Second Call for Papers: Workshop on Social Media Processing (SocMP)
============================================================
Held in Conjunction with ACM HPDC'12, Delft, the Netherlands, June 18/19, 2012.
Workshop Theme
User-generated social media such as blogs, podcasts, shared photos and videos, wikis, online gaming communities and online social networks have grown to over half a billion users today. To exploit the massive amount of social data exposed by such systems requires not only social network analysis, but also large-scale image processing, video encoding, generic information retrieval and management, knowledge mining and discovery, building and matching user profiles for web advertising, etc. Processing information about a world-wide, loosely-connected network of social media users poses a diverse set of challenges, ranging from traditional high-performance distributed computing topics (e.g., scalability, elasticity, reliability) to domain-specific processing (e.g., methods for big data analytics and graph mining at scale.)
The First Workshop on Social Media Processing (SocMP'12) solicits papers that address the data management and processing challenges raised by running and mining large-scale social media platforms from a systems and infrastructure-oriented perspective. The workshop will be co-located with ACM/IEEE HPDC [ http://www.hpdc.org/2012/ ] and will take place in June 2012 in Delft, The Netherlands. SocMP'12 will bring together researchers and practitioners in discussing and creating new knowledge about the social media infrastructure and methods of the future.

Submissions must be uploaded by March 12, 2012 and they must be in
either MS doc or pdf formats (about 7 pages including all figures,
tables, and references - single space, font size of 10 to 12). All
reasonable typesetting formats are acceptable (later, the authors of
accepted papers will be asked to follow a particular typesetting format
to prepare their final papers for publication.) Papers must not have
been previously published or currently submitted for publication
elsewhere. The first page of the paper should include: title of the
paper, name, affiliation, postal address, and email address for each
author. The first page should also identify the name of the Contact Author
and a maximum of 5 topical keywords that would best represent the content
of the paper. The name of the conference (ie, SAM) that the paper is
being submitted for consideration must be stated on the first page of the
paper as well as a 100 to 150-word abstract. The length of the final
Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to 7 (two-column IEEE

Each paper will be peer-reviewed by two experts in the field for originality,
significance, clarity, impact, and soundness. In cases of contradictory
recommendations, a member of the conference program committee will be
charged to make the final decision (accept/reject); often, this would involve
seeking help from additional referees by using a double-blinded review
process. In addition, all papers whose authors include a member of the
conference program committee will be evaluated using the double-blinded
review process. (Essay/philosophical papers will not be refereed but may be
considered for discussion/panels).
Authors whose papers are accepted will be instructed to upload their papers
to a particular web site for publication - the uploaded papers to the
publication web site will only be checked for correct typesetting. At this
point, authors will be required to attest to the originality of their work
(ie, declaring that no part of the work is plagiarized and the paper does not
suffer from any acts of plagiarism.)
Proceedings of SAM will be published in printed conference books (ISBN) and
will also be made available online. The proceedings will be indexed in
science citation databases that track citation frequency/data for each
published paper (science citation databases such as: Inspec / IET / The
Institute for Engineering& Technology; The French National Center for
Scientific Research, CNRS, INIST databases, PASCAL (covers the core
scientific literature in Science; about 90% of inclusions are journals;
only about 9% are proceedings; worldcomp tracks are selected to be among
the 9% - accessable from INIST, Datastar, Dialog, EBSCO, OVID, Questel.Orbit,
Qwam, and STN International); and others. Though, there is no guarantee that
the proceedings will also be included in EI Compendex/Elsevier indexings,
in the past, the proceedings in which SAM was part of were included in
these databases. Therefore, we will also be sending the proceedings for
indexing procedures to EI Compendex/Elsevier. The printed proceedings/books
will be available for distribution on site at the conference.
In addition to the publication of the proceedings, selected authors will be
invited to submit extended versions of their papers for publication in a
number of research books contracted with various publishers - these books
will be composed after the conference. Also, many chairs of tracks will be
forming journal special issues to be published after the conference.
SUBMISSION OF POSTER PAPERS:
Poster papers can be 2 pages long. Authors are to follow the same instructions
that appear above (see, SUBMISSION OF REGULAR PAPERS) except for the submission
is limited to 2 pages. On the first page, the author should state that "This
paper is being submitted as a poster". Poster papers (if accepted) will be
published if and only the author of the accepted paper wishes to do so.

An important mission of WORLDCOMP is "Providing a unique platform for
a diverse community of constituents composed of scholars, researchers,
developers, educators, and practitioners. The Congress makes concerted
effort to reach out to participants affiliated with diverse entities
(such as: universities, institutions, corporations, government agencies,
and research centers/labs) from all over the world. The congress also
attempts to connect participants from institutions that have teaching as
their main mission with those who are affiliated with institutions that
have research as their main mission. The congress uses a quota system to
achieve its institution and geography diversity objectives."
One main goal of the congress is to assemble a spectrum of affiliated
research conferences, workshops, and symposiums into a coordinated
research meeting held in a common place at a common time. This model
facilitates communication among researchers in different fields of

Given the current turbulent state of world economy,
outsourcing is coming under tremendous pressure. Companies
are no longer providing long-term contracts but are renewing
them based on deliverables from outsourced companies. This
is putting tremendous pressure on teams to deliver quality
product on time. Team adaptability and team configuration
are becoming crucial to meet deadlines. Teams must be able
to adapt quickly to the changing environment. Agile teams
adapt and deliver quickly and provide maximum customer
satisfaction. By definition, however, agile teams must be
co-located. Can distributed teams be agile and adaptable?
This requires careful team configuration. This mini-track
examines the emerging issues related to team configuration
and performance in distributed environment. Some research
related to outsourcing of structured tasks has been done,
but research related to emerging issues like diversity,
cohesiveness, agility and adaptability related to group
collaboration across semi or unstructured tasks is still
emerging. In addition, the "e (Internet)" to "m (mobile)"
transformation is creating exciting opportunities for groups
to make real time decisions in a mobile environment.
Distributed teams, however, face many challenges of time,
location, infrastructure, language, customs, socialization
and politics. This is further compounded in globally
distributed teams by diversity, nationality and cultural
issues. As old issue are resolved, new challenges emerge
that require knowledge from multiple disciplines such as
information systems, social sciences, international
management, leadership and political science. It is almost
impossible for one individual to have expertise in so many
domains, which makes this a very challenging but ultimately
rewarding collaborative area of research. Given the richness
and research potential of this area, it is essential to
brainstorm and bring diverse points of view to develop
underlying theory and frameworks. The mini track will
attempt to accomplish these objectives.
The mini track will address emerging issue such as
diversity, culture, adaptability and agility related to
teams in distributed group decision making, as well as the
underlying theories of group dynamics, coordination,
communications and decision-making in distributed
environments, in creation of competitive advantage. Examples
of topics in the discussion of globally distributed decision
making mini-track will include the following (but are not
limited to):
·Framework for distributed decision making in the cloud.
·Economics of distributed decision making in the clouds
·Trust and distrust as motivator in distributed decision making
·Can agile teams be globally distributed?
·Tsunami disaster relief planning through collaboration
·Agile/Adaptable team configuration in globally distributed
teams
·The "e (internet)" to "m (mobile)" transformation of
globally distributed teams
·Communication and coordination in globally distributed teams
·Diversity issues in globally distributed teams
·Customer satisfaction, performance and "trust" building in
globally distributed teams
·Synchronous and asynchronous decision making in globally
distributed teams
·Comparison of issues across internal, inter-, intra and
offshore distributed teams
·Turbulent economy and its impact on outsourcing
·Models of globally distributed agile/adaptable teams
·Knowledge creation, transfer and integration across
globally distributed teams
·Leadership/cohesiveness issues in globally distributed teams
·Issues related to functional and dysfunctional globally
distributed teams
·Security, privacy and risk associated with globally
distributed teams
·Case Studies (success/failures) related to decision making
by globally distributed teams

*International Conference on
Learning and Administration in Higher Education*
http://ICLAHE.org
(Click above link for full conference information)**
We encourage the submission of full papers, and abstracts to
any of the following tracks:
*Learning Track*
This track is not limited to just pedagogical research but
also includes papers that share experiences and viewpoints
on the state of learning/teaching in higher education today
and tomorrow. We believe that much of the learning process
is not discipline specific and that we can all benefit from
looking at research and practices outside our own
discipline. Too often in higher education, expertise in a
field of study is assumed to automatically translate into
the ability to help students learn that field of study.
The ideal submission would take a general focus on learning
rather than a discipline-specific perspective. For example,
instead of focusing on Motivating Students in Group Projects
in a specific course, you might broaden the perspective to
Motivating Students in Group Projects in Upper Division
Courses or simply Motivating Students in Group Projects. The
objective here is to share your work with the larger audience.
Typical topics have included using qualitative measures and
assignments in a quantitative course, importance of
prerequisites, internships, service learning,
student/faculty feedback, team issues, online and hybrid
courses, academic honesty, ethics in IS, can ethics be
taught, Forsyth's ethics position, learning styles,
effective use of technology, experiential learning, etc.
*Academic Administration Track*
We believe that many of the challenges facing academic
departments are not discipline specific and that learning
how other departments address these challenges will be
beneficial. Typical topics have been accreditation, faculty
moral, faculty productivity, how to make the transition from
faculty to administration and back again, meeting external
standards, optimizing course schedules, caught in the middle
between higher administration and faculty, IS in academic
administration, ethics in scholarship, etc.
______________________________________________________________________________
*INFORMATION APPLICABLE TO BOTH CONFERENCES*
*Participation:*
If you are interested in moderating a session or reviewing
submitted papers, contact Dr. Edd R. Joyner (Conference
Chair) at eddjoyner(a)awoic.org Please indicate the broadest
academic areas you feel comfortable reviewing.
*Review Process:*
All papers will be blind reviewed by three or more peer
reviewers. Authors will normally be notified of the status
of their papers within 2-weeks of submission. Accepted
articles will be published in the refereed conference
proceedings. Papers receiving Best Paper awards will be
published in one of our Journals (See below.)
*Abstracts:*
While only full papers are eligible for publications in the
Journals listed below, Abstracts are welcome for
presentation at the conference.
*Journals Associated with the Conferences: *
The best papers, as rated by reviewers, will be published
(subject to possible revision to meet publication standards)

Call for Minitrack Papers: Information Issues in Supply Chain and in
Service System Design
(Part of the Organizational Systems and Technology Track, HICSS 46)
We invite you to submit papers for the Information Issues in Supply
Chain and in Service System Design minitrack at HICSS, January 7-10,
2013. The conference will be held on Maui, Hawaii.
We invite state-of-art empirical, theoretical, experimental, and
simulation research along with rigorous case studies exploring the
increasing complex roles that information systems now play in the design
of successful operations at many supply chain and service systems. We
are also soliciting comprehensive reviews of relevant research, and
applications highlighting the use of new technologies, methods, and
techniques. In particular, we want to systematically explore the complex
interplay between business process designs, technology, organizational
architectures, and information sharing. There is a growing body of
research within the economics, marketing, operations management,
information systems, and healthcare communities which are starting to
address those issues. We expect to see applications analyzing enterprise
resource allocation, call center management, capacity planning, revenue
management, scheduling, inventory management, and global coordination of
supply chains, logistical operations, dynamic pricing, contingent
contracting, and the impact of information asymmetry across market
agents. Thus the track is open to a wide range of content areas that
lend themselves to the analysis of information issues in Supply Chain
and Service System Design.
Selected papers from the minitrack will be fast tracked to the special
issue of DSS.
Important Dates:
