshop on Domain Driven Data Mining (DDDM) series
aims to provide a premier forum for sharing findings,
knowledge, insight, experience and lessons in tackling
potential challenges in discovering actionable knowledge
from complex domain problems, promoting interaction and
filling the gap between academia and business, and driving
a paradigm shift from data-centered hidden pattern mining
to domain-driven actionable knowledge delivery in varying
data mining domains toward supporting smart decision and
businesses.
Following the success of DDDM2007 joint with SIGKDD2007 in
the US and DDDM2008 joint with ICDM2008 in Italy, DDDM2009

- to devise domain-driven data mining techniques to bridge
the gap between a converted problem and its actual
business problem, between academic objectives and
business goals, between technical significance and
business interest, and between identified patterns and
business expected deliverables, toward strengthening
business intelligence in complex enterprise applications;
