Betreff: IEEE DEST 2010 - Special Track Learning Ecosystems: 2nd Call
for Participation
Datum: Tue, 19 Jan 2010 10:42:38 +0100
Von: Mohammad Smadi <msmadi(a)iicm.tu-graz.ac.at>
An: Mohammad Smadi <msmadi(a)iicm.tu-graz.ac.at>
21st century society makes demands in virtually every facet of one's
life. One is expected to keep pace with mutable situations, adapt skills
and expertise, and collaborate and compete to provide to some extent
value for the society. As a result, modern instructional design,
learning goals and processes as well as appropriate learning
environments must support the development of skills and expertises.
Consequently, educational approaches have changed dramatically over time
from remedial repetitive learning to today's learning with an
understanding to become more independent in the learning process,
strengthen meta-cognitive and teamwork skills as well as link knowledge
in a cultural context in view of lifelong learning. Educational
approaches have also been influenced by technology but have also
increasingly applied technology over the last decades.
This complexity of modern learning setups of the 21st century demands
appropriate models and reference architectures which provide support to
(a) communicate the conception of topical learning from different
viewpoints, (b) identify the multidisciplinary relations of research
areas, (c) assess and classify learning approaches and implementations,
and (d) provide domain knowledge for research and development
activities. However, such modern learning settings also require flexible
approaches and technological solutions. E-Learning Ecosystems can
provide both: it offers the foundation for interesting models and
frameworks but it also focuses on modern technology as the
infrastructure for enhanced e-learning environments.

Call for Papers
The 3rd IEEE International Conference on Ubi-media Computing
(U-Media 2010)
http://conference.cs.cityu.edu.hk/umedia2010/
July 5-6, 2010
Zhejiang Normal University, Jinhua, China
Dynamicity in the cyberspace can be modeled as a spatiotemporal suite of
events populated by computing devices arrivals and departures, communication
channels uses, and multimodal interactions. Contemporary ubiquitous devices
unleash the boundary of one-to-one human-computer interaction. It has become
a de facto style of facilitating social events, in which participants use
several distributed devices opportunistically through multimodal adaptive
interaction. How people access multimodal media in different contexts of use
is key to deliver the appropriate interactive systems to humans. Ubi-media
Computing, as it is bravely defined, explores challenging issues on how to
bring together technologies for context adaptation, inter-device
interaction, and media/data communication for the well-being of humans.
The conference proceedings will be published by IEEE (EI indexed), with best

Motivation
----------
Modern enterprises face a strong economical pressure to increase competitiveness, to operate on a global market, and to engage in alliances of several kinds. Agility thus has become the new guiding principle for enterprises. This requires flexible organizational structures and business processes, as well as flexible supporting information systems and a flexible ICT-infrastructure. In addition, an enterprise needs to be able to easily expand or shrink, be it through cooperation with other enterprises, through mergers or acquisitions, or through insourcing or outsourcing of services.
In order to meet these economical requirements, enterprises rely increasingly on the benefits of modern information and communication technology (ICT). However, the appropriate knowledge to deploy this technology as needed, and in an effective and efficient way, is largely lacking, particularly knowledge regarding the cooperation in and between enterprises and knowledge regarding the interoperability of their information systems.
Focus and Goal
--------------
The CIAO! workshop is a leading workshop in the emerging field of Enterprise Engineering, which is based on the notions of Enterprise Ontology and Enterprise Architecture. Enterprise Ontology is conceptually defined as (the understanding of) the essence of an enterprise. Operationally, it is its highest-level constructional model, completely independent of the way in which it is implemented. Enterprise Architecture is conceptually defined as the normative restriction of design freedom. Operationally, it is the set of design principles that are applicable to the (re)design of the enterprise's business processes, organization, information systems, etc.
The goal of the workshop is to gather academics and practitioners in order to share innovative research issues and practical experiences, and to facilitate profound discussions about these issues, in particular about the application of the notions of architecture and ontology in dealing with inter- and intra-organizational business processes and the interoperability of supporting information systems.
Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Modeling (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Reference models for (cross-enterprise) business processes
* Cooperation theories (e.g., the language-action-perspective)
* Domain reference ontologies
* Enterprise ontologies
* Enterprise architectures
* Business rules
* Information system ontologies
* Information system architectures
* Component-based system development
* Ontology-based web services
* Interoperability testing and verification
* Service Oriented Architecture
Organization of the Workshop
----------------------------
The CIAO! 2010 workshop is the 6th workshop of a series of successful workshops. (CIAO!'09, CIAO!'08, MIOS-CIAO'06, MIOS-INTEROP'05, MIOS'04) held at the CAiSE and OTM Federated conferences so far.
We are looking for articles on current or recently finished research projects as well as articles from practitioners. Based on our inspiring experience of the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 workshops, the CIAO! 2010 workshop is planned again to be a real workshop, providing ample time for discussions and group works, during two days. Consequently, the paper presentations will be short, covering only the highlights. In addition, the focus of discussion will be on CIAO: the problem areas Cooperation and Interoperability, and the application of Architecture and Ontology in dealing with them.
Submission Conditions
---------------------
Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results described must
be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions
must conform to Springer's LNBIP format and should not exceed 15
pages, including all text, figures, references and appendices.
Submissions not conforming to the LNBIP format or exceeding 15 pages
will be rejected without review. Information about the Springer LNBIP
format can be found at Springer LNBIP Web page (http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-487211-0).
Three to five keywords characterizing the paper should be indicated at the end of the abstract.

*Ontologies-Driven Web Mining: Concepts and Techniques*
A book edited by
Hector Oscar Nigro and Sandra Elizabeth Gonzalez Cisaro
Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA
To be published by IGI Global:
http://www.igi-global.com/requests/details.asp?ID=732
*
Introduction*
Semantic Web mining aims to combine the development of two research
areas, namely Semantic Web and Web mining. Web mining extracts
information from the content of the pages, its structure of
relationships (links), and the users’ browsing records.
Both areas are collaborating in different ways:
a) Mining Web techniques can help create a Semantic Web. A very
important portion of
Semantic Web is the ontologies. The ontology is represented as a set of
concepts and their
relevant interrelations for certain domains of knowledge. The challenge
is to learn ontologies
and/or their concepts, in order to make a scalable solution for a wide
range of Semantic Web
technologies.
b) Knowledge in the form of ontologies, or other forms of
representation of knowledge, can
be used to improve the process and the results of mining Web. Knowledge
provided by the ontology is useful in defining the structure and the
scope for Web content mining.
In the interaction between ontologies and Web mining, we can mention the
following applications:
* Sentiment analysis, also called opinion mining, is responsible for
classifying words,
texts or documents of opinion, and emotions or feelings that express
agreement. It works in
tagging texts and their components, which indicate if the expression is
positive, negative, or
neutral, and in the field of the subjectivity of texts, as well. The
area is called affective
computing, that is, the development of means to enable machines to
detect and to respond in an appropriate manner to the emotions of users.
* Optimization in search engines is criteria that must be taken into
account in order to plan a
campaign of positioning a Web page, its life cycle, and a selection of
tools to help analyze the positioning of a site, as well as give keys to
improve it. The study of the various basic
attributes of an individual Web resource is not sufficient to infer the
different strategies of
positioning of a search engine. The fundamental problem is that the
relationship between the
different elements of the page and weight that each one brings to the
final positioning. The
application of various techniques of inductive learning can be a
starting point for the
optimization of the Web positioning.
* Web intelligence (WI) is a research paradigm aimed at exploration of
the fundamental
interactions between artificial intelligence (AI), advanced engineering,
and advanced information technology (AIT). Engineering, here, is a
general term referring to,
(a) a new area, for example, informatics of the brain, IA human level,
intelligent agents, and intelligence social networks;
(b) classics, such as engineering knowledge, representation, planning,
discovery, and data
extraction.
The ontologies will give semantic richness to Web mining process, thus
they will facilitate the understanding of the results obtained and the
whole process performance.
*Objective of the Book*
This book aims at publishing original academic or industrial work in the
form of high quality,
scientific papers. The key objective is to provide Web mining students,
practitioners,
professionals, professors, and researchers an integral vision of the
topic, specifically focusing
on those areas that explore new methodologies or examine real study
case—all of them ontologies-based.
This publication should describe the state-of-the-art, innovative
theoretical supports, advanced and successful implementations, as well
as the latest empirical research findings in the area of
ontologies-driven Web mining.
*
Target Audience*
The target audience of this book will be composed of readers who wish to
learn how to apply
ontologies-driven Web mining to real world problems. The purpose is to
show users how to go from theory and algorithms to real applications.
The book will present to students, practitioners, professionals,
professors, and researchers
basic notions in data mining or Web mining. Information technology
researchers and practitioners can increase their knowledge and skills
with these new techniques. This book can be used as a library reference,
upper-level course supplement, or for postgraduate courses.
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Theoretic foundations on Web mining ontologies-based approach
* Ontologies in Web mining process
* Ontology-based interpretation and validation of mined knowledge
* Intelligent assistants for Web mining with ontologies
* Interaction from ontologies to Web mining
* Knowledge grids and Web mining ontology
* Ontology-based optimization in search engines
* Opinion mining with ontologies
* Real study cases, implementing Web mining based on ontologies
*Submission Procedure*
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before
FEBRUARY 1st, 2010, a 2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the
mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter.
Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by FEBRUARY 15, 2010
about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full
chapters are expected to be submitted by March 14, 2010. All submitted
chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors
may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
*Publisher*
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea
Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly

Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP Green IS Minitrack AMCIS2010
Datum: Tue, 19 Jan 2010 12:04:56 +1100
Von: Helen Hasan <hasan(a)uow.edu.au>
An: AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org <AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
16th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2010) August 12 -
15, 2010 in Lima, Peru.
Track: *Organizational Issues in IS *
Minitrack: *Sustainability, Information Systems and Technology:*
*Emerging Opportunities for Information Systems to improve
sustainability within organizations*
Download at http://greensig.atspace.org/AMCIS2010-Mini-TrackCFP.pdf
Description:
The continuous growth of the World population and the increasing demand
for higher living standards has lead to the exploitation of natural
resources and the pollution of the environment on an unprecedented
scale. Shareholders, regulatory bodies, customers and employees are
increasingly demanding firms to adopt a systematic approach to the
sustainable management of increasingly scarce resources while at the
same time reducing their impact on the environment. Environmental
management is more than ever an imperative in industrial domains such as
manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, forestry and IS & IT, which has
become pervasive throughout entire organizational functions and processes.
In the emerging fields of Green IS and Green IT, a figure of 2 percent
is often quoted as the percentage of environmentally harmful emissions
attributed to the use of IT and the IT industry. The term 'Green IT' is
now part of our vocabulary recognizing the problem of IT as a polluter
and the responsibility of IT professionals to do something about it. On
the other hand there is a counter argument that in IT and IS we have the
potential and opportunity to positively influence the global
environmental future -- in other words, develop Green IS to reduce the
other 98%. This sentiment is reflected in a chapters developed as part
of the Global Text Project. Here the term 'Green IT' is distinguished
from 'Green IS'. 'Green IT' is seen to focus mainly on energy efficiency
and equipment utilization. 'Green IS', in contrast, refers to "the
design and implementation of information systems that contribute to
sustainability of business processes". Green IS as so described should
therefore have a greater potential than Green IT because it tackles a
much larger problem.
IS can play a key role in making organizations more sustainable while at
the same reducing the negative environmental impact of IS and associated
IT infrastructure. Hence this mini track will focus on the role that IS
can play in these two interrelated issues of Green IT and Green IS.
The purpose of this mini-track is to advance theoretical and practical
knowledge in this emerging domain and to gain a better understanding of
current industry initiatives and academic research being conducted on
the role of IS in business sustainability. Hence submissions of high
quality papers that report on empirical research and case studies
including but not limited to the topics available at

***********************************************************************************
Over the last years, the European Workshop on RFID Systems and Technologies
(RFID-SysTech) has become a central platform in Europe for personal networking
and information exchange in the field of RFID technologies and applications.
While the networking of objects for the purpose of data collection and
distributed control is no longer a recent phenomenon, the sheer number of
things that are networked to information systems has dramatically risen. Today,
the Internet is increasingly extended to all kinds of physical assets: product
components, finished products, logistic units, equipment, documents, vehicles,
buildings and electronical meters as well as embedded systems of all kind.
Mature industries, like the energy or automotive are in euphoric mood and
accordingly, we see enormous research and technological development activity:
For instance, Auto-ID technologies such as RFID are being increasingly combined
with data storage capacity and sensors or other communication devices that
provide real-time data such as position, temperature, pressure, vibrations etc.
These special-purpose computer systems are able to sense information from the
real world or perform actions upon it and are also able to communicate with
other networked computer systems.
The resultant integration into existing business processes and IT
infrastructures under the side condition of enabling an interaction between
intelligent objects and business applications within and between enterprises in
a generic, flexible and scalable manner is a considerable challenge. At the
same time, the economic potential is promising and will also help enterprises
to address completely new challenges such as sustainability: Interacting with
smart devices will ensure that enterprises get correct, auditable trails for
sustainability metrics. Such systems can help businesses track carbon and other
environmental aspects. However, business-to-business integration solutions such
as the EPCglobal network or other bilateral approaches have to be developed
further in order to meet the supporting requirements.
The specific profile of this workshop is to examine both the technology and
business aspects:
- the latest achievements in technologies and systems for smart objects
- their integration into information systems and business processes
- and their business value.
Scientists and practitioners from the fields of electrical engineering,
computer science and information systems will find an excellent opportunity to
participate in interdisciplinary discussions, set up new networks and exchange
information on a professional level. In addition to the workshop, an industrial
exhibition presenting the latest innovations will be held.
