Minitrack: Creation and Appropriation of Knowledge Systems
(http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-51/knowledge-innovation-and-entrepreneurial-…)
Part of the Track: Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems
Minitrack description:
The objective of this minitrack is to contribute to the body of knowledge that helps scholars and practitioners increase their collective understanding of
1. how knowledge systems are planned, designed, constructed, implemented, used, evaluated, supported, upgraded, and evolved;
2. how knowledge systems impact the context in which they are embedded; and
3. the human behaviors reflected within and induced through both (1) and (2) (adapted from Benbasat and Zmud 2003).
By knowledge system, we mean a system in which human participants and/or machines perform work (processes and activities) related to the creation, retention, transfer and/or application of knowledge using information, technology, and other resources to produce informational products and/or services for internal or external customers (adapted from Alter 2008). Such systems may include, but are not limited to, knowledge management systems, decision systems, social media, expert systems, machine learning systems, and other AI systems as well as any other IT-enabled knowledge management processes.
We welcome both design science and design theory research in knowledge systems as well as behavioral research related to the appropriation of knowledge systems in order to span the entire lifecycle of knowledge systems.
Topics relevant for submissions include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Theoretical models, methodologies, tools as well as technological and managerial practices for planning, designing, constructing, implementing, using, evaluating, supporting and upgrading knowledge systems
* Case studies focusing on the implementation of knowledge processes and technologies (e.g., virtual reality, social media, expert systems, data analytics, AI, machine learning, e-learning)
* Systems design for social knowledge creation and use (e.g. social media system architectures)
* Development of frameworks for classifying knowledge systems
* Incorporating and/or integrating knowledge services and mashups, social media, Web 2.0, cloud computing, and/or ubiquitous technologies in knowledge systems
* Appropriation and use of social media upon individual users, groups, businesses, and governments for knowledge management
* Changing organizational cultures and structures through knowledge systems
* Design, evaluation, and/or use of processes, semantic technologies, knowledge retrieval and representation methods, and/or systems to map, track and/or visualize social networks and/or work systems in order to facilitate knowledge creation and sharing and quick problem solving (e.g., when unexpected coordination breakdowns emerge)
* Risks and challenges of knowledge systems for knowledge practices (e.g. information overload, technostress, and protection of information assets)
* Design processes, representations, and/or kernel (reference) theories for co-designing and/or co-evolving work and knowledge systems
* Human computer interaction in a knowledge system context
* Issues in, limitations of and barriers to tacit knowledge management

Call for Papers
1st International Workshop on Business Process Management in the Cloud -
BPM@Cloud 2017
in conjunction with the 6th European Conference on Service-Oriented and
Cloud Computing - ESOCC 2017
OFFICIAL WORKSHOP CFP: https://www.easychair.org/cfp/bpmcloud2017
DESCRIPTION:
To reduce costs as well as allow a more flexible provisioning of their
business processes (BPs) and services, organisations are continuously
thinking to move to the cloud. However, most of them do not have the
appropriate expertise towards performing this move. As such, there is a
need of platforms which are able to realise respective methods, techniques
and algorithms that provide the appropriate cloud-based support level to
these organisations. This support level should enable organisations to
check which parts of their business processes should be moved to the cloud
as well as cater for bridging the gap between the business and IT level.
Moreover, it should assist in the allocation, publishing, execution,
monitoring, evaluation and adaptive provisioning of these business
processes, thus catering for their appropriate management based on the four
main lifecycle activities of BP design, allocation, execution and
evaluation. By moving and offering business processes in the cloud, the
notion of Business Process as a Service (BPaaS) is realised which is
projected to become quite profitable for the organisations participating in
its value chain which can play the role of Brokers, BPaaS management
platform operators, or software developers. Thus, BPaaS not only caters for
migrating existing BPs in the cloud but can also become a novel
exploitation product in the cloud stack that will further boost the
adoption of cloud computing.
The workshop invites research papers that deal with any subject that is
relevant for the realisation of the BPaaS vision according to either
business, technical or both perspectives. Research and development work on
facilitating any kind of management for BPs in the cloud is more than
welcome as well as innovative work that attempts to deal with the
well-known business-to-IT alignment problem. Research that advances the
state-of-the-art in cloud computing in areas related to BP management
(e.g., cloud orchestration) are considered quite relevant. Novel cloud
platforms supporting the advertisement and management of business process
or workflows are also relevant. Finally, papers focusing on conveying
practical knowledge or important issues related to moving or managing BPs

Social Information Systems Minitrack
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-51)
Track: Digital and Social Media
http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-51/digital-and-social-media/
Conference Date: January 3-6, 2018| Hilton Waikoloa Village
======================================================
*** Submission Deadline: June 15, 2017 ***
======================================================
With the advent of Web 2.0 social media technologies have been spreading. They add to the existing forms of transactional information systems by focusing on user generated content and the interaction with users. Beside technical aspects and requirements (e.g. Web 2.0 techniques, semantic interoperability, data analysis and fusion, social analytics), the integration of different parties, such as internal as well as external stakeholders, has become an important challenge for these social information systems. They may be defined as information systems that are "based on social technologies and open collaboration."
>From this definition, four characteristics of social information systems may be derived: weak ties, social production, egalitarianism and mutual service provisioning. Weak-ties are spontaneously established contacts between individuals that create new views and allow combining competencies. Social Production is the creation of artifacts, by combining the input from independent contributors without predetermining the way to do this. Egalitarianism is the attitude of handling individuals equally. Social information systems overcome the separation of the service provider and consumer by introducing the idea, that service provisioning is a mutual process of service exchange and thus co-creation of value.
In this minitrack we seek papers that explore how social information systems are designed, implemented, operated and integrated. Possible topics are:
- New methods for developing and understanding social information systems
- Impact of weak ties, social production, egalitarianism and mutual service provisioning
- Businesses processes enabled by social information systems
- Link of social business processes and other business processes
- Modeling of social processes for social information systems
- New technologies and architectures for social information systems
- Data creation and analytics within social information systems
For further conference details, schedules and submission guidelines, please see: http://www.hicss.org/http://www.hicss.org/. Selected paper of the minitrack will be fast-tracked to a special issue of Electronic Markets - The International Journal on Networked Business (http://www.electronicmarkets.org/, IF: 1.404).

Call for papers
New developments in Analytics, Big Data, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence rely on digital devices and the Internet of Things (IoT) that are in continuous use and are capable of monitoring the minutiae of our lives. Huge quantities of real time data are generated and processed through pre-determined algorithms that provide the information that many decision makers depend on. However, the quality of the information that is produced by these algorithms is contingent on the quality of the information systems and their data. Therefore, embedding sophisticated analytics efforts and simulation models into the everyday work of the business requires integration with the processes and information systems that support them combined with changing the behavior of the people who perform that work.
Motivated by a symbiotic relationship, this collaborative stream between the Operational Research Society and the UK Academy for Information Systems seeks contributions that examine the relationships between information systems and operational research for the benefit of individuals, organizations and/or wider society.

Ass. Prof. at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences
June 12th - 13th 2017 | Salzburg, Austria |www.idsc.at <http://www.idsc.at/>
The 1st International Data Science Conference (iDSC 2017) organized by
Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (Information Technology and
Systems Management) in cooperation with Information Professionals GmbH
seeks to establish a key Data Science event, providing a forum for an
international exchange on Data Science technologies and applications.
The International Data Science Conference gives the participants the
opportunity, over the course of two days, to delve into the most current
research and up-to-date practice in Data Science and data-driven
business. Besides the two parallel tracks, the Research Track and the
Industry Track, on the second day a Symposium is taking place presenting
the outcomes of a European Project on Text and Data Mining (TDM). These
events are open to all participants.
Also we are proud to announcekeynote presentations
<http://idsc.at/program/a_keynote-speakers/>fromMike
Olson<https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikeolson2/>(Chief Strategy Officer
Cloudera),Ralf Klinkenberg
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/klinkenberg/>(General Manager
RapidMiner),Euro Beinat
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/eurobeinat/>(Data-Science Professor and
Managing Director CS Research),Mario Meir-Huber
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/mario-meir-huber/>(Big Data Architect
Microsoft). These keynotes will be distributed over both conference
days, providing times for all participants to come together and share
views on challenges and trends in Data Science.
The*Research Track* <http://idsc.at/program/speakers/>offers a series of
short presentations from Data Science researchers on their own, current
papers. On both conference days, we are planning a morning and an
afternoon session presenting the results of innovative research into
data mining, machine learning, data management and the entire spectrum
of Data Science.
The*Industry Track* <http://idsc.at/program/speakers/>**showcases real
practitioners of data-driven business and how they use Data Science to
help achieve organizational goals. Though not restricted to these topics
only, the industry talks will concentrate on our broad focus areas of
manufacturing, retail and social good. Users of data technologies can
meet with peers and exchange ideas and solutions to the practical
challenges of data-driven business.
Futhermore the Symposium is organized in collaboration with
theFutureTDM<http://project.futuretdm.eu/>Consortium. FutureTDM is a
European project which over the last two years has been identifying the
legal and technical barriers, as well as the skills
stakeholders/practitioners lack, that inhibit the uptake of text and
data mining for researchers and innovative businesses. The
recommendations and guidelines recognized and proposed to counterbalance
these barriers, so as to ensure broader TDM uptake and thus boost
Europe’s research and innovation capacities, will be the focus of the
Symposium.
Our sponsorsCloudera <https://www.cloudera.com/>,F&F
<http://ff-muenchen.de/>andum
<https://www.unbelievable-machine.com/>etc. will have their own, special
platform: half-day workshops to provide hands-on interaction with tools
or to learn approaches to developing concrete solutions. In addition,
there will be an exhibition of the sponsors' products and services
throughout the conference, with the opportunity for the participants to
seek contact and advice.
The iDSC 2017 is therefore a unique meeting place for researchers,
business managers, and data scientists to discover novel approaches and
to share solutions to the challenges of a data-driven world.

Betreff: [AISWorld] Second Call for Papers: HICSS-51 2018 Mini-track:
Theory and Information Systems
Datum: Tue, 9 May 2017 06:20:35 +0000
Von: Dirk Hovorka <dirk.hovorka(a)sydney.edu.au>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
CfP *Minitrack*: Theory and Information Systems
*Track*: Organizational Systems and Technology track
Once again the "Theory and Information Systems" mini-track invites submissions that investigate the implications of theory ontologies, theory integration, or meta-analytic approaches to building cumulative theory. We also welcome approaches to the contextualization of "local" theory. Research over the last decades has emphasized theory development in IS and other social and behavioral science disciplines. The resulting proliferation of theories and constructs has numerous redundancies, which can be revealed through review, meta-analysis and interrogation of the theory discourse. Synthesis, integration and ontologies would benefit the disciplines by identifying what we can now research given what we already know. Theory synthesis will inform social and behavioral sciences research with a better understanding of fundamental theories, help organize our theories to be accessible research and practice, and increase our understanding of the philosophical commitments represented in thei
r contextualization and use.
Toward these ends, topics of interest in this minitrack include:
1. Integration or aggregation of social and behavioral science theories;
2. The theoretical ties between different disciplines (e.g. healthcare and IS, and sustainability science and IS, energy informatics), and the trends in theories;
3. Approaches to theory meta-analysis
4. Research on ontologies, taxonomies, frameworks, and categorizations of constructs and variables used in system science theories;
5. The use of natural language processing, data mining, and predictive analytics to better understand and interrogate theories;
6. Discussion of the roles of theories used to explain, approaches used to predict (e.g. neural nets and big data), and of theories of understanding;
7. Exploration of the dependencies of constructs and variables;
8. Exploration of the boundaries of theory "domains."
This minitrack also has an associated ISWorld website devoted to theories used in IS research (http://istheory.byu.edu/wiki/Main_Page) - which won the 2005 AISWorldNet Challenge Award for the best website based on AISWorldNet user voting. We intend to uphold this high standard and advance the website further by increasing the synergy between mini-track outcomes and website content.

AIMS AND SCOPE
The development of models through which computers can simulate the
evolution of artificial and natural systems is fundamental for the
advancement of Science. In the last decades, the increasing power of
computers has allowed to considerably extend the application of computing
methodologies in research and industry, but also to the quantitative study
of complex phenomena. This has permitted a broad application of numerical
methods for differential equation systems (e.g., FEM, FDM, etc.) on one
hand, and the application of alternative computational paradigms, such as
Cellular Automata, Genetic Algorithms, Neural networks, Swarm Intelligence,
etc., on the other. These latter have demonstrated their effectiveness for
modelling purposes when traditional simulation methodologies have proven to
be impracticable.
Following the success of our past HPCMS workshops which were held in Turin,
Turku and Crete, we are glad to invite you to our fourth edition which will
take place in St. Petersburg (Russia).
An important mission of the HPCMS Workshop is to provide a platform for a
