CALL FOR PAPERS:

Implikationen in Technologieprojekte (PRINT)

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
HCI researchers have contributed to the field of interaction design
beyond the specific technologies they develop with (other) design
knowledge such as design methods, patterns, heuristics, principles, and
guidelines. Several other forms of intermediate-level knowledge have
also been articulated for HCI as a whole, such as bridging concepts and
strong concepts, as well as design critiques and annotated portfolios.
Recently, this intermediate-level knowledge – residing between theory
and artefact – has been suggested as a specific, lasting contribution
of design research to interaction design. Developing intermediate-level
knowledge can be seen as a way to develop a research field further,
providing an opportunity to build up knowledge over multiple artefacts
and projects.
As the Child-Computer Interaction field is maturing, we can see the
intermediate-level knowledge space getting increasingly populated, for
instance with specific methods and tools. However, there seem to be
fewer design patterns, design critiques, strong concepts or annotated
portfolios.
In this special issue we invite researchers and practitioners to
contribute with original papers about their endeavours to develop or
actively engage with intermediate-level knowledge for the CCI field. We
also invite researchers to discuss and question whether
intermediate-level knowledge is necessarily the right way forward for
the maturation of the field, and possibly suggest alternative ways of
extracting and communicating design knowledge for CCI from either
theories or artefacts within CCI or closely related fields.
-----------------------------------------------------------
*Topics of Interest*
-----------------------------------------------------------
• examples of approaches to developing intermediate-level knowledge in CCI
• various forms of intermediate-level knowledge in CCI from a generative
perspective, meaning that it has lead to new design ideas and possibilities.
• approaches to determine generative power of different types of
intermediate-level knowledge
• alternative approaches and critiques to intermediate-level knowledge

Interaction with games is considered to have positive effects on our
cognitive, emotional, social abilities and motivation (5, 9, 10, 13, 15, 22,
30). It isn’t surprising, then that our reality and lives are increasingly
becoming game-like (6). This is not limited to the fact that digital games
have become a pervasive part of our lives, but perhaps most prominently with
the fact that activities, systems and services that are not traditionally
perceived as game-like are becoming either intentionally or unintentionally
gameful (4, 6, 10, 13, 14).
Intentional gamification refers to a “process of transforming any activity,
system, service, product or organizational structure into one which affords
positive experiences, skills and practices similar to those afforded by
games, and is often referred to as the gameful experience. This is commonly
but optionally done with an intention to facilitate changes in behaviours or
cognitive processes. As the main inspirations of gamification are games and
play, gamification is commonly pursued by employing game design” (6).
Gamification has become an umbrella concept that, to varying degrees,
includes and encompasses other related technological developments such as
serious games (3), game-based learning (12, 24), exergames & quantified-self
(8, 9, 21), games with a purpose/human-based computation games (17, 28), and
persuasive technology (20).
Secondly, gamification also manifests in a gradual, albeit unintentional,
cultural, organizational and societal transformation stemming from the
increased pervasive engagement with games, gameful interactions (6), game
communities and player practices. For example, recently we have witnessed
the popular emergence of augmented reality games (16; 17) and virtual
reality technologies (2, 29) that enable a more seamless integration of
games into our physical reality. Case in point are urban spaces that are
increasingly becoming playgrounds for different games and -play activities.
While location-based games such as Pokémon Go (1) were able to attract
millions of players, concepts such as Playable Cities (19) and Urban
Gamification (26) highlight the large scale changes that games are bringing
about in the smart cities of the future. Moreover, the media ecosystem has
also experienced a degree of ludic transformation: with user generated
content becoming an important competitor for large media corporations. This
transformation has led to the development of several emerging phenomena such
as the Youtube and modding cultures (23, 27) and esports (7, 25), that have
penetrated the cultural membrane allowing games to seep into domains
hitherto dominated by traditional media.

*CALL FOR PAPERS (CFP)*
*
1st International Workshop on Ontologies for Digital Humanities and
their Social Analysis (WODHSA)
WODHSA 2019 Webpage: http://www.loa.istc.cnr.it/WODHSA/
Part of The Joint Ontology WOrkshops (JOWO) Episode V: The Styrian
Autumn of Ontology.
The Joint Ontology WOrkshops (JOWO) is a venue of workshops that,
together, address a wide spectrum of topics related to ontology
research, ranging from Cognitive Science to Knowledge Representation,
Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Logic, Philosophy,
and Linguistics.
JOWO 2019 Webpage: https://www.iaoa.org/jowo/2019/
====================================
DEFINITION AND SCOPE OF WODHSA 2019
====================================
The purpose of the workshop is twofold: on the one hand, to gather
original research work about both application and theoretical issues
emerging in the elaboration of conceptual models, ontologies, and
Semantic Web technologies for the Digital Humanities (DH) and, on the
other hand, to collect studies on the philosophical and social impact of
such models.
Concerning the former aim, a plethora of heterogeneous and multi-format
data – including 3D models, photos, audio records, and documents on
paper – is currently available in the Digital Humanities domain. Such
huge amount of information, retrieved from different sources and
contexts, disseminated in different and often isolated places, asks for
principled methodologies and technologies to semantically characterize
and possibly integrate data and data models for analysis, visualization,
retrieval, and other purposes. Moreover, dedicated automated reasoning
tools allow one to prove the consistency of conceptual models and to
extract implicit information present in data to gain a deeper knowledge
of the application domain at stake. Hence, research efforts towards the
application or use of reasoning engines is of vital relevance.
With respect to the second aim, the workshop welcomes contributions that
look at ontologies and conceptual models for the DH from a broader
philosophical or sociological perspective and contextualize them within
the debate on digital technologies or models in philosophy or science
and technology studies (STS). The contributions are expected to analyze
ontologies and conceptual models for the Digital Humanities, i.e., to
shed some light on the (social, economic, political, etc.)interests that
drive the development and adoption of computer models in the DH and the
impact on the involved stakeholders and society at large.
The complementary character of these two kinds of contributions should
allow both modelers and users to be more aware of the modeling choices
behind models and applications and of the theories that constitute the
background of such choices. This would enhance transparency and
reliability of the adopted models and thus understanding and trust on
the side of stakeholders and users.
Examples of research questions which would be interesting to discuss at
the workshop:
*
What are the current challenges concerning the management of
knowledge or data for the Digital Humanities?
*
What is the state of art about the use of ontologies and Semantic
Web technologies in the Digital Humanities?
*
How do we model, characterize, and possibly integrate knowledge and
data for the Digital Humanities?
*
What are the core concepts and relations that ontologies for the
Digital Humanities need to cover? Are these concepts well
conceptualized and represented in the ontologies currently available?
*
Can foundational ontologies or theories of formal ontology (e.g.,
mereology, theories of events, objects, qualities, etc.) support
knowledge representation or data management tasks for the Digital
Humanities?
*
How do we deal with the temporal dimension of Digital Humanities
data sets, e.g., with the representation of historic events and past
objects?
*
How do we deal with uncertain or fuzzy information in DH domains
(e.g, uncertain discovery place of an archaeological find, fuzzy
execution date of an artwork, etc.)?
*
Is there the need for coordinated national or international efforts
towards the integration of ontologies or data models for the DH?
*
Which is the impact of the use of digital technologies for scholars
in the humanities, and for users and stakeholders?
*
Which is the impact of modeling choices on the DH domains at stake
and on their users and stakeholders?
===================
TOPICS OF INTEREST
===================
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
*
The use of ontologies, conceptual models,or knowledge graphsfor
modeling, accessing, integrating, or reasoning over knowledge and
data for e-culture portals, museums, archives, and libraries, among
others. Research domains of interest include history, history of
arts, theatre, literature, archeology, musicology, natural and
cultural heritage (including architectural heritage), among others.
*
The use of standard conceptual models for the DH such asCIDOC-CRMor
FRBR. The workshop welcomes the analysis, comparison, or integration
of such standard models with respect to foundational ontologies such
as BFO, DOLCE, or UFO among others, as well as formal ontology theories.
*
The use of ontology design patternsto support the development of
ontologies for the DH.
*
The use of reasoninginference mechanisms to guarantee data
consistency with respect to knowledge models or to reveal hidden
information stored in the data.
*
Research and application challenges arising from the
digitalizationof DH data and their management through ontology-based
information systems or applications.
*
The development of ontology-based information systemsfor the DH. We
particularly welcome research or application papers exploiting the
reasoning capabilities of Semantic Web ontologies, or using
ontologies in tandem with relational databases (OBDAapproaches).
*
Sociologicalanalysis, modeling practices, and/or impact of the use
of computer-based technologies (e.g., virtual reality for museums)
in the DH.
*
Philosophical analysis of models and modeling practices in the DH.
*
Social studieson the policies towards thestandardizationof
ontologies in the DH.

http://www.ficloud.org/2019/
Technical co-sponsorship: IEEE-CS TCI
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Internet of Things (IoT) vision is to provide a dynamic and global
network infrastructure which is characterized by intelligent and self
configuring capabilities. IoT is considered as an integral part of the
future Internet. It is based on interoperable communication protocols in
order to enable the interaction and integration of virtual as well as
physical Things such as computers, smart devices, sensors, cars,
refrigerators, food packages, medicines, etc. Things can be seamlessly
integrated into the information network and interaction can be made
through the provision of intelligent interfaces. In not so distant
future, IoT will be forcing its way into every aspect of our lives and
technologies including smart homes, smart cities, environment and
nature, green energy, food, medicine, automotive, aerospace and
aviation, telecommunication, and so on.
IoT is generally characterized by real world and small Things, limited
capacity, constrained devices and the consequential issues such as less
reliability, security and privacy. Cloud computing on the other hand
deals mainly with virtual world and has unlimited capabilities in terms
of storage and processing power. Thus cloud and IoT are the main
complementary aspects of the future Internet. IoT can benefit from the
unlimited capabilities and resources of cloud computing. Similarly,
cloud can benefit from IoT by extending its scope to deal with real
world things in a more distributed and dynamic manner.
The theme of this conference is to promote the state of the art in
scientific and practical research of the IoT and cloud computing. It
provides a forum for bringing together researchers and practitioners

The Third International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining
(WPDM 2019)
http://sara.unisalento.it/~cafaro/WPDM2019/
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Third Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining (WPDM 2019)
will be held in conjunction with The 19th International Conference on
Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA 2019),
http://www.iccsa.org
Saint Petersburg University, Saint Petersburg, Russia July 1-4 2019
Submission Deadline extended to: March 3, 2019
SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
The Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining is an international
forum which brings together researchers and practitioners working on
different high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms, enabling
novel applications. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process
huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting
information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms
are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways.
Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is
improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the
demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the
main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data
related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing
interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining
algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main
memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel
algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory
requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order
to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive
datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good
data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the
workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related
to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O
costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging
ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on
high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications.
Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data
mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems
which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary
applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in
high-performance data mining algorithms an
d applications, and related topics.
The WPDM Workshop topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Parallel data mining algorithms using MPI and/or OpenMP
- Parallel data mining algorithms targeting GPUs and many-cores accelerators
- Parallel data mining applications exploiting FPGA
- Distributed data mining algorithms
- Benchmarking and performance studies of high-performance data mining
applications
- Novel programming paradigms to support high-performance computing for
data mining
- Performance models for high-performance data mining applications and
middleware
- Programming models, tools, and environments for high-performance

Subject: [AISWorld] AMCIS 2019 Mini Track: Business Simulation in
Higher Education
Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2019 09:30:12 +0000
From: Anabela Mesquita <abmesquita(a)gmail.com>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
CC: Paulino Silva <paulinosilva123(a)gmail.com>
Dear colleagues
There are still a few days to submit your work to the AMCIS 2019
Mini-track, Business Simulation in Higher Education.
The AMCIS 2019 conference will take place in Cancún, México, between
15th and 17th of August 2019.
Track: IS in Education, IS Curriculum, Education and Teaching Cases (SIGED)
Minitrack 1: Business Simulation in Higher Education
Nowadays, the development of soft skills is considered as important as
the more technical and theoretical knowledge in order to become
employable and competitive. Employers are looking for professionals that
possess practical knowledge and understand clearly the business where
they are entering in. One possible solution to help students to develop
those capabilities is through the use of business simulations as these
simulate the real situation, where the student potentially might enroll,
helping key actors to feel and learn as if they were in the world of
work. This mini track is an opportunity for educators, researchers,
students and practitioners to share and exchange ideas, techniques and
experiences regarding business simulation, its development, application
and pedagogical approaches.
More and more, the world of work is demanding soft skills as a requisite
to enter the job market. As a consequence, higher education institutions
are introducing changes in the pedagogical approaches and teaching
methods in order to meet these needs and expectations. One solution that
is being used is the incorporation of Business Simulation methodologies
in the most diverse courses, including management and accounting at
undergraduate and graduate levels, and in MBAs. These type of solutions
enables students to develop important skills, together with practical
knowledge. Competences such as teamwork, critical thinking and analysis,
innovation and creativity are some examples of what can be developed and
is valued by employers, nowadays. This mini track provides an
opportunity for educators, researchers, students and practitioners to
exchange ideas, techniques and experiences concerning the use of
Simulations as a way to acquire practical knowledge and develop soft
skills. Different submission topics and formats are welcome, ranging
from more theoretical papers describing the approaches behind those
games and simulations, to papers presenting technological possibilities
and even the description of the use of such solutions in higher education.
Suggested topics related with Business Simulation:
Games and business simulation in education
• Virtual learning environments
• Available solutions and technologies
• Pedagogical and methodological issues
• Assessment of the learning outcomes
• Teaching cases
• Theories behind the development and use of business simulation
