2nd International Workshop on Teaching Analytics (IWTA-2013)
at LAK2013 -- Third Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge
<http://lakconference2013.wordpress.com/>
9 April 2013, Leuven, Belgium
*Description*
The core problem that this workshop series on "Teaching Analytics"
addresses is that in comparison with most other professionals from whom
clients expect rapid decisions in a dynamically changing environment,
presently teachers often do not get the information they need for
decision making in a timely fashion and in a meaningful and actionable
format. Teaching Analytics is conceived as a subfield of learning
analytics that focuses on the design, development, evaluation, and
education of visual analytics methods and tools for teachers in primary,
secondary, and tertiary educational settings. Teachers' professional
practices with visual analytics methods and tools are a central concern
of teaching analytics. Teaching analytics methods and tools aim to
develop innovative solutions to assist and augment teachers' dynamic
diagnostic decision-making in the classrooms of the 21^st century. An
example usage scenario (but not limited to) is the use of teaching
analytics methods and tools in high-performance classrooms that are
characterized by 1:1 computing, high cognitive density, and big data.
Building on the NEXT-TELL project and the first international workshop
on teaching analytics (TAPTA-2012) held at EC-TEL 2012
(http://www.next-tell.eu/tapta/), the current workshop (IWTA-2013)
explores methods and tools to support teachers' professional vision in
classrooms. This workshop's ambitious objective is to jumpstart a new
learning analytics research stream on teaching analytics by bringing
together learning scientists in different sub-fields such as CSCL, ITS,
EDM, researchers in Visual Analytics, and data scientists working with
"Big Data" in public institutions and private enterprises. In addition
to researchers, we are also targeting teachers at primary, secondary,
and tertiary levels of education to be involved as co-designers and
discussants.
As mentioned earlier, the first workshop on teaching analytics
(TAPTA-2012, http://www.next-tell.eu/tapta/), was held at EC-TEL 2012.
The workshop participants included researchers as well as teachers.
Topics presented and discussed at the first workshop included semiology
for teaching analytics, multi-domain perspective on data collection and
analysis, ontological engineering and scripting applications, open
learner models, browser-based learning management system extensions, and
investigation tools for teacher training. Teachers from the Strömstad
Gymnasium, Sweden were invited to present their observations and
reflections on the pedagogical practices in their 1:1 laptop school.
Workshop proceedings are available at http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-894/.
The key lessons learnt from the first workshop were the need to further
focus the workshop on teachers' current pedagogical and analytical
practices, expand the scope to include real-time teaching scenarios in
the actual classroom, and explicitly emphasize the use of visual
analytics for technology enhanced formative assessment. Based on the
above, we invite researchers and teachers to participate in the
IWTA-2013. Workshop submissions can be in the form of position papers,
tool demonstrations, conceptual sketches, and/or thought experiments.
Please note workshop submissions should be concerned with teachers' use
of visual analytics methods and tools in some shape or form. No
requirements are placed on contexts such as high-performance classrooms
or big data volumes or real-time decision-making.

PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION
Shifting to knowledge based society, high level educational environments
are required with which it is possible to continue to learn for anybody,
anytime, and anywhere.The area of e-Learning realizes such kind of
educational environments because distributed learners can learn
collaboratively with multimedia contents anytime and anywhere by
employing collaborative e-Learning technologies.
Collaborative e-learning technologies include a variety of approaches
that involve joint intellectual effort by learners and instructors.In
such learning contexts, collaborative learning happens when groups of
learning seekers work together to search for understanding or meaning or
build a new competency, and/or learning providers and pedagogues deliver
joint solutions to create a learning product.
In addition collaborative e-learning involves other issues related to
the software and hardware architectures that underlie e-learning
systems, or the evaluation of these systems using techniques such as
learning analytics.
This workshop solicits researches for systems and concepts which offer
high quality education with thinking of learners' convenience, such as
collaborative learning systems, sharing and exchanging systems,
monitoring/mentoring systems, learning design and pedagogy in
technology-enhanced learning, design and development of e-learning
systems, quality in e-learning, and learning analytics.
E-Learning outcomes have been judged to be equivalent or superior to
face-to-face instructions at many institutions and it has the same
educational effect on learners in instructors' impressions.Hence, this
is a promising field with a lot of potentials.

Call for Papers
5th International Workshop on
Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISA'13)
- Concepts, Technologies, Applications -
September 5-6, 2013 --- St. Gallen, Switzerland
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Objectives
=====================
The strategic importance of enterprise modelling has been recognized by
an increasing number of
companies and public agencies. Enterprise modelling delivers the
'blueprints' for co-designing and
aligning business and enterprise information systems such that they
complement each other in an
optimal way. As example consider the support of business processes by
process-aware information
systems. Achieving such interplay requires a multi-perspective approach
taking organizational, eco-
nomic, and technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud, social
and big data, additional chal-
lenges for enterprise modelling and the design of information systems
architectures are introduced,
e.g., in respect to the design of data-driven processes or processes
enabling cross-enterprise collabo-
ration. To deal with these challenges, a close cooperation of
researchers from different disciplines
such as Information Systems, Business Informatics, and Computer Science
will be required.
Subject and Topics

(GI-SIG MobIS).
GI-SIG EMISA. The GI Special Interest Group on Design Methods for
Information Systems (SIG EMISA)
provides a forum for researchers from various disciplines who develop
and apply methods to support
the analysis and design of information systems.
GI-SIG MobIS. Conceptual Modelling is pivotal for analyzing and
designing information systems that
are in line with a company's long term strategy and that efficiently
support its core business process-
es. The Special Interest Group on Modelling Business Information Systems
(SIG MobIS) within the
German Informatics Society (GI) aims at providing a forum for exchanging
ideas and solutions on
modelling research within Information Systems both for researchers and
experts from industry.

2nd Workshop on Mapping Research in Mobility and Mobile Information Systems – MMSmap 2013
http://fg-mms.gi.de/veranstaltungen/2nd-workshop-on-mapping-research-in-mob…
Magdeburg, Germany, March 11th, 2013
within the 15th GI-Symposium Database Systems for Business, Technology and Web (BTW 2013)
http://www.btw-2013.de/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Workshop Description:
=====================
Mobility is key for modern computer-based information systems: users are mobile, devices are mobile, services are mobile, workflows include mobility, business models reflect mobility, etc. Researchers have worked in this area since more than 10 years.
In Germany, the GI-section “Mobility and Mobile Information Systems – FG MMS” founded in Spring 2005 aims at bundling activities in this field. In October 2006 the first edition of this workshop took place at Dagstuhl. During this meeting participants structured the (German) research landscape on MMS topics. These efforts resulted in the MMS conference series, various research collaborations and supported the development of the MMS section as an active part of the GI.
Due to technical developments in the hardware sector (e.g., smartphones) and the network infrastructure (e.g., UMTS, LTE), many former visions have by now become reality. Nevertheless, there are many open research questions left. To build future work on a solid basis the MMS organizers’ board plans seven years after the first workshop to consolidate the mobility research landscape in 2013, again.
To derive a detailed summary of mobility research (in Germany) we aim to hold a “real” workshop that is divided into two parts: 1) brief presentations of participants’ recent work or developments and future research or developments they foresee as well as 2) a moderated broad discussion that helps to focus or identify main drivers and research questions during the next years. Therefore, the second part of the workshop is planned to be a so-called future search conference. The main outcome of this workshop will be on the one hand a map (landscape) of mobile research (in Germany) and on the other hand a roadmap describing future trends and steps in this field as a kind of research agenda for the next few years.
We invite researchers as well as practitioners of the mobile community to participate in this workshop presenting their most recent research topics in the morning session of the workshop and to actively participate during the afternoon discussion. The presentation of each participant should be no longer than ten to fifteen minutes giving the opportunity for first very brief (five minutes) discussion afterwards.
To participate in this one day workshop please register your interest before 31.01.2013 via email to Markus Bick (mbick(a)escpeurope.eu) of the organizers. Please indicate, whether you will participate in the workshop actively (presenting) or more or less passively. In a next step, we would like to ask those who want to present their recent research to submit their presentation before 17.02.2013 to the workshop organizers. The presentation (PDF file) should preferably be around 12 slides and address the aspects like: relevance of the topic, problem description and challenges, corresponding research methods to solve the problem, examples of first results. The presentations will be screened by the organizers to structure the workshop considering different subject areas. Additionally, some feedback will be provided. Revised final presentations are due on the 28.02.2013, please send to mbick(a)escpeurope.eu if they should be provided as handouts to the other participants.
Summary of Important Dates:
===========================
- 31.01.2013, register your interest
- 17.02.2013, submit presentation
- 28.02.2013, revised / final presentations due
- 11.03.2013, workshop in Magdeburg

CONFERENCE
Mobile business changed a lot in the last twelve years, rising from a niche
topic - all the way along the Gartner hype cycle - to one of the most
relevant issues for many of today's businesses and researchers. Mobility
changes users' daily lives in its private as well as in its professional
part. Mobile business created own ecosystems, constantly changes them and
even begins to change existing ecosystems in the real world, redistributing
market power in consumer-oriented industries and revolutionizing business
processes in all industries that include mobility aspects or mobile workers.
In the future, we will see mobility as the invisible norm.
Founded in 2002 in Athens, ICMB developed to the major international
research conference on mobility and mobile business. It included scenes such
as New York, Sydney and Dalian. The 2013 edition will take place in Berlin,
Germany, from 10-13 June 2013 and will be hosted by the wi-mobile Research
Group of the University of Augsburg, together with the SIG Mobility and
Mobile IS of the German Informatics Society (GI). The conference is aimed at
addressing a key theme on ?Mobility ? the invisible norm?.
The core of ICMB 2013 is a two-day academic conference program. Acceptance
of submitted papers will be based on quality, relevance and originality.
Further ICMB 2013 events will include a workshop program, a doctoral

Description of CBI Domains:
===========================
1. Business Process Engineering
Business Informatics deals with information processes in organizations, industries and society at large. This concept of "information in motion" links to business processes deeply. Processes are the expression of the behavior of organizations and this behavior leaves footprints in the form of artifacts of all sorts, including information. Thus, Business Informatics profoundly intersects with the social enterprise from a unique perspective, namely, the integration of information and people's behavior.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Business Process Architecture and Process Taxonomies
* Information-centric Business Process Models
* The liaison between Organizational Routines and Processes
* Process as Enacting Organizational Capabilities
* Transformation and Business Process Centers of Excellence: Case Studies
* Management and Governance for Business Process Engineering
* Business Process Analytics and Decision-Making
* Tooling for Business Process Engineering
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Enterprise Modeling
Enterprise modeling is concerned with the modeling of different aspects of an enterprise (goals, capabilities, organizational structures, business processes, resources, information, people, constraints, etc.) and their interrelationships. Accordingly, enterprise modeling offers different perspectives of an enterprise suitable for strategic planning, organizational design and software engineering. It covers the notation and semantics of enterprise modeling languages, the processes involved in creating and managing models, tool support, as well as quality of modeling.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Enterprise modeling methods, languages, and tools
* Enterprise model management and reuse
* The process of modeling and guidelines for modeling
* Collaborative enterprise modeling
* Competencies of modelers and modeling teams
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Enterprise Architecture
In contrast to partial architectures such as IT architecture or software architecture, enterprise architecture focuses on the overall enterprise. Enterprise architecture explicitly incorporates business-related concepts and artifacts in addition to traditional IS/IT artifacts. By embracing an enterprise-wide perspective enterprise architecture provides a means for organizations to coordinate their adaptations to increasingly fast changing market conditions which impact the entire enterprise, from business processes to IT support.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* EA as a means for strategy elaboration and execution
* EA modeling languages, tools, viewpoints and frameworks
* EA management and governance
* EA reference models and simplified / agile methods
* EA Case studies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Enterprise Engineering
The enterprise engineering domain aims to apply an engineering based approach to the design of enterprises and their transformation. As such, this domain is concerned with the development of new, appropriate theories, models, methods and other artifacts for the analysis, design, implementation, and governance of enterprises by combining (relevant parts of) management and organization science, information systems science, and computer science.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Enterprise Ontology
* Enterprise Implementation Design
* Business Rules Management
* Modeling (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Reference models
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Enterprise & Business Transformation
Modern day enterprises are in a constant state of flux. New technologies, new markets, globalization, mergers, acquisitions, cost reduction and operational performance improvements are among the "usual suspects" that require enterprises to transform themselves. These transformations involve both the development of new business models, as well as transformations of the enterprise as a whole.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Methodologies and approaches for enterprise & business transformation
* Modeling languages and analysis techniques needed for enterprise & business transformation
* Methodologies and approaches to set up/mature an organization's transformation capability
* Competencies needed to conduct/drive enterprise & business transformations
* Case studies in enterprise & business transformation
* Industry-specific trends in the evolution of business organizations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Business (Model) & Service Innovation
We live in a service dominant economy. Being successful in business no longer depends on having the "best" product, but increasingly depends on delivering high quality services, through attractive customer-centric business models, at affordable costs. This forces enterprises to continuously develop/innovate their services and renew/innovate their business models. The world's evolution toward services-based clusters also brings new trends that blur the traditional boundaries across conventional industries, thus generating new opportunities for economies of scale and scope. This has led to increasing interests by disparate industries around the globe in the "art and science" of the practices of service innovation. A new concept, called service-dominant logic, has recently been introduced in the business discipline to study service phenomena - one that has significant cross-disciplinary implications for the research and design of IT-enabled service innovations and the attendant service systems.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Concepts and methods in understanding and anticipating customer needs, involving customers in business and service innovation processes, earning models, resources, stakeholders, service recovery approaches, testing and prototyping services, integration with existing service portfolios, service interaction, etc.
* Software and technology in business and service innovation
* Managing the service innovation process, innovative culture and leadership, enhancement of creativity
* Cases of innovation in different service industries: industrial service, creative industries, travel and leisure, public service, IT-services, banking etc.
* Education in business and service innovation and design
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Empowering & Enabling Technologies
Enabling technologies in Business Informatics integrate management practices with Informatics and Information Technologies. Business Informatics tasks may be performed, supported or monitored by automated or semi-automated technologies. Running environments range from thin mobile clients to large-scale distributed platforms, and newer areas such as analytics services, big data. Accordingly, we seek papers for original and innovative empowering and enabling technologies in domains related to Business Informatics.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Business (Big) Data and Knowledge Integration, Management and Mining
* Information Retrieval and Information Filtering
* Recommender Systems
* Tools for ensuring and monitoring Security, Privacy, Trust and Risk in Business Informatics tasks
* Support of users and communities in Business environments, specialized Human Computer Interaction
* Technology support for Electronic Business and Electronic Commerce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Social & Frontier Technologies
New technologies such as M2M and social networks present a new frontier for business. This presents a reverse paradigm from the traditional model of using IT support for existing business to building business for the new technology. BI needs a new perspective on how to identify business opportunity, business model, business support around some new technologies, e.g. data broker for smart meters, context-driven business, etc. for next generation cloud-based companies like Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* Social networks
* Social computing
* Mobile computing
* Machine-to-Machine communications (M2M)
* Smarter planet
* Digital Economics and Market Theory
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Data-Driven Service and Market Engineering
Economic problems faced by today's organizations as well as society as a whole demand interdisciplinary knowledge from economics, management and informatics. Thus, economic modeling of IT-based solutions for analytically and statistically formulated economic problems is subject to this track. In particular, we are interested in the intelligent reduction of problem-relevant features from vast datasets Including customer dynamics, market behavior, resource usage, etc. Accordingly, we aim for research at the interface of economic theories, game theory, advanced analytics, prediction, and computational methods to solve managerial decisions and planning problems.
Specific (not limitative) topics:
* e-Market place design
* Negotiations and contracting
* Tariffs, pricing, and profits
* Dynamic resource allocation
* Behavioral pattern
* Technology adoption and diffusion
* Productivity and business value of IT and data
* Data Science and advanced analytics
* Prediction and Causal Forecasting
* Smart measurements and collaborative monitoring
