Introduction
With the ever-increasing popularity of service computing technology, a
wide range of computational resources or services (e.g., news, food and
commodities) are emerging rapidly on the Web (Dastjerdi et al., 2016;
Tao et al., 2014), which benefit the development, deployment and
maintenance of lightweight service-oriented business systems
significantly (Jula et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2016).
Through selecting or composing appropriate web services, an enterprise
or organization can accelerate its system development, optimize system
performances and gain more profits (Liu et al., 2017; Shih et al., 2019;
Zhang et al., 2016).
The recently emerged new computing paradigms (e.g., cloud, edge and
fog), on one hand, widen the scope of applications of services computing
technology (Deng et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2017; Mahmud et al., 2018),
on the other hand bring additional difficulties and challenges in terms
of resource load (Vaquero et al., 2014; Shi et al., 2016), energy cost
(Roman et al., 2018), link switch (Zhang et al., 2018), quality
optimization (Guan et al., 2018; Gong et al., 2018), and so on.
Therefore, it becomes a necessity to combine the advantages of both the
services computing technology and the cloud/edge/fog computing
paradigms. This special session aims to highlight the cutting-edge
research and applications related to the “Service Computing Innovations
in the Cloud, Edge and Fog Environment”.

Submission Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2020, 5:00 pm MST (7:00 pm EST)
SIGDSA Minitrack 7: Social Media and Network Analytics
Online social networks (OSN) differ from traditional offline social
networks in content and structure. OSN content (e.g., online reviews, eWOM
via tweets, likes, claps) differs in nature and frequency, and OSN
structure increases the content’s reach and propagation speed by orders of
magnitude. Further, the content can be continuously captured at the finest
level of granularity. Unstructured data in this form that is disseminated
over OSN provides a lean yet in many ways unique and rich means of
communication that has the potential to not only influence receivers
(consumers, colleagues, stakeholders, etc.), but also to provide a window
into the participants’ information needs, responses to incentive
structures, and the collective sentiments of social groups (consumers,
employees, voters, etc.).
This mini-track invites original research on the use of analytical
techniques to advance the theories of social networks to further understand
social influence, human behavior and decision-making, network structures,
and information diffusion.
Topics may include the following:
• Emerging architecture for scalable social media analytics
• Social network and Geospatial analytics,
• Visual social network analytics
• Privacy and security in social networks
• Communities structure discoveries such as profiling participants, and
subgroups
• User sentiment analysis, opinion mining, and recommendation analysis
• User empowerment and social movements with OSN
• Impact of OSN on brand communication, advertising, and e-commerce
• Use of theories to understand user communication patterns and behavior in
social media
• Impact of OSN on decision-making at the individual and organizational
level
• Integration of OSN in enterprise processes and systems
• Ethical concerns about the nature of OSN content and spread of
misinformation
Selected papers from the mini-track will be eligible for a fast-track
review for publication consideration in the e-Service Journal (
https://www.jstor.org/journal/eservicej).

Call for Papers
Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS'20)
August 12-16, 2020
Salt Lake City, Utah
Track: Virtual Communities and Collaboration
Minitrack: Fake News, Rumors, and Other Unintended Consequences of
Engagement in Virtual Communities
Description:
Virtual communities enabled by social media are providing new
opportunities for people to engage with each other. Such engagements
span across personal, political, social, or economic spheres. Recently,
such engagements have been exploited to spread fake news, rumors, biased
reporting, or for promoting unsupported viewpoints. Some other
unintended effects include cyberbullying, suppression of alternate
viewpoints, or promotion of narratives disconnected from facts. These
reflect unintended consequences of engagement in virtual communities
that have the potential to significantly influence the discourse of
social, political, moral, or economic debate. It cannot be denied that
virtual communities hold a lot of potential for beneficial and positive
engagement among the community members but there is a need to examine
some of these unintended consequences prevalent in virtual communities.
The objective of this mini-track is to provide a forum for discussion
and presentation of original r
esearch highlighting some of these unintended consequences and
subsequent challenges/or solutions to deal with them. We seek papers
that address nature of unintended consequence of engagements in virtual
communities from a theoretical, conceptual, or empirical perspective.
Both quantitative and qualitative studies are welcome.
In alignment with theme of AMCIS 2020, we are pleased to invite
submission of completed research papers and research-in-progress papers
for the mini-track: Fake News, Rumors, and Other Unintended Consequences
of Engagement in Virtual Communities. This mini-track aims to increase
our understanding and awareness of the unintended consequences of
people's engagement to virtual communities as facilitated through social
media. While virtual communities are primarily purposed to foster
collaboration among individuals with shared purpose, interest and goals,
recent engagements in these communities have been exploited to
facilitate behaviors that potentially bring about disruptive social,
political, moral and even economic unintended outcomes. Spreading of
fake news and rumors, and promotion of groundless opinions to gain some
political advantage are examples of such unintended consequential
behaviors. We welcome both quantitative and qualitative studies that
explicate the theoretical, conce
ptual and empirical nature of similar unintended consequences of virtual
communities. In addition, papers that model and analyze impacts, spread
and drivers of factors across similar topic areas are welcome.
Potential topics may include (but are not limited to):
* Cyberbullying, cyber-aggression, and unwanted contact
* Harassment, intimidation and stalking * Damaged reputation due to
rumors or gossips
* Online deception
* Sex and violence
* Inadvertent disclosure of private information
* Changes to relationships between public and private sphere
* Suppression of alternate viewpoints
* Promotion of narratives disconnected from facts
* Data mining in virtual communities for malicious intent
* Use of personal data by third-parties, hacking and identify theft
Submission Process:
Paper submissions must be made electronically through AMCIS 2020

democratic processes. With the potential to influence millions of people
across the world, such new technologies have not only enabled new ways
to engage people in civic processes but have also posed challenges to
governments across the world in ensuring that citizens are appropriately
informed. It is an opportune time to engage in a research discussion on
how to leverage newer technologies to strengthen existing civic and
democratic processes and minimize some of the unintended consequences.
The objective of this mini-track is to provide a forum for discussion
and presentation of original research highlighting role of newer
technologies like smart devices, social media, or Internet of Things
(IoT), in shaping the technical, organizational, managerial and
socio-economic aspects of civic and democratic processes. We seek to
invite papers that identify emerging frameworks of democratic engagement
enabled by these newer technologies and highlight the
opportunities/challenges posed to governments across the world. We seek
papers from a theoretical, conceptual, or empirical perspective to set
the stage for future research direction for reshaping civic engagement
using newer technologies across countries. Both quantitative as well as
qualitative studies from developed and developing countries perspectives
are encouraged.
Potential topics may include (but are not limited to):
* Impact of social media on civic and democratic processes

Subject: [AISWorld] EJIS Special Issue on The Dark Side of Analytics
and Artificial Intelligence. Deadline March 31st
Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2020 10:47:58 +0000
From: Conboy, Kieran <kieran.conboy(a)nuigalway.ie>

The European Journal of Information Systems special issue on “The Dark
Side of Analytics and Artificial Intelligence". Deadline March 31st.
Guest editors: Patrick Mikalef, Ales Popovic, Jenny Eriksson Lundström
and Kieran Conboy
Please note the upcoming deadline for this special issue. This special
issue will extend the critical reflection on the impact and unintended
consequences of big data analytics and AI. Specifically, we aim to
attract submissions that delve into the many misplaced assumptions and
potential dangers that AI might introduce in the organizational setting.
Such negative implications tend to be often overlooked by empirical
research studies and their consequence seldom discussed. We invite the
submission of original manuscripts that advance empirical, theoretical,
and conceptual understanding of the consequences and effects of how big
data analytics and AI drive digital business strategy. Manuscripts must
have substantial implications for theory and practice, and we welcome
both empirical papers and conceptual theory development papers, as well
as other genres. We are particularly interested in
manuscripts that address the challenges and changes that these
technological innovations bring to strategic management
theories, and how such technologies may change the way we think about
how organisations operate and compete. The
special issue is designed to embrace a variety of perspectives on
emerging technological innovations, information systems,
and digital business strategy research. Purely computer science papers
are not within the scope of this special issue.
