ICST Transactions on e-Education and e-Learning - Call for Papers
http://icst.org/e-education-and-e-learning/
Scope
Education is one domain that has accompanied civilization through the
centuries, adapting its tools to fulfill the expectations of the
students and the needs of the teachers. Such tools can be as obvious and
traditional as pencils and a notebook, or as complex and innovative as
websites and multi-user virtual environments. Typical in-person learning
environments, such as classrooms and meeting rooms, are at times not the
best solution to enable and maximize a student’s ability to learn.
Although they do fulfill their purpose of giving students the
possibility of reaching course material and instructors, they also
create a barrier that cannot be easily overcome.
Web-based instruction and multi-user virtual environments break the
time-limited barrier innate to typical lectures and explore, through
innovative technologies, a concept as old as humankind: socialization
and the feeling of belonging to a community. Many universities, public
institutions and private businesses are projecting themselves on the
Internet and in virtual worlds to reach the customer at any time, giving
them the idea of virtual presence that cannot be delivered through a
simple website.
Topics to be discussed in this journal focus on (but not limited to) the
following concepts:
• Teaching / Educational Models and Frameworks
• Accessibility and usability of web-based instruction in the classroom
• Best Practices
• Developing courses and content to be used in on-line educational
environments
• Student engagement
• Experiments
• Impacts of on-line on traditional teaching and learning strategies
Editors in Chief
Giovanni Vincenti, Towson University, Towson, MD, USA
James Braman, Towson University, Towson, MD, USA
Unique Advantages of Publishing with ICST
ICST offers authors the revolutionary e-SCRIPTS system – a Web 2.0-based
peer-review and manuscript management application that guarantees
objective and fast reviewing, through an innovative reviewer bidding
process that automatically matches the most qualified reviewer to the
paper based on internationally recognized indicators such as H-index.
Also based on that, acceptance decisions are expected to be now made in
weeks instead of many months. In addition, ICST provides extremely short
publication times by posting the paper on-line immediately after
acceptance and extreme visibility/impact to the scientific community via
synergies with the other ICST tools such as EU Digital Library and a
broad abstract dissemination channel without compromises on the
protection of authors’ intellectual property. All these innovative
aspects are coupled with traditional elements of technical excellence,
such as indexing by ISI, EI, DBLP, INSPEC, Google Scholar, and all other
major indexing organizations, as well as ISSN registration.
In short: fast and high-quality review; rapid publication; innovative
publishing tools; and decision-making really open to the community.

PAPER/ABSTRACT FORMAT
---------------------
Detailed information concerning the formatting guidelines, templates,
online submission process, and proceedings can be found
at http://www.dmi.unict.it/ecal2013/callpapers.php
There are two options for submission: either *full paper* or
*abstract*. Note that the format is exactly the same for both options.
The only difference resides in the number of pages and type of contents:
1. Full papers have an *8-page* maximum length and should report on
new, unpublished work
2. Abstracts are limited to a *2-page* length and should discuss work
previously published in a journal. It is therefore essential that a
reference to the previous article is clearly cited in the abstract.
All submissions will be subject to peer review, and all accepted
submissions will be allocated either an oral presentation slot or a
poster slot with no distinction being made between the two submission
options (full paper or abstract).
PUBLICATION
---------------------
Every accepted full-paper and abstract, which was submitted to the
main conference (not the satellite workshops), will be published by
MIT Press in a single online open-access proceedings volume.
The top 10 accepted publications will have the opportunity to publish
a revised and expanded version of their conference paper in the
Artificial Life journal (TBC).

CALL FOR PAPERS
19th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Chicago, Illinois, August 15-17, 2013 (http://amcis2013.aisnet.org/)
Track: Enterprise systems (SIGEntSys)
Minitrack: Very Large Business Applications (VLBA) – Issues and Answers
================================================================
DESCRIPTION
Emerging technologies like mash-ups, web 2.0 and cloud computing on
the one side and the increasing agility of business models on the
other side raises the question how Enterprise Systems will look like
in the future. Therefore, we see a new class of Enterprise Systems
which address the need for more agility in the entire value chain with
a loosely coupled system of distinct elements, orchestrated to a
highly integrated, complex Information System (Very Large Business
Applications, VLBA).
VLBA act as enabler for intra- and interorganisational business
processes and play a significant role in the development of new
business models. This Mini-Track aims at studying, grounding, and
finally exploiting the potential of VLBA to solve integration and
coordination problems in distributed business processes as a key
enabler of flexible boundaryless information systems.
Key research questions are:
- how to represent VLBA in service-based information systems by
employing and adapting constructs, models, and methods of different
information systems technology stacks,
- how to coordinate software services by employing and adapting
approaches for service discovery and composition,
- how to negotiate and agree upon the delivery of software-based
services (SLA),
- how to control the delivery of software-based services in VLBA by
measuring efficiency and effectiveness?
SUGGESTED TOPICS
Topics relevant for this mini-track include, but are not limited to,
the following:
- Cloud Computing and VLBA
- VLBA Operations Management
- Strategic, tactic and operative Systems Landscape Engineering
- VLBA Business Simulations
- VLBA Business Models
- Analytical Business Process Engineering for VLBA
- VLBA and Knowledge Management
- VLBA security issues
- Innovative VLBA Applications
We invite contributions from different disciplines including
information systems, information management, computer and management
science to properly cover all facets of Very Large Business
Applications. We encourage papers applying quantitative and
qualitative, empirical and theoretical research methodologies such as
case studies, action research, surveys, experiments, and design
science.

Call for Papers, Special Issue of Information & Management
IS Ethics: Past, Present, and Future
Guest Editor:
Trevor T. Moores
Department of Information Systems, Decision Sciences & Statistics
ESSEC Business School
Cergy-Pontoise
FRANCE
What have we learned about the ethical dimensions of information systems
since Masonâ??s seminal paper in 1986 that suggested Privacy, Accuracy,
Property, and Accessibility (PAPA) were the four ethical issues of the
information age? Was Mason right? Have other issues arisen, given the
increased amount of data that each person spawns in their daily lives,
from swiping a credit card, buying online, or updating profiles on
social networking sites? To answer these and other pertinent questions,
this special issue invites original papers and case studies that examine
the ethical impact of information systems on business and society.
Qualitative as well as quantitative analysis methodologies are
encouraged. Topics include, but are not limited to:
·-- Meta-studies of past theoretical viewpoints
·-- Philosophical frameworks that help describe the nature of ethical
issues in information systems
·-- Modeling the ethical decision-making process
·-- Social and psychological theories applied to ethical decision-making
·-- Case studies in particular areas, such as big data, security,
m-commerce, or health IT
·-- New approaches to understanding ethical issues in information systems
All submissions must be made through the Elsevier journal website
(http://ees.elsevier.com/infman/). A guide for authors is also provided
on the website. Please note in your submission that the paper is
intended for the special issue on IS Ethics. Important dates are as follows:
Submission Deadline: August 31, 2013

SPECIAL ISSUE ON Electronic Business Interoperability: Moving Towards
Common Understanding of the E-Business Environment
International Journal of E-Business Research (IJEBR)
Guest Editor: Ejub Kajan
INTRODUCTION:
Since the advent of EDI, practitioners and researchers have longed for an
e-business environment where business transactions can be conducted in a
fair and open manner regardless of the origin and size of enterprises.
Despite many failures and disappointments, an overarching idea has stayed
alive: define, develop, and implement a fully interoperable e-business
framework that is able to overcome all existing heterogeneities and allow
for easy participation in e-business. However, the openness of such
environments are limited to the particular framework deployed, and
additionally may be decreased due to so called additional features that
vendors like to offer to get a larger slice of the market. In recent
years, many technological enablers, known as advanced Web technologies,
and Web x.0 as well as their mixture, have been developed and deployed in
e-commerce frameworks. Currently, a vision, concrete results that lead to
common understanding of the e-business environment where technologies are
deployed with full potential, and their intelligent combination are
necessary to meet full interoperability requirements.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:
This special issue seeks to foster a scientific understanding of
e-business interoperability, forecast future trends in the area, and
provide a timely publication of current research efforts,. This special
issue is concerned not only with particular advanced technologies or their
mixture, but also with the conceptual frameworks, new business models and
business process modeling, and security issues.
RECOMMENDED TOPICS:
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited
to) the following:
• Conceptual frameworks for global e-business in terms of advanced
technologies
• Interoperability frameworks between end users (customers, citizens,
employees), enterprises and governments
• Influence of Web.2.0
• Achievements of Web service networks
• Web 3.0, issues, results, and challenges
• Towards Web intelligence for advanced E-Business
• Internet of Things and E-Business: concepts, opportunities, and
challenges
• Towards common understanding in E-Business (A2A, B2B, G2B, …)
• Business process modeling in (and for) new environments
• New business models influenced by recent technological achievements
• The impact of agent technologies on the common understanding of
E-Business
• Connecting together the power of several technologies
• Security and privacy in advanced E-Business environments
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this
special theme issue on the Impact of High-Speed Broadband on or before 31
December 2013. All submissions must be original and may not be under
review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE
JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at

*** Second Call for Papers and other contributions (short version) ***
EC-TEL 2013: Eighth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning
"Scaling Up Learning for Sustained Impact"
17-21 September 2013, Paphos, Cyprus
http://ec-tel.eu/
The European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) is a
unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers
to address current challenges and advances in the field. Through EC-TEL,
established and emerging researchers as well as practitioners,
entrepreneurs, and technology developers explore new collaborations,
strengthen networks, and complement their core experience.
While Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) has created enormous changes
in schools, universities and at the workplaces, innovations have tended
to be unsustainable. Too often, initiatives need a high degree of effort
to be sustained, and are consequently endangered when funding stops.
Many initiatives now focus on scaling up bottom-up initiatives to create
higher and more sustainable impact. These initiatives require an
interdisciplinary perspective in TEL research and development, drawing
on core disciplines of Computer Science, Education, Psychology,
Cognitive Science, and Social Science. This blend of research traditions
has always been a strength of EC-TEL and its vibrant community.
We invite contributions for demonstrations, workshops and project
meetings, as well as original research papers. A doctoral consortium
will also be organized concurrently with the workshops. See the website
for more details: http://ec-tel.eu/
Note: the European Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work
(ECSCW) will be hosted from 21-25 September at the same location as
EC-TEL 2013. So there is a good opportunity to visit both conferences
at the same time.

maximum 4 pages long outlining the theme of the workshop, workshop
format, expected participants and domains addressed, dissemination
activities, workshop organizing committee, and organizational
requirements. Proposals should be submitted via the EasyChair system
of EC-TEL. We are exploring possibilities for arranging publication
of all workshop papers in a post-conference proceedings volume to be
published by Springer. Workshop organizers should indicate in their
proposals whether they would like to contribute to such a
post-conference proceedings volume, or whether they are targeting
other high-quality publication outlets such as international
