Mini-track: Social and Ethical Issues in Big Data
(https://amcis2017.aisnet.org/submissions/track-descriptions/#toggle-id-4 )
Mini-track Description
Proliferation of social media, online networks and web technologies are enabling individuals and companies to personally engage with digital technologies at an unprecedented scale. An individual's digital footprint is further informed by their communication preferences, purchase behavior, financial transactions, geospatial location tracking, medical records, and even personal characteristics such as heredity. These vast amounts of data, also referred to as "big data", include structured and unstructured data that can be combined to profile individuals, groups and various collectives in society.
These data can be used by the governments, business organizations, research agencies, marketing companies, and agencies from various fields to peer into the human behavior and characteristics at a granular level that had never been possible before. The recent scandal involving Yahoo secretly scanning customer emails for US intelligence is one such example. Target retail store sending prenatal product promotion material to a teenager whose family was unaware of the pregnancy is another. Whether it is Volkswagen, Whole Foods, Ashley Madison social media or General Motors, the ethics and societal impacts of big data and analytics has grabbed center stage as a major concern for the public and organizations adopting a data driven decision making culture (Fang 2015). It is now recognized that the implications of big data reach beyond organizational benefits into the societal and ethical realm. According to Gartner it will grow in significance as a key issue in the field as it predicts that
the improper use of big data analytics will cause half of all business ethics violations by 2018 (Marr 2016).
Big data can be used to predict spread of diseases, potential genetic anomalies, and provide other useful insights; however, these benefits come at a price. Society is increasingly questioning the ethical risks associated with unfettered Big Data technologies. For example, use of these data raises privacy risks such as mass surveillance, profiling, selection bias, secondary use of Information, and collection of irrelevant information without users' volition. This mini-track focuses on research that addresses social and ethical issues associated with Big Data technologies and their uses.

PROFES 2017 has explicitly committed itself as the first conference in our field to take the first step in fostering open science in our community to increase the accessibility, reproducibility, and replicability of our research outcomes. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Open Access Support: Authors of accepted papers will be supported in self-archiving their pre- and post-prints in open, preserved repositories to which we will link from the published conference program. Please note that the choice to use open access or not will not affect the review process for the submissions (and can also be made after the acceptance notification).
- Open Data Policy: Papers which rely on empirical data should - within the limits of existing non-disclosure agreements - disclose the _anonymised and curated_ data to increase reproducibility and replicability. The latest point in time for the data disclosure is the deadline for the camera ready deadline (after acceptance notification). Authors who cannot disclose industrial or otherwise non-public data should provide an explicit statement in the paper.
The steering principle is that research output should be accessible to the public, and that empirical studies should be reproducible. Please note that we are still experimenting with open science principles and strongly rely on your support and also feedback. To actively support authors in the open science endeavours, we have assigned specific open science co-chairs. Further details are provided and will be continuously updated on our website: https://profes2017.q-e.at/open-science-practices/

Call for Contributions
8th International Workshop on
Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISA’17)
co-located with the 29th International Conference on Advanced
Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE)
June 12-13, 2017 - Essen, Germany
https://hu.berlin/emisa17
///////////////////////////////////////////////////
The strategic importance of enterprise modelling has been recognized by
an increasing number of companies and public agencies. Enterprise
modelling delivers the ‘blueprints’ for co-designing and aligning
business and enterprise information systems such that they complement
each other in an optimal way. As example consider the support of
business processes by process-aware information systems. Achieving such
interplay requires a multi-perspective approach taking organizational,
economic, and technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud,
social and big data, additional challenges for enterprise modelling and
the design of information systems architectures are introduced, e.g., in
respect to the design of data-driven processes or processes enabling
cross-enterprise collaboration. To deal with these challenges, a close
cooperation of researchers from different disciplines such as
information systems, business informatics, and computer science will be
required.
EMISA 2017 is the eighth international workshop in a series that
provides a key forum for researchers and practitioners in the fields of
enterprise modelling and the design of information system (IS)
architectures. The workshop series emphasizes a holistic view on these
fields, fostering integrated approaches that address and relate business
processes, business people and information technology. The workshop is
open for a broad range of subjects. Possible topics include, but are not
limited to:
* Enterprise modelling: languages, methods, tools
* Patterns for enterprise modelling
* Patterns for information systems architectures
* Model life cycle management
* Model evolution
* Model configuration and model variants
* Model quality: metrics, case studies, and experiments
* Process modelling and process-aware information systems
* Collaborative enterprise modelling
* Model-driven architectures
* Model-driven IS development
* Component- and service-oriented software architectures
* Service engineering and evolution
* Service composition, orchestration and choreography
* Complex event processing and event-driven architectures
* Human aspects in enterprise modelling
* Modelling social information and innovation networks
* Information systems in the cloud
* Mobile enterprise services

Call for Contributions
8th International Workshop on
Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISA’17)
co-located with the 29th International Conference on Advanced
Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE)
June 12-13, 2017 - Essen, Germany
https://hu.berlin/emisa17
///////////////////////////////////////////////////
* Patterns for enterprise modelling
* Patterns for information systems architectures
* Model life cycle management
* Model evolution
* Model configuration and model variants
* Model quality: metrics, case studies, and experiments
* Process modelling and process-aware information systems
* Collaborative enterprise modelling
* Model-driven architectures
* Model-driven IS development
* Component- and service-oriented software architectures
* Service engineering and evolution
* Service composition, orchestration and choreography
* Complex event processing and event-driven architectures
* Human aspects in enterprise modelling
* Modelling social information and innovation networks
* Information systems in the cloud
* Mobile enterprise services

Betreff: [AISWorld] SIGSI Minitrack - Online Networks and Community
Building
Datum: Mon, 6 Feb 2017 17:19:55 +0000
Von: Mann, Arti <Mann(a)UHCL.edu>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Dear Colleagues,
Consider submitting to the SIGSI Minitrack - Online Networks and Community Building (AMCIS 2017, Boston; August 20-12, 2017)
Online networks of choice, which are groups that require voluntary identification and participation, have become important locations of identity, communication, information exchange and community building. Particularly useful among communities that are geographically remote, online networks manage to foster a shared identity through cultural exchange, sharing of resources and shared values. Typical patterns of social interaction, ethical and moral priorities in such exchange of ideas, the influence of diversity (or lack of diversity) among group members all may influence the way in which these networks succeed in creating community and building a feeling of shared identity. Online network communities have become a major part of social identity for individuals engaged in these communities. As these communities thrive and grow, patterns of social interaction, shared values and beliefs, and role of shared identity have become prominent. More research is needed to inform us about the un
derlying patterns, challenges and opportunities that exist within these diverse communities.
The aim of this mini-track is to promote theoretical and empirical research addressing the role of online networks in community building, regardless of the purpose of the network. We seek innovative contributions from scholars who engage in analysis of participation in online groups such as self-help groups, hobby groups, groups of demographic unity etc.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: March 1, 2017
