Summary
-------
This full-day workshop focuses on the practical and theoretical consequences of
the approach to describe business interactions within the framework of protocol
theory.
Content
-------
The relevance of software directly involved in business interactions has
enormously grown in modern commerce within the last years.
Therefore, it is an obvious requirement that business software which supports
business interactions should mirror the orientation of entrepreneurial acting
along the business interactions in the simplest possible way.
To become runtime relevant from an application perspective, the interpretation
of the descriptions of business interactions has to be unambiguously related to
computational systems.
We expect a promising impetus with respect to the automated implementation of
business interactions. Especially small and medium enterprises should benefit
as they are currently discouraged to explore this area by the still high
initial investments.
The starting point of this workshop is the assumption that economics with its
game theory based notion describes the same interactions as computer science
does with its descriptions of nondeterministic interactions of business
processes. Due to the tight formal relation between (economic) game and
(computer science) protocol, it is obvious to use the protocol notion not just
for informal illustrations, as many contemporary approaches do, but also to
view protocol theory as a sound formal base for the description of business
interactions in the sense of a theory for consistent finite interaction of
(possibly finite) systems.

This workshop brings together scientist of the field of business informatics
with a special interest in business interactions and scientist of the more
theoretical oriented field of protocol theory. We therefore invite scientific
contributions which demonstrate the relevance of protocol theory for the
formal description of nondeterministic business interactions either in
practical or theoretical respect, if applicable with a relation to game theory.

you are invited to submit papers for the 5th International Workshop on
Event-Driven Business Process Management to be held alongside the Busines
Process Management Conference on August 29th 2011 in Clermont-Ferrand,
France
<Event-Driven Business Process Management> (EDBPM) is an enhancement of
Business Process Management (BPM) by new concepts of Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA), Event Driven Architecture (EDA), Software as a Service
(SaaS), Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) and Complex Event Processing
(CEP). In this context, BPM means a software platform which provides
companies the ability to model, manage, and optimize these processes for
significant gain. As an independent system, CEP is a parallel running
platform that analyses and processes events. The BPM- and the CEP-platform
correspond via events which are produced by the BPM-workflow engine and by
the - if distributed -- IT services which are associated with the business
process steps. Also events coming from different event sources in different
forms can trigger a business process or influence the execution of the
process or a service, which can result in another event. Even more, the
correlation of these events in a particular context can be treated as a
complex, business level event, relevant for the execution of other business
processes or services closing the loop of insight-to-action. A business
process - arbitrarily fine or coarse grained - can be seen as a service
again and can be "choreographed" with other business processes or services,
even between different enterprises and organisations.
Loosely coupled event-driven architecture for BPM provides important
benefits:
. Responsiveness. Events can occur at any time from any source and processes
respond to them immediately, whenever they happen and wherever they happen.
. Agility. New processes can be modeled, implemented, deployed, and
optimized more quickly in response to changing business requirements.
. Flexibility. Processes can span heterogeneous platforms and programming
languages. Participating applications can be upgraded or changed without
breaking the process model.
TOPICS
Authors are invited to submit novel contributions in the above mentioned
problem domain. Specifically, the relevant topics include, but are not
limited to:
. Event-driven BPM: Concepts
e.g. role of event processing in BPM, business events: types and
representation, vent stream processing in business processes, process event
processing in CEP, data- and event-driven business processes, event and
process interaction patterns
. Design-time CEP and BPM
e.g. modelling modelling events in human-oriented tasks,
semantics/ontologies for event-driven BPM, BPMN and event processing,
interaction modelling of process model and event processing network.
. Run-time CEP and BPM
e.g. event pattern detection, BPEL and event processing, reasoning about
unknown/ similar events
. Applications/ Use use cases for event-driven BPM
e.g. event-driven monitoring/ BAM , event-driven SLA monitoring,
context-aware BPM
The Workshop is planned as a full-day event, including a keynote, paper
presentations, lightning talks, demos, posters, and a moderated, open
discussion with the clear goal of agreeing upon a research roadmap for
event-driven Business Process Management research, by taking into account
new challenges, described earlier.
SUBMISSION
The following types of submission are solicited:
. Long paper submissions, describing substantial contributions of novel
ongoing work. Long papers should be at most 12 pages long.
. Short paper submissions, describing work in progress. These papers should
be at most 6 pages long.
. Use case submissions, describing results from an edBPM use case. These
papers should be at most 4 pages long.
Papers should be submitted in the new LNBIP format
(http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-487211-0). Papers have
to present original research contributions not concurrently submitted
elsewhere. The title page must contain a short abstract, a classification of
the topics covered, preferably using the list of topics above, and an
indication of the submission category (Long Paper/ Short Paper / Use case).
Papers can be uploaded via the workshop page on easychair, the address can

Papers will be published in the postconference proceeding (Springer Verlag)

WWW has been driving global information integration. In spite of the many applications in all domains of our societies: e-business, e-commerce, e-learning, e-science, and e-government, for instance, as well as the tremendous advances by engineers and scientists, the seamless integration of information and services remains a major challenge. The current shared vision for the future is one of semantically rich information and service oriented architectures for global information systems. This vision is at the convergence of progress in technologies such as XML, Web services, RDF, OWL, of multimedia, multimodal, and multilingual information retrieval, and of distributed, mobile and ubiquitous computing. iiWAS2011 is the 13th in the series of the highly successful International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based Applications& Systems. Recently, iiWAS has been held in Paris (2010), Kuala Lumpur (2009), and Linz (2008). This year Vietnam will host iiWAS2011. The iiWAS conference series have provided opportunities to researchers, graduate students, and industry practitioners to address recent research results and current industry practices in the area of information integration and web-based applications.
We invite two types of submissions: Full Technical Papers and Short Position Papers. A Full Paper should provide solid conceptual and theoretical foundation and substantial support for its results and conclusions as a significant contribution to the field. We are living in an information-rich digital age full of
wondrous power, capabilities, and possibilities of emerging
technologies. Web 2.0 technologies, characterized by
participatory information sharing and collaboration and
users generating content and creating knowledge in virtual
communities, have opened our eyes to a new /open
world/(Bonk, 2009). Examples of web 2.0 include social
networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, virtual
worlds, and digital object repositories. These emerging
technologies have provided us numerous possibilities for
learning and instruction and for creating engaging and
optimal learning opportunities and alternative and
innovative instructional experiences for K-12 education,
higher education, corporate, government, and military
training. The world has entered into what Bonk (2009)
describes as “We-All-Learn” trends, which encourage open
participation and compel educators to reflect on learning
and instruction from a new perspective. Learners are no
longer passive information recipients, whose role is to
memorize or consume information, but rather active
participants, whose role is to direct their own learning,
construct and create knowledge, and contribute to a virtual
community; whereas teachers are guides, coaches, and mentors
to facilitate learning.
However, the potentials of the emerging web 2.0 technologies
have not been fully recognized and tapped. Often we find
online instruction simply duplication of face-to-face
lectures, in which technology is simply an appendage to
education instead of playing a more central and transforming
role. Many instructors have not changed their mindset to
accommodate the participatory culture and the new paradigm
of learning and instruction; and little has been done beyond
posting syllabi, assignments, and grading to a learning
management system or a web site that is supposed to be used
for collaborative learning. It is argued that new
technologies not only make us more productive, but also help
us become more reflective and creative.Most importantly,
technologies have afforded us with tools to accomplish goals
we would have not been able to without them. As early as in
the 80s, Pea (1985) argued that technology should not only
be used to amplify our thinking but also to reorganize our
mental functioning. Therefore, we are prompted to fully take
advantage of web 2.0 affordances to develop innovative
learning environments and build virtual learning communities
that will motivate and engage learners meaningfully and
interactively in their learning experiences and focus on
developing the 21st century skills that emphasize
innovation, creativity, communication, collaboration,
critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving.
Yet, using emerging technologies to build a virtual learning
community (VLC) is a multifaceted innovation. It not only
involves the use of new technologies, but also new method of
learning and new ways of thinking of learning and
instruction. It presents multiple levels of challenges to
both learners and instructors. Subsequently, there are many
issues awaiting to be examined, studied, and addressed,
including learners’ perceptions, motivation and identity
when participating in a VLC, strategies and methods of
designing, building, managing, and evaluating a VLC to
develop students critical thinking, problem solving, and
creativity, and teachers’ beliefs about participatory
culture of a virtual learning environment.
This special issue of the KM&EL international journal is
dedicated to the building of VLCs using emerging
technologies. In this special issue, a VLC is defined as
both informal, such as one that supports ongoing
professional development, and formal, such as one as found
in a formal course setting that lasts a semester. In this
call, we invite manuscripts that report empirical studies
(both quantitative and qualitative studies) of investigating
issues and challenges related to the building of a VLC, the
use or design of tools scaffold the growth of a VLC, and
methods and efforts to create, build, manage, sustain and
evaluate a VLC. In addition, this special issue welcomes
manuscripts discussing conceptual frameworks or theoretical
constructs related to VLC building.

Introduction
Computers are now available anytime, anywhere, by different means,
and distributed unobtrusively throughout the everyday environments
in which physical objects/artifacts embedded with invisible computers
are sensible and networked locally and globally. Such "any" computers
open tremendous opportunities to provide numerous novel
services/applications in both real world and cyber spaces, and exist
ubiquitously in our daily life, working, learning, traveling,
entertainment, medicine, etc. Although it is yet unclear what exactly
the real-cyber integrated worlds would be, there is no doubt that they must
be safe.
The 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Ubisafe Computing (UbiSafe-11)
will be held in conjunction with "The 10th IEEE International Conference
on Trust, Security and Privacy in Computing and Communications (IEEE
TrustCom-11)".
It follows the success of UbiSafe-09 in Chengdu, China. It aims at bringing
together
researchers and practitioners in the world working on theories and
technologies for
ubiquitous artifacts to function safely for different purposes; for
ubiquitous
systems to work safely in various situations; and for ubiquitous
environments to
behave safely with all people.
Scope and Interests
IEEE UbiSafe-11 is an international symposium for presenting and discussing
emerging
ideas and trends in aspects of UbiSafe computing, but are not limited to:
(1) Fundamentals
UbiSafe concepts, definitions, basic elements, models, frameworks and
methodologies,
human-centric paradigms,
multi-disciplinary/inter-disciplinary/trans-disciplinary
approaches, semantics, ontologies, UbiSafe requirements and formal
specifications
and validations, information assurance, etc.
(2) Technologies
Security and privacy protection, reliability and fault tolerance, risk
analysis,
uncertainty and exception handling, socially intelligent agents,
intuitive/natural
user interface, interaction design, context-awareness, intelligent
computing,
service-oriented computing, hardware, software, middleware, etc.
(3) Systems
Embedded systems, wearable systems, augmented systems, context-based
systems,
communication systems, safety-critical systems, survivable systems,
persistent
systems, autonomous/autonomic systems, proactive systems, network
infrastructure,
sensor networks, etc.
(4) Applications
Smart objects, smart environments, information appliance and artifacts,
everyday gadgets, robots, safety care, healthcare, medical care and
services,
working, learning, traveling, entertainment, case studies, etc.
(5) Measures and Assessments
UbiSafe attributes and measures for safety, trust, faith, amenity, easiness,
comfort, satisfaction and worryness, UbiSafe levels and relations, UbiSafe
quality,
assessment criteria and authority, subjective and objective assessment
standards,
evaluation methodologies, testing, measuring and monitoring tools, etc.
(6) Human Factors and Social Issues
Human and social aspects of UbiSafe, UbiSafe sources and factors, social
rules,
regulations and laws, human factors, human behavior analysis, modeling of
human
feelings, traditional and cultural issues, ethical issues, etc.
Submission and Publication Information
The accepted papers from this symposium will be published by IEEE Computer
Society
in IEEE TrustCom-11 conference proceedings (indexed by EI Compendex and
ISTP).
Papers should be written in English conforming to the IEEE conference
proceedings
format (8.5" x 11", Two-Column). Papers should be submitted through the
paper
submission system at the symposium website. Each paper is limited to 6 pages
(or 10 pages with the over length charge). Distinguished papers, after
further
revisions, will be invited for possible publication in special issues of
prestige
international journals indexed by SCI and EI (pending). Submitting a paper
to
the symposium means that, if the paper is accepted, at least one author
should
attend the symposium and present the paper. For no-show authors, their
papers
will be removed from the digital library after the symposium and their
affiliations
will be notified.
