CALL FOR PAPERS
***************************************************************
***************************************************************
in conjunction with The Web Conference
***************************************************************
10th Temporal Web Analytics Workshop (TempWeb 2020)
in conjunction with The Web Conference 2020
April 20/21, Taipei, Taiwan
http://www.temporalweb.net/
As in previous years, the objective of this workshop is to provide a
venue for researchers of all domains (IE/IR, Web mining, etc.) where the
temporal dimension opens an entirely new range of challenges and
possibilities. The workshop’s ambition is to keep shaping a community of
interest on the research challenges and possibilities resulting from the
introduction of the time dimension in web analysis. The maturity of the
Web, the emergence of large-scale repositories of web material, makes
this very timely and a growing number of research projects and services
are emerging that have this focus in common. Having a dedicated workshop
will help, we believe, to take a rich and cross-domain approach to this
continuous research challenge with a strong focus on the temporal dimension.
TempWeb focuses on investigating infrastructures, scalable methods, and
innovative software for aggregating, querying, and analyzing
heterogeneous data at Internet scale. Emphasis will be given to temporal
data analysis along the time dimension for web data that has been
collected over extended time periods. A major challenge in this regard
is the sheer size of the data it exposes and the ability to make sense
of it in a useful and meaningful manner for its users. It is worth
noting that this trend of using big data to make inferences is not
specific to web content analytics. A now-common strategy in post-genomic
biology is to measure, quantitatively, the action of all (or as many as
possible) of the genes at the level of the transcriptome, proteome,
metabolome and phenotype, and to use computerised methods to infer gene
function via various kinds of pattern recognition techniques. On the
Web, to a large extent, we have also reached this point. Web scale data
analytics therefore needs to develop infrastructures and extended
analytical tools to make sense of these. Workshop topics of TempWeb
therefore include, but are not limited to following:
• Web scale data analytics
• Temporal Web analytics
• Distributed data analytics
• Web science
• Web dynamics
• Data quality metrics
• Web spam evolution
• Content evolution on the Web
• Systematic exploitation of Web archives
• Large scale data storage
• Large scale data processing
• Time aware Web archiving
• Data aggregation
• Web trends
• Topic mining
• Terminology evolution
• Community detection and evolution

==================================================================
MOTIVATION
===========
The workshop follows the previous SPeL 2008, SPeL 2009, SPeL 2010, SPeL
2011, DULP & SPeL 2012, SPeL 2013, SPeL 2014, SPeL 2015, SPeL 2016, SPeL
2017, SPeL 2018 and SPeL 2019 workshops, held in conjunction with the
SAINT 2008 conference, WI/IAT 2009 conference, DEXA 2010 conference, ICWL
2011 conference, ICALT 2012 conference, ICSTCC 2013 conference, ICWL 2014
conference, ICSLE 2015 conference, ICWL & SETE 2016 conferences, ICWL &
SETE 2017 conferences, MIS4TEL 2018 conference and ICWL & SETE 2019
conferences respectively. The general topic of the workshop is the social
and personal computing for web-supported learning communities.
Web-based learning is moving from centralized, institution-based systems
to a decentralized and informal creation and sharing of knowledge. Social
software (e.g., blogs, wikis, social bookmarking systems, media sharing
services) is increasingly being used for e-learning purposes, helping to
create novel learning experiences and knowledge. In the world of pervasive
Internet, learners are also evolving: the so-called "digital natives" want
to be in constant communication with their peers, they expect an
individualized instruction and a personalized learning environment, which
automatically adapt to their individual needs. The challenge in this
context is to provide intelligent and adaptive support for collaborative
learning, taking into consideration the individual differences between
learners.
This workshop deals with current research on the interplay between
collaboration and personalization issues for supporting intelligent
learning environments. Its aim is to provide a forum for discussing new
trends and initiatives in this area, including research about the
planning, development, application, and evaluation of intelligent learning
environments, where people can learn together in a personalized way
through social interaction with other learners.
The workshop is targeted at academic researchers, developers,
educationists and practitioners interested in innovative uses of social
media and adaptation techniques for the advancement of intelligent
learning environments. The proposed field is interdisciplinary and very
dynamic, taking into account the recent advent of Web 2.0 and ubiquitous
personalization, and it is hoped to attract a large audience.

> Smart systems are a fairly recent phenomenon that is becoming
> increasingly popular, not just as a research topic but also in real
> life. Prominent examples include the Smart Grid, Smart Manufacturing,
> Intelligent Transport Systems and Smart Cities. The 'smartness' of these
> systems is the result of the integration of ICT into 'traditional'
> technologies, thus providing them with advanced control and
> communication functions previously available only in the virtual world.
>
> With smart systems, billions of sensors (the 'Internet of Things', IoT)
> will collect data and transmit it for analysis. This process may lead to
> conclusions, recommendations and, eventually, action, possibly without
> any human intervention. In any case, the outcomes will have major
> socio-economic, ecological and potentially ethical ramifications and
> will directly impact citizens, businesses and society as a whole. They
> may also have considerable legal ramifications.
>
> This session solicits contributions that may help explain and explore
> the role of standards and standardisation for the ongoing digitisation
> of society and how STS could help improve standards setting and to make
> standards more beneficial for society.
>
> Topics include (but are not limited to):
>
> * The role of standards for the digital society.
> * Responsible standardisation.
> * The role and representation of societal stakeholders in smart systems
> standardisation.
> * Legitimacy and influence of different players in standards development.
> * Potential ethical issues in smart systems standardisation
> * Possible contributions of society to standards development.
> * Social norms and their impact on standardisation.

> OVERVIEW
>
> The term Fog Computing has been introduced to identify a paradigm for
> designing applications able to exploit both the (virtually) infinite
> resources on the cloud and the limited edge computation power by operating
> also on the devices living in between these two sides. More specifically,
> the aim is to exploit a heterogeneous and distributed computational and
> storage environment to optimize the execution of modern applications
> requiring high computational resources while reducing the delay and
> defining constraints on where and how data can be moved and stored. In
> fact, big volumes of data are produced every day at the edge of the network
> and their analysis requires to either move the computation to the data or
> to move the data to the computation. For this reason, a co-design between
> data and computation management is required. An example could be to define
> the amount of data to be moved with respect to the complexity of required
> data analysis. In some cases, this data movement is not possible or limited
> due to privacy restrictions, which do not allow data collected at the edge
> to be stored on cloud facilities maintained by third-party actors. In other
> cases, the volume of data moved through the network introduces severe
> delays in the processing and techniques to reduce the volume by
> pre-processing and filtering them directly where the data are generated
> should be enacted to reduce this delay. At the same time, any
> transformation of the data might affect their utility for the final
> customer, thus, also the quality of the data should be taken into account.
> Moreover, the data collected by IoT and sensors at the edge is often
> subject to quality issues that might be detected and solved before using
> them for analytics and decision making.
>
> TOPICS
> This special issue aims to gather recent work on the topic of data and
> computation management in fog computing. Topics of particular interest
> include, but are not limited to:

> - Data-driven offloading computation
> - Security and privacy issues in data and computation management in Fog
> Computing
> - Data movement, data duplication, and data distribution
> - Energy efficiency in Fog Computing through data and computation movement
> - Data quality assessment and improvement in Fog Computing
> - Data processing in heterogeneous and/or distributed environments
> - Internet of Things and Fog Computing
> - Smart monitoring and anomaly detection for Fog resources and applications
> - Simulation tools for Fog Computing

> There is considerable interest in developing cities that provide not only
> an
> intelligent and green living environment but also providing human-centered
> public services at a lower cost. Artificial intelligence (AI) will be the
> cornerstone technology enabling smart cities to evolve into an organic
> ecosystem. Particularly, developments in Internet of Things (IoT), AI,
> intelligent IoT devices, smart sensing boosted by AI, and IoT big data
> mining with AI are driving this transformation. This book aims to present
> the latest research in the design and development of smart cities and
> services. Specifically, this book discusses the concept, framework, and
> supporting systems for smart city construction. It incorporates a large
> number of the current theoretical concepts to analyze smart city evaluation
> index, comparison and ranking, combining with a large number of practical
> cases to introduce the development and application of artificial
> intelligence in the construction, management and service of smart city. The
> role and mechanism of smart city in urban governance, planning and policy
> is
> also discussed.
>
>
>
> Objective
>
>
>
> The bright future of smart city has motivated many scientific and
> engineering challenges for both academia and industry, in order to fully
> exploit the capabilities and benefits brought by IoT and AI. Some important
> areas are smart city IT infrastructure planning; framework, protocol,
> algorithm for smart sensing and data mining; novel intelligent hardware
> platform or software framework; smart city modeling; security and energy
> efficiency. The objective of this book is to provide a platform for
> researchers to present their recent work on how IoT and AI can work
> together
> to enable a real smart city. Thus, this book targets recent research
> findings in AI applications for Smart City. It discusses state of the art
> techniques in urban infrastructure design, construction, operation,
> maintenance, and management.
>
>
>
> Target Audience
>
>
>
> This book will be a tremendous resource for both academia and industry. In
> academia, the book can be used as a reference book in the graduate and
> undergraduate courses that cover urban planning and smart city development.
> Since the book will also have sufficient coverage of different technologies
> such as IoT, AI, Blockchain, and Information Technology, it can also be
> used
> as a reference book in the management information systems courses. The book
> will also be useful for practitioners who are engaged in designing and
> developing smart cities. Particularly, for people who are developing AI
> based services and systems in support of Smart Cities, this book will
> provide valuable information and case studies that can be used as
> exemplars.
> It will also be suitable for various IT system integration companies,

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: ICALT 2020 - Track 2: APTeL (Adaptive and
Personalised Technology-Enhanced Learning)
Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2019 15:08:41 +0200 (EET)
From: Elvira Popescu <popescu_elvira(a)software.ucv.ro>

CALL FOR PAPERS
The 20th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies –
ICALT 2020
Tartu, Estonia, July 6-9, 2020
https://icalt2020.ut.ee
* Submission Deadline: January 12, 2020
Track 2: Adaptive and Personalised Technology-Enhanced Learning
(APTeL@ICALT2020)
Track Description and Topics of Interest
Advanced learning technologies keep transforming what people learn, how
they learn it and the ways they access learning opportunities in formal
and informal contexts. As the educational landscape evolves, learning gets
more structured around flexible curricula that have to accommodate the
needs of diverse student audiences, and educational organizations which
offer services for accessing educational content and resources through a
variety of platforms, devices, and learning contexts. In this framework,
adapting the educational experience to learners' preferences, needs and
background becomes critical. The challenge concerns providing an
alternative to the "one-size-fits-all" approach in designing learning
technologies, taking into consideration individual differences among
learners and the various contexts within which learning will take place.
The aim is to maximize learner satisfaction, learning retention and
efficiency of the learning process. Adaptation can take place both at
individual and group/community levels, whereby intelligent and adaptive
technologies are integrated to empower socially-grounded learning
experiences.
APTeL@ICALT2020 explores different dimensions of adaptation and
personalization, including learner modeling and adaptation mechanisms, as
well as techniques, designs, implementation approaches, and experimental
validations. A main issue that is expected to be addressed in this forum
is the impact of adaptive and personalised learning environments in real
educational (formal or informal) contexts, focusing on how these
environments can be integrated in the educational process in order to
enhance and promote efficient personalised learning cycles. "What can we
adapt to?", "What can be adapted?", "How can we collect and process
relevant data?", "What is the impact of adaptation?", "How
technology-enhanced adaptive environments may promote personalized
learning in real contexts?", "How are learners profiled and how do they
perceive personalization?", "How can we support educators develop
personalized content and resources?", "How can interaction data
collection, analysis and/or visualization be adapted to identify learner
needs or enhance personalized learning experiences?", "How can learner
communities benefit from personalisation?" are some important questions
that need to be addressed.
Topics of interest cover various adaptivity and personalization issues in
technology enhanced learning, in particular:
* Personal learning environments (PLE)
* Intelligent learner and group modeling
* Adaptive learning methods and techniques
* Adaptive collaborative learning
* Personalized mobile learning applications
* Adaptive educational games
* Adaptivity and personalization in MOOCs
* Cognitive, motivational and affective aspects for personalization
* Measurement and evaluation in adaptive learning environments
* Practice and experience sharing
* Learning and teaching with adaptive and personalised learning environments
* Personalized learning design
* Personalized learning/teaching analytics
* Personalized support for communities of learners
* Context-aware models for personalized learning
* Adaptive learning in pervasive computing environments
