CALL FOR Papers
EXplainable AI in Law (XAILA) 2019

Workshop co-located with Jurix 2019
(Legal Knowledge and Information Systems)

Abstract:
=========
Humanized AI emphasizes transparency and explainability in AI systems.
These perspectives have an important ethical dimension, that is most
often analyzed by philosophers. However, in order for it to be fruitful
for AI engineers, it has to be properly focused. The intersection of Law
and AI that makes it possible, as it provides a conceptual framework for
ethical concepts and values in AI systems. A significant part of AI and
Law research during the last two decades was devoted to
operationalization of legal thinking with values. These results may now
be reconsidered in a broader context, concerning the development of HAI
systems and their social impact. It is a timely issue for the AI and Law
community.
Motivation for the workshop and description
===========================================
Humanized AI (HAI) includes important perspectives in AI systems,
including transparency and explainability (XAI). Another one is the
affective computing paradigm. These perspectives have an important
ethical dimension. While ethical discussion is conducted by many
philosophers, in order for it to be fruitful for engineers in AI, it has
to be properly focused with specific concepts and operationalized.
We believe, that it is the intersection of Law and AI that makes such an
endeavor possible. Together, this lays foundations and provides a
conceptual framework for ethical concepts and values in AI systems.
Therefore, when discussing ethical consequences and considerations of
transparent and explainable AI systems, including affective systems, we
should focus on the legal conceptual framework. A significant part of AI
and Law research during the last two decades was devoted to
operationalization of legal thinking with values. These results may now
be reconsidered in a broader context, concerning the development of XAI
systems and their social impact. As such it is a very timely issue for
the AI and Law community.
Our objective is to bring people from AI interested in XAI/HAI topics
(possibly with broader background than just engineering) and create an
ample space for discussion with people from the field of legal
scholarship and/or legal practice. As many members of the AI and Law
community join both perspectives, the JURIX conference should be
assessed as perfect venue for the workshop.
Together we would like to address some questions like:
* the notions of transparency, interpretability and explainability in XAI
* non-functional design choices for explainable and transparent AI systems
* legal consequences of black-box AI systems
* legal criteria and requirements for explainable and transparent AI systems
* possible applications of XAI systems in the area of legal policy
deliberation, legal practice, teaching and research
* ethical and legal implications of the use of AI systems in different
spheres of societal life
* the notion of right to explanation relation of XAI and argumentation
technologies
* XAI models, approaches and architectures
* XAI and declarative domain knowledge
* risk-based approach to analysis of AI systems and the influence of XAI
on risk assessment
* incorporation of ethical values into AI systems & its legal
interpretation and consequences
* XAI, privacy and data protection
* possible legal aspects and consequences of affective systems
* XAI, certification and compliance

**************************************************************************************
Anwendung theoretischer Inhalte vorsieht.
lernzielgerichtete Überprüfung studentischer Leistungen zunehmend an
Bedeutung.
folgenden Aspekten gesucht:
*Unterrichten der Modellierung*
**
* Lerninhalte, Lernziele
* Kompetenzorientierung
* Lernkonzepte
* Innovative Unterrichtsmethoden
* Fallbeispiele, Teaching Cases
* Lessons Learned, Best Practices
*Prüfungen zur Modellierung und Bewerten von Modellierungsaufgaben*
**
* Prüfungsaufgaben, Leistungskontrolle
* Bewertungsschemata für studentische Modelle
* eAssessments (formativ oder summativ)
* Werkzeuge mit Modellierungsunterstützung (Feedback-Kopplung)
anderer Stelle veröffentlicht worden sind (submission of resubmissions),
gerne gesehen.
<http://butler.aifb.kit.edu/web/mohol2020/initiative/>statt.
*Wichtige Fristen*
* 08. Dezember 2019: Frist zur Einreichung von Beiträgen
* 12. Januar 2020: Mitteilung über die Annahmeentscheidung
* 31. Januar 2020: Einreichung der druckfertigen Beiträge

*****CALL FOR PAPERS*****
ISAIS 2020
Marrakesh, Morocco
June 12-13, 2020
(preceding ECIS)
FOR FULL CFP, PLEASE VISIT http://www.aisconference.org/
The objective of ISAIS is to bring together researchers from all
disciplines related to Accounting Information Systems (AIS). Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to topics on the intersection of
accounting and: AIS development, internal control developments, strategic
information systems, cultural influences on AIS, business intelligence,
decision aids, business process management, audit and assurance regarding
AIS, continuous auditing and reporting, enterprise resource planning,
knowledge management, XBRL, process mining, data-analytics, distributed
ledgers, RPA…
Various recent technologies such as process mining, blockchain and other
distributed ledgers, machine learning, and robotic process automation, to
name but a few, pose challenges and represent opportunities that have the
potential to completely disrupt the whole spectrum of phenomena that AIS is
interested in. While the AIS research field is identified by its
cross-discipline character, we specifically (re-)articulate the ambition of
reaching out to neighboring communities including information systems
research, business process management and systems engineering. The
co-location with ECIS is a clear signal towards this ambition. In this way,
we aim to further broaden the expertise and scope of discussions beyond the
circle of accounting (information systems) researchers who are
traditionally strongest represented at ISAIS.
***program***
The 2020 ISAIS program will tentatively include an overview of AIS research
– what have been the topics of interest since 2000? – followed by a panel
discussion. Further, the program will consist of journal quality paper
presentations and a tutorial. The tutorial will be on Process Mining, an
example topic of interest for researchers from different fields who can
find a common interest in the AIS community. The tutorial will be given by
Prof. Jan Mendling of WU Vienna.

Theme: Designing for Digital Transformation – Co-Creating Services with
Citizens and Industry
There has been a surge of interest in design science research (DSR) in
Information Systems in the last few years and we can say that this is
now a mature field. The goal of the design science research paradigm is
to extend the boundaries of human and organizational capabilities by
designing new and innovative constructs, models, methods, processes, and
systems. Scholars from different backgrounds – such as information
systems, computer science, data science, software engineering, energy
informatics, medical informatics, and operations research – are actively
engaged in generating novel solutions to interesting design problems.
The theme of DESRIST 2020 is designing for digital transformation and
our goal is to bring not only researchers but also practitioners from
the private and public sector to the conference to discuss and debate
how to co-create services for citizens and industries.
Call for Contributions
-------------------------------------
The 15th DESRIST conference will bring together researchers and
practitioners engaged in all aspects of design science research, with a
special emphasis on the design of services for digital transformation.
Apart from theoretical contributions we are encouraging submissions on
specific solutions, such as products and prototypes. We invite
contributions (research papers, demos, and panel/debate proposals) that
describe work in different areas of design science research, including,
but not limited to, the following:
* Conference Theme
* Designing for Digital Transformation
* Service Design and Design of Service Systems
* Co-Designing Public Services and Governments
* Theoretical and Methodological Contributions to Design Science Research
* Science of Design and Design Theory
* Design Processes and Principles of Design
* Modularity and Rules in Design
* Representations and Architectures for Design
* Evaluation of Design Science Research
* Emerging Methods and Tools in Design Science Research
* Design Economics
* Domain-specific Applications of Design Science Research
We invite full papers, research-in-progress papers and panels as well as
product and prototype presentations. See the submission page for
details: https://desrist2020.org/submissions/
Publications
-------------------------------------
The DESRIST Proceedings with the full research papers,
research-in-progress papers, and prototypes papers accepted to the
conference will be published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS). Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit revised and
extended versions of their work for fast-tracked submissions in journals
of our discipline.
