Apologies for Cross-Posting
MUM 2021, the 20th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous
Multimedia
Leuven, Belgium
MUM is an interdisciplinary forum for advances in research of mobile and
ubiquitous multimedia systems, applications, and services. At MUM, academics
and practitioners gather to discuss challenges and achievements from diverse
perspectives, in a single track conference format. This year's conference
aims to continue the tradition of innovation and excellence in research
established by previous MUM conferences.
The MUM poster track provides an opportunity for researchers and
practitioners to show and discuss their recent work on mobile and ubiquitous
multimedia systems, services, interactions and experiences. The submissions
can also be about something that has not been fully designed, implemented or
tested but shows great promise, has a provoking topic or only preliminary
results, or summarizes several small-scale studies. Topics of interest are
the same as mentioned in the CfP for short and full papers. Posters provide
the opportunity for researchers to get feedback on early-stage work, discuss
potential collaborations and burning issues in an informal manner with the
MUM community.
Topics could include, but are not limited to the following:
* Architectures, systems, algorithms and other constructions tackling
relevant technical challenges
* Augmented, mixed, and virtual reality systems and applications
* Case studies, field trials, or user experience evaluations of new
applications and services
* Conceptualizations and theorizations of the field
* Context-aware and location-based mobile and ubiquitous services
* Metrics and measures for evaluating and testing mobile and
ubiquitous systems
* Middleware and distributed computing support for mobile and
ubiquitous multimedia
* Novel applications for mobile and ubiquitous gaming, entertainment,
networking, and advertising
* Privacy and security related issues to multimedia systems
* Social implications of mobile and ubiquitous multimedia systems
* Tools and development environments for building mobile, wearable,
and ubiquitous multimedia systems
* User interfaces, interaction design, and interaction techniques for
mobile and ubiquitous systems
Poster submissions should be maximum 3 pages (excluding references) adopting
the ACM Publication System (TAPS) workflow:
https://www.acm.org/publications/taps/word-template-workflow.
The correct template for submissions is the single-column format in PDF.
Submissions should be prepared using either the single column Word
Submission Template or the single column LaTeX template (using the
"manuscript, review, anonymous" style available in the template). Poster
submissions must contain an abstract with less than 150 words that clearly
states the poster's contribution to the field.
Submissions will undergo a review process managed by the poster chairs. The
authors of the accepted posters will receive instructions about the format
of the poster. Poster must be submitted via EasyChair
<https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mum20210> :
Accepted submissions will be presented as a poster at the conference.
Authors are expected to bring the accepted posters to the conference site
with them and be present throughout the posters and demos session of the
conference.
This year, we have all been confronted with significant changes caused by
the corona virus outbreak. Based on vaccination data coming from Europe, the
USA, and other countries, we are confident that MUM 2021 will be able to be
organized physically. However, we plan for it to be a hybrid in-person event
with support for remote participation for those who might not be able to
travel to Belgium. We are currently considering which solution to use to be
as inclusive as possible to those who will prefer to present and participate
remotely. We will monitor the unfolding of the events in the short term and
update the conference modality accordingly.
Submissions should not have been previously published or be concurrently
under submission elsewhere. Submissions should not be anonymized and will
undergo a single-blind review process. Final camera-ready versions of
accepted submissions must be accompanied by a signed copyright form.
Accepted posters will be included in the conference proceedings published by
ACM Press and included in the ACM Digital Library.

HIGHLIGHTS
=========
- DEADLINE: *** October 1, 2021 ***
- CEUR conference proceedings
=========
ABSTRACT
=========
Nowadays we are witnessing a new summer of Artificial Intelligence,
since the AI-based algorithms are being adopting in a growing number of
contexts and applications domains,
ranging from media and entertainment to medical, finance and legal
decision-making.
While the very first AI systems were easily interpretable, the current
trend showed the rise of opaque methodologies such as those based on
Deep Neural Networks (DNN), whose (very good)
effectiveness is contrasted by the enormous complexity of the models,
which is due to the huge number of layers and parameters that
characterize these models.
As intelligent systems become more and more widely applied (especially
in very ìsensitiveî domain), it is not possible to adopt opaque or
inscrutable black-box models or to ignore
the general rationale that guides the algorithms in the task it carries
on Moreover, the metrics that are usually adopted to evaluate the
ef-fectiveness of the algorithms reward
very opaque methodologies that maximize the accuracy of the model at the
expense of the transparency and explainability.
This issue is even more felt in the light of the recent experiences,
such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and DARPA's
Explainable AI Project, which further emphasized
the need and the right for scrutable and transparent methodologies that
can guide the user in a complete comprehension of the information held
and managed by AI-based systems.
Accordingly, the main motivation of the workshop is simple and
straightforward: how can we deal with such a dichotomy between the need
for effective intelligent systems and the
right to transparency and interpretability?
These questions trigger several lines, that are particularly relevant
for the current research in AI. The workshop tries to address these
research lines and aims to provide a
forum for the Italian community to discuss problems, challenges and
innovative approaches in the area.
======
TOPICS
======
Several research questions are triggered by this workshop:
1. How to design more transparent and more explainable models that
maintain high performance?
2. How to allow humans to understand and trust AI-based systems and methods?
3. How to evaluate the overall transparency and explainability of the models
Topics of interest:
- Explainable Artificial Intelligence
- Interpretable and Transparent Machine Learning Models
- Strategies to Explain Black Box Decision Systems
- Designing new Explanation Styles
- Evaluating Transparency and Interpretability of AI Systems
- Technical Aspects of Algorithms for Explanation
- Theoretical Aspects of Explanation and Interpretability

Subject: [AISWorld] CfP Frontiers Research Topic on *Human Issues in
Recommender Systems*
Date: Mon, 20 Sep 2021 16:01:39 +0000
From: Bauer, C. (Christine) <c.bauer(a)uu.nl>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Please forward to anyone who might be interested*
Apologies for cross-posting.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In collaboration with Frontiers in Big Data’s special section in
Recommender Systems, we are bringing researchers together to contribute
to a Research Topic on:
*Human Issues in Recommender Systems*
Topic Editors:
- Dr. Bruce Ferwerda, Jönköping University, Jönköping, Sweden
- Dr. Christine Bauer, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands
https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/23412/human-issues-in-recommend…
Submissions are ongoing with the final submission deadline for
manuscripts to be considered on 31 January 2022.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommendation systems (or recommender systems) have become a pervasive
ingredient in our everyday lives. Such systems assist people to navigate
immense amounts of content. In doing so, recommenders help people find
and discover various types of content and goods, including movies,
music, books, food, or dating partners. When researching on, developing,
or employing recommender systems, we have a social responsibility to
care about the impact of their technology on individual people (this
includes the roles of users, providers, and other stakeholders) and on
society. This involves building, maintaining, evaluating, and studying
recommender systems that are fair, transparent, and beneficial to society.
It is a combination of many aspects that make a recommender system
successful. In this Research Topic, we zoom in on humans. The goal is to
better understand humans' perceptions, needs, and the impact that
recommender systems may have on humans. For instance, the call for fair
and transparent recommenders is increasingly getting stronger. But what
is fair? What is beneficial for society? And how can we achieve that?
Early research in the field of fair and transparent fair recommender
systems has been inspired by research in the machine learning domain,
where we can observe a particular focus on the algorithmic perspective.
With this Research Topic, we want to show the bigger picture of the
human issues, for instance, concerned with fair and transparent
recommender systems. Recommender systems have an impact on individual
people in the various roles they take (e.g., users, providers, and other
stakeholders) and on society. What is fair and transparent from various
perspectives? How can fairness and transparency be achieved? And how are
the resulting recommendations perceived?
We welcome original research papers addressing human issues in
recommenders, reporting research on theory and/or practice. The type of
research may include but is not limited to, explorative studies,
experiments, or methodological approaches studying human issues.
Topics of interest related to human issues include, but are not limited
to, the following:
- Perception and expectations of stakeholders (e.g., users, providers);
- Human factors (e.g., humans-in-the-loop);
- Humanistic theory (e.g., philosophical, moral, and ethical analysis);
- Real-world cases and applications;
- Algorithmic development, measurement, and evaluation (e.g., bias and
discrimination);
- Data (e.g., bias and discrimination).
For more information about the Research Topic, information on manuscript
preparation, and related matters, please see:
https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/23412/human-issues-in-recommend…
Although the deadline for submission of manuscripts to this Research
Topic is 31 January 2022, papers will be reviewed and published as they
are received. Submitting an abstract before submitting the manuscript is
encouraged but not required.
We are looking forward to your contribution to the Research Topic.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Bruce Ferwerda Dr. Christine Bauer

Subject: [AISWorld] CfP: 11th Enterprise Engineering Working Conference
(online) - (EEWC 2021)
Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2021 16:51:27 +0000
From: EEWC 2021 <programchair(a)ciaonetwork.org>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
**Eleventh Enterprise Engineering Working Conference**
/November 11th - 12th and December 16th - 17th 2021 (online)/
Important new Dates (1st submission window):
October 4th: Abstract submission deadline
October 18th: Submission deadline for initial versions of papers
November 8th: Final versions of papers for presentation
The 2021 Enterprise Engineering Working Conference (EEWC 2021) will be the
11th working conference addressing the field of Enterprise Engineering. It
will be a special conference, as the CIAO! network
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=X3neXoUZomikU9kEn4hnTN/7inlGKu3Iu…>
, the EE-Network.eu
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=eP4idwVl5/2Vl6vNk1uGKN/7inlGKl3Iu…>
, and the EE Institute
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=33kPQESiBmGja1Hxv4Hvnt/7inlGKl3Iu…>
will join forces to become an integrated network, concerned with the
development of theory-based and practice-proven methods, techniques, and
tools for enterprise engineering.
The new network will provide a platform to further strengthen our
activities, such as:
academic events, and the EEWC
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=lq1zgWZXDSaJpw1xE0og9t/7inlGKl3Iu…>
working conference in particular,
the development of an EE body of knowledge,
joint research projects,
outreach events such as EE Insights,
a doctoral consortium and joint PhD training and supervision,
courses and certification for practitioners.
The formal kick-off of the new network will take place during this year's
EEWC.
Due to Covid-19 and related travel restrictions, it has been decided that
EEWC 2021 will take place, as in 2020, in an on-line format.
Nevertheless, the goal remains to gather academics and practitioners in
order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences,
balancing rigour and relevance, as well as to facilitate profound
discussions on the discipline of enterprise engineering
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=vrIRDx9kHEiKoyDLE2cTYN/7inlGKh3Iu…>
. Furthermore, as in earlier years, the proceedings of EEWC 2021 will be
published as post-conference proceedings in Springer's Lecture Notes in
Business Information Processing
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=RnJcWvoPZ72qAFwSj445/N/7inlGKo3Iu…>
(LNBIP). The use of post-conference proceedings enables the authors to
update their submissions based on the feedback from reviewers, as well as
the discussions during the conference, which truly underlines the/ working
conference/ character of EEWC.
In maintaining the online format, we will take this opportunity to keep our
EEWC conference in a community-driven working event.
More specifically, the plan is to have each paper go through the following
process:
Each submitted paper (via EasyChair) will be reviewed by three reviewers.
The reviewers will be asked (1) if the current version of the paper is good
enough to be presented at the discussion sessions.
The discussions on the online platform will happen during the conference
days.
With sufficient time before conference paper presentation/discussion
rounds, PC-chairs will, based on reviews, make a selection of papers that
are to be presented. Some of these papers will already obtain confirmation
of publication in Springer proceedings, some will be conditionally accepted
and, after the conference, might be accepted.
The authors will then have the option to provide an updated version of
their papers to be presented at the online conference. In addition, they
will be requested to provide a 15 minute pre-recorded video with a
presentation as a fallback solution in case the online presentation fails
due to bandwidth problems. These should be provided before the actual
conference presentations will take place, according to the dates below.
Close to the conference days, the community will be able to read the
updated version of the paper watch the pre-recorded video and initiate
discussions on an online forum.
During the actual conference days, video-meetings will be organised in
which the papers (and presentations) will be discussed in more detail.
After the conference, authors are required to submit an updated version of
their paper taking into account the discussions and chairs' feedback. The
latter will be re-assessed by the reviewers. Based on this, the final
selection of papers to be included in the post-proceedings will be made.
The above structure also allows us to be rather flexible in terms of
submission deadlines as per the dates specified below.
**Proceedings**
The proceedings of the working conference will, as always, be published in
Springer's Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?tid=RnJcWvoPZ72qAFwSj445/N/7inlGKo3Iu…>
(LNBIP).
As in the previous years, the EEWC working conference will use
post-conference proceedings. This enables the authors to update their
submissions based on the feedback from reviewers, as well as the
discussions during the working conference. Additionally, it provides us
with more flexibility regarding the submission and reviewing process.
**Relevant Topics**
Topics of interest to for the EEWC include, but are not limited to:
Specific aspects of enterprises:
Business processes
Business rules
Information systems
Software architectures
Cross cutting concerns for enterprises:

*Call for Papers: “Financial technology (fintech): The continuing
revolution in financial services”*
Submission deadline: March 31, 2022
*Guest Editors*
Christopher P. Holland, Loughborough University, UK
c.p.holland(a)lboro.ac.uk <mailto:c.p.holland@lboro.ac.uk>__
Rainer Alt, Leipzig University, Germany, rainer.alt(a)uni-leipzig.de

Younghoon Chang, Beijing Institute of Technology, China,
younghoonchang(a)bit.edu.cn <mailto:younghoonchang@bit.edu.cn>
*Theme*
This call for papers focuses on financial technology (fintech) and its
role in the continuing revolution in financial services. Fintech
comprises the transformation of business processes, strategies and
business models in the financial sector with digital technologies.
Numerous start-up companies have launched novel services that are
unrestrained by legacy systems and old business models, and have already
disrupted financial markets (Goldstein, Jiang and Karolyi, 2019).
Managerial roles and structures are being redefined and modified to
exploit combined human and machine intelligence. New business models are
emerging that could replace those of incumbents (i.e. banks, insurance
companies, brokers) and today’s market leaders. These innovations are
part of the broader phenomena of digital transformation and business
innovation (Brynjolfsson & Mcafee, 2016). There is worldwide adoption of
fintech though there are large regional variances in terms of the scale
of adoption (Frost, 2020).
Digital technologies such as cloud-based computing, ubiquitous mobile,
tracking and sensor devices, novel algorithms (Christian & Griffiths
2017), blockchain technology (Ali /et al./, 2020; Chang /et al./, 2020),
an abundance of big data and the potential of smart AI or even
super-intelligent machines (Bostrom, 2017; Tegmark, 2017) continue to
create new possibilities and options for the design of financial
services, which are in the early stages of a radical shift in the way
that they function and operate. Among the examples that point towards
more automation are cryptocurrencies with smart contracts for payments
and trading or AI systems with adaptive algorithms that allow image and
speech recognition, expert judgement, categorization of groups and
forecasting in many areas (Fry, 2018). At the same time, the potentials
create risks and raise regulatory issues. The special issue encourage
theoretical and empirical research on how fintech is transforming and
shaping financial services. All forms of empirical research are welcome,
including case study research, surveys and technical models. Distinctive
and novel theoretical approaches are also encouraged.
*Central issues and topics*
Possible topics of submissions include, but are not limited to:
1. Electronic markets and business models
* New, emergent digital platforms that shape market exchanges and
coordination
* New business models in financial services that are disrupting the market
* Design and implementation of data-driven and algorithmic digital
platforms
* Collaboration between fintech and established financial services
companies
* Customer experience in fintech apps and new types of customer behavior
2. Financial technology (fintech) and implementation
* Barriers and enablers of fintech implementations
* Distributed ledger applications and decentralized finance (Defi)
* Novel applications of AI, e.g. chatbots in online customer search
and robot-advisory
* Data sharing in financial service value chains
* The dark sides of fintech, e.g., privacy, security, technology
dependency
3. Related topics
* Algorithmic bias in the design of automated decision-making systems
* Strategies to tackle the ethical issues of transparent and
explainable AI in fintech systems
* Actions of regulators to monitor and advise on the ethical use of
fintech
* Analysis of economic activity related to cryptocurrency payments and
markets
* Novel use of fintech to support and facilitate new regulatory
systems and techniques
*Keywords*
Financial technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning,
big data and digital platforms, business models, analytics, blockchain
technology, privacy and ethics of AI.**

*BWL.Weiter.Denken. Aus der Wissenschaft – für Unternehmen – in die
Gesellschaft *
*Website: *https://www.bwl2022.org
anspricht. Nähere Informationen dazu finden Sie in einem Call for Papers
ab Herbst 2021. Bei Interesse sind Sie herzlich eingeladen, Ihre Papiere
dort einzureichen.
*Konferenzpreise*
*Termine und Fristen aktuell*
* Einreichungsschluss ist der 30. September 2021
* Die Benachrichtigung über Annahme bzw. Ablehnung erfolgt ab dem 12.
Dezember 2021
* Die Tagung findet vom 08.-11. März 2022 statt.
