SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
We invite authors to submit high-quality research papers describing
significant, original, and not previously published results on Software
Engineering in any of the official CIbSE languages: English, Spanish, and
Portuguese.
The following paper categories are welcome.
Technical papers (not exceeding 15 pages): papers describing innovative
research on the conference's topics. Papers in this submission category
should describe a novel contribution to the topics and carefully support
novelty claims with citations to the relevant literature.
Technical papers will be evaluated by originality, soundness, relevance,
the importance of contribution, the strength of validation, quality of
presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work. If a submission
builds upon the previous work of the author(s), the novelty of the new
contribution must be described clearly concerning the previous work. In
addition, technical papers need to discuss openly how the results were
validated.
Emerging Ideas papers (not exceeding 8 pages): papers describing new,
non-conventional approaches that depart from standard practice on the
conference topics. They are intended to describe clear research ideas early
in the investigation.
Emerging ideas papers will be assessed primarily on their level of
originality and potential for impact on the field regarding promoting
innovative thinking. Hence, inadequacies in the state-of-the-art and the
pertinence, correctness, and impact of the idea must be described
precisely. While the idea described does not need to be fully validated, a
presentation of preliminary results that provide initial insights into the
feasibility and the impact of the idea is expected.
Any paper not in the scope of the conference, not following the formatting
guidelines, or was submitted or published in any other forum (conference or
journal) will be desk-rejected without review. All other submissions will
be peer-reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee.
Among the technical articles presented at the conference, a set of the best
articles will be selected for publication in a WoS-indexed journal.
Additionally, the best paper will receive an award certificate.
Submission
All papers must be submitted through EasyChair (
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023), using PDF format only.
Submissions must be formatted according to the style of the Brazilian
Computing Society for conference papers (
https://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/summary/169-templates-para-artigos…
).
The accepted papers will be included in the proceedings made available
online by the Digital Open Library of the Brazilian Computing Society - SOL
(https://sol.sbc.org.br/index.php/anais) and Curran Associates (
http://www.proceedings.com/) and later indexed by DBLP and Scopus.
At least one author of each accepted paper must register by the
camera-ready deadline. One registration corresponds to only one paper. An
author of each accepted paper must present in person, or the paper will be
excluded from the proceedings. If an author has more than one accepted
paper, paying 50% of the registration for the second and following
co-authored papers is possible.
Journal First
Authors of papers on the topics of interest of the conference and accepted
in Q1 or Q2 JCR journals are invited to present their research work at
CIbSE. This opportunity allows the authors to discuss their work with the
community and enrich the technical program of CIbSE. Presentations of
journal-first papers will be included in CIbSE 2023 main track.
The main evaluation criterion for selecting journal-first papers is the
description of original results that are not extensions of previous
conference papers. In addition, the paper must have been accepted for
publication in the journal no earlier than January 1st, 2022, and must not
have been presented at any other conference as a journal-first contribution.
At least one author per selected journal-first paper must register and
attend the conference to present it.
Authors interested in presenting journal first papers at CIbSE 2023 must
submit their proposals in PDF format through EasyChair (
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023). The following
information must be provided: (i) paper title; (ii) list of authors; (iii)
keywords; (iv) journal and information about its impact factor and its
rank; (v) DOI; (vi) abstract, and; (vi) a short statement on how the work
satisfies the criteria above.
Doctoral Symposium
The Doctoral Symposium aims at disseminating research-in-progress conducted
by novice researchers. A board of experts will discuss with the researchers
to suggest new perspectives and improvements to the Ph.D. theses.
The submitted research can address any of the CIbSE 2023 research topics.
Although it is not compulsory, we recommend that the research is at an
intermediate stage (~ 2nd year) so that experts’ suggestions could be
included in the Ph.D. work.
The suggested paper structure is as follows:
-
Introduction to the field of research and identification of the main
challenges therein
-
Explicit formulation of the research questions and objectives justifying
why they were chosen
-
Outline the current knowledge of the problem domain as well as the state
of existing solutions
-
Sketch of the research methodology that is being applied
-
Introduction of the proposed solution and the results achieved so far
-
The statement in what aspects the suggested solution is different or
better as compared to existing approaches
-
An indication of the outstanding issues and a description of the planned
next steps
-
Provision of a list of references
Doctoral Symposium papers shall be authored by the doctoral candidate
exclusively (thus, the supervisor's name should not be included). All
papers must be submitted in PDF format through EasyChair (
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cibse2023). Submissions must be
written in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Moreover, the papers must not
exceed eight pages and must be formatted according to the style of the
Brazilian Computing Society for conference papers (
https://www.sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/summary/169-templates-para-artigos…).
Accepted papers will be included in the proceedings of the conference. The
authors of accepted papers must register by the camera-ready deadline,
and the
author can present the paper online or in person (hybrid format).
EIbAIS
The Advanced Ibero-American School on Software Engineering (EIbAIS)
represents the CIbSE initiative to disseminate Software Engineering
knowledge in Ibero-America. It started as a natural evolution of the CIbSE
tutorials and short courses.
EIbAIS aims to promote a forum for discussions related to Software
Engineering and its related technologies and theoretical foundations via
the participation of practitioners, undergraduate and graduate students,
and researchers. The lectures are presented by volunteers contributing to
the CIbSE community and spreading Software Engineering knowledge in
Ibero-America.
EIbAIS is organized into two categories of sessions: state-of-the-practice
and state-of-the-art modules.
The modules regarding the state-of-the-practice offer discussions on topics
of general interest and usually represent local demand. These modules
support knowledge sharing and practical issues with the participants,
presenting evidence-based software engineering results to the audience.
Examples of state-of-practice topics include User-Centered Design, DevOps,
Internet of Things, Microservices, and Software Engineering for Data
Science.
The modules regarding the state-of-the-art offer discussion on topics of
prospective interest and usually represent the perspectives of the Software
Engineering research & innovation community. In addition, these modules
intend to provide information on ongoing and next-to-coming Software
Engineering technologies candidates that could represent breakthrough
concepts in the field. Examples of state-of-the-art topics include the same
topics of interest at the conference.
All participants participating in sessions will get a certificate of
participation indicating the modules, lecturers, and contents.
Industry Talks
The Industry Talks aim at providing the industry and practitioners with the
means to present and discuss their current work addressing real-world
applications of Software Engineering. Talk exploring best practices,
problems and solutions, emerging challenges in the industry, and other

Subject: [AISWorld] CfP: International Workshop on Big Data in Emergent
Distributed Environments @ ACM SIGMOD 2023
Date: Wed, 4 Jan 2023 11:05:29 +0100
From: Sven Groppe <groppe(a)ifis.uni-luebeck.de>

*************************************************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Big Data in Emergent Distributed Environments
(BiDEDE 2023)
In conjunction with ACM SIGMOD 2023
June 18 (Sunday), 2023, Seattle, WA, USA
Submission: February 26, 2023
Web: http://www.ifis.uni-luebeck.de/~groppe/bidede
*************************************************************************************
** Important Message on Covid-19 **
We will operate the workshop as a hybrid event, such that presenters and
participants can choose to participate in-person in Seattle (USA) or
remotely.
** Aims of the Workshop **
Today, new forms of distributed environments beyond Cloud Computing
occur that offer new kinds of applications, but pose new challenges for
data management. The recent efforts for serverless computing aim at
simplifying the process of deploying code in the Cloud into production
by hiding scaling, capacity planning and maintenance operations from the
developer or operator. Other initiatives work on avoiding the
communication to the Cloud by deploying and running environments for
data processing near data sources in Internet-of-Things scenarios (e.g.,
fog and edge computing) for large-scale smart homes, companies and
cities, and near the applications (e.g., Cloudlets for mobile
applications and Offline First technologies for web applications).
Research on distributed data management evolves addressing new
challenges specific to these new environments. Properties of emergent
distributed environments regarding capabilities of nodes, bandwidth for
communication, battery lifetime of nodes, reliability of nodes and
communication, and heterogeneity of configurations impact data
management mechanisms and approaches, such as those for fault tolerance,
replication, resource provisioning, buffer management, query processing
and optimization, and transaction management. In addition, federated
approaches and polystores spanning over several emergent distributed
environments also remain research challenges based on the need for
combining these different distributed environments into one distributed
runtime environment for easy handling of Big Data in different models,
and for globally optimizing data management tasks across these different
environments.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together academic researchers and
industry practitioners to discuss the challenges and solutions,
including new approaches, techniques and applications, that
significantly would advance the state of the art of Big Data in emergent
distributed environments.
** Categories of Papers **
The workshop solicits papers of the following categories:
- Research Papers propose new approaches, theories or techniques related
to Big Data in emergent distributed environments including new data
structures, protocols and algorithms. They should make substantial
theoretical and empirical contributions to the research field.
- System Papers describe new data management tools, stream processing
engines, databases and other systems, which are able to handle Big Data
in emergent distributed environments.
- Experiments and Analysis Papers focus on the experimental evaluation
of existing approaches including data structures and algorithms for Big
Data in emergent distributed environments and bring new insights through
the analysis of these experiments. Results of Experiments and Analysis
Papers can be, for example, showing benefits of well-known approaches in
new settings and environments, opening new research problems by
demonstrating unexpected behavior or phenomena, or comparing a set of
traditional approaches in an experimental survey.
- Application Papers report practical experiences on applications of Big
Data in emergent distributed environments. Application Papers might
describe how to apply technologies to specific application domains with
big data demands in emergent distributed environments like social
networks, web search, e-business, collaborative environments,
e-learning, medical informatics, bioinformatics and geographic
information systems.
- Vision Papers identify emerging new or future research issues and
directions, and describe new research visions having demands for Big
Data in emergent distributed environments. The new visions will
potentially have great impacts on society.
- Demo Papers deal with innovative systems and applications for Big Data
in emergent distributed environments. These papers describe a showcase
of the proposed system/application, but may also explain the novelty of
the system's architecture. We are especially interested in
demonstrations having a WOW-effect.
The length of papers must be within 4 pages to 6 pages. Accepted papers
will be published in the ACM Digital Library and presented as oral
presentations.
** Topics of Interest **
We are interested in all issues concerning the management of data to be
processed in emergent environments such as the following:
- Cloud Computing
- Serverless Computing
- Cloud Functions
- App Engines
- Cloud Runs
- Post-Cloud Computing
- Cloudlet
- Fog Computing
- Edge Computing
- Cloud-Edge Continuum - Dew Computing
- Offline First
- Smart Home/Companies/Cities
- Quantum Computing
The Data Management issues to be solved in the emergent environments
include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Query Processing and Optimization
- Transaction Management
- Fault Tolerance Mechanisms
- Cloud Data Warehouses
- Distributed Databases
- Federation/Polystore Architectures
- Data Lakes
- Artificial Intelligence in Big Data Environments

*Society 5.0*
*Human centeredness in a cyber-physical society*
*3rd Conference - *5^th to 7^th *June 2023*
University of Pretoria, South Africa
Conference Center Future Africa
Following an era of fast-paced evolution of digital technologies,
digital disruption and digital transformation, Society 5.0 refers to “A
human-centered society that balances economic advancement with the
resolution of social problems by a system that highly integrates
cyberspace and physical space”. As Society 5.0 aims to tackle social
challenges and achieve a sustainable, inclusive, people-oriented
society, it also contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Society 5.0 advocates the adoption of digital technologies to increase
global prosperity. The cyber-physical space consists of interconnected
systems and devices, collecting and sending data. A human-centred
society demands the inclusion of the human when considering applications
and interactions in the cyber-physical space. This special issue focuses
on aspects of interconnectedness and interaction – where the human in
this potentially complex interaction is investigated and considered
through the application of different lenses and interdisciplinary
fields. The aim of this enquiry is to design and develop technological
products and services that not only meet human needs, but that also
consider the human experience when engaging in the cyber-physical space
and that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
All research submissions will go through a double-blind review process
conducted by an international review panel. Your submission will be
assessed anonymously by at least two reviewers and managed by the track
chairs and program committee. Practice track submissions will be handled
by the conference chairs.
The accepted full research papers will be included in a volume of EPiC
Computing as the Society 5.0 proceedings – see

* The Applications of Systems Analysis and Design Models in Less
Developing and Developing Countries
* Sustainability and Social Fairness in Context of Information System Design
* Exploring the Phenomenon of Low Code Development Platforms
Systems Analysis and Design (SAND) - General Track Description:
There are many and varied aspects of SAND, both traditional approaches
and emerging perspectives, with new technologies increasingly
incorporated into our everyday work and personal lives and the growing
digitalization of organizations and workplaces. New challenges (e.g.,
digital transformation, changes in technology expectations as we start
to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, etc.) continue to require our
attention to the analysis and design efforts providing opportunities for
both research and practice.
Systems Analysis involves examining business problems (opportunities)
and identifying possible solutions; systems design includes the
identification, specification, and implementation of an information
technology solution. The combined field of Systems Analysis and Design
(SAND) deals with all issues related to the development of systems and
is of central importance to the Information Systems discipline,
including understanding how businesses can create value with new digital
technologies. The SAND track provides a forum for discussing research
related to systems development tools, methodologies, and other
activities throughout the systems development life cycle (SDLC). This
includes requirements determination, modeling techniques and languages
(including AI and machine learning capabilities), agile systems
development practices, DevOps and related implementation approaches,
empirical evaluation of analysis and design methods, user involvement in
systems development, open-source development, design of systems
architecture, and other technical and organizational issues in systems
development.
SAND topics include, but are not limited to:
* Systems Analysis and Design: Methodologies and Design Processes
* Systems Analysis and Design: Empirical Evaluations, Modeling Methods,
Techniques, and Languages
* Systems Analysis and Design: Requirements Elicitation, Modeling, and
Validation
* Analysis and Design for Service-Oriented Enterprises
* Micro-service-based Development (DevOps, etc.)
* Contemporary Issues in Agile Development
* Strategic Software Management: Issues, Experiences, and Theory
* Technical and Managerial Issues in Open Source Development
* User Participation and Involvement in Information Systems Development
* Impact of Systems Analysis and Design on IS use (e.g., adoption,
information quality)
* Comparative Analysis of SAND Approaches and Techniques
* Application of SAND concepts and principles beyond IS development
(e.g., in data analytics)
* Organizational Issues in Systems Analysis and Design
* General Systems Analysis and Design
* New and Emerging SAND Tools and Approaches (especially as used for
AI/ML, Blockchain, Analytics, IoT/AoT, etc.)
* History of SAND

Mini-Track Information
Mini-Track: The Applications of Systems Analysis and Design Models in
Less Developing and Developing Countries
Many organisations everywhere around the globe, including those in
developing regions, are intimately involved in developing and
implementing their Information Systems (IS) projects. To admiringly
develop these IS projects, those organisations have spent lots of
funding and time to ensure they are fitted with the latest system design
and analysis methods. Nonetheless, the literature is still scarce, with
published evidence showing that these companies claim to have
successfully used these acquired analysis and design techniques.
Consequently, these intricate system analysis and design models endorsed
in developed nations may only remain theoretical with limited use.
Moreover, many of these system analysis and design techniques had never
succeeded in the claimed benefits made when they were acquired, which
begs the principal research question of the present deployment state of
system analysis and design in these companies, particularly in the less
developing and developing regions. Mini-Track Chairs are:

Mini-Track: Sustainability and social fairness in context of information
system design
Information technology, and sciences are critical levers of societal
transformation to achieve sustainable development. Digital technologies
especially can pose a threat to the environment and society, but they
can also pave the way out of crises. Thus, information systems (IS)
research, which investigates the application of information technology
in organizations to support operations, management and decision-making,
needs to pay particular attention to achievement of the UN Sustainable
Development Goals. However, research and practice on this crucial topic
are mainly lacking, especially since the field is experiencing dynamic
development. For example, little consideration is given to the needs and
the involvement of developing countries or minorities in IS development,
or to the energy consumed while producing hardware. There is,
furthermore, still a lack of sufficient framework conditions to ensure
non-discrimination as early as technology development. Both policymakers
and, in particular, companies are responsible here. Mini-Track Chairs are:

Mini-Track: Exploring the Phenomenon of Low Code Development Platforms
> From the early start of the IS discipline, practices, organization, and management of IS Development, have been central research areas. New techniques and methods are becoming popular to develop systems as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially with business development goals in mind. However, in practice, IS development projects continue to fail at a high rate, as measured by delays, time and budget overruns, and the inability to meet expected functionality and quality. Low code development platforms (LCDPs) may be a solution to overcome these as they allow the quick development and deployment of applications without the need for a programmer. This mini-track provides a forum for discussing research related to LCDPs based on a phenomenon-driven approach. We seek papers that focus on organizational, group, and individual levels analysis of LCDPs. We invite submissions based on conceptual/theoretical or empirical studies using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods. Mini-Track Chairs are:

About CHITA
CHITA is an annual research summit and doctoral consortium that gathers
prominent scholars in a multidisciplinary setting. CHITA focuses on the
increasing role, importance and impact of analytics and health
information technology in improving individual and population health,
and health system quality and performance. Each year, the conference
attracts over 100 scholars and thought leaders from more than 40
institutions. CHITA provides a forum for researchers to disseminate
their work and network within a growing and vibrant community. This
conference fosters collaboration between academia, government and
industry to bridge research, policy, and practice.
Papers are solicited on a wide range of topics including, but not
limited to: Health IT's adoption and impact; Artificial Intelligence
(AI) for healthcare, Healthcare analytics and big data; Health
information exchange and interoperability; New IT enabled organizational
forms and delivery models; mHealth and patient empowerment; and Quality
transparency and public reporting.
There is special interest this year in the following topics: AI
applications for healthcare; Adoption and integration of analytics;
Priority populations; Population health management; Cybersecurity;
Behavior (both of providers and patients). Papers that include a focus
on themes of fairness in AI for AHRQ priority populations (e.g., those
with multiple chronic conditions, racial/ethnic minorities) will receive
special consideration. A particular emphasis for this year’s conference
is on advancing knowledge about fair and responsible artificial
intelligence for health.
