Special Issue on eHealth and Services Computing in Healthcare
Guest Editors:
Carolyn McGregor (University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada)
Anthony Maeder, (University of Western Sydney, Australia)
Healthcare is often perceived to lag behind other industry sectors in
its uptake and adoption of new technology. eHealth is one such
technology which includes the areas of health informatics, electronic
medical/patient records, clinical decision support, telehealth. The main
purpose of eHealth is to provide better use of information in health
care settings, to improve the quality of patient care and the efficiency
of clinical processes. Many situations exist where the use of eCommerce
principles would be appropriate to establish new eHealth solutions, and
these warrant extensive research investigation. Services Computing has
been described as a cross-discipline that covers the science and
technology of bridging the gap between Business Services and IT Services
(IEEE Services Computing Community). This role is supported by Web
services and service-oriented architecture (SOA), business consulting
methodology and utilities, business process modelling, transformation
and integration. The goal of Services Computing is to enable IT services
and computing technology to perform business services more efficiently
and effectively. Opportunities abound for the unique aspects of
healthcare to drive fundamental computing and IT research together with
leading applied research within the healthcare domain, that could
potentially be reapplied to areas outside of healthcare.
This special issue invites papers with research contributions in the
domain of eHealth and Services Computing in Healthcare. The topics
include but are not limited to:
* Trends and Challenges for eHealth and/or Services Computing in Healthcare
* Case Studie s in eHealth and/or Services Computing in Healthcare
* Impact and benefits of eHealth and Services Computing in Healthcare
* Services Computing for intra and inter organization patient journeys
* Drivers and Barriers for adoption of Service Oriented Architectures in
Healthcare
* Usage of mobile devices and patient surveillance systems for
Healthcare Services
* Patient journey modeling in eHealth and/or Services Computing in
Healthcare
* Quality of Service and Quality Assurance for eHealth and/or Services
Computing in Healthcare
* Development and deployment of Service Oriented Architectures
supporting Healthcare
* Legal and Regulatory requirements concerning electronic delivery of
Healthcare Services
* New models of healthcare delivery supported by eHealth and/or Services
Computing
* Healthcare Services performance issues (e.g. Availability, Reliability

Special Issue on Green Marketing in Business to Business Marketing and New Media
Special Issue Editor: Heikki Karjaluoto
The special issue will focus on green marketing in the business-to-business context with a special emphasis on new media. Corporations often lack a uniform green marketing strategy, especially in the integration of various marketing communications instruments and new media. Green values are usually flashed in the corporate newsletters and public relations but are often nonexistent in other instruments such as personal selling. Given the pressure to pursue social responsibility strategies like green marketing, this topic clearly deserves fresh contributions in the form of both conceptual and empirical studies. It is also hypothesized that business-to-business customers are placing more emphasis on green values in their buying decisions, but as yet little empirical evidence concerning the success of green marketing arguments is available.
Target topics that are relevant to this special issue of JoSIT include but are not limited to:
Green marketing and corporate social responsibility strategy
Integrated marketing communications in the B2B sector
The utilization of new electronic channels in B2B marcom
The role of trade fairs and exhibitions in marcom
The integration of personal selling to marcom
Conceptualization of green marketing
The measurement of green values among customers
Scale development studies on green marketing values
The impact of green values on buying decisions
The role of green values in customer value creation
Utilitarian values vs. green values in buying decisions
Green IT and marketing communications
New media and green marketing

==============================================
BACKGROUND:
Since the first formal specifications of modern computing machinery as
laid out by Alan Turing and his contemporary fellows, we have been
witnessing,
during the last three decades, an evolutionary path in computing towards
more
personalized and contextualized data and knowledge artefacts.
The optimal usage of distributed computing, data and knowledge resources
has
always been the means in order to tackle hard problems in fields, such
as science, engineering
and medicine. The SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence,
Berkeley, USA)
project is one prominent example in this category followed by the Human
Genome project.
It is no surprise that projects like e-Science, as recently launched by
the UK government,
and the GRID computing are meant to create a computing paradigm, where
"the computer is the
network". In all these approaches, however, the problem seems to be well
defined and
no synergies across participants from different cultural and
professional backgrounds
are requested in order to create a solution.
In the early 21st century with the rise of the Social and Semantic Web,
however,
the answer of 'what is a network' has been relaxed by the inclusion of
users and
user communities, which form social networks via computerized means.
Ecosystems
of humans and machines have been created where the involvement of
human beings as creators and consumers of data and knowledge as well as
in problem solving and learning tasks has been of paramount importance.
Clusters of computers have been enhanced by clusters of humans.
Formation of social groups follows the same principles of
social behaviour, common interests, e.g., studies, hobbies, games.
Wikipedia has
been a success story of a collaborative environment for knowledge
creation and
sharing. Facebook, MySpace, del.icio.us, Flickr have been further
success stories
of social networking with digital media.
This special issue explores the notion of this human-machine model of
Collective
Intelligence (CI) and its potential to become a new computing paradigm
for creating
solutions or strategies to tackle difficult problems, where the
synergistic interactions
of a group of people with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds
are requested.
This issue aims at studying the move from (system-) collected knowledge
and intelligence,
to collective knowledge and intelligence and exploring the challenge of
boosting the collective IQ of organizations and society where both human
and machine
contribute actively to the resulting intelligence with each doing best
what they do best.
=====================================================
CONTRIBUTIONS SOUGHT:
This is by no means an exhaustive list of challenges and research
questions to be addressed
by the submitted papers for all elements of the best research practice
as based on
the triple theory, methodology, model - languages - system implementation.
* How do we plug-in personal data and knowledge into a problem solving
social network?
* How do we create systems to enable collaboration?
* How do we guarantee communication at different levels of expertise and
cultural
and multi-lingual backgrounds?
* How do we guarantee communication between experts and end users in
their role
as members of a particular society and participants in problem-solving
strategies
and techniques?
* How do we harness the inherent complexity of networked solutions?
* How can we create cooperating systems in a cost-effective way?
* How can we integrate systems in a meaningful way without sacrificing
autonomy?
* How can we bring together diverse conceptions and interpretations
of user communities?
* How do we cope with uncertainty and probability in data management and
knowledge discovery?
* What are the mechanisms to support group formation multiple
interpretive perspectives,
negotiation of group knowledge
* What are the technological and social reconfigurations that are needed
to achieve
computer supported collaborative knowledge building, i.e., group
cognition, that
transcends the limits of individual cognition
* How do we design and offer software, which analyzes and relies on
empirical
instances of collaboration?
* How do we ensure that quality in knowledge and software creation and
consumption is assured?
* How can we ensure security and trustworthiness in networked environments?
* How do we enable learning via computer games and multimedia enhanced
knowledge sources?
* How do we make sure which inference and reasoning techniques are
applied to available
data? Does reasoning and available data match?
APPLICATIONS:
Applications as varied as collaborative curriculum development, writing
summaries
by students and designing space voyages by NASA engineers can be addressed.
A non-exhaustive list of application paradigms is the following:
* Collaborative Scientific Problem Solving
* Maintaining Model Bases
* Environmental Monitoring and Global Climate Change
* Collaborative Business Models and the Enterprise 2.0
* Collaborative e-Learning
* Social Networking Analysis
* E-Governance
* Collective Environment Monitoring Systems
* etc.

Special Issue in the Electronic Commerce Research and Applications
Elsevier Journal on "Emerging Economic, Strategic and Technical Issues in
Online Auctions and Electronic Market Mechanisms"
Guest Editors: Claudia Loebbecke (University of Cologne, Germany), Roumen
Vragov (Baruch College, CUNY), and Charles A. Wood (University of Notre
Dame)
You are cordially invited to submit an original manuscript for the
Electronic Commerce Research's special issue on "Emerging Economic,
Strategic and Technical Issues in Online Auctions and Electronic Market
Mechanisms."
This issue of Electronic Commerce Research and Applications is devoted to
exploring challenges and innovative research in the domain of online
auctions and electronic markets, as well as research that offers new
theories and theoretical insights for the design of electronic market
mechanisms. We especially appreciate submissions that examine the impact
of online auctions or other electronic markets viewed from the different
perspectives of multiple disciplines: information systems, economics,
business strategy, operations, public affairs, psychology, sociology, and
computer science. This kind of work can vary from the most technical
investigations to those that consider human and economic factors in
auctions. Other issues of interest include, but are not limited to:
auctions for collectibles like eBay; the auction-related aspects of
electronic financial markets like NASDAQ and NYMEX; and electronic market
mechanisms like reverse e-auctions, group buying and Internet auctions for
the issuance of stocks, and other unique electronic markets made possible
by advances in technologies over the last decade.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS:
The ideal length of submissions related to the themes discussed above is
between 8,000 and 11,000 words. All submissions should follow the general
guidelines of the journal as specified at
www.elsevier.com/wps/find/journaldescription.cws_home/621289/authorinstruct….
The manuscripts will be peer-reviewed according to the journals general
policy; all reviews are single-blind. For a detailed description of this
call for papers, see
http://www.elsevier.com/framework_products/promis_misc/loebbecke_vragov_woo…
