CALL FOR PAPERS
Business Process Management Journal
Special issue on IS evaluation and benchmarking for business performance
improvement
Submission deadline: 1st March 2010
Website:
http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/call_for_papers.htm?PHPSES…
<http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/call_for_papers.htm?PHPSES…>
Guest Editors: Stefan Smolnik, Nils Urbach, and Jerry L. Fjermestad
Aim and scope:
Annual worldwide spending on information technology (IT) has been
increasing for many years. By 2010, International Data Cooperation
expects the total expenditure on IT to reach 1.48 trillion US dollars.
Simultaneously, however, a greater number of information systems (IS)
failures are still emerging. A questionnaire-based survey carried out in
2006 in the USA indicated that only 62 per cent of software projects
were considered successful. The measurement of investments and developed
systems' success, as well as the paradox of high investments and low
productivity returns ("productivity paradox"), therefore remain a top
concern for both practitioners and researchers.
During the last two and a half decades, measuring IS success – the
clarification of an important dependent variable in IS research – has
been a popular stream of research. A number of models have been proposed
in attempts to define IS success and identify the various causes of
success or failure respectively. Complementarily, the benchmarking
method allows for an external perspective on the unit of analysis and
therefore for an inter-organizational comparison. Thus, organizations
are able to assess costs and benefits of IS with respect to a peer
group. In addition, benchmarking establishes standards as well as a
shared understanding and common procedures.
Researchers and practitioners interested in submitting papers to this
special issue are encouraged to present research into strategies,
methodologies, and stories that relate to assessing and benchmarking IS
with the objective of improving business processes and overall business
performance. In addition, this special issue will be used to explore the
bodies of performance measurements that define the current state of
research in measuring IS success.
Possible paper topics:
* Frameworks and models for assessing IS success/effectiveness
* Measuring IS success/effectiveness in global organizations and
globally dispersed communities
* Impact of strategic, organizational, process-related, cultural, and
other issues on IS success
* Contribution of IS to improving business processes and their performance
* From process measurement to performance improvement using IS
* Critical discussion of existing approaches (D&M IS Success Model, TAM,
etc.)
* IS success factors and key business process management performance
indicators
* Benchmarking initiatives comparing IS across different organizations
and industries
* Exploring security system success and security benchmarking
* Empirical studies evaluating different kinds of IS such as:
– Customer Relationship Management Systems
– Project (Portfolio) Management Systems
– Business Process Management and Workflow Management Systems
– Knowledge Management Systems
– Decision Support Systems
– Collaborative Systems
– Enterprise Systems.
* Case studies of IS success and performance evaluation
* Why does focusing on system requirements not lead to system success?

8th International Conference on Business Process Management
Hoboken, New Jersey
September 13-16, 2010
http://www.bpm2010.org/
Business Process Management (BPM) becomes increasingly important as companies want to increase insight, efficiency and effectiveness of their operations. BPM 2010 is the eighth conference in a series that provides the most distinguished forum for researchers and practitioners in all aspects of BPM including theory, frameworks, methods, techniques, architectures, systems, and empirical findings. It will be held from September 13-16, 2010, at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, just minutes from downtown Manhattan. The conference has a record of attracting innovative research of highest quality, from a mix of disciplines including Computer Science, Management Information Science, Services Computing, Services Science, and Technology Management. The acceptance rate at the BPM conference has traditionally been around 15%. In addition to showcasing leading research, the conference provides a venue for the discussion of BPM education, the demonstration of innovative systems with BPM functionalities, and an exchange among BPM practitioners.
We invite contributions in four different areas:
- Research Papers
- Industry Contributions
- Education and Curriculum Papers
- Demonstrations and Prototypes
*Call for Research Papers (Deadline: 14 March 2010)
BPM 2010 continues with the broad-based themes of previous BPM conferences, and strives to strengthen and expand in several key directions. The conference especially encourages emerging research on new conceptual models for BPM understood broadly, models that attempt to unify core aspects of BPM, including process management, data management, business rules and requirements, and analytics, that until recently have been represented using rather disparate conceptual models. The conference also encourages the increasing interest in applying established and new techniques, such as model-driven architectures, Web services and Web architectures, SOA, and Cloud Computing , to the specific challenges of BPM. Finally, the conference seeks to attract papers that highlight the pervasive need for BPM capabilities across application areas outside of business management, including healthcare delivery, digital government, disaster management, and management of scientific and other academic endeavors, and that highlight how new techniques can solve the distinctive challenges arising in those diverse areas.
For more information see http://www.bpm2010.org/call-for-papers/call-for-research-papers/
*Call for Education and Curriculum Papers (Due: 14 March 2010)
The new Education and Curriculum track invites papers that examine effective education and training methods for developing the BPM professional. The intent is to share and develop relevant knowledge and to promote fresh ideas for the integration of the broad spectrum of BPM dimensions into training and education courses and/or programs. General questions include the current state of BPM education in universities and/or professional education organizations, what courses and content of those courses are effective at developing BPM professionals, what methods of education/training deployment help BPM professionals understand the holistic nature of end-to-end process-centric organizations, and what types of skills and abilities are needed for BPM deployments and sustainment.
For more information see http://www.bpm2010.org/call-for-papers/call-for-education-papers/
*Call for Demonstrations (Due: 17 May 2010)
The Demonstration track showcases innovative Business Process Management (BPM) tools and applications that may originate either from research initiatives or from industry. The Demonstration Track will provide an opportunity to present and discuss emerging technologies with researchers and practitioners in the BPM field. In addition, authors are invited to submit a paper describing their prototype for publication.
For more information see http://www.bpm2010.org/call-for-papers/demonstrations/
*Call for Industry Contributions (Abstracts Due: 15 February 2010)
The BPM 2010 industry track will provide practitioners with the opportunity to present insight gained through BPM projects. We are particularly interested in case studies from the perspective of user organizations. We are particularly interested in contributions that address one the following themes:
-Process Modeling and Innovation Projects
-BPM Software Platforms and Architectures
-Process Analytics and Business Intelligence
-Process Flexibility and Evolution
-Management Issues in BPM

Mini-track: Master Data Management: Strategies, Concepts and Cases
Track: Data and Information Quality
------------------------------------------------------------------
MINI-TRACK DESCRIPTION
Master data management is referred to as an application-independent
function which describes and manages the business data resource in an
organization. It ensures high quality of master data by providing
guidelines for its management and it creates a common view on the data.
Recently, master data management has received much attention from
business. A major reason for this is the important role high-quality
master data plays with regard to a number of business drivers. Among
them are compliance to regulatory requirements, integrated customer
management and the need of a “single source of the truth” for
company-wide reporting purposes. Despite the relevance of master data
quality, current efforts in practice leave much to be desired. Moreover,
the topic has been discussed in the information systems (IS) research
area to a marginal extent only so far.
The proposed mini-track addresses this gap and aims at giving a forum
for novel concepts and research work in the following areas:
* Strategies for master data management
* Master data centric business scenarios and use cases
* Cost and benefit analysis for master data management
* Application of valuation theories of master data management
* Organizational concepts for master data management
* Human factors in master data management
* Master data governance
* Master data compliance
* Master data quality
* Master data security and privacy aspects
* Master data lifecycle management
* Master data architectures including reference architectures and
architecture patterns
* Master data management deployment methods
* Business metadata management
* Standardization activities
* Data modeling for master data
* Master data and service-orientation
* Software architectures
* Patterns for data distribution and data synchronization
* Case studies and applications
* Industry specific aspects of master data management
The mini-track welcomes innovative research papers from both the
academic and the practitioners’ community.
For more information see:

WORLDCOMP is the largest annual gathering of researchers in computer
science, computer engineering and applied computing. We anticipate
to have 2,000 or more attendees from over 85 countries participating
at the Congress. A number of individual research tracks of WORLDCOMP
have been held for many years; for example, PDPTA has been held
annually since 1995 (PDPTA'10 is the 16th annual conference); ERSA
has been held annually since 2001 (ERSA'10 is the 10th annual
conference); ICAI has been held annually since 1999 (ICAI'10 is the
12th annual conference); other tracks of WORLDCOMP Congress have
similar records.
The motivation behind this federated congress is to assemble a
spectrum of affiliated research conferences into a coordinated
research meeting held in a common place at a common time. The main
goal is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas in a number of
research areas that interact. Both inward research (core areas of
computer science and engineering) and outward research (multi-
disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and applications) will be covered
during the joint conferences. WORLDCOMP provides a unique platform
for a diverse community of constituents composed of scholars,
researchers, developers, educators, and practitioners. The Congress
makes concerted effort to reach out to participants affiliated with
diverse entities (such as: universities, institutions, corporations,
government agencies, and research centers/labs) from all over the
world. The congress also attempts to connect participants from
institutions that have "teaching" as their main mission with those
who are affiliated with institutions that have "research" as their
main mission. The congress uses a quota system to achieve its
institution and geography diversity objectives.

Submissions must be uploaded by March 1, 2010 and they must be
in either MS doc (but not docx) or pdf formats (about 5 to 7 pages
- single space, font size of 10 to 12). All reasonable typesetting
formats are acceptable (later, the authors of accepted papers will
be asked to follow a particular typesetting format to prepare
their final papers.)
The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited
to 7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have been previously
published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The
first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper,
name, affiliation, postal address, and email address for each
author. The first page should also identify the name of the Contact
Author and a maximum of 5 topical keywords that would best
represent the content of the paper. Finally, the name of the
conference/track (see the list above) that the paper is being
submitted to must be stated on the first page.
Full papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity,
impact, and soundness. Each paper will be refereed by two experts
in the field who are independent of the conference program committee.
The referees' evaluations will then be reviewed by one member of the
program committee who will recommend a decision to the chair of the
track that the paper has been submitted to. The chair will make the
final decision. Lastly, the final papers will be reviewed by one
member of the program committee.
All accepted papers will be published in the respective conference
proceedings (in both, printed book form as well as online). The
proceedings will be indexed in Inspec / IET / The Institute for
Engineering and Technology, DBLP / Computer Science Bibliography,
and others. 32229) The printed proceedings will be available for
distribution on site at the conference.
In addition to the publication of the proceedings, selected authors
will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for
publication in a number of research books being proposed/contracted
with various publishers (such as, Springer, Elsevier, IOS, ...) -
these books would be composed after the conference. Also, many
chairs of sessions and workshops will be forming journal special
issues to be published after the conference.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Business Process Management Journal
Special issue on IS evaluation and benchmarking for business performance
improvement
Submission deadline: 1st March 2010
Website:
http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/call_for_papers.htm?PHPSES…
<http://info.emeraldinsight.com/products/journals/call_for_papers.htm?PHPSES…>
Author guidelines:
All papers will be subject to a rigorous double-blind peer review.
Please see BPMJ author guidelines for further details at:
