Subject: [AISWorld] 2nd CFP: HICSS52 Managing Platforms and Ecosystems
Minitrack
Date: Mon, 21 May 2018 18:01:39 +0000

********** SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS **********
Minitrack ‘Managing platforms and ecosystems’
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-52)
Conference Date: January 8-11, 2019, Grand Wailea, Maui
Track: Organizational Systems and Technology
http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-52/organizational-systems-and-technology/
********** SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JUNE 15, 2018 **********
We are very happy to invite papers and participation to our HICSS-52
minitrack of ‘Managing platforms and ecosystems’. The minitrack follows
our previous exploration on this topic at HICSS-49, HICSS-50, and HICSS-51.
The minitrack seeks contributions that draw from diverse theoretical
backgrounds such as engineering, computer science, decision science,
system science, organizational design, and behavioral economics to
continue the scholarly exploration of concepts, theories, models, and
tools for managing platforms and ecosystems. We are open to a wide set
of methodological approaches including empirical research, case-based
research, field studies, and behavioral decision making experiments. We
encourage collaboration between academia and industry and welcome
diverse submissions by both industry and geography.
‘You cannot do it alone’ and ‘you do not have to do it alone’ describe
realities of the global interconnected economy. Contemporary
organizations are struggling with managing the associated complexities.
To support understanding and acting in these interconnected, even
hyper-connected economies, the following views are increasingly used:
Ecosystems are complex socio, economic, and technical systems that
generate productive output on a sustainable basis. Entities in
ecosystems (e.g., firms, people, technological artifacts, etc.) form
diverse, multiplex, and symbiotic relationships to create and deliver value.
Platforms, conceptual or technological constructs to structure the
relationships, provide a context for connections and value creation in
an ecosystem. In practice, digital platforms amplify the volume of
opportunity in scaling toward success, allowing for emergence of
multisided markets.
Conceptually, the mindsets, organizational constructs, and the
technological systems of multi-sided markets, platforms, and ecosystems
require a reframed perspective on strategic management that goes beyond
extant literature on strategic and industrial innovation. While
principles and tactics for managing platforms and ecosystems are
emerging, more cross-disciplinary research, thought leadership and
experience sharing are needed.
For the minitrack call, we encourage topics of interest to include, but
not be limited to:
* Theories, models, and empirical studies of platforms and ecosystems
* Genesis, dynamics, and evolution of platforms and ecosystems,
including the role of boundary resources
* Platforms and ecosystems for firm innovation
* Platform and ecosystem business models
* Technological and competitive disruption in ecosystems
* Analytics, visualization, and decision support for platform and ecosystems
* Best practices in platform and ecosystem management
* Orchestration strategies for platforms and ecosystem
* Case studies of successes, failures, and unintended consequences of
platforms and ecosystems
Selected high-quality HICSS-52 papers from this minitrack will be
provided with fast track opportunities at Journal of Enterprise
Transformation.

Digital Government Theory: Development, Integration, and Application
(Minitrack)
In fields of study that intersect with Digital Government, such as
Administrative Sciences and Management Information Systems, the role of
theory has been discussed for at least a couple of decades if not
longer. While some have asserted that "Theory is King" (Straub, 2009)
others call this the "theory fetish" (Avison & Malaurent, 2014), or even
hold that the ‘blanket insistence on theory, or the requirement of an
articulation of theory in everything we write, actually retards our
ability to achieve our end: understanding.’ (Hambrick, 2007, p. 1346).
We intend to further this discussion and extend it into, or rather
reanimate it, in the domain of Digital Government.
Digital Government, formerly also referred to as electronic government,
has evolved tremendously over the last few decades. The Digital
Government Reference Library contains more than 10,500 peer-reviewed
publications. This multi-disciplinary study domain benefits from
researchers and practitioners from diverse fields, including but not
limited to public administration, information systems, information
science, and political science. As the domain matures, it is useful for
scholars and other stakeholders to examine the state of the body of
knowledge.
To this end, several key questions emerge. Given the applied nature of
Digital Government, what is the role of theory? What are the fundamental
theoretical contributions to or from Digital Government discipline, if
any? What is the appropriate balance of theory and practice in this
domain of study? What are the reference disciplines for Digital
Government, if any? Does Digital Government have, or shall Digital
Government have, a "home" (anchor) discipline? Is Digital Government
(can, or shall, it evolve into) its own discipline? What relevance does
the Digital Government body of knowledge have to practice?
The purpose of this mini-track is to explore the role of theory
development in this applied discipline. We hope to receive submissions
from scholars with diverse views on the current status of the domain and
the role of theory development in it.
We welcome submissions on varied topics, such as (but not limited to):
— Digital Government Theory Development
— The Role of Theory Development and Theory Integration in Digital
Government
— Fundamental Digital Government Theories
— The Status of the Digital Government Domain (discipline, or not?)
— The Future of Digital Government Research
— Digital Government Research Methodologies
— Digital Government Reference Disciplines, if any
— Multi-disciplinary studies in Digital Government
— Inter-disciplinary studies in Digital Government
Minitrack papers should be submitted online via the HICSS submission
system by June 15, 2018. The accepted papers will be used to drive the
discussion at a pre-conference workshop that explores e-government
theory development and its relationship to applied research in the
field. We will recruit workshop participants with diverse views on the
role of theory development in e-government to promote critical
discussion of the current status and future trajectory of the discipline.

CALL FOR PAPERS - IEEE SOCA 2018
The 11 th IEEE International Conference on Service Oriented Computing
and Applications (SOCA 2018)
Paris, France
November 6 - 9, 2017
http://conferences.computer.org/soca
*Submission Deadline: July 14, 2018*
Dear Colleagues:
We cordially invite you to share your latest research results at the
SOCA 2018 Conference.
----------------------
CALL FOR PAPERS
----------------------
Service-oriented computing (SOC) is considered today a key enabler for
the development of robust and high-quality intelligent Internet-scale
distributed applications. Extensive research and development in the past
few years has pushed SOC technology into state-of-the-art applications
in emerging areas such as Cloud computing, Internet-of-Things (IoT),
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication, Cyber-Physical Systems
(CPSs), Mobile-Edge Computing, Social computing as well as mobile and
enterprise systems. However, many of the critical components on building
reliable, robust, and user-centric, cloud-based service-oriented
architecture applications and systems are still open for research.
Hence, it is time to face new service-oriented architecture (SOA)
research opportunities by addressing new research challenges on emerging
applications domains like smart cities, smart logistics, smart factories
and e-Health, just to mention a few.
Many of the service components are deployed on resource-limited embedded
systems and are performance sensitive; others are deployed on cloud
servers providing highly parallel services and on edge servers in the
middle of resource-limited systems and high-end servers. Edge servers
and clouds are connected through various types of networks, including
emerging network function virtualization services.
These components are part of complex applications and systems that span
multiple execution environments.
Their capabilities are increasingly being managed and (re)configured via
emerging software-defined and elasticity mechanisms. In addition, they
have to interact with humans in order to obtain useful human-sensing
data and solve complex problems. Thus, on the one hand, SOC may provide
effective solutions for managing the ever-increasing complexity while
meeting the challenging requirements of services on largely distributed,
heterogeneous and dynamic resource environments. On the other hand, the
exploitation of emerging trends in such environments to build SOC
applications and systems for large-scale service-based systems is an
open research challenge.
The 2018 IEEE International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and
Applications (SOCA 2018) provides an international forum for researchers
from multiple disciplines to exchange and share their experiences,
ideas, and latest research results on all aspects of service-oriented
computing. The conference includes three days of parallel-track program,
special-topic workshops, keynotes and tutorials, and panel discussion.
We invite submissions of high-quality papers describing fully developed
results or ongoing work on the following topics and related areas:
-Service-oriented architectures, engineering, and applications
-Cloud-based service systems
-SOCA in IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems
-Service Models and Applications for Mobile-Edge Computing
-Service coordination techniques in IoT and cloud environments
-SOC-based smart process and workflow management
-Configurable, reconfigurable and software-defined service middleware
-Data analytics and data services in and for SOC-based systems
-IoT and data marketplaces
-Smart data and service contracts
-Cognitive computing techniques for SOCA
-Social computing for and atop SOCA
-SOCA development, deployment and testing tools and methodologies
-Security and privacy for SOCA
-Dependable and trustworthy SOCA
-SOCA for smart applications (cities, transportation systems,
factories, homes and offices, etc.)
