ANNOUNCEMENT
Ninth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning
(EC-TEL 2014)
Open Learning and Teaching in Educational Communities
16-19 September, 2014
Graz, Austria
http://ectel2014.httc.de
We are happy to announce first information about EC-TEL 2014.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
================================================
The European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) is a
unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to
address current challenges and advances in the field. Through EC-TEL,
established and emerging researchers as well as practitioners,
entrepreneurs, and technology developers explore new collaborations,
strengthen networks, and complement their core expertise.
VENUE
================================================
EC-TEL 2014 will take place between 16 and 19 September 2014 in Graz.
Graz – the second largest city in Austria – offers ideal conditions for
academic conferences set in beautiful countryside. Guests are always
enthusiastic about the picturesque Old Town, the attractive cultural
program and the quality and diversity of the cuisine.
THEME
================================================
Educational arrangements in our modern society are increasingly
characterized by openness in terms of participation, of
institutionalisation as well as of tools, devices and resources used. We
see shifts between formal, non-formal and informal learning. Learners
come together in different social settings and communities (such as in
groups in schools, teams in a company, or in informal communities of
learners). They share and co-create educational resources and interact
with an ever increasing number of open educational resources. Learning
communities differ in dimension from local ones, through distributed
groups up to global communities (as witnessed by the emerging MOOCs
paradigm). The learners use multiple computational tools and devices,
often at the same time (e.g. tablets and smartphones for individual
learning, interactive tables and electronic whiteboards for
collaboration, or mobile technologies for taking learning outside the
classroom). Access to the open educational arrangements takes place in a
mobile ubiquitous fashion.
There is a pressing need to understand how learning in such open
educational communities happens and how learning and teaching technology
can support in this context. To address these challenges the theme of
EC-TEL 2014 is "Open Learning and Teaching in Educational Communities".
EC-TEL 2014 is collocated with the 14th International Conference on
Knowledge Management and Knowledge Computing (I-KNOW 2014). The focus of
I-KNOW is on knowledge management and knowledge computing. I-KNOW will
consider technologies and methods which are of high relevance to support
smart learning.

Betreff: CALL FOR POSITION PAPERS: ICEIS 2014 - Int'l Conf. on
Enterprise Information Systems (Lisbon/Portugal)
Datum: Fri, 20 Dec 2013 15:08:28 +0000 (GMT)
Von: ICEIS Secretariat <iceis.secretariat(a)insticc.org>
Antwort an: iceis.secretariat(a)insticc.org
An: gustaf.neumann(a)wu-wien.ac.at
Dear Gustaf Neumann,
Let me kindly inform you that the 16th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2014 - http://www.iceis.org), to be held in Lisbon, Portugal (April 27 - 30, 2014) is now welcoming the submission of position papers whose deadline is scheduled for next January 7.
A position paper presents an arguable opinion about an issue. The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and worth listening to, without the need to present completed research work and/or validated results. It is, nevertheless, important to support your argument with evidence to ensure the validity of your claims. A position paper may be a short report and discussion of ideas, facts, situations, methods, procedures or results of scientific research (bibliographic, experimental, theoretical, or other) focused on one of the conference topics.
Please check further details about position papers submission at the conference website (http://www.iceis.org/GuidelinesTemplates.aspx).
The conference will be sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), held in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), ACM SIGMIS - ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems, ACM SIGCHI - ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Human Interaction, ACM SIGART - ACM Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence and IEICE Special Interest Group on Software Interprise Modelling (SWIM) and in collaboration with the Informatics Research Center (IRC). INSTICC is Member of the Object Management Group (OMG) and Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC). The Science and Technology Events (SCITEVENTS) will be the Logistics Partner.
ICEIS is interested in promoting high quality research as it can be confirmed by last year acceptance rates, where from 307 submissions, 8% were accepted as full papers. Additionally, 24% were presented as short papers and 27% as posters.
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus.
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SCITEPRESS is member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/).
We also would like to highlight the possibility to submit to the following Satellite Workshops and Special Session:
Workshops:
- 1st International Workshop on Optimization and Decision Support Systems for Sustainability - ODSSS 2014 (http://www.iceis.org/ODSSS.aspx)
- 3rd International Workshop on Web Intelligence - WEBI 2014 (http://www.iceis.org/WEBI.aspx)

Special Session:
- Special Session on Information Systems Security - ISS 2014 (http://www.iceis.org/ISS.aspx)
A Doctoral Consortium on Enterprise Information Systems will take place in conjunction with ICEIS and aims to provide an opportunity for graduate students to explore their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of distinguished experts in the field (http://www.iceis.org/DoctoralConsortium.aspx).
Further to this, we are glad to announce the tutorial of Jan L.G. Dietz that will be held during the conference and for which you can register. More information can be found here: http://www.iceis.org/tutorials.aspx
Workshops, Special sessions, Tutorials as well as Demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea.
The conference program features a number of Keynote Lectures to be delivered by distinguished world-class researchers, including those listed below.
Please check further details at the ICEIS conference website (http://www.iceis.org).
Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me.
ICEIS 2014 will be held in conjunction with ENASE 2014 (http://www.enase.org) in Lisbon, Portugal. Registration to ICEIS will enable free attendance to any sessions of ENASE conferences as a non-speaker.

*ICWE 2014 RESEARCH TRACKS * (further details at
http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/main-tracks/)
* *Cross-media and mobile Web applications
<http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/cross-media-and-mobile-web-applications/>*
The modern Web use is nomadic and across various devices - often
simultaneously - and the Web experience should be enjoyable, of high
quality and consistent across all devices, regardless of the purpose,
place and time of use. Such mobile, cross-device usage forces Web
developers to evolve or re-invent their engineering methods and
techniques to these new requirements and user demands. Web applications
have to be tailored to deal with the constraints imposed by mobile
technology such as small screens, low (and sometimes expensive)
bandwidth, limited browser capabilities, different usage situations,
cross- and multi-device use. Simultaneously, modern mobile devices offer
a rich set of sensors, available through current Web browsers, allowing
Web pages access to geo-location, NFC, and other sensor data, as well as
tracking user identity across devices. Also, he rise of the app as an
alternative for Web sites is a concern to be addressed to ensure a
future, open Web.
* *HCI and the Web <http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/hci-and-the-web/>*
Most Web applications are conceived as interactive systems that aim at
communicating with users. Users do not only consume information via the
Web, but can also play an active role by contributing content (e.g., Web
2.0), get involved in the development process of Web applications (e.g.,
agile and user-centered design processes) and even conceive their own
components by interacting with specialized tools (e.g., end-user
development tools). In this context, there are many user roles involved
in the socio-technical environment encompassing the development of Web
applications. This track is devoted to the studies on user interface
software and technologies that improve the relationship between users
and Web applications. We welcome research focused on improving
usability, accessibility, and user experience with Web applications, as
well as user-centered design approaches that describe how Web technology
and innovative design solutions can help users to better accomplish
their tasks over the Web.
* *Modeling and Engineering Web applications
<http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/modeling-and-engineering-web-application…>*
The Modeling and Engineering Web applications track concerns principles,
methods, notations, processes, approaches, and tools for supporting the
development and evolution of high-quality Web applications in a more
effective and efficient way. Model-driven approaches are of particular
interest for addressing complexity, scalability, and maintainability of
solutions for the development of Web applications, improving
communication among participants of the development teams, and
supporting the development of innovative tools and process. Furthermore,
empirical and comparative studies of applying Web engineering methods
and approaches, especially model-driven ones, are of particular interest.
* *Quality aspects of Web applications
<http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/quality-aspects-of-web-applications/>*
The development and usage of Web applications in different platforms and
devices are continuously increasing. Web applications have become the
most predominant form of software delivery today, with users and
businesses choosing to rent or use software rather than buy it. The
success of such applications depends on their capability to satisfy the
customer needs. This has led to increased attention on quality models,
processes and methods that facilitate understanding, evaluating, and
especially improving the overall quality of products, processes and
quality in use.
* *Social Web applications
Social aspects are an integral part of todays Web, and the widespread
use of the Web to connect, share and tap into collective knowledge
provides a wealth of actionable data. The crowd can be deployed in
various ways, i.e. the so-called crowdsourcing and human computation
applications, and their generated data is valuable for developers,
researchers and marketers alike. Successfully tapping into the crowds
knowledge, and gathering, analyzing, and visualizing complex,
heterogeneous social data, and putting it to good use are major current
challenges.
* *Web applications composition and mashups
<http://icwe2014.webengineering.org/web-applications-composition-and-mashups/>*
Composition on the Web aims to integrate Web services, Web data sources
and Web widgets into other Web services or Web applications. Mashups,
and especially mashup tools with their modeling languages and
instruments for mashup development, bring significant innovation as they
tackle integration across the data, API and user interface layers; they
aim at simplicity and ease of use rather than completeness of features
and full expressiveness (compared to traditional Web programming
languages and tools), but still they allow fairly sophisticated
development tasks in a Web browser. Hereby, mashups represent an
important and emerging strain of Web applications, with their own set of
research challenges and opportunities.

*Mini-tracks*
/Co-creating Innovations/
Carina Ihlström Eriksson <mailto:carina.ihlstrom_eriksson@hh.se>,
Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn
In today's global and competitive market, many organization's innovation
processes are shifting character from in-house and closed innovation
processes to more open processes where several stakeholders are included
to co-create digital innovations. One aim of opening up organization's
boundaries is to reach long-term sustainability and growth of both
organizations and society while taking human needs into account. Hence,
long-term sustainability includes societal and human needs that preserve
the environment from a global perspective so that human needs can be met
for generations to come. These open approaches are manifested in new
approaches to innovation such as open innovation, open source software
development and living labs. New digital innovations influence and bring
new values to societal and business practices. However, the process of
bringing the potential value of an innovation from idea through design
to the market is very challenging. By engaging the end-users and other
relevant stakeholders into the innovation system and design cycle, it
has been shown to improve the innovation capability and ensure
applications and services create both user value and market acceptance.
Co-creating digital innovation contributes to the emerging challenges of
mass-deployment of ICT solutions by bringing the
users/consumers/citizens into the innovation system, thereby leveraging
a large mass of ideas, knowledge and experiences. Such situated design
methodologies have the potential of substantially improving innovation
capability and forming the value networks that can realize innovation
value that fulfill the needs of the users. One goal then is to engage
and empower a diversity of stakeholders in open real-world
experimentally driven innovation processes.
The IS field is a boundary crossing and co-creative research area where
stakeholders, business areas, research disciplines and methods creates a
multifaceted research area. In contrast to more traditional IS research
contexts, co-creative innovation processes focus on identifying
opportunities for digital innovations that contribute to and enrich
people's everyday life including individual, organisational and wider
societal contexts. Co-creative innovation processes offer interesting
issues for theory and practice, creating new knowledge, methods and systems.
This mini-track expect papers on a broad range of issues related to
innovative and co-creative approaches to digital innovation and engaging
all stakeholders in the innovation process and value networks to realize
the potential value of an innovation.
/Consumerization of IT - BYOD and Beyond/
Rob Nickerson <mailto:RNick@sfsu.edu>, Iris Junglas, Sebastian Köffer
Organizations are facing an expanding challenge in managing enterprise
information technology: the consumerization of IT. The arrival of
consumer-oriented devices and applications into the workplace is
re-defining how corporate IT is adopted, delivered, and consumed.
Personal devices such as smartphones and tablets may be brought to the
workplace by employees (called BYOD) or provided by employers for use by
the workforce to help employees in their jobs. Consumer-oriented
applications, often in the cloud (such as Dropbox, Skype, Yammer
LinkedIn, and GoogleDocs), may be used by employees for work-related
activities with or without company sanction. While there is no single,
universally accepted definition of IT consumerization, it can loosely be
defined as the enterprise use of technologies that were originally
designed for the consumer market.
End-users have mastered new digital technologies enough to begin to
assert their independence from the constraints that the IT department
has previously put in place to ensure the compliance, security, and
stability of the corporate IT platform. Although the IT department has
confronted "rogue" or "shadow" IT efforts in the past and dealt with
"End User Computing" in the 1980s and 1990s, the recent technological
advancements and the expanding level of IT literacy are changing the
nature of how corporate IT and users of IT are managed.
While there are numerous industry-oriented articles on the
consumerization of IT, little academic research has appeared. This
dearth of research publications highlights the need for theoretical and
empirical investigation into this topic. The purpose of this mini-track
is to provide a forum for presenting research in this new and important
area.
/End-User Training, Support, and Knowledge Management/
Elizabeth A. Regan <mailto:earegan@mailbox.sc.edu>
This mini-track will focus on user training, support, and knowledge
management within and across organizations and cultures. Today's
anywhere, anytime work environment is made possible by a wide-range of
increasingly sophisticated communications and knowledge management
technologies. Knowledge management, along with a growing array of
collaborative tools and social media, has become increasingly mainstream
for managing today's global enterprises. Moreover, the concept of
managing end-user knowledge and expertise as an enterprise asset has
proven both appealing and elusive. Now with the growth of big data and
data mining, the concept of information or knowledge as a corporate
asset has been gaining increasing credibility. Managing knowledge assets
across a diverse workforce requires technical know-how along with
sensitivity to an organization's culture, group dynamics, and individual
work styles. Exploratory, theoretical, empirical and descriptive (case
studies) papers related to end-user training, support, knowledge
management, and knowledge as an asset are invited.
/IS and Process Innovation in Collaborative Networks /
Paul Drews <mailto:drews@informatik.uni-hamburg.de>, João P. de
Albuquerque, Jens Pöppelbuß
Today's organizations are highly interconnected in manifold kinds of
collaborative networks, such as virtual organizations, enterprise
alliances, business ecosystems, supply chains, social networks, and
ad-hoc networks (e.g., in disaster scenarios). These connections provide
great potentials for organizations as complementary competencies can be
brought together, leading to, e.g., product and service innovations,
streamlined cross-organizational operations, and advanced uses of IS/IT.
However, organizations within these collaborative settings are faced
with an increasing socio-technical complexity which not only arises from
integrating diverse organizations, their business processes and
corresponding IS/IT infrastructures, but also from their interaction
with people outside the organizational boundaries and with society
(e.g., by mobile devices and social media).
Traditional approaches for IS/IT innovation management and
organizational change can hardly be applied in this context, as they are
generally focused on a single organization with well-defined borders.
Hence, the design, management and deployment of IS and process
innovations in collaborative networks represent relevant and current
challenges for IS research. Answers to these challenges may include, for
instance, adapting existing or developing novel IS frameworks,
methodologies and approaches to deal with the socio-technical complexity
of collaborative networks.
This mini-track aims at providing a forum for research on methods for
analyzing and intervening into collaborative networks that consider the
tremendous size, geographical dispersion, socio-technical intertwining
as well as the limited possibilities to influence these networks. We
encourage conceptual, theoretical, methodological as well as empirical
contributions towards understanding and managing business processes and
IS in collaborative networks.
/Managing End-User IS Innovation in Complex Organizational Networks and
Ecosystems/
Elizabeth A. Regan <mailto:earegan@mailbox.sc.edu>
The integration of information and communication technologies across all
industry sectors continues to challenge the ability of organizations to
engage employees in innovations essential to realizing business value.
Although computing devices have become ubiquitous in the workplace, IT
applications seldom are used to their potential. This mini-track seeks
papers related to implementing and managing end-user IS innovation in
complex organizational networks and ecosystems. Research and practice
related to all aspects of workplace transformation are invited. We are
particularly interested in field research that addresses how
organizations integrate information technology with business process to
transform ways in which they deliver products and services and the
impact of these innovations on the way people work and on customer
satisfaction.
/Organizational Learning through Process Modelling/
Lars-Olof Johansson, Jens Pöppelbuß <mailto:jepo@is.uni-bremen.de>
For understanding and improving work practices, organizations frequently
rely on process models. Process discovery activities (i.e., activities
aiming at exploring how work is performed), for instance, help to
understand the operation of business processes so that they can be
represented in meaningful models which, in turn, can form the basis for
employee training. Process-oriented methods (e.g., TQM, Lean Management,
or Six Sigma) are widely adopted to improve the operations of
organizations. More generally, business process orientation (BPO) is
considered to help organizations to dissolve functional, in-house
boundaries (e.g., between the IT department and other departments) as
well as the boundaries to customers and suppliers. In this context,
process models can serve as boundary objects between different intra-
and inter-organizational communities of practice that facilitate
organizational learning. However, many organizations also face problems
with their process documentations. The ways people actually work often
differ from the ways the organization has defined that work, leading to
a model-reality divide. People may also be reluctant to implement and
perform according to process designs that result from process
improvement or reengineering projects.
New methods and tools can help organizations with the management of
process-related knowledge and learning. Increasing involvement of
employees and improved analytical approaches that disclose how processes
are really performed can lead to more sustainable business processes,
i.e., business process that will be accepted within the organization.
Current web-based technologies, for instance, yield the potential to
increase the involvement of employees in process modelling and process
improvement activities. Making the documentation and analysis of
business processes a more participatory and social endeavor appears
promising to reduce organizational inertia. Improved analysis
functionality like process mining helps to discover and analyze
processes based on real event logs recorded by information systems, also
leveraging organizational learning.
This mini-track intends to serve as a platform for research on the
intersections between organizational learning, knowledge management, and
process modelling/visualization. We invite contributions from
disciplines including information systems, information management,
organization, science, computer science and management science.
Boundary-spanning research that connects business process modelling and
organizational learning with other than the named disciplines is also
welcome. We encourage papers applying a wide variety of methodologies,
including quantitative and qualitative, empirical and theoretical
research such as case studies, action research, surveys, experiments,
and design science.
