*IEEE International Workshop on Software Defined Systems
(SDS -2014)
*
*in conjunction with*
*2014 IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E 2014)
March 11, 2014, Boston, Massachusetts, USA*
* Call for papers*
Next generation cloud systems will require a paradigm shift in how
they are constructed and managed. Conventional control and
management platforms are facing considerable challenges regarding
flexibility, dependability and security that next generation systems
will require. The cloud computing paradigm has gone part of the way
towards alleviating some of the problems associated with resource
allocation, utilization and managements (e.g., via elasticity).
However, many of the elements of a well-designed cloud environment
remain “stiff” and hard to modify and adapt in an integrated
fashion. This includes underlying networking topologies, many
aspects of the user control over IaaS, PaaS or SaaS layers when such
is needed, construction of XaaS services, provenance and meta-data
collection, and so on. In many situations the problem may be because
service abstraction is inadequate. Software Defined Systems (SDS)
are systems that have added software components which help abstract
actual IT equipment and other layers. One classical example, of
course, are hypervisors. Such separation provides a great
opportunity for system administrators to more easily construct and
managing their systems through flexible software layers. Software
Defined Systems include Software Defined Networking (SDN), Software
Defined Storage, Software Defined Servers (Virtualization), Software
Defined Datacenters (SDD), Software Defined Security (SDSec), and
ultimately Software Defined Clouds (SDCloud) to name a few
possibilities. Individual solutions and seamless integration of
these abstractions remains in many respects a challenge. The first
International workshop on Software Defined Systems (SDS -2014) is a
forum for scientists, researchers, students, and practitioners to
present their latest research results, ideas, and developments in
the area of software defined systems – both components and their
integration - and by implication advancement of next generation clouds.

ICCS 2014 - Call for Papers
21st International Conference on Conceptual Structures
-- Graph-based Representation and Reasoning --
27 - 30 July 2014, Iasi, Romania
http://iccs2014.info.uaic.ro/
# Scope and Significance
The International Conferences on Conceptual Structures (ICCS) focus on
the formal analysis and representation of conceptual knowledge with
applications to artificial intelligence, computational linguistics,
and related areas of computer science. The ICCS conferences evolved
from a series of seven annual workshops on conceptual graphs, starting
with an informal gathering hosted by John F. Sowa in 1986. Recently,
graph-based knowledge representation and reasoning (KRR) paradigms are
getting more and more attention. The aim of the ICCS 2014 conference
is to build upon its long standing expertise in graph-based KRR and
focus on providing modelling, formal and application results of
graph-based systems.
ICCS 2014 will be held in Iasi, Romania at the Al. I. Cuza University,
the oldest higher education institution in Romania. The university was
founded one year after the establishment of the Romanian state
in 1860. Iasi has a long tradition in higher education and has
traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social,
cultural, academic and artistic life.
The conference welcomes contributions that address graph-based
representation and reasoning paradigms (e.g. Bayesian Networks (BNs),
Semantic Networks (SNs), RDF(S), Conceptual Graphs (CGs), Formal
Concept Analysis (FCA), CP-Nets, GAI-Nets, Argumentation, Graph
Databases, etc.) from a modelling, theoretical and application
viewpoint:
- *Modelling results* will investigate concrete real world needs for
graph-based representation, how certain use cases are of interest to
the graph community, how using graphs can bring added (business)
value, what kind of graph representation is needed for a given case
etc.
- *Technical results* will include fundamental graph theory based
results for novel structures for representation, extensions of
existing structures for added expressivity, conciseness,
optimisation algorithms for reasoning, reasoning explanation, etc.
- Papers reporting on *application experience* will be expected to
demonstrate the benefits of the graph-based proposed solutions in
the context of the use case studied with respect to other possible
solutions.
The conference also welcomes papers on the following topics: Knowledge
Management, Knowledge Architectures, Reasoning under Inconsistency,
Knowledge Representation and Uncertainty, Contextual Logic,
Metaphoric, Cultural or Semiotic Considerations, Ontologies, Semantic
Web, Web of Data, Web 2.0, Conceptual Knowledge Acquisition, Data
Mining, Text Mining, Natural Language Processing, Linguistics,
Constraint Satisfaction, Decision Making, Resource Allocation and
Agreement Technologies.
# Submission and Publication
We invite scientific publications of up to fourteen pages. For each
paper, an abstract must be submitted by March 2nd, 2014. Papers must
be formatted according to Springer’s LNCS style guidelines
(http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0) and not
exceed the page limit. The submission is to be done via EasyChair
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iccs20141). All
submissions will be refereed, and the conference proceedings will be
published by Springer in the LNCS/LNAI series - both online and
printed. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for
the conference and present the paper there.

*** Call for Workshop Proposals ***
Fifth International Conference on Software Business (ICSOB 2014)
Azia Resort and Spa, Paphos Cyprus
June 15-18, 2014
http://www.icsob.org
Deadline for proposals: December 23rd
Notification: December 31st
We invite proposals for workshops. Workshops are intended to provide a
forum for the discussion of a specific topic from the field of software
business between an international group of researchers. Software business
creates a noticeable spillover within other industries (e.g. manufacturing,
entertainment industry) enabling new business models: companies bundle
their physical products and software services into solutions (e.g. using
subscription models or in-app purchases) and start to sell independent
software products in addition to physical products. Therefore, we invite
workshop proposals that focus on software business in new and emerging
industries. Finally, we also warmly welcome workshop proposals aligned
with the theme of ICSOB 2014: ?Shortening the time-to-market?.
Each workshop should have at least four paper presentations. The workshop
organiser will be responsible for advertising the workshop, reviewing and
selecting the papers. Financial assistance for the workshop organiser
will be
limited to one fee waiver for the conference. Papers accepted for workshops
are planned to be published under the CCIS proceedings,
http://link.springer.com/search?facet-series=%227899%22&facet-content-type=…
.
Proposals to organise workshops should include the following information:
?Title of the workshop
?Name, affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address of the proposer(s).
?A brief introduction of the proposer, explaining his/her qualifications.
?Names of at least three PC members for the workshops
?A description of the topic of the session (not exceeding 100 words)
?A short description on how the session will be advertised so as to ensure
a sufficiently wide range of authors.
?A description of how the workshop will contribute to the field of
Software Business.
Please send your proposals to the Program Chairs of ICSOB 2014 and to
workshop chair:
Casper Lassenius, Aalto University, Finland, workshops(a)icsob.org
<mailto:workshops@icsob.org>
Kari Smolander, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland,
workshops(a)icsob.org <mailto:workshops@icsob.org>
Krzysztof Wnuk, Lund University, Sweden, workshops(a)icsob.org
<mailto:workshops@icsob.org>
Papers for workshops should be submitted directly to the workshop using
our paper
submission system. The workshop organizer will be required to use the
ICSOB 2014
paper submission engine and to review the papers on basis of the same
criteria as
those in the main track. The list of papers accepted for a workshop
should be sent
to the Program Chairs before April 15, 2014.

AIMS:
AlCoB aims at promoting and displaying excellent research using string and
graph algorithms and combinatorial optimization to deal with problems in
biological sequence analysis, genome rearrangement, evolutionary trees, and
structure prediction.
The conference will address several of the current challenges in
computational biology by investigating algorithms aimed at: 1) assembling
sequence reads into a complete genome, 2) identifying gene structures in the
genome, 3) recognizing regulatory motifs, 4) aligning nucleotides and
comparing genomes, 5) reconstructing regulatory networks of genes, and 6)
inferring the evolutionary phylogeny of species.
Particular focus will be put on methodology and significant room will be
reserved to young scholars at the beginning of their career.
VENUE:
AlCoB 2014 will take place in Tarragona, located 90 kms. to the south of
Barcelona. The venue will be the Catalunya Campus.
SCOPE:
Topics of either theoretical or applied interest include, but are not
limited to:
Exact sequence analysis
Approximate sequence analysis
Pairwise sequence alignment
Multiple sequence alignment
Sequence assembly
Genome rearrangement
