First Announcement and Call for Papers
*Invitation and Call for Contributions *
The 2009 EDEN Annual Conference
<http://www.eden-online.org/eden.php?menuId=410> in Gdansk will address
the significance and impact of *learning innovation* in Europe.
Europe needs a *strategic approach* to boost its capacity for creativity
for a flexible, competitive and open economy. Pathways to novel
solutions must be significantly shortened. In this process, *Lifelong
Learning and ICT are key boosters of change*.
Education and training systems are however still inadequately equipped
to face this challenge. Substantial learning innovation is needed for
which the knowledge base is now only fragmentary.
*/There are important questions to answer:/*
* How to empower innovation within the huge diversity of different
learning situations and settings?
* How is it possible to measure creativity and innovation in
learning systems?
* How can we evaluate learning results if traditional learning
objectives are not the only ones to be measured?
* How to measure collaborative learning efforts?
* How to use existing and emerging technologies to create new value
for learning?
* What are the key drivers for competitiveness and innovation in
learning?
*What did you invent for tomorrow?*
We invite you to join EDEN in Gdansk, the *"Hub of E-learning
Innovation"* in June 2009, to make the EDEN Conference once again the
leading showcase of progressive ideas and inventions, which may develop
into valuable innovations.
* Come and share: *what did you invent for tomorrow?*
* Ask speakers and colleagues about what you consider important that
needs to be invented and implemented in technology enabled
learning environments!
* Learn about *trends in innovation* and creativity for education!
* Exploit the unique networking, partnership building and
collaboration opportunities!
For details on how to submit contributions to the conference please
visit this link <http://www.eden-online.org/eden.php?menuId=430>.
*Deadline for contributions (including workshop ideas, posters and short
demonstrations) is **16 January 2009*.
*Gdansk, the Conference Venue*
Gdansk <http://www.eden-online.org/eden.php?menuId=432>, the capital of
the "Pomerania"region is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland and
also in Northern-Europe. One of the *most attractive Hansa cities*,
Gdansk enjoys the combination of beauty of landscape, architecture and
history, as well as being a busy seaport, a centre of science, education
and culture. With splendour and unique atmosphere, offering exceptional
cultural experience, nice handicraft, fine cafés and restaurants, it is
a city you will love.
In 1980 Lech Walesa founded here in the shipyard the *"Solidarity"
*movement, which supported the development of democratic progress in
Poland and Central Europe, and influenced finally the whole world.
The new *Gdansk Music and Congress Centre* and the next door *Polish
Maritime Museum* with picturesque architecture, in the heart of the Old
Town will host the EDEN 2009 Conference.
The *University of Gdansk* is the largest higher education institution
in Pomeranian region, offering the possibility of studying in almost
thirty different fields of knowledge. Being driver of innovation, and
incubator of entrepreneurship, it is implementing joint research
programmes and other projects under eighteen international agreements.
Gdansk has direct flight connections <http://www.airport.gdansk.pl/>
with over 25 European airports. Ferry or railway connections from
Copenhagen and Stockholm may also be used.

***************************************************************************************************
Recently, wireless mesh networking is attracting significant interest from academia,
industry, and standard organizations. With several favorable characteristics, such
as dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance,
high scalability and reliable services, wireless mesh networks have been advocated
as a cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and
ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking, enterprise networking,
or community networking. Despite recent advances, and the technical accumulations
from more than a decade's research effort in mobile ad hoc networks, many research
issues remain in all protocol layers of wireless mesh networks. For example, the
introducing of mixed (infrastructure and ad hoc) architecture, multi-radio,
multi-channel, and multi-antenna, have brought new challenges in the design of
physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application scenarios, such as all-wireless
office, are urging researchers to address enhanced QoS support and various security
issues in the design of different protocol layers for wireless mesh networks.
This workshop aims to bring together the technologies and researchers who share
interest in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. The main purpose is to
promote discussions of research and relevant activities in the design of architectures,
protocols, algorithms, services, and applications for wireless networks. It also aims
at increasing the synergy between academic and industry professionals working in this
area. We plan to seek papers that address theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress
at the all layers of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks, from application layer to the
physical layer.
Topics covered by the workshop will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Multi-radio and multi-channel wireless mesh networking
- Multi-hop wireless communications and ad hoc networking
- MAC protocols (IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, 802.20, and beyond)
- Routing, scheduling, and channel assignment protocols
- Quality of Services provisioning
- Multimedia communications over mesh and ad hoc networks
- Network deployment, localization, and synchronization
- Topology construction and maintenance
- Modeling and performance evaluations
- Cross layer optimizations
- Power-aware and energy-efficient protocols and algorithms
- Intelligent system techniques for mesh and ad hoc networks
- Testbed, prototype, and practical systems
- Novel applications of mesh and ad hoc networks
- Vehicular mesh and ad hoc networks
- Wireless sensor networks
- Self-adaptive and self-organizing wireless networking systems
Important Dates
-----------------------
- Paper submission due: December 7, 2008
- Acceptance notification: February 7, 2009
- Camera-ready due: March 7, 2009
- Workshop: June 26, 2009
Submissions and Publications
--------------------------------------------
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished research and
recent developments in the topics related to the workshop. Submissions should include
an abstract, key words, the e-mail address of the corresponding author. The length of
the papers should be limited to 6 pages in standard IEEE camera-ready format
(double-column, 10-pt font). Authors must submit their papers through the CMT conference
management site (https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/WIMAN2009). Submission of a paper
should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one
of the authors will register and attend the workshop to present the work.
All papers will be peer reviewed and the reviewers' comments will be provided to the authors.
All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings by IEEE Computer Society

Betreff: [WI] CfP: Software ENgineering within Social software
Environments (SENSE) at SE2009

CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Software ENgineering within Social software
Environments (SENSE09)
http://www.prolearn-academy.org/Events/sense09
The SENSE workshop is held in conjunction with the Conference on Software
Engineering
(SE 2009 - http://www.se2009.de/),
Fraunhofer Institute Experimental Software Engineering, Kaiserslautern,
Germany, March 2-6, 2009
CONTEXT AND MOTIVATION
Due to the new business models of the Web 2.0 and the new generation of Web
users the development of social software requires a new SE approach. At the
same time social software brings new possibilities for the SE process.
Building on the positive experiences from the open source community we
propose the term social software engineering which should include both Web
2.0 style engineering and engineering of the social software. Communication
between different stakeholders, developers and end-users is an essential
aspect for successful software engineering (SE). SE presents a social
process that has to be supported by the communication enabling tools.
SE-participants can express their opinion and exchange their ideas. With the
globalization of software production, the social software can serve as a
good option for socialization of SE processes.
Special about social software is, firstly, its meritocracy; secondly, its
extreme user-orientation and, thirdly, its focus on emerging scale-free
structures. However, it is not enough to create tools using Web 2.0 business
models. The development of social software is a social process itself. Using
certain social software for SE, a community experiences endless evolution
and requires continuous adaptation of tools to their changing needs.
Therefore, the development of social software opens a new challenge for
design of SE.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together the researchers and practices
interested in engineering process of social software, which in turn
should/could be applied during software engineering. During the workshop a
state-of-the-art discussion on advanced research and open issues on social
software engineering will take place. The special focus will be put on
design process and design guidelines of social systems created for SE
support.
Workshop topics include but not limited to the following:
* Software engineering of social software
* Software engineering within social software
* Requirements engineering of social software
* Requirements engineering within social software
* Context-adaptive interaction
* Cooperative information systems
* Web 2.0 technologies
* Community-aware systems

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM at ICSE'09
http://www.cs.uoregon.edu/events/icse2009/calls/DC/
31st International Conference on Software Engineering,
Vancouver, Canada, May 16-24, 2009
GOAL AND SCOPE
The ICSE Doctoral Symposium is a forum for mid-level PhD students to
present and discuss their software engineering research in a critical but
supportive environment. The symposium aims to broaden the perspectives and
improve the skills of these students as a way to contribute both to the
individuals and also to the broader software engineering research
community. Students receive guidance and feedback on various aspects of
their research from established researchers and the other student
attendees.
The forum is intended for students who have a specific research proposal
and some preliminary results, but with sufficient time prior to
dissertation completion to benefit from the workshop experience. In
addition to feedback on the academic aspects of their work, students will
have the opportunity to seek advice on various aspects of completing a PhD
and of successfully joining the software engineering research community.
The Symposium has the same scope of technical topics as the main ICSE
conference.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Apply for participation at the symposium by submitting a research proposal
of four pages or fewer in the required ICSE conference format through the
online submission site. In addition to your basic contact information
(including your adviser's name and email) and the title of your research,
successful proposals will generally include a description of the research
problem and its importance in the field, a brief survey of background and
related work, your expected contributions, how you plan to provide
evidence of the value of your contributions, and any results achieved to
date.
Successful proposals will generally include:
- a clear, concise statement of the research question or problem and why
it is important;
- a discussion of why the question/problem is important, what related work
is already published, and how your research will add to that field;
- your expected contributions, and how you plan to provide evidence to
underpin those contributions;
- and any results achieved to date.
Students at different stages in their work may address these issues in
different ways and in different depth.
A letter of support is not required (as it has been in the past); the
committee will communicate with advisers as needed. Student applicants,
however, should -- in a brief email message to the symposium co-chairs
(with subject "ICSE DS application") -- include several sentences on what
they wish to achieve through the Doctoral Symposium.
Proposals can be submitted electronically via CyberChair
(http://cyberchairpro3.borbala.net/icsedocpapers/submit/).
ACCEPTANCE
Submissions will be accepted based on criteria including the quality of
the research proposal, the quality of the presentation, and the
committee's judgment about the potential benefit to the student. In
addition, the committee intends to include students that represent a
diversity of background, topics, research approaches, and stages of
research.
The symposium is a closed forum, open only to the committee and invited
students.

Dear Colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to the following workshop at the
ACIS conference in Christchurch, New Zealand. The tutorial is part of
ACIS on *** Friday, December 5th, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM ***.
This workshop is aimed at anyone who is interested in software development
methodologies, in particular those interested in agile methods. It has a
broad appeal, and has been used both to introduce the agile concepts to
students and to explore these concepts with professional developers.
This workshop addresses issues around how various techniques may be
integrated within an agile methodology, how these techniques interact with
each other, and how certain techniques may be regarded as more or less
critical to the success of an agile software development project. The
workshop is in the spirit of a number of previous approaches to exploring
agile methods by using game-like simulations. These include Process
Miniatures (a method for simulating agile project processes in a short
time scale), the eXtreme Hour, the XP Game and the Planning Game. However
the focus of most of these other efforts has been to concentrate on the
managerial aspects of agile methods. In contrast, the Agile Technique
Hour enables us to explore the technique subset of agile practices,
which focuses not so much on planning and estimating (though this is
necessary too to provide us with a framework for the other activities) but
on how agile techniques are used within an iteration. In the workshop,
participants work in small teams to create a design artefact using various
agile techniques and learn how these techniques can support each other.

Workshop Highlights
* Held in conjunction with TridentCom 2009, April, Washington DC, USA
* Selected outstanding papers in the workshop will be published in a
special issue in International Journal of Sensor Networks!!!
* papers accepted will be included in IEEE Xplore Digital Library and
indexed by EI
Description:
Pervasive Computing (or Ubiquitous Computing) is an information
model that enables data to be accessed and processed anytime and
anywhere. Basically, various practical issues such as physical
limitation and cost-benefit tradeoffs make pervasive computing
model a natural choice for implementation of complicated
applications. These applications usually involve computing
facilities and network devices with dramatically different
processing power, energy constraints, and networking technologies,
thereby demanding seamless integration of various domains in an
efficient manner. A typical example is wireless Internet access
from mobile users. Recent demand for pervasive computing includes
body sensor networks that enable remote health monitoring of
patients.
While many pervasive computing models and protocols have been
proposed to enable the integration of various computing and
networking domains, a much less attention is given on the design
and implementation of such systems and infrastructures in real
applications. Without real implementation, it is difficult to
evaluate the performance of existing models and protocols and
discover further issues for additional improvement.
This workshop features all recent advances in pervasive computing
systems and tools, with an focus on building and performance
evaluation of infrastructures and testbeds. We would like solicit
original papers from both academia and industry on the following
(but not limited to) topics:
* Pervasive Computing Infrastructures and Testbeds
