About the Special Issue
This special issue focuses on the adoption and resistance of emerging
information technologies (e.g., IoT, artificial intelligence, augmented
reality, virtual reality, big data, cloud computing, and FinTech), which
bring disruptive changes to business activities and individual lives.
Specifically, this special issue addresses the following questions:
1. Do the existing theories of technology adoption and/or diffusion explain
the role of emerging disruptive technologies well? If not, how to extend
the existing theories or develop new theoretical perspectives to fill the
gap?
2. What additional perspectives should be considered besides the
traditional adoption theories?
3. What are the adoption and/or diffusion barriers of disruptive
information technologies?
4. What are the risks of the disruptive information technologies?
5. How do the risks of the disruptive information technologies affect their
adoption and/or diffusion processes?
6. Why are organizations and individuals reluctant to adopt and diffuse the
disruptive information technologies?
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* New theory and perspective for the adoption and diffusion of disruptive
information technologies
* State of the art and new business models using disruptive information
technologies
* Success and failure factors of augmented/virtual reality applications and
games
* Big Data-driven services
* Issues on emerging medical information technologies

Authors are instructed to follow the Guide for Authors
<http://emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/journals/author_guidelines.htm?i…>
and
submission guidelines for the journal at the journal’s website, and to
choose "Special Issue: Disruptive IT" as the paper type in the online
submission system, Scholar One <http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/imds>.
More about the Special Issue
With technology use permeating every part of our life, both personal and at
work, the issues related to its adoption have drawn concerns of all users.
Technology acceptance studies have provided valuable insight and been
consistently published in various outlets (Lee et al. 2013). The topic has
also garnered high citation as evidenced the previous papers. As new
technologies are being introduced, we expect that the adoption and
resistance issues will continue to attract user interest. Although existing
technology acceptance theories are old-fashioned, many researchers still
apply the theories to specific contexts (e.g., developing country,
education, and health care areas). However, these theories may have
limitations in explaining the adoption of emerging disruptive information
technologies (Sun, Y., & Jeyaraj, A. 2013). Thus, if we fill this research
gap, many researchers will have better opportunities to develop the related
topics based on studies included in this special issue.

*Workshop motivation*
The climate changes, the catastrophe in Fukushima, the recent biggest
blackout in history in India due to an overloaded electricity grid or
the dwindling oil reserves world-wide are some of the manifold different
reasons why countries massively increase their efforts in shaping their
future energy generation, distribution, transportation and consumption,
in short in future smart Sustainable Energy Systems, Smart
Infrastructures, and Smart Environments. They are expected to be the
enablers of a high penetration of renewable energy, facilitate the wide
adoption of electrical vehicles, increase the awareness and the
involvement of the end-user in the energy scene, and altogether
contribute to create a sustainable lifestyle for the eco-aware 21^st
century citizen. Although much is still in a state of flux it is
nevertheless commonly accepted that existing energy systems,
infrastructures, environments, and business opportunities cannot simply
be adapted or extended to address the requirements of the next
generation of energy supply and consumption. Instead, a fundamental
re-engineering is required. Thus, all these prospected transformations
also bring with them numerous challenges and opportunities.
Regardless of whether and how the energy supply will be designed and
operated in the near future it is obvious that the key enabler for a
successful transformation of the energy supply will be a meaningful and
purposeful used ICT infrastructure. New solutions will consolidate and
represent the combined knowledge and experience of different disciplines
as engineering, business management and economics and computer science
and, thus, contribute significantly to the stabilisation of the energy
supply and to the success of involved companies. The IT backbone for
such solutions will be distributed, collaborative, autonomous and
intelligent software packages for simulation, monitoring, control and
optimization as well as appropriate data and business models, reporting
systems and maybe also mobile solutions.
Besides the topic of future energy grids the recent past was also
dominated by the discussion about so called smart cities and smart
homes. A smart city uses information and communication technologies
(ICT) to enhance quality, performance and interactivity of urban
services. This especially means that the contact between citizens and
government is eased and improved substantially with the aim to equip
inhabitants with more power, responsibility and easing their life
substantially from bureaucratic and useless tasks. Another highly
relevant goal is to reduce costs and resource consumption. Smart cities
will connect, utilize and optimize a number of sectors including
transport and traffic management, energy consumption and management or
water and waste issues. However, they also need to rely on the next
lower level of abstraction, namely smart buildings and homes. This,
however, implies that smart grids, smart cities, smart buildings and
homes, and smart infrastructures need to be deeply integrated in order
to shape the smart overall energy environment of the future. And that
looks more like a revolution than an evolution.
Thus, revolutionary papers are highly welcome even if they are not too
elaborated or too mature. This workshop is not meant to rely on the
presentation of mature research results but wants to provide a lively
environment with a lot of even vague input for intensive and fruitful
discussions. For that, also shorter provocative statements and ideas are
very welcome.
*Workshop topics*
The SESSISE workshopaims at providing an interdisciplinary forum for
presenting and discussing recent advances and experiences in building
and using new IT-based solutions for Sustainable Energy Systems, Smart
Infrastructures, and Smart Environments. For this, the conference
provides a forum for different scientific disciplines. In particular, it
includes (but is not limited to) the following areas and topics of interest:
/Smart Grids, Smart Homes and Buildings, Smart Infrastructures/
•Smart Energy Systems
•Energy Storage
•Microgrids
•Decentralized Control Systems
•Stability in Energy Grids
•Distributed Optimization in Energy Networks
•Self-aware, Self-configuring or Self-healing Energy Systems
•Simulation Environments for Smart Grids
•Hybrid Energy Networks
•Assistance Systems for Smart Energy control
•Integrated Infrastructures
•Development of Standards for Smart Grids
•Industry, Municipality and University Cooperation
•Sustainable Cities
•Zero Energy Cities and Buildings
/Smart Data Handling /
•Alternative Data Storing and Proceeding Technologies
•Big Data and Smart Energy Environments
•Software Tools for Smart Energy Networks
•Data Security
•Data Structures and required Standards
•Mobile Solutions for Smart Energy Environments
•ICT Services in Smart Grids/Smart Cities/Smart Environments
/Smart Markets, Trading and Business models/
•Forecasts / Predictions
•Management of distributed Energy Generation and Storage
•Business Models for (hybrid) Energy Networks
•Products and User Interfaces
•Business Models and electronic marketplaces for Smart Grids
•Competition Analysis
•Process Management
•Electric Mobility
•Solar Home Storage Systems
•End Users and Demand Response
*Structure of SESSISE*
SESSISE will be a one or two day workshop and will include several
presentation sessions for the accepted paper as well as invited overview
papers on topics of overall interest in order to kick off intense and
lively discussions. It is intended to give much space for lively
discussions. The workshop is meant to end with a panel/discussion round
in which the relevant results of the workshop will be discussed.
*Review Process*
Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 Program Committee
members. Selection criteria will include (in all cases possible):
relevance, significance, impact, originality, quality of presentation,
practical applicability. It is not expected that the papers prohibit
mature research results. Good elaborated ideas, visions and directions
which may be starting point for more intensive discussions are very
welcome. The idea is less the presentation of narrow, however, mature
research but the presentation of broader visions, possible solution
spaces and research directions, open fields for research, emergent
trends, etc.
*Workshop proceedings*
It is intended to publish revised papers in post-proceedings of BIS 2017
workshops as a book by Springer Publishing Company in the Lecture Notes
in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series.
*Journal publication of excellent papers*
It is intended to invite authors of excellent papers to submit an
extended version of their paper to the IOS Multiagent and Grid Systems
journal (MAGS). This journal has a high reputation and is often
classified as a B-class journal. If enough high quality papers will be
submitted it is planned to publish them as a special issue, otherwise as
regular papers.
*Submission guidelines*
All papers need to be formatted according to the Springer formatting
instructions:
* http://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gui…
*/Regular papers/*: up to 12 pages
*/Short papers and Work-in-progress reports/*: up to6 pages
*/Demo papers/*: up to 4 pages
Papers must be written in English and need to be submitted in PDF format.
Submission system is available at EasyChair.
/Original/work approved for presentation at SESSISE 2017 will be
published in the BIS 2017 workshop post-conference proceedings, as a
volume in Springer's Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
New technologies are providing the needed infrastructure for increased
collaboration and co-creation in public spaces. It is no longer novel to
engage citizens in urban planning sessions using diverse shared spaces
and augmented reality applications, to have audiences create content in
museums, to see libraries offering maker spaces, to allow audiences to
co-create storylines in theaters. However, research on such public
co-design still needs to catch up with emerging practices and address,
at various levels of granularity, reflections on what type of activities
are proposed and for what purpose, how are the co-design explorations
carried out, where are they carried out and who to include in ways that
are relevant for both participants as well as researchers.
For this focus section, we are particularly interested in exploring
temporalities of engagement and their relation to outcomes, where
outcomes are seen as either co-created artifacts or a new knowledge
gained in relation to the time investment. Pop-up and Drop-in spaces are
becoming common and may happen in a variety of formats that engage
people over a short period. For example, Pop-up graphite art, cafés, or
parking lot gardens may engage for as little as a few minutes, usually
random by passers. Drop-in civic events, games, museum or theater
co-creative events also engage over a short time, but frequently,
already interested and motivated audiences. Intermediate and long-term
engagements, e.g., participatory design (PD), can also happen in diverse
formats and under different agreements with participants, with work
taking place in libraries, museums, parks and other places suitable for
longer-term engagements.
-----------------------------------------------------------
*Topics of Interest*
-----------------------------------------------------------
We are particularly focusing on methods and evaluation of civic and
cultural engagement activities. We welcome all papers that help identify
good research methods and methodologies, as well as best practices
regarding temporal and spatial configurations in co-creative projects
within public cultural and civic sphere.
Topics may include:
• Explorations of relation between the length of engagement and the
expected outcomes
• Public spaces and their relation to temporalities of engagement
• Understanding of ‘participatory culture’ when public spaces for
participation and engagement in cultural sphere varies in time
• Temporality and methods chosen for engagement
• Engagement with current “hot issues” and creation of a “critical mass”
necessary to set changes in motion

Betreff: [AISWorld] ECIS 2017 - Similarity Detection in Digital Trace
Data Workshop - June 6th, 2017 - Guimarães, Portugal
Datum: Thu, 20 Apr 2017 19:00:02 +0000
Von: Mahmood Shafeie Zargar <mahmood.shafeiezargar(a)mail.mcgill.ca>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
The increasing availability of digital trace data and recent advances on both methods and tools to analyze data in unprecedented scale open up new venues for information systems research. These trends permit the implementation of novel analysis methods and create new opportunities for theorization.
Yet, the sheer volume of data means that the traditional research methods, whether qualitative or quantitative, may not be able to fully benefit from the depth and the breadth of the data available. That is unless the data is made accessible through intermediary transformation steps.
Traditionally this accessibility has been achieved by limiting the scale of the data through sampling strategies.
But advances in computational methods have made other strategies possible that may provide additional or holistic insights. Among others, these methods include dimensionality reduction methods used to “summarize” the data by focusing on its salient features and the methods capable of detecting patterns and similarities at a large scale. The combination of these computationally-powered tools with traditional research methods create new possibilities for both inductive and deductive research.
This workshop focuses on similarity detection methods. An interactive workshop will be held where the participants will have the chance to use similarity detection methods on pre-collected data. The workshop will include presentations and interactive sessions focusing on the following methods:
* Locality-sensitive hashing for text similarity detection.
* Spherical harmonic representation of 3D shapes for product design comparison.
* Semantic transformations with ontology extraction using Wikipedia.
