CFP: ECIR Workshop on Context-aware Retrieval and Recommendation
5th Workshop on Context-awareness in Retrieval and Recommendation (CaRR
2015) in conjunction with the 37th European Conference on Information
Retrieval (ECIR 2015).
Location: Vienna, Austria
Date: March 29, 2015
Website: http://carr-workshop.org
General Information
Following the successful 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Workshops on
Context-awareness in Retrieval and Recommendation we are delighted to
invite you to the fifth installment which will be held in conjunction
with the 37th European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR 2015).
The context of a piece of information is now often available, with many
systems capturing things like peopleâs interaction patterns with
information, the devices people use, the annotations they make, and
their user profiles. Context-aware retrieval systems use context to
enhance their performance. The challenge in doing so lies not only in
using context to retrieve the most relevant content, but also in
understanding and
identifying important context ad hoc. Further, once information is
retrieved, it must be presented to the user in a context-aware manner,
personalizing and adapting the content to the userâs current situation
(device, location, social surrounding) and interests.
Call for Papers
In the scope of this workshop, context can refer to any factor
surrounding the user, information object, or system, including, for
example, the location of the information interaction, the weather at the
time of the interaction, or the userâs mood. The need for
personalizing and adapting the information exchange experience is
accentuated when we consider device- and interaction-based context. The
aim of the CaRR Workshop is to invite the community to a discussion in
which we will try to find new creative ways to support
context-awareness. Furthermore, CaRR aims at improving the exchange of
ideas between different communities involved in research concerning,
among other topics, web mining, machine learning, information retrieval,
data mining, and hci. The workshop is especially intended for
researchers working on multidisciplinary projects who want to discuss
problems and synergies.
The aim of the CaRR Workshop is to invite the community to a discussion
in which we will try to find new creative ways to handle
context-awareness. Furthermore, CaRR aims at improving the exchange of

among other web mining, machine learning, information retrieval, data
mining, hci, etc. The workshop is especially intended for researchers
working on multidisciplinary tasks who want to discuss problems and
synergies.
The participants are encouraged to address the following questions:
Which benefits come from context-aware systems?
How can we best capture context for its use in IR and information
filtering?
In what ways can context improve the search/retrieval experience?
How can we combine general- and user-centric context-aware
technologies?
How should context affect the way information is presented?
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following
aspects:
Context-aware data mining and information retrieval
Context-aware profiling, clustering and collaborative filtering
Use of context-aware technologies in IR
  Context-aware recommendations for mobile users
  Context-awareness in portable devices

CALL FOR PAPERS AMCIS'2015
21st Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS)
Mini-Track "Workarounds: the dark or the bright side of IT-enabled agility?"
August 13-15, 2015, Puerto Rico (_http://amcis2015.aisnet.org_
<http://amcis2015.aisnet.org/>)
Deadline for paper submissions: February 25, 2015
****************************************************************************
TRACK DESCRIPTION
IT-enabled agility enables organizations to quickly mitigate threats to
existing competitive advantages and to seize opportunities for future
competitive advantages. IT-enabled agility grounds in a flexible use of
IT. Workarounds have been recognized as an important unit of analysis to
study the effect and boundaries of IT-enabled agility. Workarounds are
an interdisciplinary phenomenon and are being discussed in a variety of
contexts such as management control systems, compliance, governance, and
security. However, the relationship of workarounds and performance
implications (e.g., innovation, flexibility, loss of control, facades of
compliance) is still unclear. Important questions remains unanswered:
How do managers anticipate the performance implications of workarounds?
How do design variants of information systems prohibit or create
opportunities for workarounds? How can organizations ensure flexibility
while maintaining control? What are the short-term and long-term
implications of workarounds?
The purpose of the mini-track is to provide an interdisciplinary forum
for researchers from many contexts to share and discuss insights on
workarounds. The mini-track seeks rigorous conceptual, empirical as well
as design-oriented research and seeks both emergent research paper
(research-in-progress) as well as full papers.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The objective of the workshop is to establish a state-of-the-art of the
IS discipline’s understanding of workarounds. Topics for this mini-track
include but are not limited to the following:
• antecedents and consequences of workarounds
• strategies for handling workarounds
• deviations in the use of IT (e.g., shadow IT, non-compliance,
security violations, rule-breaking, bootlegging, fraud, resistance, BYOD)
• workaround motives
• temporality and institutionalization of workarounds
• workarounds as source of innovation
• perception of workarounds (employee and management)
• design of workaround-aware information systems
• case studies on workarounds

*Call for Papers: Big Data Analytics *
/Special issue of the Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic
Commerce Research (Scopus impact: 1.02; SciELO-indexed)/
Guest Editors: Jouni Markkula, Marikka Heikkilä, Christopher Westland,
Zhangxi Lin, Jukka Heikkilä
The /Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research/is
planning a special issue on Big Data Analytics.
Big Data Analytics is a recent and rapidly evolving field in technology
driven business world, and private and public organizations are eagerly
waiting to collect the promised results. Empowered by advancement of
information and communication technology, the volume and complexity of
data are growing exponentially. Big Data is formed of large, diverse,
complex, longitudinal, and distributed data sets generated from various
instruments, sensors, Internet transactions, email, video, click
streams, and other sources. It is commonly characterized in three or
more Vs: volume, velocity, variety, and additionally value, veracity
etc. Big Data Analytics is characterized by the requirement of advanced
data storage, management, analysis, and visualization technologies,
which traditional business analytics is not able to offer. These
technologies include, among others: interfusion of various data sources,
real-time analysis, online analytical processing, business performance
management, data mining, machine learning, cloud computing, distributed
processing, parallel algorithms, and parallel DBMS.
Big Data Analytics generates new opportunities for the benefit of our
society, but it also introduces challenges. Applications of Big Data
Analytics are expected to change the world, how people and organizations
are doing things in the future, as it provides increasing awareness and
deeper insight on various real world and virtual phenomena. It is to
change business models, management and decision making processes in
companies and public organizations, and to affect usage of resources in
creating products and services.
Electronic commerce is one of the most promising and high impact
application areas of Big Data Analytics2. It has already transformed
markets when adopted by many leading electronic commerce vendors. Wide
adoption of social media and crowdsourcing applications in various forms
still offer new possibilities for collecting and analysing Big Data for
supporting business, as well as unexplored opportunities for developing
Big Data Analytics based information services for customers. Even if Big
Data Analytics research is at its currents stage significantly
technology driven, focusing on such topics as data mining and cloud
computing technologies2, there is and evident need for also
understanding it better from the electronic commerce point of view.
Subject Coverage
The objective of this Special Issue is to present the current state of
research and practical experiences on Big Data Analytics from the
viewpoint of electronic commerce research. The disciplines can cover any
area of electronic commerce, including computer science, information
technology, information systems, information management,
telecommunications, business administration, law, social sciences,
financial services, and other related fields. Particularly we like to
see interdisciplinary papers presenting innovative applications and uses
of Big Data Analytics in electronic commerce that are able to connect
theory with practice. We are looking for experiences of successful Big
Data Analytics applications as well as critical views and challenges. We
encourage submitting papers that present genuine, rigorous research on
electronic commerce in transit, which shows how Big Data Analytics is
related with business practices, social, cultural and legal
environments, personal privacy and security concerns, information
systems, and emerging smart environments and device technologies.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. New opportunities in business environment
* Changes of eCommerce in business and public sector services
attributed to Big Data Analytics
* Big Data Analytics based services innovation
* Business models built on Big Data Analytics

11th Intl. Conf. on Open Source Systems (OSS2015)
co-located with the 2015 International Conference on Software
Engineering (ICSE2015)
Florence, Italy – 16-17 May 2015
http://www.oss2015.org

+++++++++ Extended Paper Submission: January 17, 2015 ++++++++++
*** Theme: Open Frameworks: from Service to Cloud ***
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) has had a disruptive effect on the
commercial software industry and the ways that organizations and
individuals create, distribute, acquire and use software and
software-based services. In addition to the many standalone FOSS
projects, FOSS is at the heart of modern network-based computing
infrastructures and can be found in the vast majority of applications
that run in these environments.
Many organizations that have been known for developing proprietary
software are now actively involved with FOSS. FOSS adoption continues to
grow among businesses, governments, and other organizations. FOSS
remains important for educators and researchers, as well as an important
aspect of e-government and information society initiatives, providing
access to high-quality software and the code used to create it.
Also, FOSS has taken the lead in a number of crucial ICT domains, like
Cloud Computing, where open source cloud stacks are widely adopted, and
Big Data, where a wealth of FOSS solutions is now being built around Hadoop.
The 11th International Conference on Open Source Systems (OSS 2015) will
celebrate a decade of advances in the use of free and open source
software by emphasizing areas and topics that will drive future use over
the next decade. This will be achieved through a combination of
high-quality research papers, tutorials, workshops, demonstrations, and
invited talks. OSS2015 will be co-located with the 2015 International
Conference on Software Engineering as a way to cross-fertilize ideas.
The theme for the 2015 edition will be "Open frameworks: from service to
cloud", putting forward the idea on how open source framework can
develop the transition from traditional IT services to cloud-based
architectures.
A central goal of OSS 2015 is to provide an international forum where a
diverse community of professionals from academia, industry, the public
sector, and diverse FOSS initiatives can come together to share research
findings and practical experiences. The conference also aims to serve as
a meeting place where people can identify new research ideas and
techniques for putting FOSS into widespread use.
OSS 2015 will include research papers, industry papers, formal tool
demonstrations, lightning talks, new ideas, experience reports, and
posters. OSS 2015 also invites proposals for tutorials and workshops,
submissions to the doctoral symposium, and submissions of panel proposals.
Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings, which
are published by Springer.
