Proceedings published in
Springer Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing
(LNBIP)
===================================================================
Motivation
----------
Modern enterprises face a strong economical pressure to increase competitiveness, to operate on a global market, and to engage in alliances of several kinds. But the vast majority of strategic initiatives in enterprises fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain success from their strategy. Abundant research indicates that the key reason for strategic failures is the lack of coherence and consistency among the various components of an enterprise. At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and integrated whole is becoming increasingly important. These challenges are dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial perspective, as advocated by management and organization science. Such knowledge is necessary and sufficient for managing an enterprise, but it is inadequate for bringing about changes. To do that, one needs to take a constructional or engineering perspective. Both organizations and software systems are complex and prone to entropy. This means that in the course of time, the costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that is known as combinatorial explosion. Regarding (automated) information systems, this has been demonstrated; regarding organizations, it is still a conjecture. Entropy can be reduced and managed effectively through modular design based on atomic elements. The people in an enterprise are collectively responsible for the operation (including management) of the enterprise. In addition, they are collectively responsible for the evolution of the enterprise (adapting to needs for change). These responsibilities can only be borne if one has appropriate knowledge of the enterprise.
Focus and Goal
--------------
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference is the first working conference in the emerging field of Enterprise Engineering with the goal to gather academics and practitioners in order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences, and to facilitate profound discussions about challenges mentioned above. Addressing these challenges requires a paradigm shift. It is the mission of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering to develop new, appropriate theories, models, methods and other artifacts for the analysis, design, implementation, and governance of enterprises by combining (relevant parts of) management and organization science, information systems science, and computer science. The ambition is to address (all) traditional topics in said disciplines from the Enterprise Engineering Paradigm. The result of the efforts should be theoretically rigorous and practically relevant.
Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Enterprise Ontology
* Enterprise Architecture
* Enterprise Governance
* Modeling (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Reference models for (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Domain reference ontologies
* Business rules
* Information systems development
* Information system ontologies
* Information system architectures
* Component-based system development
* Ontology-based web services
* Interoperability testing and verification
* Service Oriented Architecture
* Enterprise modeling and simulation
* Organizational modeling and simulation
* Business process modeling and simulation
* Collaborative, Participative, and Interactive Modeling
Organization of the Workshop
----------------------------
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference arises out of a series of successful workshops (CIAO!'10, CIAO!'09, CIAO!'08, MIOS-CIAO'06, MIOS-INTEROP'05, MIOS'04) held at the DESRIST, CAiSE and OTM Federated conferences so far.
We are looking for articles on current or recently finished research projects as well as articles from practitioners. Based on our inspiring experience of the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 workshops, the Enterprise Engineering Working Conference is planned to be a real working conference, providing ample time for profound discussions during two days.
The focus of discussion will be on the emerging discipline of enterprise engineering, in particular according to the Enterprise Engineering Manifesto (www.ciaonetwork.org/publications/EEManifesto.pdf).
Publication
-----------
The EEWC proceedings will be published in the Springer LNBIP series "Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing".
The authors of the best papers will be invited to submit an extended version of the paper for possible publication at the International Journal of Information System Modeling and Design (www.igi-global.com/ijism).

Special Session on Collaborative e-Learning Systems - CeLS 2011
The Special Session on Collaborative e-Learning Systems (CeLS) aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working in innovative pedagogical strategies adapted to group-based e-learning. e-learning has become an important business process for corporations, as well as for universities. Despite all the recent activity, models for how people teach and learn online are still immature. Often e-learning systems fail due to the lack of attention and the lack of commitment of the users to maximize the results of the learning process through the software system.
Learning Communities have become a recognized paradigm for solving this problem but some attributes are still overlooked. In particular it is important to realize that in a community there is a measure of commitment to a set of shared values, norms, and meanings and a shared history and identification within a particular culture. Yet, personalization is required in each individual learning process. CeLS encourages authors to submit papers describing original work based on diverse perspectives related to collaborative e-Learning, including methods, techniques, recent advances, applications and tools.
Special Session on Assessment Tools and Techniques for e-Learning - ATTeL 2011
The Special Session on Assessment Tools and Techniques for e-Learning (ATTeL) aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on assessment tools and techniques for e-learning and/or within the context of an LMS. Authors are welcome to submit papers discussing research issues, development problems or use cases of tools including, but not limited to, concept maps, concept tests, knowledge surveys, online exams, presentations in teleconference format for distributed classrooms, portfolios, and other tools. Technology resources such as classroom response systems, real time analysis of student comprehension, e-Portfolios, course assessment, and other technological aspects are also of interest.
The special session will also offer the opportunity to fill the gap between academic researchers, practitioners and industry. ATTeL encourages authors to submit papers describing original work, including methods, techniques, recent advances, applications and tools.
Special Session on Ubiquitous e-Learning - UeL 2011
The Special Session on Ubiquitous e-Learning (UeL) aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners interested in developing the technology and also finding new methodologies and pedagogies for effectively using mobile, ubiquitous e-learning systems in virtual or hybrid learning environments. Communication technology improved dramatically in the last few years leading to opportunities for mobile-learning. Mobile systems are more and more ubiquitous, especially since the advent of smart phones and e-books. Virtual laboratories, e-Learning materials, and even colleagues and tutors can now be accessed from anywhere at any time. However, there are many issues remaining that require attention, such as usability, privacy, ethics, coordination, cost-effective implementation, among others. Authors are encouraged to submit their contributions either showing technological advancements or case studies related to all aspects of e-Learning. This special session provides an opportu!
nity to come up-to-date with state-of-art research, cutting edge technology and development related with ubiquitous systems, virtual labs and e-learning environments in general, in combination with important issues involved in communication, coordination, and their impact on real-world applications of education and training, concerning both technologies and methodologies.

The International Conference on Ambient Systems, Networks and
Technologies (ANT-2011) is a leading international conference which
provides an international forum for researchers, developers and
practitioners from academia, industry, and government to address
research challenges and to present and discuss research ideas,
developments and experiences related to the ambient systems
infrastructure, models, and technologies.
The general aim of ambient systems is to provide an environment
wherein computing devices exist anywhere and everywhere. In such
systems mobile and embedded computing devices form ad hoc
collaboration using different communication networks (e.g., wireless
networks, RFID, etc) in order to share and exchange information and
provide services. Ambient systems pose new research challenges due to
the open and unreliable nature of the environment and the complexity
and heterogeneity of the computing devices and the underlying
communication networks. These characteristics challenge traditional
techniques and demand new ways of approaching the problems related to
the ambient systems.

a successful AMCIS and SIGSAND component since 2003, the mini-track
provides a forum for researchers, educators, and practitioners working
in the areas of systems analysis and design, method engineering, and
modeling language development, use, modification, and assessment. This
mini-track also serves as an outlet for studies in theory development,
design science, and behavioral science. An objective is to work toward a
more standardized set of concepts which would in turn benefit
researchers, educators, and practitioners in this field. In that light
we welcome both technical and empirical pieces, and are open to all
aspect of research methods (e.g., survey, experimentation, case studies,
action research, etc.).

Enabled by the recent advances in web services, business process
automation, and service-oriented architectures, organizations around the
world have embarked on the development of the next-generation enterprise
infrastructures, referred to by some as "Service-Oriented Enterprises".
Essentially, service-oriented enterprises are organizations that take
advantage of service-oriented computing to support agile enterprises.
Currently, there are many open research issues on the analysis and
design for the service-oriented enterprises that need attention from the
MIS community. This minitrack provides a forum for researchers and
practitioners who are interested in presenting their work in this area.
*Contemporary Issues in Agile Development *
*Chairs:Nridhar Nerur **snerur(a)uta.edu* <mailto:snerur@uta.edu>**
*RadhaKanta Mahapatra **mahapatra(a)uta.edu* <mailto:mahapatra@uta.edu>**
*VenuGopal Balijepally **vebalijepally(a)pvamu.edu*
<mailto:vebalijepally@pvamu.edu>**
Agile methodologies have gained increased acceptance among software
developers and its acceptance brings to the fore a number of new
research issues. These include adoption and post-adoption experiences
with agile, agile project management, social aspects of agile
development, distributed agile development, scalability of agile
methodologies, and enterprise agility, to name but a few. The term
“agility” has now assumed a broader meaning, extending its context and
implications beyond software development to the overall organizational
climate. The growing popularity of agile principles and practices
affords IS scholars opportunities to study these and many more research
issues. This mini-track will provide a forum for researchers to address
fundamental issues in agile development and to explore contemporary
issues raised by the widespread acceptance of agile methodologies.
*User Involvement in Systems Development and Implementation*
*Chairs:Roland Weistroffer **hrweistr(a)vcu.edu* <mailto:hrweistr@vcu.edu>**
*Angela Mattia **amattia(a)ju.edu* <mailto:amattia@ju.edu>**
User involvement in information systems (IS) development and
implementation is generally considered essential for a successful
development process and outcome. However, research on the impact of user
participation or involvement on system success has been mixed. It has
also been proposed that perhaps, rather than looking at user
participation or involvement in development, it would be more useful to
look at project collaboration in the improvement of technology reliant
work systems. The objective of this mini-track is to provide a forum for
scholars to re-examine the theoretical and practical issues related to
user participation, stakeholder involvement, and project collaboration
in systems development.
*Business Process Management and Innovation*
*Chairs:Amit V. Deokar**amit.Deokar(a)dsu.edu* <mailto:amit.Deokar@dsu.edu>**
*Michael zur Muehlen **Michael.zurMuehlen(a)stevens.edu*
<mailto:Michael.zurMuehlen@stevens.edu>**
*Marta Indulska **M.Indulska(a)business.uq.edu.au*
<mailto:M.Indulska@business.uq.edu.au>**
Business Process Management (BPM) can be defined as methods and tools
surrounding the definition, implementation, and improvement of lateral
processes in organizations. As BPM continues to gain importance in
today’s organization, an increasing number of studies detail efficiency,
effectiveness and agility improvements resulting from process management
initiatives This mini- track seeks contributions that discuss the
management of business processes as well as technologies for process
automation. We encourage submissions from both a managerial as well as a
technical perspective.

The United Kingdom Academy for Information Systems (UKAIS) arose from a
meeting in 1993 of leading UK academics in Information Systems. Concerns
were expressed at the meeting about the way IS teaching and research
were funded. The concerns stemmed from a lack of recognition of IS as a
growing and important academic discipline. UKAIS was established in 1994
to remedy this situation. It is a charity, whose aims are to provide a
better knowledge of IS within the UK and to provide a forum for
discussing issues in IS teaching and research. Since this first meeting
in 1993, UKAIS has recognised the importance of including practitioners
into its remit.
The UKAIS conference is the premiere academic event in the Information
Systems calendar within the UK and attracts leading academics and
researchers from the UK and overseas.
This year's conference will once again be held in the beautiful city of
Oxford, and will bring together academics, researchers and practitioners
