CALL FOR CHAPTERS
Mobile Commerce: Technology, Theory and Applications
A book edited by Brian E. Mennecke and Troy J. Strader,
Iowa State University
Submission deadline: July 15, 2001
Website: http://www.bus.iastate.edu/mennecke/mcommerce
M-commerce (mobile-commerce) refers to e-commerce activities carried out via
a mobile terminal such as a phone or PDA. M-commerce applications for both
individuals and organizations are expected to grow considerably over the
next few years. Because there are many factors that influence the growth and
use of m-commerce applications in North America, a book addressing issues
pertaining to the development, deployment, and use of these applications
represents an important topic for practitioners, researchers, and educators.
The objective of this book is to provide a single source of up-to-date
information about mobile commerce including the hardware and software
technologies that enable m-commerce, research on the expected impact of this
technology on businesses and consumers, and case studies describing
state-of-the-art m-commerce applications and lessons learned. It is our
hope that this book will be relevant to both a technical and non-technical
audience in industry, academia, and in the consumer space.
Representative topics include but are not limited to the following:
M-Commerce Technology and Infrastructure
* Network Technologies - GSM, 3G, HSCSD
* M-Commerce Terminals & Software Protocols -
Handsets, Operating Systems and Applications, WAP
* M-Commerce Service Providers and Portals
* Location Based Service (LBS) Technologies -
Location Technologies (e.g. GIS and GPS), LBS Applications
* M-Commerce Software Applications for Financial Services,
Supply and Value Chain Management, Consumer Interaction,
Mobile Advertising, Information Services,
Customer Care and Security
M-Commerce Theory and Research
* The Role of Geography and Location in M-Commerce
* User Interface and Design
* Consumer Behavior
* Economic and Business Models of M-Commerce
* Location and Space Models for LBS
* Markets and Users of M-Commerce
* Consumer-Oriented Product Marketing
* Product Branding and Positioning
* Business to Business M-Commerce
* Strategic Applications for M-Commerce
* Security, Legal, and Privacy Issues
M-Commerce Applications and Cases
* Consumer to Business (C2B) - Banking & Financial Services,

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before July 15,
2001, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of the proposed chapter. Submissions should be provided
electronically in MS Word, WordPerfect, or rtf format. Authors of accepted
proposals will be notified by July 31, 2001 about the status of their
proposals and sent chapter organizational guidelines. Full chapters are
expected to be submitted by October 15, 2001. All submitted chapters will be
reviewed on a blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published by

Submission Guidelines
Acceptance of contributions will be determined on the basis of Draft
Final Papers. Each paper must explain clearly
- what problem it is trying to address,
- what has been tried before and why it isn't good enough,
- WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND WHY IT IS BETTER,
- some proof that your method is sound (or reference to it),
- how it will help others/apply to other problems,
- some results/proof it works.
Draft Final Papers must not exceed 10 single-spaced A4 pages (maximum
43 lines, max. line length 160 mm, 12 point), in English. They have to
contain the final text to be submitted, including graphs and pictures.
However, these need not be of reproducible quality.
They must carry the title, author(s) name(s), and affiliation (incl.
e-mail address, if possible) in this order, and must include an
abstract.
Please specify the symposium in which you would like to present your
paper. Each scientist shall submit only one paper. Please send four
hard copies of the Draft Final Paper to the Conference Secretariat (not to
symposia chairpersons!) Electronic or fax submissions cannot be
accepted.
Deadline for submission
October 19, 2001
Submissions received after the deadline cannot be considered.
Notification of Acceptance/Rejection
Authors will be notified about acceptance or rejection no later than
December 7, 2001. Successful authors will be provided by the
conference secretariat at the same time with the instructions for the
preparation of the final paper, which will also be available via ftp and
World-Wide Web.
Final Papers
The final paper will be limited to a maximum of 6 pages (10-point,
double column). Camera-ready copies of the final paper will
be due at the conference secretariat by January 18, 2002. Acceptance
of the final paper will be based on compliance with the reviewers'
comments.
Presentation
It is understood that each accepted paper is presented personally at
the Meeting by one of its authors.

Scope and Topics:
"Business-to-business e-commerce will rise to $6.3 trillion in 2005 from
$336 billion in 2000, reports Jupiter Research." How has
B2B reached this level, and how is it poised to keep on rising? Many
standards efforts over the years have created common infrastructures that
have made B2B succeed: EDI, the Internet, the Web, XML, Database
Standards
and more. On top of this infrastructure Portals, Marketplaces, Exchanges
and Extranets have been setup in Industries in a Global Setting. Success
stories and setbacks have been reported in the development of B2B over
the
past years.
A goal of the special issue is to look at B2B technologies and analyze
how
they meet strategic needs of companies. This includes an analysis of the
Internet as part of the Value Chain of traditional businesses; see where
the Internet can be a technological improvement to different parts of
this
chain. How do the B2B technologies effect cooperation and competition
between companies? What types of old and new services are possible and
their effect. How do they effect product development and differentiation?
What are successful development and implementation strategies?
This special issue of the Electronic Commerce Research Journal is devoted
to the theory and application of B2B technologies. Topics for submission
include but are not limited to:
§ Global Case Studies
§ New Work Force Issues
§ Impact of B2B on economic Development
§ B2B Case Studies
§ Communications Costs and Technology
§ Challenge of Common Standards above the Infrastructure
§ Regulatory issues in B2B
§ Security Aspects of B2B Commerce
§ Legal issues of B2B Commerce
§ Trust Issues between Businesses
§ Payment and settlement issues
§ Dispute resolution in B2B
§ Product description and cataloguing
§ Auctioning methods and price determination
§ Agents in B2B
§ Contract Creation in B2B
§ Ownership and Operation of Market Places
§ Business Models and Modeling
§ Charging Methods for B2B services
§ Cross Border Aspects of B2B

One of the most engaging activities at each Academy of Management Meeting
is the Junior Faculty Consortium co-sponsored by the OCIS and TIM
Divisions, fondly known as "OCIS/TIM Camp." This consortium
consists of an all day Saturday meeting with 4-5 senior faculty, or
"counselors," and 20-25 junior faculty, or "campers."

This year, the theme of the consortium will be: Balance without Burnout:
Dealing with the Competing Demands of Research, Teaching, and Service,
while Having a Life Outside of Work.

The consortium will provide participants with the opportunity for
reflection and renewal, for networking with friends and colleagues, and
for meeting new peers and senior people with shared interests. The
Consortium will run from 8:30 to 5:00 on Saturday, August 4, 2001, at the
Hilton Washington & Towers. If you are a junior faculty member and
