Call for Participation
Thirteenth International Workshop on
Exploring Modeling Methods in Systems Analysis and Design
(EMMSAD'08)
http://www.emmsad.org
Montpellier, France
16-17 June, 2008
(held in conjunction with CAiSE'08)
Registration: http://www.lirmm.fr/caise08/index.php?page=participant&a=add
Sponsors:
Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE)
International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.1
(IFIP WG 8.1)
European Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-VLab)
Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Systems
Analysis and Design (AIS-SIGSAND)
Background:
The field of information systems analysis and design includes numerous
information modeling methods and notations (e.g. ER, ORM, UML, DFDs,
BPMN), that are typically evolving. Even with some attempts to standardize
(e.g. UML for object-oriented design), new modeling methods are constantly
being introduced, many of which differ only marginally from existing
approaches. These ongoing changes significantly impact the way information
systems are being analyzed and designed in practice.
This workshop focuses on exploring, evaluating, and enhancing current
information modeling methods and methodologies. Though the need for such
studies is well recognized, there is a paucity of such research in the
literature. The objective of EMMSAD'08 is to provide a forum for
researchers and practitioners interested in modeling methods in systems
analysis and design to meet, and exchange research ideas and results. It
also provides the participants an opportunity to present their research
papers and experience reports, and to take part in open discussions.
EMMSAD'08 is the thirteenth in a very successful series of EMMSAD
workshops, previously held in Heraklion, Barcelona, Pisa, Heidelberg,
Stockholm, Interlaken, Toronto, Velden, Riga, Porto, Luxembourg and
Trondheim.

QoS in Self-healing Web Services
September 1st, 2008
Milano, Italy
http://qsws08.dei.polimi.it
in conjunction with BPM 2008
6th International Conference on Business Process Management
September 1-4 2008
Milano, Italy
http://emma.polimi.it/emma/showEvent.do?page=303&idEvent=22
Background and motivation
The development of composite services poses very interesting
challenges concerning their Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics.
On the one hand, a composite Web Service depends on the QoS properties
of its own Web Service suppliers in order to provide a satisfactory
service to the user. On the other hand, the main issues for
the fulfillment of QoS and service level agreements are concerned
with Web service performance variability. Indeed, the QoS of a
Web Service may evolve relatively frequently, either because of
internal changes or because of workload fluctuations.
The performance of the composite Web service may be significantly
improved by monitoring the execution of the component Web Services
and by flexibly reacting to faults and anomalies in a timely fashion.
The concept of self-healing Web Service has been introduced
in order to describe services which exhibit such properties.
A self-healing Web Service can repair itself if any execution problems
occur, in order to successfully complete its own execution,
while respecting QoS agreements. In the design of a self-healing WS,
several aspects have to be considered. For instance,
the service should be able to detect failures as soon as possible and
to enact suitable recovery actions. Moreover, different QoS
service levels might be considered in order to complete
the service execution in case of error, possibly with degraded performance.
********** Call for papers ************
For this workshop, we will consider contributions devoted to Web Services,
QoS management, diagnosis and autonomic services.
Specifically, the relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
* Distributed and centralized solutions for the diagnosis and
repair of choreographed and/or orchestrated Web Services
* Design for the diagnosability and repairability of Web Services
* QoS management in choreographed and/or orchestrated Web Services
* Monitoring simple and composite Web Services
* Ontologies for QoS
* Dynamic reconfiguration of Web Services
* Predictive QoS management for Web Services
* Autonomic services
Workshop format
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and
practitioners,
both from the Academia and from the Industry, working in the areas of
Web Service composition, QoS management and diagnosis,
who investigate concepts, methods, techniques, and tools to
design and manage self-healing Web Services.
All contributions will be made available in a Web site before the main
conference,
so that participants can read them in advance.
Morever, a CD including the contributions and pre-proceedings will
be distributed at the conference.
After the workshop, post-proceedings will be prepared and published
in a volume edited by Springer (the post-proceedings will include the
papers presented at all the BPM 2008 workshops and reviewed on the basis
of the discussion).
Moreover, the best paper of each workshop will be invited to a special
issue of the "Software Process Improvement and Practice" Journal: best
papers will undergo a further peer revision process in order to select
the subset to be published in the special issue.

======================================================================
The Web presents a key driving force for a large spectrum of
applications in which a user interacts with a company, a
governmental
authority, a non-governmental organization or other non-profit
institution or other users. User preferences and expectations,
together with usage patterns, form the basis for personalized,
user-friendly and optimal services. Key metrics enabled by proper
data
capture and processing are essential to run an effective business
or
service. Enabling technologies include data mining, scalable
warehousing and preprocessing, sequence discovery, real time
processing, document classification, user modeling and quality
evaluation models for them. Recipient technologies that demand for
user profiling and usage patterns include recommendation systems,
Web
analytics applications, application servers coupled with content
management systems and fraud detectors.
Research advances associated with knowledge discovery on the Web
observe the Web as a social medium for exchange and cooperation, as
a
semantic network where people find information and contribute
information (by means of documents, annotations and comments) and
as a
place for doing business, launching business and promoting
business.
WEBKDD 2008 will bring together researchers and practitioners on
these aspects of the Web. The emphasis is on lessons learned,
recent
advances and open issues for the next decade.
WEBKDD 2008 will be the 10th anniversary workshop on knowledge
discovery on the Web, taking place at the KDD since 1999. WebKDD
presentations have historically been of high quality and influence,
and workshops have in the past attracted not only audience from
academia, but also a significant audience from industry and
government
agencies. Altogether, the papers at the past WEBKDD workshops have
accumulated about 940 citations, including 7 patent citations that
cite the workshop as the premier reference on the topic of Web
usage
analysis. (The citations are from Google Scholar, accessed between
Feb. 10 and Feb. 12, 2008.)
In WEBKDD 2008, we anticipate a wrap-up and lessons-learned from 10
years of research on mining the Web, the Semantic Web(s) and the
social Web and a research agenda for the years to come.
Workshop Topics
===============
The WEBKDD 2008 workshop will invite contributions on mining of all
aspects of users' activities in the Web, in particular:
- Mining server log (clickstream) data
- Web analytics
- Web content and structure mining
- Modeling users and their interaction with the Web
- Mining query log data and web search result mining
- Mining users' activities in social venues, ranging from chat fora
with emphasis on interaction, to recommendation networks with
- emphasis
on spread of influence
- Mining users' activities in venues that foster the capturing of
- data
semantics, e.g. for building the Semantic Web or for the
- building of
folksonomies
- web community mining and social network analysis
- Enabling technologies for Web mining, including technologies for
- Web
warehousing, data preparation, management of multi-relational
- data and
streams, visualization, and evaluation
- Application areas, including recommendation engines, Web
communities, Web marketplaces, Web search, Web security and
- misuse and
abuse of the Web and its services.

CfP: Managing Requirements Knowledge (MaRK'08)
http://www1.in.tum.de/mark08
Workshop in conjunction with the 16th IEEE Requirements Engineering
Conference
Barcelona, Spain - September, 8.09.2008

Submissions deadline July 1st, 2008
*********************************************************
*** MOTIVATION ***
Research has shown that capturing and sharing of tacit knowledge about
requirements enhances reuse, enables traceability, supports requirement
evolution and improves collaboration between participants in distributed
projects. However, current requirements engineering processes and tools
do not give enough room for managing requirements knowledge. In the age
of agile methodologies and with the increasing distribution, scale and
complexity of development projects, the need for managing requirements
knowledge continues to increase, while the major constraint is to have a
lightweight, usable, intelligent and personalized capturing and sharing
approach. Requirement engineering infrastructures should capture and
formalize tacit knowledge and requirement stakeholders should be able to
answer questions about requirements at any time, using their common
vocabularies.
Advancements in knowledge management such as ontological engineering,
mining techniques, semantic annotation as well as search and assistance
tools brings new potentials for the requirement engineering community.
Therefore, this workshop discusses the issues and approaches regarding
capturing, externalizing, accessing, sharing and maintaining of
knowledge in requirements engineering.
*** TOPICS OF INTEREST ***
The topics of the workshop include, but are not restricted to:
* Approaches to supporting sharing knowledge related to requirements
* Automatic and context-aware capture of problem domain knowledge
* Intelligent assistance tools such as semantic search and
recommendation on requirements, or context awareness tools for
supporting requirements elicitation, analysis, traceability and reuse
* Mining requirements repositories
* Ontology-based requirements and traceability management
* Methodologies supporting knowledge capture during requirements
engineering activities such as elicitation, specification, analysis and
change management
* Capture and maintenance of rationale information for volatile and
evolving requirements
* Rationale management for product lines and service-oriented architectures
* Economic models for applying knowledge management in requirement
engineering
* Empirical studies on advantages and drawbacks of particular knowledge
management approaches
*** TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS ***
* Short papers (3-5 pages) state the position of the authors within the
scope of the workshop, and can describe solution concepts in a premature
state.
* Full papers (6-10 pages) describe problems, needs, novel approaches
and frameworks within the scope of the workshop. Evaluations of new
approaches are to be included in a full paper. Empirical evaluation
papers and industrial experience reports are also welcome for submissions.
* Posters and demo papers (1-2 pages) summarize work results.
*** SUBMISSION ***
Submissions are to be done via EasyChair from the workshop homepage.
Only electronic submissions are accepted. To be considered for review, a
paper submission must be in the IEEE CS Press Proceedings format.
(http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm) Paper submissions must
not exceed 5 pages for a position paper or 10 pages for a full paper.
Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three members from the
MaRK’08 program committee. Papers will be accepted based on originality
and relevance to the workshop. Accepted papers will be published as
workshop proceedings in the IEEE Digital Library. At least one author
should participate at the workshop and register for the RE’08 conference.
*** IMPORTANT DATES ***
Submissions deadline July 1st, 2008
Review feedback July 25th, 2008
Camera ready August 8th, 2008
