Date: Fri, 7 Dec 2018 17:02:28 +0000
From: Templeton, Gary <GTempleton(a)business.msstate.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Call for Papers: AMCIS 2019: Mini-track: Problems in Financial
Information Technology (PCFTMD ’19)
Track: Decision Sciences and Analytics (SIGDSA)
25th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), Aug. 15-17, 2019
Cancun, Quintana Roo, MX
This mini-track solicits papers using methods to critically examine
issues hampering the emergence and understanding of financial
information technology (FIT) in research and practice. Authors are
encouraged to identify and investigate three specific problem areas in
finance that affect modern organizations: technology (“FinTech”),
analytics and messy data. What are the problems and solutions in these
areas? What can researchers do to move beyond the current state of
research and practice concerning these IS-relevant issues? In what ways
do specified problems impact important IS theories and streams, such as
the Productivity Paradox, IT Business Value, and Information Economics?
What are the pros and cons and comparative performance of any proposed
solutions? Such are the types of questions that may be explored in this
mini-track.
We are particularly interested in completed or emerging research
addressing the conference theme, New Frontiers in Digital Convergence.
Therefore, we hold at a premium papers advancing our understanding of
organizations engaged in digital convergence for value creation. In
particular, we are interested in information technology firms since they
engage in digital convergence out of competitive necessity.
We encourage thought provoking papers utilizing the wealth of archival
data (e.g., Compustat and CRPS) accessible by many in the IS research
community. We especially value thought provoking papers pushing known
boundaries of the three mentioned FIT themes (FinTech, analytics and
messy data) in order to improve IS practice. For these reasons, we are
interested in high quality papers that illuminates and addresses the
effects of the following issues (among others) on modern organizations:
FinTech
· Finance-Technology alignment
· Resistance to change
· Barriers to innovation
· Systems scalability
· FinTech Success
· Outsourcing FinTech
· Issues specific to FinTech Firms
· Compliance management
· FinTech application frontiers
Financial Analytics
· Workflows
· Queries
· Data storage
· Analytical efficiency and economics
· Analytical skills
· Data security and privacy
· User friendliness of big data
· Analytical procedures
Messy Financial Data
· non-normality
· missing data
· imputation
· inflated frequencies
· variables with low levels (e.g., binary)
· outliers
· negative denominators
· measurement bias

We live in a data-rich world. Virtually all of our activities are recorded
and stored, providing an abundant source of data and an unprecedented
opportunity to address perennial questions in social science, especially in
Information Systems. Thanks to the implosion in data analytics tools such
as data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, researchers have
the ability to augment understanding of existing problems and elucidate
current perplexing issues. Large-scale problems are no longer a
hard-to-reach problem, but an interesting one with a plethora of research
directions. Recognizing this trend, articles in leading research outlets
like Nature and Communications of the ACM have started to solicit calls in
this nascent research field to attract more researchers to work on
interesting problems. As a guideline for future researchers, even a
manifesto of computation social science has been published.
As a trailblazer in data management, data manipulation, data analytics, and
information extraction, Information Systems has the ability to demonstrate
both rigor and relevance of answering social science questions through the
innovative use of data and data analytics algorithms.
This minitrack encourages research on current and future challenges and
opportunities relating to the application of computational algorithms to
solve, explain, or unveil social phenomena. Submissions may focus on novel
algorithm designs, data aggregation and explanation, new and interesting
directions in explaining and solving social phenomena. Research in any
domains are welcome, including but not pertaining only to, healthcare,
technology adoption, social media, politics, social benefit distribution,
food deserts, cybercrime, privacy, and smart government. Below is a list of
recommended topics, however, other relevant topics are also welcome:
- Algorithm designs in computational social science
- Computational Social Science strategies and influences in Information
Systems
- The role of Information Systems in Computational Social Science
- Computational Social Science interdisciplinary research
- Computational Social Science in Cybersecurity, Cyberforensics, and
Privacy
- Computational Social Science with Big Data applications
- Computational Social Science in Politics
- Ethics of Computational Social Science research on human behavior
Submission Deadline: March 1, 2019 at 10:00am PST
<http://airmail.calendar/2019-03-01%2010:00:00%20PST>

Subject: [WI] Wirtschaftsinformatik 2019 (24.-27. Februar 2019 in Siegen)
Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2018 13:53:43 +0000
From: Ludwig, Thomas, Jun.-Prof. Dr. <thomas.ludwig(a)uni-siegen.de>
Reply-To: Ludwig, Thomas, Jun.-Prof. Dr. <thomas.ludwig(a)uni-siegen.de>
To: Ludwig, Thomas, Jun.-Prof.
Kneipenlandschaft kennenzulernen (https://wi2019.de/pub-crawl/),
Dezember
2018).
Viele Grüße,
Thomas Ludwig.

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for Papers: 1st IEEE Int. Conference on
Process Mining (ICPM) 2019
Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2018 00:17:41 +0000
From: Laura Juliff <laura.juliff(a)unimelb.edu.au>

IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PROCESS MINING (ICPM)
Aachen (Germany), 24-26 June 2019
http://icpmconference.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
The IEEE International Conference on Process Mining (ICPM) aims to
become the premium forum for researchers, practitioners and developers
in process mining. The objective is to explore and exchange knowledge in
this field through scientific talks, industry discussions, contests,
technical tutorials and panels. The conference covers all aspects of
process mining research and practice, including theory, algorithmic
challenges, applications and the connection with other fields.
Process mining is an innovative research field which focusses on
extracting business process insights from transactional data commonly
recorded by IT systems, with the ultimate goal of analyzing and
improving organizational productivity along performance dimensions such
as efficiency, quality, compliance and risk. By relying on data rather
than perceptions gained from interviews and workshops, process mining
shifts the way of thinking from confidence-based to evidence-based
business process management. Thus, process mining distinguishes itself
within the information systems domain by its fundamental, evidence-based
focus on understanding, analyzing, and improving business processes.
Compared with other data-driven research areas such as machine learning
or data mining, process mining differs in the fundamental assumptions
that data is generated in the context of more or less structured
processes, and that the data contains explicit references to instances
of these processes. Another key difference with other data-analysis
techniques is that analysis results have to be explained in the context
of these (interacting) processes.
Current process mining challenges include scalability, i.e. dealing with
volume, velocity and variability of input data, especially in
real-time/online settings using event streams; approximation, i.e.
balancing computation time with accuracy; understandability and
explainability, i.e. providing easy-to-understand and explainable
analytics; multi-perspective analysis, i.e. considering data, resources
and time beyond the process control flow; measurability, e.g., providing
a comprehensive framework for measuring differences between observed and
modelled process behavior, and ethical aspects of process mining, i.e.
how to ensure that process mining procedures and results do not violate
ethical principles.
ICPM 2019 will take place in Aachen, Germany, under the auspices of the
IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and supported by the IEEE Task
Force on Process Mining. Aachen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, is
well known for its historic old-town centre and the lively student life.
Aachen offers many places of interest, including Aachen Cathedral in the
heart of the city. The building was completed at the end of the 8th
century by Emperor Charlemagne and became the first UNESCO World
Heritage site in Germany. The Elisenbrunnen fountain represents Aachen
as a spa and bathing city. Not only the Romans appreciated these hot
springs, but also Charlemagne. ICPM will be co-located with the 40th
International Conference on Application and Theory of Petri Nets and
Concurrency (Petri Nets 2019), and the 19th IEEE International
Conference on Application of Concurrency to System Design (ACSD 2019).
The three events will take place in the conference area of the Tivoli
football stadium close to the Aachen’s city center.
ICPM 2019 encourages papers on new techniques and applications for
process mining, as well as case studies coming from industrial
scenarios. Also, papers describing novel process mining tools are
expected. For new techniques, the availability of an implementation
(which has to be accessible by the reviewers) is essential. Authors are
expected to provide insights into the performance of new techniques on
established, publicly-available benchmark datasets, or to release their
datasets for replicability purposes. Empirical papers should build,
where possible, on novel datasets previously unpublished, while research
on existing datasets must clearly explain the novelty of the applied
analysis.
The thematic areas in which contributions are sought include, but are
not limited to, those listed below.
Process mining techniques:
- Automated discovery of process models
- Conformance/compliance analysis
- Construction of event logs
- Improving quality of event logs
- Decision mining for processes
- Mining from non-process-aware systems / event streams
- Multi-perspective process mining
- Simulation/optimization and process mining
- Predictive process analytics
- Prescriptive process analytics and recommender systems
- Privacy, security and ethics
- Process model repair
- Process performance mining
- Process mining quality measures
- Variants/deviance analysis and root-cause analysis
- Visual process analytics
Applications and case studies in:
- Business Activity Monitoring and Business Intelligence
- Business Process Management
- Operations Management and Lean Six Sigma
- Process Performance Measurement
- Process Reengineering
- Resource Management
- Risk Management
- Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
- Sensors, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and wearable devices
- Specific domains such as accounting, finance, government, healthcare,
manufacturing

Subject: [AISWorld] One month left to submit to SPW2019
Date: Tue, 04 Dec 2018 23:02:07 -0330
From: Jonathan Anderson <jonathan.anderson(a)mun.ca>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
The organizing committee of the International Workshop on Security
Protocols would like to remind you that the twenty-seventh workshop will
be held 10-12 April 2019 at Trinity College in Cambridge, UK. Attendance
is by invitation only: we invite the submission of position papers by 4
Jan 2019, and authors of selected papers will be invited to participate
in the workshop.
https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/events/spw/2019
The theme of the 2019 workshop is "security protocols for humans".
Getting protocol details right is critical in the presence of a
malicious adversary, but so is understanding the context in which a
protocol is deployed: protocols are components of larger systems that
human beings put their trust in. How can we design protocols to expose
meaningful information about state and functionality to their users?
What are the consequences when we don't? How can we bridge the gap
between technical definitions of protocol correctness and users'
security expectations?
As in previous years, the theme should inspire rather than constrain:
all submissions in the broad area of security protocols will be
considered. Authors should submit position papers or extended abstracts
to jonathan.anderson(a)mun.ca by 4 Jan 2019; responses will be given by 11
Feb 2019.
