SoHuman 2013 – 2nd International Workshop on Social Media for
Crowdsourcing
and Human Computation, May 1, 2013, Paris,
Collocated with ACM Web Science 2013 & ACM HyperText'13 & ACM ECRC '13
http://eipcm.org/sohuman2013
********************************** CALL FOR PAPERS
********************************
GOALS OF THE WORKSHOP
This workshop invites researchers and practitioners from different
disciplines to
explore the challenges and opportunities of applying social media to
designing
novel applications of collective intelligence, with a special focus on
crowdsourcing
and human computation.
We are particularly interested in contributions that consider
crowdsourcing and
human computation in the broader context: as specific instantiations
of collective
intelligence and social computing on the web. How can the experience
gained from
the design of crowdsourcing applications inform the development of new
approaches
to collective intelligence? And vice versa: what lessons from the
broader domain
of collective intelligence can inform the design of new kinds of
systems for
crowdsourcing and human computation?
Both crowdsourcing and human computation consider humans as
distributed task-solvers,
leveraging human reasoning to solve complex tasks that are easy for
individuals but
difficult for purely computational approaches (human computation) or
for traditional
organizational work arrangements (crowdsourcing). Though rarely
explicitly addressed
as such, social media often provide the enabling methods and
technologies for the
realization of such models. While centralized platforms are at the
core of “traditional”
approaches to both crowdsourcing (e.g. mTurk) and collective
intelligence (e.g. Wikipedia),
attention is increasingly turning to harnessing existing social
platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter)
that already gather huge numbers of users into webs of social
relationships.
Such Social Clouds pose both chances and challenges for new kinds of
approaches to
crowdsourcing and human computation in particular and to collective
intelligence in
general. On one hand, the intricate social relationships allow the
development of new
kinds of task routing mechanisms (e.g. identifying the best or most
trusted participants
for a specific task). Incentive structures are intrinsically social
and tend to reflect
community-like phenomena (e.g. the reputation economy), thus differing
strongly from
single-user approaches in classical crowdsourcing. This is already
leading to early
experiments such as expert-based crowdsourcing or solutions for task-
injection across
distributed social platforms. On the other hand, the design of such
socially distributed
computing structures relates the fields of crowdsourcing and human
computation to the
lessons from a broader class of collective intelligence platforms and
applications.
The need to interrelate these fields is reflected in questions such as:
• How can we design effective incentive systems for large-scale
participation of
human users in structured collective intelligence systems?
• How do we design tasks at different levels of complexity that can be
solved reliably
through a composition of individual contributions?
• How can we use intricate webs of social relationships of existing
social platforms
for new models of coordination in distributed task-solving?
• How can distributed social media enable the design of new classes of
crowdsourcing
applications (e.g. using social network analysis for new ways of task-
routing)?
• How can the comparison of lessons from distributed problem-solving
in human
computation and community-based approaches lead to novel classes of
collective
intelligence applications?
We are especially interested in applications and investigations in a
range of domains
such as collective action and social deliberation, multimedia search
and exploration,
enterprise and medical applications, cultural heritage, social data
analysis or citizen
science.
TOPICS (include but are not limited to):

Call for Papers - Special Session on the Web of Data (DATAWEB)
Production and deployment of Open, Linked and Big Data
http://dataweb.medialab.ntua.gr/
To be held in conjunction with the 17th Panhellenic Conference on Informatics (PCI 2013), September 19-21, 2013, Thessaloniki, Greece,
http://pci2013.epy-mathra.gr/
Proceedings to be published by ACM
Organizers:
Ioannis Anagnostopoulos, University of Central Greece, Greece
Yannis Charalabidis, University of the Aegean, Greece
Agisilaos Papantoniou, National Technical University of Athens, Greece
Michalis Vafopoulos, National Technical University of Athens, Greece
Special Session description:
The evolution of technologies now effectively supports the creation and existence of the Web of Data. However, the production and mass consumption of data have been a matter of debate over methodologies that should be employed in the technological and business domain. Data over the Web can be seen under three major perspectives. One that deals with their “openness”, one that addresses their interconnection and one that discusses new ways of managing their performance.
This special session aims to stimulate a multi-origin discussion about data production and deployment within the Web corpus. It is focused on new models, languages and applications that exploit the Web of data in order to act as a global repository of interlinked resources.
We seek original articles balanced between theoretical and practical approaches in research aspects and/or applications that utilize either Open, Linked and Big Data. We further encourage the submission of contributions that discuss and address exploitation issues of data in different disciplines. Submitted papers may deal with methods, models, case studies, practical experiences and technologies, but also with work in progress solutions. The thematic categories are divided in three parts:
1. Open Data
Definition@wikipedia: “Open data is the idea that certain data should be freely available to everyone to use and republish as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control. The goals of the open data movement are similar to those of other "Open" movements such as open source, open content, and open access.”
Topics of interest cover the following areas (but are not limited to):
● Business models, marketplaces and crowdsourcing platforms for Open Data
● Policies, strategies for the development of data ecosystems
● Country/nationwide challenges and opportunities
● Privacy and provenance issues
● Reliability and trustworthiness of Open Data
● Case studies for domain/sector-specific open data strategies (smart cities, environmental and geospatial research, social media)
● Methodologies for open data production, cleansing and utilization
● Heterogeneity, quality assurance, vocabulary repair and maintenance
● Benchmarks and metrics in Open Data usage
● Open Data usability, user interaction and case studies with lessons learned
2. Linked Data
>From the moment they were officially introduced in 2008, Linked Open Data (LOD) and their applications are flourishing. The Open Data movement, along with the maturity of Web 3.0 technologies has led various Organizations to publish their data, making them accessible worldwide. One of the fundamental issues that follows the initial success of these LOD initiatives is a way to standardize the effort according to effective functional and technical specifications.
Topics of interest cover the following areas (but are not limited to):
● Methodologies for Linked Data production and deployment
● Assessing trustworthiness in Linked Data
● Linked Data publication and visualization
● AI technologies for Linked Data
● Engineering Linked Data stems
● Searching and ranking methodologies and algorithms
● Linked Data real world applications and uses (e-Government, health, energy, finance)
● Rule interchange formats
● Reasoning
● Query languages
● Data cleansing techniques
● Social media interactivity
● Adaptive Linked Data systems
● Services development and orchestration
● Provenance and right management
● Dataset description, discovery and consolidation
● Architectural paradigms
● Mobile Linked Data
● Business models
3. Big Data
In this thematic category we aim to investigate how the well-defined concepts of data utilization can be applied in order to develop new techniques and methods for the sustainable and socially balanced exploitation of huge data pools.
Topics of interest cover the following areas (but are not limited to):
● Scalable, distributed and parallel algorithms for solving Big Data
● Harvesting Linked Data from large heterogeneous sources
● Connecting massive unstructured data with well-defined linked formats
● Semantic models and environments to support Big Data

International Conference on Business Process Modeling, Development, and
Support (BPMDS'2013)
the 14th edition of the BPMDS series
held in conjunction with CAiSE'13
17-18 June 2013, Valencia, Spain
Submission deadline: February 28, 2013
The Call for Papers can be downloaded from the BPMDS Web site
http://www.bpmds.org
SPONSORS:
--------
- Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE). BPMDS
Working Conference is officially linked on an ongoing basis to the CAiSE
conference series (http://www.pros.upv.es/index.php/en/home-caise2013).
- International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.1
(IFIP WG 8.1) (https://research.idi.ntnu.no/ifip-wg81/). Sponsor since
2009.
ABOUT THE BPMDS CONFERENCE:
--------------------------
The topics addressed by the BPMDS series are focused on business
processes and their IT support. This is one of the keystones of
information systems theory, and a topic that any major conference in the
area of information systems needs to address, independently of the
current fashion. The continued interest in this topic on behalf of the
IS community is reflected by the success of the past BPMDS events, and
their promotion from a workshop to a working conference.
The BPMDS series has produced thirteen events from 1998 to 2012. From
2011, BPMDS has become a two-day working conference attached to CAiSE
(Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering). The basic
principles of the BPMDS series:
1. BPMDS serves as a meeting place for researchers and practitioners in
the areas of business development, and business applications (software)
development
2. The aim of the event is mainly discussions, rather than presentations.
3. Each event has a theme that is mandatory for idea papers.
4. Each event's results are, usually, published in a special issue of an
international journal.
The goals, format, and history of BPMDS can be found on the web site:
http://www.bpmds.org/history
BACKGROUND AND AIMS:
-------------------
BPMDS solicits papers related to Business Process Modeling, Development
and Support (BPMDS) in general, using quality as a main selection
criterion. As a working conference, we would like to attract papers
describing mature research, but we still give place to industrial
reports and visionary idea papers. To encourage new and emerging
challenges and research directions in the area of business process
modeling, development and support, we have a unique focus theme every year.
Papers submitted as idea papers will be required to be of relevance to
the focus theme, thus providing a mass of new ideas around a relatively
narrow but emerging research area.
Full research papers and experience reports are not required to be
directly connected to this theme (they still need to be explicitly
relevant to BPMDS though).
The focus theme for BPMDS'13 idea papers is "Coping with Complexity in
Business Processes".
Today, business processes have to cope with increasing complexity in
several areas. First, business processes are increasingly becoming cross
and inter organizational. External processes and services have to be
integrated into processes. Second, data is becoming more and more
important for business processes. Recent advances such as data science
and big data provide huge amounts of information to be processed in
business processes. Third, business processes are executed in complex
environments, which may consist of cloud-services and resources and may
introduce flexibility requirements.
We invite the visionaries (from research and industry) to exploit this
theme and submit idea papers that deal with specific complexity aspects
of business processes, such as data orientation as in MDM (master data
management) and relation to big data, need for context-awareness and
flexibility, and integration of business processes with social media.
We also welcome research papers that include ideas on how theoretical
results discussed can be used in practice, as well as experience reports
on using theories in practice.
TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION:
----------------------
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
*Business Process Modeling*
- Business process modeling languages, notations and methods
- Multi-perspectives on business process modeling,
- Coherence among multi-perspective representations
- Theoretical foundations for analyzing, modeling business processes
- Verification and validation of business process models
- Variability and adaptability of business process models
- Dynamic configuration; modeling by reuse
- Granularity, development of reusable and context-aware components;
modeling for reuse
- Domain specific reference models
- Business process modeling enhanced by social software and social networks
*Business Process Support*
- Business process change management and governance issues
- Theoretical foundations for simulating or executing business processes
- Business process support architectures and platforms
- Business process support based on a service-oriented architecture
- Business process support combined with social software and social networks
- Business processes using cloud-services
- Mobile technologies and context aware business processes
*Requirements on Business Processes*
- Compliance, reliability, security, performance
- Flexibility, variability, adaptability
- Metrics, maturity and continuous improvement
- Resource management in business processes
- User-oriented aspects
- Strategy, business processes, people and IT: alignment, fit and coherence
- Cross-organizational business processes
- Data-intensive business processes
- BPMDS in the cloud
SUBMISSIONS:
-----------
Prospective conference participants are invited to submit a paper that
concerns business process modeling and development, and/or business
process support (development of software dedicated to business
processes). We solicit the papers (both research papers and experience
reports) that contain results worth of discussion. For full research
papers, it means that reported research should be in an advance stage
and a paper includes results and at least partial evaluation.
Thus three kinds of submissions are possible:
(1) Full research papers.
(2) Experience reports, which should follow guidelines in
http://www.bpmds.org/guidelines.
(3) Idea papers related to the focus theme, devoted to completely new
research positions or approaches, in order to face to a generic
situation that arises because of, for instance, new methods and tools or
new types of emerging challenges; the compliance to the focus theme is
mandatory for idea papers, which should describe precisely the situation
and demonstrate the shortcomings of current methods, tools, ways of
reasoning, meta-models, etc.
Papers of all submission types should be of up to 15 pages. Please
follow the LNCS format instructions at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for all of them.
Papers should be submitted in Adobe PDF format. The results described
must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. The papers
should be submitted through the conference management system available
at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bpmds2013
PUBLICATIONS:
------------
The conference proceedings will be published in a Springer LNBIP volume
(joint with EMMSAD), "Enterprise, Business-Process and Information
Systems Modeling", as the four previous years (LNBIP 29, LNBIP 50, LNBIP
81, LNBIP 113).
After the BPMDS'13 conference, extended versions of the accepted papers
will be considered for publishing in a special issue of an international
journal.
The previous special issues are: BPMDS'12 in SoSyM in progress, BPMDS'11
in IJISMD in progress, BPMDS'10 selected papers in REJ in progress -
BPMDS'09 in IJISMD, vol. 2, issue 2, 2011 - BPMDS'08 in JSME vol. 2,

We accept three types of submissions: Regular Research Papers, Experience Papers and Demo/Poster Papers.
Regular Research Papers describe original solutions (theoretical, methodological or conceptual) in the field of secure information systems engineering. A regular research paper should describe the context of the work, the problem tackled, the relevant state of the art, the position or solution suggested and the benefits of the contribution. The length of regular research papers should not exceed 12 pages (including all text, figures, references and appendices.). Three to five keywords characterising the paper should be indicated at the end of the abstract.
Experience papers present application of work to case studies and industrial practice. Such papers should provide a detail description of the application setting, describe lessons learned, and discuss best practice. Experience papers should not exceed 12 pages (including all text, figures, references and appendices.). Three to five keywords characterising the paper should be indicated at the end of the abstract.
Demo/Poster papers should briefly discuss academic and/or industrial efforts on software tools and systems for secure information systems engineering. Demo/Poster papers should not exceed 1 page and they should provide a brief description of the research and software/system to be demonstrated. Poster papers are also ideal to explain a new idea and get feedback from the community. It is expected that accepted papers will be presented in the form of a live demonstration or a poster.
Submissions not conforming to the LNCS format and the above page limitations or being obviously out of the scope of the workshop will be rejected without review.
Registration
For each accepted submission, at least one author is expected to register for the workshop and attend the workshop in order to present the paper. Registration is through the CAiSE'13 web site.
Workshop Structure
The workshop will combine paper presentations, poster/demonstration session, and a keynote.
Moreover, accepted papers apart from presentation time, will be assigned with one or two discussants with responsibility to initiate the discussion on the paper. We are confident that such structure will support a workshop environment that will be based on discussion, debate and will therefore provide an important contribution to the relevant research community.

ADVANCES IN DESIGN RESEARCH FOR INFORMATION SYSTEMS
This mini-track provides a venue for IS design researchers to share
their work and interact with likeminded scholars. Design research may
be viewed as having three major subfields.
1. Design theory research focuses on the development of theories about
creating new or improved information systems based on kernel theories.
The IS design theory concept was first articulated two decades ago
(Walls, et al, 1992) and continues to be developed (Jones and Gregor,
2007). Research reported at the annual Design Science Research in
Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST) conference proceedings
illustrates work that continues in this area (Gurzick and Lutters,
2009). Design theory papers have also been published in the ICIS
Proceedings (e.g., Sarnikar and Deokar, 2009) and at HICSS-44 (e.g.,
Zhang, et al, 2011), HICSS-45 (e.g., Lee, et al, 2011), and HICSS-46
(Lu and Käkölä, 2013).
2. Design science research focuses on creating “new-to-the-world” IS
artifacts (Hevner, et al, 2004).
3. Science of design research involves the study of how designers
actually conduct design activities.
We welcome papers from any of the above subfields.
HICSS-47 CALL FOR PAPERS
Hilton Waikoloa, Big Island
January 6-9, 2014 (Monday-Thursday)
HICSS conferences are devoted to the most relevant advances in the
information, computer, and system sciences, and encompass developments
in both theory and practice. Accepted papers may be theoretical,
conceptual, tutorial or descriptive in nature. Those selected for
presentation will be included in the Conference Proceedings published
by the IEEE Computer Society and maintained in the IEEE Digital
Library.
How to Submit a Paper
Follow Author Instructions to be posted by February 1, 2013 on the
conference web site.
http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/hicss_47/apahome47.htm
• HICSS papers must contain original material. They may not have been
previously published, nor currently submitted elsewhere. All
submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process; so initial
submission must be without author names.
• Abstracts are optional, but strongly recommended. You may contact
the Minitrack Chair(s) for guidance or verification of content.
• Submit a paper to only one Minitrack. If a paper is submitted to
more than one minitrack, then either paper may be rejected by either
minitrack without consultation with author or other chairs. If you are
not sure of the appropriate Minitrack, submit an abstract to the Track
Chair(s) for determination, and/or seek informal opinion(s) of
Minitrack Chair(s) before submitting. – see names and contact
information below.
• Do not author or co-author more than 5 papers. This means that an
individual may be listed as author or co-author on no more than 5
submitted papers. Track Chairs must approve any names added after
submission or acceptance on August 15.
Important 2013 Deadlines for Authors
June 15 Submit full manuscripts for review as instructed. The review
is double-blind; therefore, this initial submission must be without
author names.
Aug 15 Review System emails. Acceptance Notices to authors. It is very
important that at least one author of each accepted paper attend the
conference. Therefore, all travel guarantees – including visa or your
organization’s fiscal funding procedures – should begin immediately.
Make sure your server accepts the review system address
https://precisionconference.com/~hicss
Sept 15 SUBMIT FINAL PAPER. Add author names to your paper, and
submit your Final Paper for Publication to the site provided in your
Acceptance Notice. (This URL is not public knowledge.)
Oct 1 Early Registration fee deadline. At least one author of each
paper should register by this date in order secure publication in the
Proceedings. Fees will increase on Oct 2 and Dec 2.
Oct 15 Papers without at least one paid-in-full registered author may
be deleted from the Proceedings and not scheduled for presentation;
authors will be so notified by the Conference Office.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
All conference cancellation requests must be in writing. A fee will
be charged for cancellation of registration after Oct 15, at which
time the paper is subject to withdrawal from the Proceedings. There
is no registration refund after Dec 1. Cancellations for
accommodations must be handled directly with the hotel.
