11 November 2010 conference
Aims and objectives
Modern day enterprises, be they businesses, organisations, or government departments, are in
a constant state of flux. New technologies, new markets, globalisation, mergers, acquisitions,
etcetera are among the "usual suspects" which require enterprises to transform themselves to
deal with these challenges and new realities. Most information systems practitioners will find
themselves working in a context of enterprise transformation. One could even go as far as to
claim that a business oriented perspective on information systems is really about enterprise
transformation, where enterprise transformation involves the use of methods and techniques
from enterprise engineering, enterprise modelling, enterprise architecture, and information
systems engineering. As a field of study, enterprise transformation requires a close interaction
between practice and academia. What works and does not work requires validation in real-life
situations. Conversely, it is in industrial practice where challenges can be found that may fuel
and inspire researchers. The PRET working conferences are set up as a one day event in such
a way that it attracts an audience from both industry and academia. PRET 2010 is a continuation
of the PRET 2009 working conference which was organised as the industrial track at the 2009
CAiSE conference. The PRET 2010 working conference will be organised as part of the
enterprise engineering week, and will be co-located with PoEM 2010 and TEAR 2010 in Delft.
The most up-to-date information about PRET can always be found at:
http://pret.enterpriseengineeringnetwork.org.

Event Format:
PRET is a highly interactive event. The conference will be organized at a venue that stimulates
discussion and open exchange of ideas and experiences. In addition to highly interactive
paper sessions the event will include a number of parallel think-tank sessions focusing on
various topics, aiming for further development of issues and directions shared between practice
and academia.
Paper types:
Papers should reflect the mission of PRET, which is bringing together academia and the
industry regarding the indicated topics. Papers should stimulate the discussion and the
synergy between these two ?worlds?, with the ultimate objective of improving the field of
enterprise transformation. Typical papers describe: real-life case studies, challenges from
industry for the academic world, practical applications of theory and/or quantitative research
results regarding enterprise transformation. Paper submission from industry as well as from
young researchers (MSc. graduates, young PhD researchers) is strongly encouraged.
Research results can be described in an elaborated way, since the typical paper length PRET is
aiming for is 25-30 pages. Accepted papers will be included in the proceedings as a chapter.
Submission guidelines
Abstracts of proposed chapters, as well as the final chapters, should be submitted in PDF format
via the submission website: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=pret2010. Chapter
proposals should describe innovative and significant original research relevant to the PRET
themes as discussed in the topics section. Work submitted for consideration must not have
been published elsewhere and must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere
during the duration of consideration. All submissions should include title, authors, and full
contact information. Detailed instructions for authors are available on the LNBIP website:
http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-487211-0. Authors should expect their

Important Dates:
25th January 2010 - paper submission
15th February 2010 - notification of acceptance
3rd March 2010 - camera-ready
8th May 2010 - workshop
Software Development Governance is the key meeting point between software
development processes and the business and regulatory context in which these
processes must operate. Software organizations need to perform in a complex and
demanding environment, and they are required to deliver more value in an
effective and efficient manner while controlling the operational risks and
meeting regulations. Studies show that effective governance is one of the key
mechanisms by which organizations can guarantee meeting their business goals.
Implementing governance in software projects enhances the ability to deal with
risks and supports consistent decision making. These decisions are part of the
development process e.g., business and organizational decisions that impact the
technical decisions concerned with the product architecture and the product
quality.
The main goal of the workshop is to explore the relationship between business
goals, organizational structure, and software development governance and the
ways effective technical practices can be achieved given a particular set of
goals and a particular organizational structure.
We invite papers that deal topics related to software development governance,
including (but not limited to):
* Governance models and frameworks
* Development environment support for software development governance
* Governance mechanisms (policies, controls and measurements) that relate to
contemporary software development projects and organizations
* Governance roles and responsibilities in software development settings
* The lifecycle of software development governance
* Ways to assess software development governance and its effects
* Enforcement of architectural and design authority
* Managing exceptions in complex processes
* Governance in highly regulated environments
* Methods and tools to define and deploy software development governance
approaches
* Mining development processes
* The evolution of development processes
* Governance in software teams: distributed teams, agile teams, large-scale
projects
* The role of software development governance in achieving the business value
and risk associated with projects including crisis management
* Effective measurement of software development governance
* Risk and valuation techniques for software development governance
* Individual, societal, ethical or cultural issues raised by software
development governance
* Methods for increasing the awareness of the relationship between business,
organizational, governance and the achievement of technical goals
* Organizational structures appropriate to development processes
* Balancing the need for oversight and managerial control with agile
development
* Governance in outsourced and federated development
Submission Guidelines
Submissions should be full research papers or short papers describing
work-in-progress, or new ideas relevant to governance of software development.
Papers must conform to the ICSE proceedings publication format and should not
exceed 8 pages for full paper and 4 pages for short paper, including all text,
references, appendices, and figures. Electronic submission is available through
ICSE Cyberchair site.
Submissions will be evaluated according to the relevance and originality of the
work and to their ability to generate discussions between the participants of
the workshop.

PURPOSE / HISTORY:
This set of joint conferences is the largest annual gathering
of researchers in computer science, computer engineering and
applied computing. We anticipate to have 2,000 or more
attendees from over 85 countries participating at the Congress.
A number of individual research tracks of WORLDCOMP have been
held for many years; for example, PDPTA has been held annually
since 1995 (PDPTA'10 is the 16th annual conference); ERSA has
been held annually since 2001 (ERSA'10 is the 10th annual
conference); ICAI has been held annually since 1999 (ICAI'10
is the 12th annual conference); other tracks of WORLDCOMP
Congress have similar records.
The motivation behind this federated conference is to assemble
a spectrum of affiliated research conferences into a coordinated
research meeting held in a common place at a common time. The
main goal is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in a
number of research areas that interact. The model used to form
these annual conferences facilitates communication among
researchers from all over the world in different fields of
computer science, computer engineering and applied computing.
Both inward research (core areas of computer science and
engineering) and outward research (multi-disciplinary,
inter-disciplinary, and applications) will be covered during
the conferences. The Congress makes concerted effort to reach
out to participants affiliated with diverse entities (such as:
universities, institutions, corporations, government agencies,
and research centers/labs) from all over the world.
WORLDCOMP'10 will be composed of research presentations, keynote
lectures, invited presentations, tutorials, panel discussions,
and poster presentations. In recent past, keynote/tutorial/panel
speakers have included: Prof. David A. Patterson (pioneer/computer
architecture, U. of California, Berkeley), Dr. K. Eric Drexler
(known as Father of Nanotechnology), Prof. John H. Holland (known
as Father of Genetic Algorithms; U. of Michigan), Prof. Ian Foster
(known as Father of Grid Computing; U. of Chicago & ANL),
Prof. Ruzena Bajcsy (pioneer/VR, U. of California, Berkeley),
Prof. Barry Vercoe (Founding member of MIT Media Lab, MIT),
Dr. Jim Gettys (known as X-man, developer of X Window System,
xhost; OLPC), Prof. John Koza (known as Father of Genetic
Programming, Stanford U.), Prof. Brian D. Athey (NIH Program
Director, U. of Michigan), Prof. Viktor K. Prasanna (pioneer,
U. of Southern California), Dr. Jose L. Munoz (NSF Program
Director and Consultant), Prof. Jun Liu (Broad Institute of
MIT & Harvard U.), Anousheh Ansari (CEO, Prodea Systems & first
female private space explorer), and many other distinguished
speakers. To get a feeling about the conferences' atmosphere,

EDOC conferences address the full range of engineering technologies and
methods contributing to intra- and inter-enterprise distributed
application systems. EDOC 2010 will be the fourteenth event in the series
of conferences. Since 1997, EDOC has brought together leading computer
science researchers, IT decision makers, IT architects, solution designers
and practitioners to discuss enterprise computing challenges, models and
solutions from the perspectives of academia, industry and government.
Enterprise computing is based on a wide (and ever growing) range of
methods, models, tools and technologies. The resulting applications also
cover a broad spectrum of vertical domains and industry segments, from
electronic and mobile commerce to real-time business applications for
collaborating enterprises. In recent years, technologies related to
business processes integration, management, execution and monitoring have
become some of the top areas of interest in enterprise computing.
Today, the creation, operation and evolution of enterprise computing
systems create challenges that range from high-level requirements and
policy modeling to the deployment and maintenance of solutions in and
across customer businesses.
The IEEE EDOC Conference emphasizes a holistic view on enterprise
applications engineering and management, fostering integrated approaches
that can address and relate processes, people and technology. The themes
of openness and distributed computing, based on services, components and
objects, provide a useful and unifying conceptual framework.
IEEE EDOC 2010 welcomes high quality scientific submissions as well as
papers on enterprise computing industry experiences.
Expert panel discussions and keynotes will address hot topics and issues
in the domain.
*ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS*
Workshops complement IEEE EDOC's main scientific program with
presentations and discussions of both mature and preliminary project
results, ideas, experiences, and knowledge in a way that is more
interactive and more focused than paper sessions in the main conference
program. To foster this interactivity and focus, workshops target a
narrower range of topics and have smaller number of participants (often
around 20 or more) compared to the main conference.
EDOC 2010 workshops will result in useful exchanges of ideas, improvement
of understanding of topics and issues, and clearer identification of
important open research issues and possible approaches towards their
solution. They will not only cover in-depth study of research issues, but
also address relevant issues for enterprise computing practice. Workshops
can discuss emerging topics and technologies that are already raising
interest of the broader enterprise computing community. They can also be
used as an opportunity for participants to coordinate efforts and
establish collaborations.
*STRUCTURE OF EDOC 2010 WORKSHOPS*
Workshops should be organized in a manner that fosters discussions among
participants and active engagement of participants. In this respect, each
EDOC 2010 workshop should have at least one discussion session that
complements sessions with presentations of peer-reviewed full and short
workshop papers. To facilitate discussion of recent research results and
ongoing projects, workshops should accept short papers (4 pages in the
IEEE-CS format), in addition to full papers (8 pages in the IEEE-CS
format) describing more mature results.
Workshop proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society and
included in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library(CSDL) and the IEEE
Xplore.
All submissions to workshops must comply with the IEEE Computer Society
conference proceedings format guidelines
http://www2.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting) (please use the
latest template as there have been updates recently).
Submissions must be in English.
At least 1 workshop chair has to be present at the workshop. At least 1
author of each accepted workshop paper will have to register for the whole
EDOC conference and attend the workshop to present the paper. (Analogously
to previous years, there will be no workshop-only registration at EDOC.)
IEEE reserves the right to exclude a paper from distribution after the
conference (e.g., removal from IEEE Xplore) if the paper is not presented
at the workshop. Similarly, all other workshop participants, including
chairs and keynote speakers (if any), should register for the whole EDOC
conference. No workshop costs (e.g., related to workshop chairs or keynote
speakers) can be covered by the EDOC conference.
All EDOC 2010 workshops must have an informative Web page. In addition,
the workshop chairs should vigorously advertise the workshop and the whole
EDOC 2010 conference through all relevant distribution channels.
EDOC workshops will normally last 1 day. However, it is also possible to
organize half-day or 2-day workshops.
*WORKSHOP PROPOSAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES*
We invite proposals for EDOC 2010 workshops satisfying the above general
criteria. Workshop proposal submissions in PDF or TXT should be e-mailed
to the EDOC 2010 Workshops Chair Dr. Maria-Eugenia Iacob (m.e.iacob at
utwente.nl) with Subject line "EDOC 2010 Workshop Proposal Submission".
Submission of a workshop proposal implies commitment to organize and hold
this workshop at EDOC 2010 if the proposal is accepted. It also implies
commitment to common EDOC 2010 workshop deadlines (listed below) for
submission of workshop papers, notification of acceptance, and preparation
of workshop proceedings.
The received workshop proposals will be reviewed by EDOC 2010 organizers
and all suitable proposals will be accepted into the EDOC 2010 program.
The selection of workshops will be based primarily on the timeliness and
expected interest in the workshop topic within the broader enterprise
computing community, fit of the workshop within the scope of the EDOC
conference, and its potential to contribute to the productive exchange of
knowledge and ideas. Workshop chairs' ability (e.g., experience) to
organize a successful workshop (particularly, to attract sufficient number
of paper submissions and participants) will be also taken into
consideration.
Each workshop proposal should contain the following information:
Title of the workshop
1.Proposed duration of the workshop
2.Name, affiliation, and e-mail addresses of the workshop chairs
3.Extended abstract (about 500-1000 words; approximately 1-2 pages) of the
workshop, explaining importance of the workshop topics, fit within and
complementarity with the EDOC 2010 conference, intended audience, and
other relevant issues that are not adequately covered in the preliminary
Call for Papers
4.Preliminary Call for Papers (not all Program Committee members have to
be confirmed at the workshop proposal submission time, although it is
certainly beneficial to have some preliminary acceptances)
5.Information about distribution channels (e.g., list-servs) that will be
used for advertising the workshop
6.History of the workshop (if it was held before)
7.Short biographies (about 200 words each) of all workshop chairs,
including information about past experience in organizing/chairing
conferences and workshops
*EDOC WORKSHOP DEADLINES*

Inter-Organizational Information Systems and Business Management:
Theories for Researchers
A book edited by Dr. Kishor Vaidya, University of Canberra, Australia
http://www.igi-global.com/requests/details.asp?ID=755
Introduction
Recent studies indicate that the assimilation of Web-based
inter-organizational information systems (IOIS) into mainstream business
is occurring at a much slower than expected pace and the implementation
and use of them has not been smooth with business press reporting a number
of failures of IOIS initiatives in public and private sector agencies.
While in some cases this may be due to various technology and business
process risks, most often the reasons are rooted in social and contextual
issues including internal and external business risks. As IOIS is a
multidisciplinary area with a strong commitment to theory-based and
industry-relevant practice and research, it allows multiple theories and
perspectives to be used in the identification, understanding, and
mitigation of various risks in order to increase efficiency,
effectiveness, and other indicators of organizational performance.
Using multiple theories broadens our appreciation of IOIS and opens up new
ideas and possibilities for change and transformation in business
management. Theories can also help reason through complex situations and
make us aware of the assumptions and values underlying our practice.
Theories provide means to form meaningful conclusions to understand the
underlying causes of phenomena, which in turn influence how researchers
carry out their research and leaders design and manage their information
systems.
Objective of the Book
This book will aim to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the
latest empirical research findings in the area. It will be written for
research students and their supervisors who are always in search of
relevant theories to carry out their research, and for practitioners who
want to improve their understanding of information systems and their
impact on business performance. An understanding of IOIS and related
organizational theories is important to the work of all business and IT
professionals, including executive managers who determine the
organisation's strategic direction, information professionals who design
and deliver new information services, and business managers who use
information systems for change management and business reporting.
Various organizational theories have been developed, which try to explain
the relevant behaviors and activities within the organizations adopting or
using various information systems. However, only some of the theories have
been consistently tested to be valid and influential over time. The
purpose of this book is to highlight the most influential organizational
theories and their applications in IOIS and Business Management.
Target Audience
The target audience of this book will be composed of professionals and
researchers working in the field of IOIS and business management in
various disciplines, for example information technology, information and
communication sciences, administrative sciences and management, supply
chain/logistics management, public procurement, customer relationship
management, knowledge management, and e-business/e-government.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Theories of Technology Assimilation
Theory of Reasoned Action
Technology Acceptance Model
DeLone and McLean Information Systems Success Model
Network Externality/Critical Mass Theory
Diffusion of Innovation Theory
Transaction Cost Theory
Social Exchange Theory
Institutional Theory
Structurational Theory of IT Assimilation
Stakeholder Theory
Resistance Theory
Resource-based Theory
Process/Task-Technology-Fit Theory
We believe that each of the theories mentioned above offers its own focus
and explanation, predictive power and frameworks for the study of IOIS
from multiple perspectives. Furthermore, a set of these theories when
integrated and adapted can provide a systematic frame of reference for
investigating the implementation of IOIS initiatives. While each of the
theories has individually received attention in prior innovation/IOIS
literature, they have not yet been collectively brought together into a
single book.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December
15, 2009, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals
will be notified by January 15, 2009 about the status of their proposals
and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by
April 15, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind

AIMS, SCOPE AND TOPICS
In our society which has already turned to a service providing society,
the technical aspects as well as the human, social and economic aspects
must be considered together. This has already resulted in considerable
research on these aspects that are related to disciplines like Information
Systems, Software Engineering and Service Science, as for example, how
empirical research should be conducted, what are the conditions for
"valid" knowledge, and which the scope of theories in these fields are.
These are elements that are of interest from perspectives as diverse as
philosophy, engineering and technology.
For example, the material and temporal entities that are dealt with in the
field are a matter of ontology, and the conditions for credibility of
statements and research methods are a matter of epistemology. Hence the
relationship and influences between software, information systems and
service science will be studied from an ontological view point, but with a
broad perspective under which researchers with different background can
meet and truly multi-disciplinary issues can arise.
As in the previous editions the main goal of this event is to allow
challenging and promising cross-fertilization over multidisciplinary
research areas to be tackled and investigated by all the participants. The
design of systems in which parts have complex interactions, more and more
the understanding of theoretical, epistemological and conceptual
frameworks coming from the human and social sciences.
Topics therefore include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Ontology and formal ontology representations of Software Engineering,
Systems Engineering, Service Engineering and Information Systems.
- Studies and essays about metrics, indicators and general issues
regarding research on Software, Services and Systems Engineering.
- Conceptualizations, bodies of knowledge or schemas for software
engineering, service engineering and information systems.
- Applications that deal with representations of concepts and relations of
the disciplines.
- Social, psychological and organizational issues about the disciplines.
- Epistemological and philosophical aspect of software and service
development.
- Architectural patterns and ontologies for the design of high-quality
services.
- UML and other modelling frameworks for services.
- Ontologies in requirements engineering, intensional and goal modelling
in
the context of services
- Ontology driven development of service software.
- Natural language verbalization of service ontologies.
- Social, technical and economic impacts on IS and service sciences.
- Ontologies and models for the Quality of service.
- Ontologies and models representing customer issues.
- Ontologies and process models.
- Ontologies and models to improve the service efficiency
- Models of Software as a Service (SaaS)
- Models and ontologies related to the Internet of Services and Things
- Semantic Integrity of static and dynamic aspects
