Subject: Call For Paper : REFSQ'02

R E F S Q ' 0 2
Eighth International Workshop on Requirements Engineering:
Foundation for Software Quality
In connection with : R E' 0 2,
September 09-10th, 2002, Essen Germany
http://panoramix.univ-paris1.fr/CRINFO/REFSQ/02/
************************************************************
At seven previous REFSQ workshops, researchers and practitioners from
various disciplines have contributed to improve the definition and
implementation of quality requirements. REFSQ'2002 will continue this
tradition as a highly interactive stage for discussion of quality-related
problems in RE as they have developed over the last years. In particular,
we encourage people from the requirements engineering, software engineering
and information systems fields to present their approaches to higher
software quality and to discuss how requirements engineering can contribute
to it.
This year, REFSQ is organised in connection with the 10th IEEE
International Requirements Engineering Conference RE'02.
Extended versions of selected papers from REFSQ'02 will be invited for
publication in a special issue of the Information and Software Technology
Journal published by Elsevier Science.
*** G O A L
***********
Achieving high software quality means to realise the needs of users and
customers. These needs are elicited, negotiated, documented and validated
during requirements engineering (RE). RE is therefore the most crucial
phase of software development. The goals of RE are :
* to produce a traceable requirements specification that is as consistent
and complete as possible;
* to facilitate a cooperative and iterative learning process;
* to document both the specification and the RE process using appropriate
representation formats;
* to establish a sufficient common understanding among the stakeholders
involved;
* to establish systematic conections between requirements and actual systems.
Conventional RE methods usually support only parts of this process or help
stating only specific kinds of requirements.
The goal of REFSQ is to improve the understanding of the relations between
requirements engineering and software quality. More precisely, REFSQ aims
at having intensive discussion provoked by brief presentations about :
* solutions to known RE problems and shortcomings;
*innovative research ideas possibly initiating new research directions;
* industrial problem statements; and
* generalisations from individual industrial experiences.
*** T H E M E S
***************
REFSQ'2002 invites general submissions addressing a wide range of RE
issues, such as:
* understanding and improving RE-processes;
* new methods and method engineering for RE;
* empirical evaluation of RE methods and tools;
* empirical studies of industrial RE practice; as well as
* transdisciplinary theories of and paradigms for RE.
In addition, the REFSQ'02 special theme is :
"New ideas and ground-breaking on-going research : RE innovation at the
service of Software Quality".
We seek, as is the tradition in REFSQ, for original RE methods, techniques
and tools aiming at improved software quality. Possible topics include,
without being restricted to :
* novel RE issues raised by emergent technologies such as Internet, Data
Mining, etc,
* original or outstanding experiences of RE practice,
* new RE artefacts or paradigms for better software quality,
* RE strategies for creative requirements and software innovation by RE,
* RE strategies for new, emergent or futuristic technologies,
* new cross-disciplinary applications of existing RE strategies or
exploration of new RE strategies targeting softawre traditionnaly dealt
with by other computer science disciplines, and
* original approaches taken by RE research programmes.
Researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit papers complying
with this special theme. Submitions dealing with the traditional REFSQ
topcis are of course welcome.
*** P U B L I C A T I O N
*************************
Like earlier years, the papers presented at the workshop will be published
in the REFSQ'2002 proceedings.
Besides, extended versions of selected papers from REFSQ'2002 will be
invited for publication in a special issue of the Information and Software
Technology Journal published by Elsevier Science.
*** W O R K S H O P F O R M A T
*********************************
The workshop will be highly interactive. Attendance is limited to 30 people
and all participants should have a paper accepted for the workshop. The
workshop language is English.
The accepted papers will be made available electronically to all workshop
participants before the workshop, so that presentations can be kept short.
Discussants will be appointed for each paper presentation. The discussants
will be followed by a plenary discussion of the paper. In addition, there
will be a plenary discussion at the end of each session.
At the end of the workshop there will be a general discussion, possibly
including a brainstorming session about areas or topics of RE research that
the participants perceive as important.
*** I N S T R U C T I O N S F O R A U T H O R S
***************************************************
Papers of three types can be submitted to the workshop:
* Full papers (max 6000 words)
Full papers should emphasise what is new and significant about the chosen
approach and adequately compare it with similar works. Integration of the
contributions with mainstream or other research approaches to RE, SE and IS
development are especially encouraged. The maximum length of a full paper
is 6000 words.
* Position papers (max 2000 words)
Position papers should state the author's research position with respect to
current RE practice, relations between current RE practice and RE research,
and/or research methodology and ontological assumptions. Papers should
emphasise which topics that are particularly important within RE at
present, and why. The maximum length of a position paper is 2000 words.
* Industrial problem statements (1 page or longer)
People from industry are especially encouraged to submit problem
statements, which may address mis-matches between current RE practice and
research and/or emerging areas of concern for RE practitioners.

ACM Collaborative Virtual Environments 2002
Gustav-Stresemann-Institut
Bonn, Germany
September 30-October 2, 2002
http://www.cve2002.org/
CVE 2000 is an international conference dedicated to the design, development
and use of collaborative virtual environments (CVEs). It is the fourth
international conference in this bi-annual series, (the second supported by
the ACM) and attracts delegates from a wide range of fields. A CVE is a
computer-based, distributed, virtual space or set of places. In such places,
people can meet and interact with others, with agents, or with virtual
objects. CVEs might vary in their representational richness from 3D
graphical spaces, 2.5D and 2D environments, to text-based environments. The
instantiation of the CVE is by no means limited to desktop devices, and
might well include mobile or wearable devices, public kiosks, immersive
virtual reality interfaces, or any combination of diverse, networked devices
that facilitate inhabiting a hybrid (physical/virtual) place, etc.
As we move increasingly to a networked world, and with the promise of
increased and improved data-flow through broadband networks, we believe that
collaborative virtual environments will be of increasing importance in
distributed collaboration.
The aim of the CVE conferences is to inspire fruitful discussion and
encourage information flow between practitioners of different disciplines.
Previous CVE conferences (CVE'96, CVE'98 and CVE'2000) have attracted
delegates from computer science, psychology, artificial intelligence,
communication, sociology, education, architecture & urban planning, and
cultural & media studies.
RESEARCH TOPICS
CVE2002 invites submissions on the full range of CVE-related topics,
including, but not limited to:-
o the design and development of CVE systems and architectures
o applications of Collaborative Virtual Environments
o the design of interaction techniques, including non-verbal communication
and conversation support
o models and metaphors for collaboration
o input/output methods, user-environment interactions
o the design and deployment of autonomous agents within the environments
o issues in the design of cross-cultural collaborative virtual environments
o experiences and evaluations of collaborative environments and their
applications

IEEE 11th International Workshop on Enabling Technologies:
Infrastructure for Collaborative Enterprises
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
June 10-12, 2002
WETICE
Call for Participation
3-Day Workshop on Evaluating Collaborative Enterprises
Workshop Co-Chairs:
Elaine M. Raybourn
Sandia National Laboratories, USA
Julian Newman
Glasgow Caledonian, UK
Effective collaboration involves people, communication, and the co-creation
of meaning through information sharing that may be synchronous and/or
asynchronous. Internet technology has enabled basic communication
infrastructures to facilitate people working together collaboratively over
the Web. However, using these applications has proven much more difficult in
enabling effective collaboration within and among enterprises than
previously acknowledged. Researchers and practioners need tools to measure
the incremental progress towards developing useful collaborative groupware
systems, as well as methods to evaluate the impact of specific technologies
on the effectiveness of human to human, or human to machine collaboration.
We believe developing effective evaluation methodologies will facilitate
progress in designing and deploying Web-based collaborative technologies.
The primary goal of this workshop is to provide a forum, in which
researchers and practitioners can share tools and evaluation methodologies
of collaborative enterprises, lessons learned from deployment of
collaborative technologies in organizations or educational institutions, and
ideas for directions the area of evaluation must move toward in order to
facilitate the progress of distributed collaboration.
This workshop is an excellent opportunity to bring together people who are
addressing the unique and challenging needs of collaborative enterprise
evaluation. We welcome delegates from all aspects of industry and academia.
Previous WETICE workshops have attracted delegates from areas such as
computer science, information science, artificial intelligence,
communication, psychology, sociology, education, human factors, usability,
systems engineering, and library sciences.
Important Dates
Full papers due to individual workshops-March 29, 2002
Notification to authors- April 26, 2002
Final papers for Post-proceedings - May 22, 2002
Advance registration deadline- May 22, 2002
Final workshop reports by Workshop Chairs- June 28, 2002 (after the
workshop)
Workshop Dates- June 10-12, 2002
Workshop Description:
The Evaluating Collaborative Enterprises workshop builds upon the research
presentations and the vibrant discussion from last year's debut of this
workshop. This year we intend to kick off discussions by providing an online
discussion forum before the workshop. A common theme identified at WETICE
2001 was the need for research and practice to better understand the
characteristics of the collaborative enterprise of interest, and determine
what evaluation approaches, methods, techniques, tools, and associated
metrics are most appropriate. Ultimately, there needs to be a framework or
taxonomy that can answer:
+ Which approaches are best for evaluating different types of collaborative
systems? Can these be categorized?
+ In the design cycle of collaborative software development, when are
particular evaluation approaches effective and when are they not? Can a
spectrum be developed?
+ What combination of methods and techniques for gathering metrics are most
effective for the situation under evaluation?
+ Which evaluation approaches, methods and techniques address collaboration
process and product effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction?
+ Which metrics address product and process effectiveness, efficiency, and
satisfaction of the collaborative enterprise under study?
+ What evaluation tools and mechanisms are best for generating specific
metrics?
Topics that contribute to this framework may include:
+ Benchmark collaboration scenarios and associated evaluation measures for
groupware system design and development,
+ Adaptation of single-user software development and evaluation techniques
to groupware evaluation,
+ Groupware design principles or heuristics for use in groupware evaluation.
Analysis of group characteristics (organizational, behavioral, and
technical) and corresponding groupware characteristics,
+ Collaboration evaluation methods and tools that use design ethnography,
+ Case studies evaluating collaborative enterprises,
+ Methods and tools for lowering the cost of evaluating collaborative
enterprises,
+ Methods and tools for effective field study evaluation.
Submission of Technical papers:
Authors of technical papers should submit an original paper (not submitted
or published elsewhere) in portable document format (pdf) format by email to
j.newman(a)gcal.ac.uk.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TOURISM - CALL FOR PAPERS - SPECIAL ISSUE
The Journal of Information Technology and Tourism is pleased to announce a
special issue on MOBILE APPLICATIONS, AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE and SYSTEM
INTEGRATION THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR TOURISM AND TRAVEL
Guest Editors: Professor Andrew J Frew, Mr Francesco Nachira
The special issue seeks to build upon the issues arising from the agenda set
through the Mobile Technologies workshop organised in Innsbruck 25th/26th
January 2001 under the auspices of IFITT and aims to explore the
contribution of Information Society Technologies (IST) in particular mobile
access to the domain of tourism and travel. Ambient intelligence is a
shorthand description for many of the converging technologies and may be
considered to be founded upon the principles of ubiquitous computing,
communications and intelligent user-friendly interfaces. The term ambient
intelligence also implies a 'seamless environment of computing and advanced
networking technology that is aware of human presence and may engage in
intelligent dialogue'. Some of these technologies are of course here today
but not as yet applied and diffused, some just around the corner. It also
implies advances in system integration aspects: architecture, semantic,
business. This issue therefore invites researchers in fields impingent on
these to submit papers and a wide interpretation of the remit is
anticipated.
Papers are invited that address -- but are not limited to -- the following
baseline technologies and related topics:
* Universal access * Wireless communication devices and issues
* Interoperability of communications networks
* HMI and Usability
* Location-based intelligent systems
* User Profiling and Recommendation systems
* Speech and pattern recognition
* Intelligent agents, avatars and middleware
* Architecture for distributed seamless networking
* Ontology and semantics for interoperability
* Knowledge management and sharing systems
* Social Learning
Authors are invited to develop their papers according to the ITT guidelines
(http://sek2.wu-wien.ac.at/itut/subm.htm) and should submit them to
Professor Andrew J Frew (afrew(a)qmuc.ac.uk ) by the following deadlines:
Timetable and strict deadlines
Paper submission 26th April
2002 Referee process for short listed papers 26th April - 31st
May 2002 Final deadline for accepted papers 14th June 2002
An early indication of potential interest and tentative title would be
greatly appreciated.
For more information on the Journal or about IFITT please go to
http://www.ifitt.org Note that there will shortly be a call for papers for
the 10th International Congress on Information and Communication
Technologies in Tourism, ENTER 2003, which is organised by IFITT. It is
acceptable for shorter papers submitted under this call to be more fully
worked-up for the journal.
