International Journal of Accounting Information Systems
Special Issue on Business Process Modeling
Business Process Modeling or BPM has become an essential part of a wide range of applications including enterprise systems development, business process analysis, business process management, and business process reengineering. The goal of this special issue is to present the state-of-the-art in BPM research. We will consider research papers of high quality that address any BPM related issue, regardless of research methods. Research questions that could be addressed in this special issue include, but are not limited to:
* The ontological foundation of BPM notations: what is a business process and what elements are needed to represent it. Related research questions include: (a) an in-depth study of the nature of business processes, (b) the formal specification of BPM semantics, and (c) integration of the different dimensions of business processes and their specifications: why, what, and how?
* Standardization of BPM notations.
* BPM reference models and best practices for specific industries or application domains.
* The role of BPM within enterprise architectures and its role in business/IT alignment.
* The evolution of business process specifications and their adaptation to emerging technologies such as Model-Driven Architectures, Service-Oriented Architectures, and the Semantic Web. More specifically, to what extent do such emerging technologies enable the execution of more complex, inter-organizational, and semantically enhanced business process definitions.
* Empirical verification of BPM notations and BPM methods. What notations and methods work in practice, under what conditions, and for which applications?

August 12-15, 2010
Lima, Peru
============================================================
Mini-track: Master Data Management: Strategies, Concepts and Cases
Track: Data and Information Quality
============================================================
MINI-TRACK DESCRIPTION
Master data management is referred to as an application-independent
function which describes and manages the business data resource in an
organization. It ensures high quality of master data by providing
guidelines for its management and it creates a common view on the data.
Recently, master data management has received much attention from
business. A major reason for this is the important role high-quality
master data plays with regard to a number of business drivers. Among
them are compliance to regulatory requirements, integrated customer
management and the need of a āsingle source of the truthā for
company-wide reporting purposes. Despite the relevance of master data
quality, current efforts in practice leave much to be desired. Moreover,
the topic has been discussed in the information systems (IS) research
area to a marginal extent only so far.
The proposed mini-track addresses this gap and aims at giving a forum
for novel concepts and research work in the following areas:
* Strategies for master data management
* Master data centric business scenarios and use cases
* Cost and benefit analysis for master data management
* Application of valuation theories of master data management
* Organizational concepts for master data management
* Human factors in master data management
* Master data governance
* Master data compliance
* Master data quality
* Master data security and privacy aspects
* Master data lifecycle management
* Master data architectures including reference architectures and
architecture patterns
* Master data management deployment methods
* Business metadata management
* Standardization activities
* Data modeling for master data
* Master data and service-orientation
* Software architectures
* Patterns for data distribution and data synchronization
* Case studies and applications
* Industry specific aspects of master data management
The mini-track welcomes innovative research papers from both the
academic and the practitionersā community.

5th International Workshop on
BUSiness/IT Alignment and Interoperability
BUSITAL'10
June 7th 2010
http://www.info.fundp.ac.be/BUSITAL2010/
On behalf of the organizing Committee, we would like to invite you to
submit a paper for the 5th International Workshop on Business/IT
Alignment and Interoperability BUSITAL'10 to be held, in conjunction
with the CAISE'10 conference, at Hammamet, Tunisia during
Monday June 7th 2010.
Scope and Purpose
Organizations are today becoming more and more dependent on their
information systems and IT-based support systems to realize their
business strategies, building value networks with partners, and
managing their resources effectively. But ensuring that their IT
investments are well aligned is not easy. Such alignment is a critical
early stage activity to understand how information systems contribute
to business strategy and to set directions for the development and
maintenance processes that follow. Its requires a good understanding
and solving of issues at all levels ranging from information
technology issues, through organizational issues up to business and
strategic issues, and the ability to rapidly, smoothly and
consistently adapt all these.
A number of frameworks and methods have been designed to help managers
in aligning business and IT. Recently, novel methods and techniques
based on conceptual and enterprise modeling have been proposed to
support mutual alignment between business needs and IT solutions.
The overall objective of the workshop is to bring together a larger
community (both Information Systems and Information Management)
contributing to exploring the benefits, challenges and solutions of
business and IT alignment.
Topics of interest:
* Frameworks, techniques and methods for capturing, understanding and
representing business strategy and its impact on information systems
landscapes;
* Systems, methodologies and frameworks for guiding information system
design using relevant information in business strategy models/
definitions, including traceability issues;
* Models, methods, and tools for indicating, analyzing, and measuring
alignment ;
* Solutions for guiding information systems evolution and adaptation
using relevant information in business strategy models/definitions,
including IT governance;
* Case studies and empirical reports on the benefits and costs of
alignment;
* Business/IT alignment in organizational networks, including
co-creation of value through global networks;
* Alignment issues in Service-Oriented analysis and design.

CALL FOR PAPERS - International Workshop on The Future of the Web for
Collaborative Science 2010
=================================================================================================
The First International Workshop on The Future of the Web for
Collaborative Science (http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLS/WWW2010/Workshop),
co-located with WWW'10, April 27 or 28 2010, Raleigh, NC, USA
---------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
The Web was originally invented with the physics community in mind, but
rapidly expanded to include other scientific disciplines, in particular
the health care and life sciences. By the mid 1990s the Web was already
being used to share data by biomedical professionals and
bioinformaticians. The Web continues to be immensely important to these
fields, however use cases have expanded considerably. Researchers are
now looking to share extremely large data sets on the Web, extract
insights from vast numbers of papers cross sub-disciplines, and use
social networking tools to aggregate data and engage in scientific
discussion. Furthermore, individuals are beginning to store their
medical records online, and some are sharing their genetic makeup in a
bid to find others with a similar profile. These use cases are pushing
the boundaries of what is currently possible with the Web. This half-day
workshop will present how scientists are currently using the Web, and
discuss the functionality that is required to make the Web an ideal
platform for both cutting edge scientific collaboration and for managing
health care related data.
The goals of this workshop are the following:
* Foster innovation in applying the latest web technologies to
collaborative HCLS
* Explore HCLS specific requirements for collaborating on the web, e.g.
trust, privacy, intellectual property, knowledge management, and the
scale and diversity of data
* Learn about the latest developments in data modeling, tools and
technologies for web-based collaborative science
* Bridge communication and knowledge transfer between the HCLS and web
communities
---------------------------------------------------
TOPICS FOR PAPER SUBMISSION
We would encourage submission of papers covering the following topics:
* Web 2.0 applications for large, heterogeneous and complex data sets
* Models for collaborative scientific annotations
* Tools and applications for aggregating information across web sites
* Provenance, attribution, trust, and intellectual property
* Policy for data access, sharing, and anonymization
We seek three kinds of submissions:
* Full technical papers: up to 10 pages
* Short technical and position papers: up to 5 pages
* Demo description: up to 2 pages
---------------------------------------------------
