Subject: Call For Papers, OES-SEO 2001, 14-15 September 2001, Roma, Italy

CALL FOR PAPERS
The 2nd International Workshop on Open Enterprise Solutions:
Systems, Experiences, and Organizations (OES-SEO 2001)
14-15 September 2001, Luiss "Guido Carli" - Roma, Italy
http://www.luiss.it/cersi/oesseo2001
IMPORTANT DATES
Regular and short papers due: 21 May 2001
Industrial extended abstract due: 11 June 2001
Paper acceptance notification: 9 July 2001
Camera-ready due: 23 July 2001
History:
This event is the continuation of the Enterprise Management
and Resource Planning System - EMRPS'99 Workshop that took
place in Venice, at Centro Studi San Salvador (proceedings
and additional information can be found in
http://leks.iasi.rm.cnr.it/emrps99 ).
For this continuation we decided to change the name, to give
a broader scope to the event, and gear it more towards the
business management community.
Workshop Theme:
Virtual Organisations and Innovative OESs: "Open Enterprise
Solutions" (e.g., virtual & network-based organization platforms,
methods and tools for process modeling & engineering, knowledge
sharing and management techniques, advanced integrated information
systems, workflow management systems) represent a major
breakthrough for enterprises and their way of doing business.
These solutions allow the creation of "open workplaces" and/or
"marketplaces" and are frequently based on systems for Resource
Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Supply
Chain Management (SCM).
It is important to note that the main innovation brought by such
kinds of enterprise solutions to support internal and external
business processes is not in the technological aspects, since
they do not require the most recent ICT tools (although they can
benefit from them), but on the way an enterprise, or a network of
them, is organized and operated.
In fact, the main issues concern the full integration of the
enterprise information asset and its alignment to the actual state
of the business.
This is achieved through an extensive, systematic, and integrated
approach to business process modeling and automation, that
potentially impacts on every aspect of enterprise activities and
organisation. To exploit the potential benefits of such systems
to enterprises, new methods and tools are needed for:
- requirement engineering (analysis, specification and management),
enterprise modeling (notations, methods and tools), business process
modeling and re-engineering, workflow modeling
- analysis and specification of complex domains, enterprise ontologies,
enterprise knowledge-bases and knowledge management
- enterprise organisation and management (virtual organisations,
dynamic extended enterprises, smart organisations, open workplaces)
- market mediation and virtual trading (portals, auction, brokerage,
virtual trade fairs, open marketplaces, on-line banking and financial
services), OES and technologies in small- and medium- sized firms
- quantitative methods for assessment and planning (metrics and
tools), impact analysis of business process change, enterprise and
business process simulation
- component-based development and technologies for OES, legacy
systems and OES interoperability, OES implementation methods,
commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), frameworks, customisable application
platforms, product lines, methods for middleware integration,
datawarehousing and decision support systems
The objectives of this workshop is to bring together scientists,
experts and practitioners who are active in the above areas
(topics are not restricted to them), either developing new solutions
or experimenting them on the field. Furthermore, given the wide scope
and the number of issues on which OESs impact, it is particularly
useful to gather competencies and experiences from different sectors,
with the intent to cross-fertilise ideas and experiences.
Workshop organisation:
The workshop will gather a limited number of participants (approx.80).
There will be a plenary meeting with a small number of
presentations for regular papers. A special session will be devoted
to the industrial presentations, where we expect contributions from
software vendors and reports on significant practical experiences.
Participants will also divide into tracks and working groups to
focus on specific topics, and a final plenary session to
present the results of discussion to the audience.
Submission guidelines
Submissions can be of two types:
- regular papers (maximum 5,000 words), focusing on the state of
the art or illustrating a position on a specific topic;
- short papers (max 2,000 words), presenting ongoing research
or industrial experience.
A full post-conference proceedings is planned.
For the scientific programme:
Submissions must be in electronic (RTF/PDF/MSword97) form,
should indicate whether it is a full paper or position paper,
and should be directed to either of the program co-chairs:
Arne Solvberg,
University of Trondheim, Norway
mailto:Arne.Solvberg@idi.ntnu.no
Leslie Willcocks
Warwick Business School, Coventry, UK
mailto:willcocksl@aol.com
For the industrial programme:
The industrial program will be organized into tracks (currently
two tracks are planned on "Virtual Trade Fairs" and on "e-logistic").
All persons contemplating submissions to any of these tracks are encouraged
to contact the appropriate track co-chair (names will be communicated asap)
prior to actual submission if any clarification or guidance is
sought.

http://cerbero.elet.polimi.it/wmi2001/subm.html
Journal publication:
--------------------
Selected workshop papers will be considered for publication on
a Special Issue of the Journal "Wireless Communications and
Mobile Computing", Wiley Publ.
Workshop general objectives
---------------------------
This workshop will explore the emerging area of Wireless Mobile Internet.
The tremendous success of Internet related technologies coupled with
higher wireless access speeds promised by new and emerging technologies
and standards such as GPRS, EDGE and UMTS brings about opportunities
to support new applications and services. The emergence of highly
miniaturized, compact, and sophisticated Personal Digital
Assistance (PDA) devices brought about by advances in display
technologies, circuit design, and embedded software technologies
together with promises of wireless access to the Internet brings
about new frontiers in usage and applications which represent
what has come to be known as pervasive computing.
The workshop focuses on major aspects of this revolution, with focus
on problems related to IP-based mobile Internet and problems related
to the wireless access to the Internet. On the networking front, the
emergence of mobility has introduced new challenging problems such as QOS,
control, management and routing. The emergence of new wireless access
technologies, ranging from Bluetooth to UMTS and satellite systems confronts
us on how to smoothly merge these diverse technologies. Together, they offer
new capabilities to applications such as mobile commerce,
information retrieval and such.
This workshop will be the first open forum to address these problems.
Leaders and thinkers of the field from academia, industry and research
laboratories will assemble to share their views on technical problems and
pave the road for the visions of tomorrow.
Detailed workshop topics
------------------------
Authors are invited to submit original papers describing current
research and visions of the future. Papers should address issues
related to wireless internet protocols, services and platforms, as
well as issues regarding transmission, access, and mobility technologies
specifically designed to support Internet traffic and applications. A list
of detailed topics includes, but is not limited to:
- Access protocols and modulation schemes
- Network architectures for wireless Internet access
- mobility management mechanisms
- Handover and admission control
- Traffic models for wireless internet applications
- QoS support in wireless access networks.

Call for Papers for the Mini Track
"INTEGRATED ENTERPRISE-WIDE SYSTEMS"

=================================================
AMCIS 2001 - Americas Conference on Information Systems
Boston, Massachusetts, USA, August 3rd - 5th, 2001
http://ecampus.bentley.edu/org/amcis2001/
=================================================
Following a very successful ERP mini track at last years AMCIS,
this mini track will serve topics from the area of Integrated
Enterprise-wide Systems. The IES track will consider many
types of articles: research in progress, completed research,
research case study, teaching case study, and curriculum
innovation.
ERP dominated the business world in the 1990s. At the end
of the century there was some doubt as to the future of ERP.
Today, we have observed a significant transformation and
continuous evolution of the top ERP vendors and we have
observed their total commitment to the Internet,
b2b integration, e-business, e-government ... in fact,
everything "e". Whereas the 1990s, and ERP, was about
integration within the organization, today the attention
is focused on integration across organizations and particularly
to the end-user (e.g., mobile computing). ERP laid the framework
and the basic principles of integration, standardization, and
process-centering to continue to serve as the foundation for
business in the Internet era. The articles in this track, as a whole,
will likely reflect this evolution in research and practice. They can
cover all conference's major track areas: Technical, Organization,
Learning, and Curriculum/Professional Development. We will close
the mini track with a plenary session.
Possible Topics may include the following:
* Special Applications extending functionality of IES
* IES Design Futures
* Achieving worlds best practice in IES
* Educating with and about ERP
* Extending IES through Technology
* Adopting, Accepting, Delivering and Infusing IES throughout the
organisation
* Hosting IES applications: pro's cons and critical issues
* Systems Thinking and IES: a critical perspective
* Enterprise Application Integration Systems
* Political and Cultural Influences in the IES Life Cycle
* Cross Cultural Issues in Global IES implementations
* Achieving Strategic of Enterprise Systems
* Benefit Realisation with IES
* Organisational Barriers to IES Infusion
* Extending Enterprise Systems
* Process Optimisation: Issues, Models and Organisational Impacts
* Information Theory and Organisational Theory: Models for
Enterprise Systems Success
* Systems Thinking and Obtaining Business Benefit through IES
* Systems Optimisation: ERP and the Manufacturing Industry
* Curriculum innovation in Information Systems using IES
* Strategic Alliances between Consultants, Vendors and Industry:
the Knowledge Management Supply Chain.
