*http://tecomo2019.wordpress.com <http://tecomo2019.wordpress.com>*
*http://twitter.com/TeCoMo_MT <http://twitter.com/TeCoMo_MT>*
In it’s inaugural year, the *Teaching Conceptual Modeling 2019 (TeCoMo)*
Minitrack co-located with HICSS-52 focuses on how to teach the use of
conceptual models to students, as students often struggle with selecting
the right level of abstraction, strive for aesthetics and must understand
the rules of the used graphical language, while trying to separate
“inventing” the system from “describing” the system.
This Minitrack explores challenges, experiences, approaches, ideas, and new
impulses in teaching conceptual modeling. In a highly interactive
atmosphere, where the challenges of teaching conceptual modeling can be
discussed, positioned, and addressed, we seek thought-provoking and highly
constructive discussions among a broad audience and presenters in order to
jointly identify promising educational approaches. We seek to try out
proposed approaches, foster empirical studies, and facilitate collaboration
between industry and academia in teaching conceptual modeling.
*TeCoMo* accepts contributions focused on, but not limited to the following
topics:
- Teaching approaches for conceptual modeling
- Experience reports, especially challenges, difficulties, pitfalls, and
negative experiences with learning success, project/assignment outcome, or
the application of teaching approaches
- Assignment/Project ideas, experiences, and instructional support for
student work
- Methods of instruction, e.g., flipped classroom, problem-based learning
- Case studies and case examples from industry and academia
- Proposals for and/or results of empirical studies on conceptual
modeling
- Methods and strategies of feedback and grading of student work
- Conceptual modeling curricula and course structures
- Teaching semantics, content, correctness, adequacy, aesthetics, and
consistency of models, levels of abstraction, model integration, and
code-generation
- Teaching model quality, meta modeling, and a structured modeling
process
- Teaching modeling frameworks, languages, and diagram types
Special Interest Topics
In particular, we seek experience reports and empirical results.
*We explicitly encourage reports of negative experiences, failed attempts,
or poor results in order to provoke discussions, find commonalities, and
surmount challenges. Don't be shy!*
*Event Format*
*TeCoMo* a highly interactive format combining different elements.
Classical paper presentations and presentations lay the foundation for
discussions. Particularly, we intend to provoke discussions aiming at
gaining an understanding of commonalities and differences of the different
types of systems.
*Venue*
The workshop will be held in conjunction with HICSS-52 in Grand Weilea,
Maui, Hawai’i (USA) <http://hicss.hawaii.edu/>. More details on the venue
can be found in the program section
<https://tecomo2019.wordpress.com/venue-program/>.
*Call for Papers & Submission*
The Call for Papers can be found here
<https://tecomo2019.wordpress.com/call-for-papers/>.
When drafting your manuscript, please adhere strictly to the HICSS-52
author formating instructions <https://tecomo2019.wordpress.com/submission/>
.
Manuscripts are expected to be submitted through the Submission System.

Important dates
Submission Deadline: 30 April, 2018
Notifications Due: 5 June, 2018
Camera-ready: 15 June, 2018
Workshops: 2 September, 2018
Citizens Science is a relatively new field of study that is in constant
development. Despite its young age, it has already been proven that
Citizen Science can be beneficial as much as Classical Science. There
are varied sectors such as scientific research, science literacy
improvement, community services, ecological knowledge, environmental
education, technology and many more are created for citizen science
programs. The main objective is to contributing data, helping
researchers to find solution, and monitoring the problems and providing
solutions. Nevertheless, it has particular problem: every Citizens
Science project uses databases, which are in turn typically disjunct,
disparate, incomplete, and outdated. However, the monitoring and
building comprehensive up-to-date database is one of the main challenges
for citizen science database. In addition, the lack of user
participation, funding, flexible database design and user-friendly
applications are also other challenges.
Volunteer-based participation of citizens is one of the main solutions
for monitoring databases and collecting data. Similarly, designing the
flexible approaches to collect the data, providing services to use
gathered data in various sectors of science, designing user friendly
design approach for user involvement are possible solutions considered
in citizen science database programs.
To address some of those concerns if not all the 1st International
Work-shop on Citizen Science Applications and Citizen Data-Bases (CSADB
2018) is proposed with the aim to provide a platform for exchanging
empirical and theoretical research results about CSADB problems and
solutions.
The list of workshop topics (but not limited to)
* Applications and case studies of citizen sciences stemming from
* Environmental issues
* City Pollution
* Citizens alertness for issues around living environment
* Natural resources protection programs
* Smart Cities
* Ecology
* Natural Disasters alertness (for example forest fires)
* Scientific research
* Science literacy improvement
* Community services
* Ecological knowledge
* Environmental education
* Citizens data gathering principals and scenario models
* Citizens data collection scenarios
* Citizens activities and motivational theories
* Modeling, analytics and design of citizen science applications,
databases, conceptual models
* Systems adaptation according current needs, circumstances and culture
* Enhancement of database technology and techniques for citizen science
applications
* Data-intensive applications for users based on semantic web
* Collaborative behavior management
* Environmental, privacy and social issues of citizen science domain
* User requirements and engineering life cycle for citizen science systems
* User-aware supportive and intelligent systems
* Intelligent responsive systems
* Learning systems based on cognitive modelling and knowledge integration
* Semantic Web content creation, annotation, and extraction
* Use of common vocabularies for citizen science applications
The aim of the CSADB Workshop is to bring together Computer Science and
information systems experts, and more precisely Data Scientists,
involved in citizen science applications engineering. The goal is to
exchange experiences and view-points in building state of the art
solutions from realizations, challenges, and reuse, to adapting
solutions that have been proposed in other domains.
Paper submission procedures
Papers will be subject to peer review by at least three members of an
international program committee.
