Santiago, Chile, September 1-4, 2014 http://ht.acm.org/ht2014/ February 21, 2014: Workshop proposals due ========================================================================= The ACM Hypertext conference focuses on all aspects of modern hypertext research including social media, semantic web, dynamic and computed hypertext and hypermedia as well as narrative systems and applications. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the 25th ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media conference. Hypertext 2014 workshops will provide participants with opportunities to discuss and explore emerging areas of Hypertext and Social Media with fellow students, researchers, and practitioners from Industry and Academia. The goals of theworkshops are to provide a a more informal setting for exchanging opinions, to share experiences, presenting ideas, foster research community and identify open problems and/or explore directions for future research. As such, they also offer a good opportunity for researchers to present their work and to obtain feedback from an interested community in an interactive atmosphere. Proposals are especially encouraged on emerging topics, somehow related to the main conference tracks (links and connection between people, open data and the semantic of things, user experience and adaptive linking), but are not limited to other (novel) topics which might be of interest for the hypertext community. Acceptance ofworkshop proposals will be based on the experience and background of the organizers in the topic, and on the relevance of the subject matter with regard to the topics addressed in the main conference. We welcome proposals for different types of workshops, from working groups on a specific topic to more traditional conference-like workshops. However, we prefer interactive workshops that guarantee richer active interactions among participants and provide significant room for controversial and stimulating discussions. We preferentially would rather proposals for half-day workshops. The need for a full-day workshop should be motivated by some particular reason. Potential proposers are invited to discuss their ideas with the workshop chair before working out a detailed proposal. ===========================PROPOSAL FORMAT ============================= The workshop proposals – not longer than 5 pages - have to be sent by email to theworkshop chairs, and must contain the following information: - Title of the workshop and acronym - Workshop organisers (affiliation, contact details, homepage, and prior experiences with workshop organization. - Keywords (describing the main themes of the workshop) (from 3 to 5) - Abstract (up to 70 words) - Description of the workshop (topics and goals of the workshop) (up to 500 words) - Motivation (why the topic is of interest for the conference audience) - Workshop format (paper presentations, invited talks, panels, demo, discussion, etc) - Submissions format (position papers, research papers, demo, poster, presentations..) and, for each type of submission, specify the features (length of the papers, template, etc) - Intended audience and expected attendance (with historical data of past versions of the workshop, if available) - Initial list of (potential) members of the program committee - Requested duration (half day or full day- in this case, motivation for the need of a full day) - Previous editions of the workshop series (if applicable) (URLs, conference it was co-located with, number of registrants, number of submissions, number of accepted papers, and any other relevant information) The Workshop Proceedings will be published in the ACM Hypertext Extended Proceedings. If the organizers have addition plans for dissemination (for example, a special issue of a journal) this needs to specified in the proposal. =============== ORGANIZATION OF WORKSHOP =============== After the acceptance of a workshop proposal, the organizer(s) should: - Create and distribute a Call for Papers and a Call for Participation; - Create a Web page for the workshop, with the call for papers and the information about the workshop organization and timeline. Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2014) Most academic disciplines emphasize the importance of their general theories. Examples of general theories include the Big Bang theory, Maxwell’s equations, the theory of the cell, the theory of evolution, and the theory of demand and supply. Among the general theories are also found theories with names such as the general theory of crime and the theory of marriage, both well-established within their respective fields. Few general theories of software engineering have, however, been proposed, and none have achieved significant recognition. The main consequence of a lack of theory is a craft, limited to problem solving by trial-and-error and rules-of-thumb. Its knowledge base can only be used for rudimentary predictions. This, in turn, means that innovations only can be tested in vivo, which may be both expensive and painful. The long list of well-known software failures is a testament to the tradition of trial-and-error. Theory - a system of rules that mimics the real worl! d cheaply and without pain - addresses this problem. A general theory of software engineering would ideally advise against costly error before trials are initiated. This workshop, organized by the SEMAT initiative, aims to provide a forum for discussing the concept of general theories of software engineering. The topics considered include proposed general theories as well as papers on the benefits, the desired qualities, the core components and the form of such theories. The workshop follows GTSE 2012, held in November 2012 in Stockholm, Sweden, and GTSE 2013, held in May 2013 in conjunction with the ICSE 2013 in San Francisco. To allow submissions of both developed research and of early ideas, GTSE solicits two categories of papers: 12-page research papers and 4-page position papers. All papers will be published in the ACM and IEEE Digital Libraries. The papers must follow ICSE formatting guidelines:http://2013.icse-conferences.org/content/submission-guidelines, and they should be submitted to the workshop's EasyChair site:https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=gtse2014. Students will receive support and inspiration from their peers, and they will enjoy the opportunity to discuss their research and career objectives with senior members of the community from outside their institution. Students will present and discuss their research directions in the context of an established international conference outside of their usual university environment. The DC sessions are scheduled in parallel with workshop sessions affiliated with the ADBIS conference on the 7th of September. Each participant will have an opportunity to present her/his research, followed by discussion with and comments by senior researchers. In addition, a poster session will be held during the main conference. Each participant of the Doctoral Consortium is supposed to present her/his research during the poster session, thus increasing the exposure of the research and engaging in discussions with senior members of the research community. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Eligibility -------------------------------------------------------------------- We seek Ph.D. student participants who have either determined the direction of their thesis research (probably with some preliminary results already published), but who still have substantial work to complete, or Ph.D. student participants who are in the early stages of their dissertation year. Please note that it is not required to have a paper accepted for the main conference in order to participate in the Doctoral Consortium. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Submissions -------------------------------------------------------------------- To submit your application to the Doctoral Consortium please prepare the following documents: - Research statement: summarize the problem, proposed plan, and progress to date. In order to prepare for expected interferences and to response to unexpected, inevitable interferences in real-time, current initiatives in computer science aim to analyze huge amount of data from public and private domains and to share derived information with adaptive IT systems, e.g. social networks. Realizing adequate IT services implies availability of sufficient authentic, partly personal data from different origins, their aggregation, and secondary use. These services are "data-centric" by definition. One main challenge to be solved for achieving such reliable data-centric services within acceptable risks is cross-domain processing of (personal) data in compliance to law, business rules, and social norms. Whereas many security solutions are well studied for models and their implementation for separated security domains, this is not the case for data-centric services and adaptive IT systems. The aim of the RISI 2014 workshop is to identify research problems and to discuss risk scenarios with data-centric services regarding their support for improving "Resilience in Social Infrastructures" as well as the necessity to take non-technical aspects into consideration. We encourage academic researchers and industry experts to present and discuss novel ideas and ongoing work. Contributions addressing promising approaches to provide and manage resilient infrastructures with data-centric services are invited as research in progress and best practices. Papers may be rejected without being sent to the reviewers if they are too long or if it is judged that they do not lie sufficiently within the scope of the conference. The papers will be scheduled for presentation either orally or by poster, depending on their attributes, author preferences and referee recommendations. Please note that poster presentations are regarded as being of equal importance to oral presentations. Submissions must be formatted according to the instructions which can be found on the Springer website (http://www.springer.com/series/11156) under "Instructions for Authors". Papers must be submitted in PDF format for review purposes, but authors are required to upload editable word-processor files (LaTeX or MS Word) at the end of the review process. The required paper length is 10 pages in publisher format. Papers longer than this may be subject to an additional charge. Papers much longer or shorter than the required length may be rejected, at the decision of the organisers. Papers to be considered for the conference must be submitted in PDF form through the PROSE online submission and review system (http://amsta-14.kesinternational.org/prose.php)
