``What can FCA do for Artificial
Intelligence?''
co-located with IJCAI 2018, Stockholm, Sweden
July 13 2018
http://www.fca4ai.hse.ru/2018
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Information.
The five preceding editions of the FCA4AI Workshop (ECAI 2016, 2014 and
2012, IJCAI 2015 and 2013) showed that many researchers working in
Artificial Intelligence are indeed interested in a powerful method for
classification and mining such as Formal Concept Analysis (see CEUR
Proceedings Vol-1703, Vol-1430, Vol-1257, Vol-1058, and Vol-939).
This year, we have the chance to organize a new edition of the workshop
in Stockholm co-located with the IJCAI 2018 Conference.
Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is a mathematically well-founded theory
aimed at data analysis and classification. FCA allows one to build a
concept lattice and a system of dependencies (implications) which can be
used for many AI needs, e.g. knowledge processing, knowledge discovery,
knowledge representation and reasoning, ontology engineering, as well as
information retrieval, recommendation, social network analysis and text
processing. Thus, there exist many ``natural links'' between FCA and AI.
Recent years have been witnessing increased scientific activity around
FCA, in particular a strand of work emerged that is aimed at extending
the possibilities of FCA w.r.t. knowledge processing, such as work on
pattern structures and relational concept analysis. These extensions are
aimed at allowing FCA to deal with more complex than just binary data,
for solving problems in data analysis, knowledge discovery, knowledge
representation, ontology engineering, and many more.
All these works extend the capabilities of FCA and offer new
possibilities for AI activities in the framework of FCA.
Accordingly, in this workshop, we will be interested in the following
main issues:
- How can FCA support AI activities such as knowledge processing
(knowledge discovery, knowledge representation and reasoning),
learning (clustering, pattern and data mining), natural language
processing, or information retrieval?
- How can FCA be extended in order to help AI researchers to solve new
and complex problems in their domain?
The workshop is dedicated to discussing such issues.
TOPICS OF INTEREST include but are not limited to:
- Concept lattices and related structures: description logics, pattern
structures, relational structures.
- Knowledge discovery and data mining with FCA: association rules,
itemsets and data dependencies, attribute implications, data
pre-processing, redundancy and dimensionality reduction, classification
and clustering.
- Knowledge engineering and ontology engineering: knowledge
representation and reasoning.
- Scalable algorithms for concept lattices and artificial intelligence
``in the large'' (distributed aspects, big data).
- Applications of concept lattices: semantic web, information retrieval,
visualization and navigation, pattern recognition, and practical
applications in agronomy, biology, chemistry, finance, manufacturing,
medicine, etc.
The workshop will include time for audience discussion toward developing
a better understanding of the issues, challenges, and ideas being presented.

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for Book Chapters: Blockchain and DLT Use Cases
Date: Wed, 23 May 2018 15:22:07 +0200
From: Horst Treiblmaier <horst.treiblmaier(a)modul.ac.at>
To: AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org
*** CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS ***
Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology Use Cases: Applications and
Lessons Learned
(published by Springer)
Within a short couple of years, Blockchain and other trustless systems
have turned from being relatively obscure technologies, which were only
known to a small community of computer scientists and cryptologists,
into mainstream phenomena that are seen as powerful game changers for
many industries. Given the manifold potential applications of Blockchain
to substitute or remove intermediaries, it does not come as a surprise
that the expectations from industry are high or even exaggerated.
Simultaneously, various applied academic communities have taken up the
subject and actively research either the technology or its implications.
Given that the dust of the initial hype has settled, it is now time to
explore how sustainable value can be created with the use of Blockchain
and related technologies implementing, exploring and evaluating real use
cases.
For this call for papers, we therefore invite chapters that describe the
application of Blockchain and related technologies in real-world use
cases. We will publish papers that clearly outline how those
technologies have been applied, what the rationale for their application
was and, finally, what the outcome was. It is the goal of this book to
provide a broad collection of applications, experiences and lessons
learned pertaining to a wide variety of industries and application
areas, including, but not limited to, financial markets, energy,
tourism, SCM, IoT, law and compliance.
*** Structure ***
We are looking for chapters that thoroughly discuss use cases of
Blockchain and related technologies. Each chapter needs to clearly
specify how the technology was applied and what exactly the outcome was.
Ideally, the authors comment on how those technologies helped to improve
performance in comparison to traditional systems. A critical position
should be taken and the advantages and disadvantages of Blockchain use
should be discussed. We highly appreciated the discussion of failures as
long as the case is well-documented. More specifically, the requirements
for acceptance are:
• Case study is relevant to the book’s theme
• Objectives are clear and well-described
• Chapter will draw an audience
• Chapter is well organized and flows logically
• Methodology is appropriate
• Evidence supports authors’ arguments
*** Formatting ***
All final submissions must have 6,000-9,000 words and follow the
template provided by the publisher. The references must be formatted
following APA style. Submissions that do not use this template or
deviate from the formatting requirements will be rejected without review.
*** Important Dates ***
• Submission of an Extended Abstract (~ 1,000 words): before October
31, 2018
• Submission of the Chapter: before May 31, 2019
*** Procedure ***
Interested authors can learn more, or submit a paper, by contacting the
editors directly.

Call for Papers
Seventh International Workshop on Modeling and Management of Big Data
(MoBiD)
http://www.lucentia.es/workshop/mobid18/
In conjunction with ER2018 (The 37th International Conference on
Conceptual Modeling), Xi'an, China, 22-25 October, 2018.

================================================================
Introduction
-----------------
Enormous amounts of data are already present and still rapidly growing
due to data sources such as sensors and social networks. There has been
an increasing interest in incorporating these huge amounts of external
and unstructured data, normally referred to as “Big Data”, into
traditional applications. This necessity has made that traditional
database systems and processing need to evolve and accommodate them. We
view that several key themes with the Big Data trends include (i)
managing Big Data projects to discover business values; (ii) developing
an architecture for a Big Data environment to conceptualize goals,
tasks, and problem-solving methods to apply to domains; (iii) exploring
problem-solving methods for Big Data; (iv) using a cloud for managing
large-scale external and internal data; and (v) providing an easy-to-use
but powerful services to access/manage/analyze the Big Data in the cloud.
Therefore, this new era of Big Data and cloud environment requires
conceptualization and methods to effectively manage Big Data and
accomplish intended business goals. Thus, the objective of MoBiD’18 is
to be an international forum for exchanging ideas on the latest and best
proposals for modeling and managing Big Data in this new data-driven
paradigm. Papers focusing on novel applications and using conceptual
modeling approaches for any aspects of Big Data such as Hadoop and its
ecosystems, Big Data Analytics, social networking, security and privacy,
hybrid cloud, Big Data warehousing, data science topics, etc. are highly
encouraged. The workshop will be a forum for researchers and

An ever-expanding digital world has created a desire for increasingly
smart business applications. Virtually every enterprise now aims to
explore and harness the full potential of large data volumes. For
data-driven goals, machine learning offers the opportunity of automated
extraction and processing of actionable information from vast amounts of
raw data.
While the investigation of learning problems as well as the development
and analysis of learning systems can be considered as a dynamic, yet
well-established research area, the broad application of machine
learning in business contexts gains more and more attention from both
researchers and practitioners. These business contexts result in a wide
range research objects: single business decisions which benefit from
incremental improvements of existing analytical applications; entire
business processes with their innovation and improvement cycles;
business networks that interact based on new types of products and
services and the like.
The substantial impact of machine learning technologies on these
research objects causes growing demand for adequate approaches in
research and practice. On the level of information systems this includes
methods for the management of the enterprise architecture based on
envisioned next generation enterprise systems. In the areas of
organizational and strategic design, several approaches need to be
extended or re-thought, including the definition and improvement of
business processes and their management, the creation and integration of
new product and service offerings as well as the coordination and
(re-)configuration of business networks.
Deepening knowledge about the underlying causal relationships between
design decisions, actors’ behavior, and business outcomes is an ongoing
and challenging task that deserves to be addressed by researchers,
managers and decision makers seeking for innovative and sustainable
business models.

(Part of the Collaboration Systems and Technology track )
HAWAII INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SYSTEM SCIENCES

Given the current turbulent state of world economy, outsourcing is
coming under tremendous pressure. Companies are no longer providing
long-term contracts but are renewing them based on deliverables from
outsourced companies. This is putting tremendous pressure on teams to
deliver quality product on time. Team adaptability and team
configuration are becoming crucial to meet deadlines. Teams must be able
to adapt quickly to the changing environment. Agile teams adapt and
deliver quickly and provide maximum customer satisfaction. By
definition, however, agile teams must be co-located. Can distributed
teams be agile and adaptable? This requires careful team configuration.
Distributed teams face many challenges of time, location,
infrastructure, language, customs, socialization and politics. This is
further compounded in globally distributed teams by diversity,
nationality and cultural issues. As old issue are resolved, new
challenges emerge that require knowledge from multiple disciplines such
as information systems, social sciences, international management,
leadership and political science. It is almost impossible for one
individual to have expertise in so many domains, which makes this a very
challenging but ultimately rewarding collaborative area of research.
Given the richness and research potential of this area, it is essential
to brainstorm and bring diverse points of view to develop underlying
theory and frameworks. The mini track will attempt to accomplish these
objectives.
The mini track will address emerging issue such as diversity, culture,
adaptability and agility related to teams in distributed group decision
making, as well as the underlying theories of group dynamics,
coordination, communications and decision-making in distributed
environments, in creation of competitive advantage.
Examples of topics in the discussion of globally distributed decision
making mini-track will include the following (but are not limited to):
* Fake news impact on collaboration
* Disaster management
* Swift team collaboration
* Collaboration among virtual groups
* Sub groups impact on team collaboration
* Big data collaboration
* E-government(s) inter- , intra-collaboration
* Collaboration through crowdsourcing
* Emergency disaster planning through collaboration
* Collaboration in the cloud.
* Public-private collaboration
* Delivering health services through collaboration
* Economics of distributed decision making in the clouds
* Trust and distrust as motivator in distributed decision making
* Can agile teams be globally distributed?
* Agile/Adaptable team configuration in globally distributed teams
* The "e (internet)" to "m (mobile)" transformation of globally
distributed teams
* Communication and coordination in globally distributed teams
* Diversity issues in globally distributed teams
* Customer satisfaction, performance and "trust" building in globally
distributed teams
* Synchronous and asynchronous decision making in globally distributed teams
* Comparison of issues across internal, inter-, intra and offshore
distributed teams
* Turbulent economy and its impact on outsourcing
* Leadership/cohesiveness issues in globally distributed teams
* Issues related to functional and dysfunctional globally distributed teams
* Security, privacy and risk associated with globally distributed teams
* Case Studies (success/failures) related to decision making by globally
distributed teams
