CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS
Proposal Submission Deadline: April 30, 2010
Information Systems for Global Financial Markets: Emerging Developments and Effects
A book edited by Dr. Alexander Yap
Elon University, Elon, North Carolina, USA
Introduction
Financial markets around the world can affect each other in merely a matter of seconds as financial information systems are programmed to buy or sell stocks and financial derivatives automatically when activated by sudden changes in global market trends and conditions. Information systems are highly critical in managing the trade of stocks, options, futures, forex, metals and other commodities. Because of these systems, volatile movements in one major financial market (NYSE, Nikkei) can have drastic effects on the global prices of financial instruments. There are also financial information systems that serve as intelligent systems, expert systems, and knowledge-base systems, providing algorithms and tactical information for predicting price movements and providing decision-support for traders and investors. Several fund managers, hedge funds, and individual traders depend on these systems daily. Trillions of dollars go through global financial trading systems, and yet not eno
ugh academic research has been devoted to information systems for financial markets.
Objective of the Book
The vision for creating this body of research in one book is to take a much deeper look inside the systems and technologies that (1) provide intelligence and expertise to traders and investors, and (2) facilitate the agile ordering processes, networking, and regulation of global financial electronic markets. How these systems work to manipulate, move, and provide intelligence to the stock market is still a mystery to many students, and it is the intent of this book to provide real-world cases and examples that can unveil these systems to business students interested in financial trading, the dynamics of financial electronic markets, and the tactical technologies that facilitate the trading process and trading decisions. There is a growing demand for IT jobs in the financial sector, making this body of research very timely for university students.
Target Audience
This book is essential to both information systems and finance students and practitioners, who are looking forward to a profession that deals with technology-enabled systems in the finance sector. Several universities have their own finance trading room, where students enrolled in some courses are asked to manage stock portfolios using these systems. In such context, this book is an ideal reference or supplement for courses that deal with stock trading and investments using trading technologies. IS students, practitioners, and faculty are also beginning to realize that the Finance sector is a sector that information systems graduates can work with due to the increasing demand for technical skills in this sector. Likewise, students of finance are aware that information systems are critical and necessary tools in their discipline as well.

Call for papers JOCI
Co-creation of technology. Innovation by communities.
Editors: Susana Finquelievich and Mariana Salgado
In the last decades studies and experience have shown that users matter
in regards to technological innovation. Books such as "The
Co-Construction of Users and Technology ", analyzes the creative
capacity of users to shape technology in all phases, from design to
implementation. Lately, citizen´s labs are also trying to integrate
individuals and communities to technological innovation. They try to
combine the old "collaboratory" concept launched in the 1990s in
academic environments, or virtual laboratories, where scientists
collaborate though networking, with the concept of citizens´networks, in
which citizens collaborate in a digital environment for various uses,
and that, according to the Spanish antropologist Artur Serra, have
become freshly popular through social networks such as Facebook otr
Twitter.
Individuals, groups and community have actively participated in the
process of technological innovation and are increasingly aware of their
capacity for making and changing technologies. Internet - based social
networks, open source software, content creation, redesign by use,
citizens´participation in living labs, are just a few examples of people
actively enlarging the original uses of information and communication
technologies (ICT).
The goal of this special issue is to examine, using a variety of
multidisciplinary approaches, the mutual interaction between ICT and
users. The authors are welcome to reflect on the hypothesis that any
understanding of users must take into consideration the multiplicity of
roles they play, and that the conventional distinction between users and
producers is mainly formal and artificial.
Contributing knolwledge about the process in which individuals and
communities appropriate and makes information and communication
technology functional for their own specific purposes is the goal of
this special issue of JOCI. The objective is to advance on the subject
of how communities utilize technology, meanwhile creating innovative
uses. The papers should consider how users consume, modify, domesticate,
design, reconfigure, and resist technological development, as well as in
which ways users are changed by ICT.
Some of the key issues to be reflected upon are:
- Case studies about technology appropriation and modification of ICT
changes by communities.
- Alternative-use hunters: analysis of the processes through which
experts perceive the changes by communities or individuals and
incorporate them into the goods or services.
- Citizens´labs, living labs
- Theoretical contributions about these processes.
Abtracts details
500 word abstracts of submissions to this special issue (both academic
papers and field notes) should be sent to sfinquel(a)gmail.com
<mailto:sfinquel@gmail.com> and mariana.salgado(a)gmail.com
<mailto:mariana.salgado@gmail.com> by May 30, 2010 and include the
author's affiliation and contact information. Full paper submissions are
due by July 1, 2010.
Full Paper Details:
Field notes should be between 500 and 1500 words, written for an
informed but non-technical audience and describing community projects in
progress (project descriptions, technical specifications, etc).
Academic papers should be no longer than 8000 words, and include a 100
word abstract and a 25-word biography of the author including
affiliation and e-mail address. They should analyze or describe a
social, cultural, or economic aspect of community participation in ICT
innovation. The Journal of Community Informatics uses the APA reference
style.

Betreff: [WI] CfP ICIS 2010 Theme Track : Gateway to the Future
Datum: Fri, 16 Apr 2010 14:01:53 +0200
Von: Prof. Dr. M. Jarke <jarke(a)dbis.rwth-aachen.de>
An: wi(a)aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de
Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,
gemeinsam mit Kalle Lyytinen (Case Western University) bin ich in diesem
Jahr für den sog. "Theme Track", dem Haupt-Track der international
führenden Wirtschaftsinformatik-Tagung ICIS 2010 in St. Louis
(13.-15.12.2010) zuständig, der sich mit dem Tagungsmotto "Gateway to
the Future" befasst.
Einreichungen müssen auf dem ICIS-Website bis Mitternacht des 3. Mai
2010 eingereicht sein (keine Chance auf Verlängerungen irgendwelcher
Art!) und den allgemeinen Vorschriften entsprechen, die Sie unter
http://icis2010.aisnet.org/submissions.htm finden.
Matthias Jarke
Kalle Lyytinen

Theme Track (Track 1): GATEWAY TO THE FUTURE
Information technology truly provides a Gateway to the Future in
business, government, and society. After the PC revolution, the business
process movement, the Internet and its transformation from a passive
publication medium to an active and participative platform, it is clear
that information technology plays a central role in shaping the world in
which we live and work. However, a fundamental research question for our
discipline is how the next revolutions in information technology and
business will shape our research and practice in the second decade of
this millennium.
The rate at which information technologies affect change may decrease as
Moore's law finally runs its last pico-meter or it may increase due to
the ongoing financial crisis and new innovations in software and
networking. On the technical side, mobile embedded systems pioneered by,
but not limited to RFID, and network platforms driven by data centers
and software as service models, will accelerate the convergence of
computers, communications, and media. This convergence represents a
major step toward ubiquitous technologies and the meshing of the digital
with the material resulting in new conceptual forms.
On the business side, process innovation and "process pipes" are being
replaced by "innovation at the edge," where inter-organizational
IT-enabled activities reach well beyond automating standard processes
and IT platforms and have become important coordination mechanisms. New
evolutions in social computing and the use of network-based media and
representations continue to change the way people and organizations
interact and the way in which business is conducted.
The goal of this track is to explicate and debate the impacts of these
developments as well as to identify new and emerging trends that have
significant potential to open this Gateway to the Future. We invite bold
analyses and critical reviews of such Gateway and disruptive innovations
that occur at the crossroads between technical, business, and societal
evolution in the next decade.

THEME: The 19th ACM International Conference on Information and
Knowledge
Management (CIKM 2010) will be held from October 26 to 30, 2010 in
Toronto,
Canada. Since 1992, CIKM has established itself as a top-tier and
premier
conference in the areas of information retrieval, knowledge management
and
database, and has successfully brought together leading researchers and
developers from the three communities. The purpose of the conference is
to
identify challenging problems facing the development of future knowledge
and information systems, and to shape future research directions through
the publication of high quality, applied and theoretical research
findings.
In CIKM 2010, we will continue the tradition of promoting collaboration
among multiple areas. We encourage submissions of high quality papers on
all topics in the general areas of databases, information retrieval, and

Betreff: [AISWorld] RefsQ 2010 Call for Posters
Datum: Wed, 14 Apr 2010 22:25:16 +0200
Von: Andreas Gehlert <sse(a)gehlert-online.eu>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
************************ CALL FOR POSTERS *************************
--- RefsQ 2010 ---
The 16th International Working Conference on
Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software
Quality Essen (Germany), June 30 - July 2, 2010
http://www.refsq.org
Poster submission deadline: May 14, 2010 (extended)
*******************************************************************
Since 1994, when the first RefsQ took place, Requirements
Engineering (RE) continued to be a dominant factor influencing the
quality of software, systems and services. The RefsQ working
conference series has now established itself as one of the leading
international forums to discuss RE in its (many) relations to
quality. In 2010 RefsQ will be a stand-alone conference for the
first time, which provides the opportunity for a broader range of
activities such as workshops and posters.
The poster session at the 16th International Working Conference on
Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software Quality provides
an excellent forum to researchers for demonstrating and discussing
research ideas and findings at an early stage. Any requirements
engineering topic is deemed suitable for a poster submission.
POSTER SUBMISSION:
Poster proposals must be submitted as a single PDF file with no
more than 3 pages. The first two pages should contain an abstract
describing the research contents of the poster, along with title,
authors, institutional affiliations and contact information. The
third page should contain a thumbnail version of the poster draft.
Please submit your poster via E-mail to
andreas.gehlert(a)sse.uni-due.de
with the subject line "RefsQ Poster Submission".
IMPORTANT DATES:
The deadline for poster submissions is May 14, 2010. Submissions
will be reviewed and authors will be notified of acceptance by May
21, 2010.
POSTER PRESENTATION:
Posters will be accessible to the RefsQ participants during the
whole event. In addition, authors of accepted poster proposals will
have the opportunity to present their poster during dedicated
poster sessions. To elaborate and discuss the poster's content,
poster authors are expected to be available during the poster
session.
The maximum size for posters is A1 (59 × 84cm; portrait format).
Poster boards will be provided by the RefsQ organizers. The
authors of accepted posters are expected to print the posters and
being them to RefsQ 2010. Posters should be set up on Wednesday,
30th of June between 9am and 11am and will be removed at the end of
the conference.
