Business Process Management Journal
Call for Papers for A Special Issue On
Business Process Outsourcing
and Application Service Provision
In the 1980s and 1990s the success of Information Technology Outsourcing
has been dependent on effective management of business processes. Companies
who were able to manage and transform their business processes whilst
outsourcing non-core processes were able to make significant efficiency
gains. In recent years however, the issue of business processes management
has returned to center stage, most notably with new process management
challenges arising from the boundary-less e-economy. Now third
wave Application Outsourcing offers the potential for core business
processes or even mission-critical applications to be managed by a third
party. Application Service Providers (ASPs) can offer what they refer to as
Full Service Provision which in effect provides a firm with the
opportunity to outsource almost everything it does.
Papers are invited for a special edition of the Business Process Management
Journal (BPMJ) on Business Process Outsourcing and Application Service
Provision. The aim is to publish high quality original work highlighting
contemporary issues surrounding the emerging application service provision
(ASP) industry. Business process management, particularly with respect to
application and process integration appears to be a major area that will
impact upon the success or failure of this new business model. Contributed
papers may deal with, but are not limited to:
· ASP process management.
· Business Process Outsourcing.
· ASP Evaluation.
· ASP application integration.
· Business Service Platforms.
· Process Integration
· ASPs and Strategic Alliances/Partnerships.
· Managed Service Provision.
· Full Service Provision.
· Intra-organisational BP management using an ASP.
· ERP Outsourcing.
Full papers should be 3000-5000 words in length, single-spaced, full
justified, and in A4 Word format submitted electronically to the guest
editors Phil Seltsikas (phil.Seltsikas(a)brunel.ac.uk) and Wendy Currie
(wendy.currie(a)brunel.ac.uk) by December 28th 2001. All contributions will
be subjected to a rigorous blind review by at least two experts. Full
papers, following the BPMJ <http://www.emeraldinsight.com/bpmj.htm>
guidelines, should be submitted as two Word file attachments. File 1 -
contains a title page giving the name(s) and full address(es) of the
author(s), the title of the paper, its word count (maximum 5000 words), 5
keywords, and an abstract of 200 words. File 2 - contains the title of the
paper, 5 keywords, a 200-word abstract, and the full body of the paper. Any
information that reveals the identity of the author(s) should be removed.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Journal of Electronic Commerce Research (JECR)
Special Issue on Human Factors in Web-based Interaction
The Internet and WWW are revolutionizing our daily lives and the way
business is conducted. Since 1997, the Web has gradually evolved into a
true economy and a new frontier for business. In this new Internet age, the
design of a quality Web site is critical to the success of many businesses.
To attract and retain visitors, Web sites need to be human-centered, easy
and quick to navigate, and speak the visitor's language. User experience
with the Web site is also very important. The experience should be in line
with the user's goal and should feel natural to the user. Unfortunately,
principles of good Web design are not well understood, and problems such as
poor navigability, slow download times, and confusing content are common
among Web sites. Furthermore, Web design is complicated by the emergence of
small-screen (mobile) devices, where design principles may be substantially
different from those used to create traditional Web interfaces.
This Special Edition of the JECR "Call for Papers" addresses the needs for
a better understanding of the principles of good Web design as well as the
specific design criteria for different categories of Web sites (e.g.,
auction sites, content providers, virtual storefronts, individual home
pages, distance learning sites). Questions that are of interest to this
special issue include:
What are the criteria of a good E-Commerce Web site? How should one go
about designing an effective E-Commerce Web site? What are the different
approaches and dimensions to evaluate E-Commerce Web usability? Which
approaches and dimensions are most appropriate for evaluating different
E-Commerce Web sites? What are the challenges and issues involved in the
design and use of Web interfaces for small-screen (mobile) devices?
Other topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
Web usability assessments
Criteria for Web usability tests
Guidelines for effective Web design and graphical user Web interface
Systematic approaches for Web design and evaluation
Design metrics for E-Commerce Web pages
Design principles for traditional E-Commerce Web versus wireless
E-Commerce Web
Designing interactive E-Commerce Web sites
Multi-dimensional visualization for E-Commerce Web sites
Designing trustworthy and credible E-Commerce Web sites
Design and evaluation of Web interface for negotiation and auction
Design and evaluation of Web interface for any-to-any collaboration
Evaluation of effective Web design for B2B, B2C, C2C and C2B
E-commerce from the perspectives of buyers, sellers, and intermediaries
Evaluation of effective Web design for supply chain management
Web design principles for information and knowledge management
Important Dates:
Paper submission: November 1, 2001
Paper acceptance/rejection: January 31, 2002
Revised paper submission: March 31, 2002

Dear ISWorld colleagues,
Please join us in sunny Colorado this fall for the Group 2001 conference.
The conference pre-registration deadline is September 1. An overview is
provided below and details are on the websites shown.
******************************************************************
GROUP 2001: International Conference on Supporting Group Work
September 30 - October 3, 2001, Boulder, Colorado, USA
http://www.acm.org/siggroup/conferences/group01
Early Registration Deadline: September 1, 2001
Sponsor: ACM SIGGROUP
GROUP 2001 is a forum for researchers and practitioners who are interested
in computer-based systems that support groups, organizations and other
social networks. Relevant issues include the design, implementation,
deployment, and evaluation of the effects of these systems.
The expanding functionality of group support systems creates new use
opportunities. However, the integration of technology with social
practices can be challenging. Additionally, the growing influence of the
Internet, mobile and ubiquitous computing, agent systems, and virtual
reality also influence group/organizational structures and processes.
These technologies are exciting, but their technological and social
integration raises many questions for a challenging new research agenda.
GROUP 2001 integrates two themes of research: modeling and implementation
issues, and the organizational and behavioral considerations for
supporting group work. We invite participation from researchers and
practitioners interested in these issues.
The conference will take place in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, at the base
of the Rocky Mountains. In addition to an exciting program of workshops,
panels, and over thirty papers, plenary speakers include Stan Deetz,
author of Democracy in an Age of Corporate Colonization: Developments in
Communication and the Politics of Everyday Life.
Conference Chair: Clarence (Skip) Ellis, University of Colorado, Boulder
Program Co-Chairs: Tom Rodden, Lancaster University, and Ilze Zigurs,
University of Nebraska at Omaha
