This Monday last day for submissions!!!
******************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Semantic Big Data (SBD 2019)
In conjunction with ACM SIGMOD 2019
July 5, 2019, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Submission: February 11, 2019 (This Monday!!)
Web: http://www.ifis.uni-luebeck.de/~groppe/sbd
******************************************************
** Aims of the Workshop **
The current World-Wide Web enables an easy, instant access to a vast
amount of online information. However, the content in the Web is
typically for human consumption, and is not tailored for machine
processing. The Semantic Web is hence intended to establish a
machine-understandable Web, and is currently also used in many other
domains and not only in the Web. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has
developed a number of standards around this vision. Among them is the
Resource Description Framework (RDF), which is used as the data model of
the Semantic Web. The W3C has also defined SPARQL as the RDF query
language, RIF as the rule language, and the ontology languages RDFS and
OWL to describe schemas of RDF. The usage of common ontologies increases
interoperability between heterogeneous data sets, and the proprietary
ontologies with the additional abstraction layer facilitate the
integration of these data sets. Therefore, we can argue that the
Semantic Web is ideally designed to work in heterogeneous Big Data
environments.
We define Semantic Big Data as the intersection of Semantic Web data and
Big Data. There are masses of Semantic Web data freely available to the
public - thanks to the efforts of the linked data initiative. Many of
these freely available Semantic Web datasets are accessible via SPARQL
query servers called SPARQL endpoints. Everyone can submit SPARQL
queries to SPARQL endpoints via a standardized protocol, where the
queries are processed on the datasets of the SPARQL endpoints and the
query results are sent back in a standardized format. Hence, not only
Semantic Big Data is freely available, but also distributed execution
environments for Semantic Big Data are freely accessible. This makes the
Semantic Web an ideal playground for Big Data research.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together academic researchers and
industry practitioners to address the challenges and report and exchange
the research findings in Semantic Big Data, including new approaches,
techniques and applications, make substantial theoretical and empirical
contributions to, and significantly advance the state of the art of
Semantic Big Data.
** Categories of Papers **
The workshop solicits papers of different categories:
- Research Papers propose new approaches, theories or techniques related
to Semantic Big Data including new data structures, algorithms and whole
systems. They should make substantial theoretical and empirical
contributions to the research field.
- Experiments and Analysis Papers focus on the experimental evaluation
of existing approaches including data structures and algorithms for
Semantic Big Data and bring new insights through the analysis of these
experiments. Results of Experiments and Analysis Papers can be, for
example, showing benefits of well-known approaches in new settings and
environments, opening new research problems by demonstrating unexpected
behavior or phenomena, or comparing a set of traditional approaches in
an experimental survey.
- Application Papers report practical experiences on applications of
Semantic Big Data. Application Papers might describe how to apply
Semantic Web technologies to specific application domains with big data
demands like social networks, web search, e-business, collaborative
environments, e-learning, medical informatics, bioinformatics and
geographic information system. Application Papers might describe
applications using linked data in a new way.
- Vision Papers identify emerging new or future research issues and
directions, and describe new research visions having demands for
Semantic Big Data. The new visions will potentially have great impacts
on society.
- Demo Papers deal with innovative systems and applications for Semantic
Big Data. These papers describe a showcase of the proposed
system/application, but may also explain the novelty of the system's
architecture. We are especially interested in demonstrations having a
WOW-effect.
For all categories (except for demo papers), we accept two different
types of papers: Short and Full papers. The length of full papers cannot
exceed 6 pages. The length of all other papers (i.e., short and demo
papers) cannot exceed 4 pages. Accepted full and short papers will be
presented in oral presentations. Demo papers will be presented as part
of a combined demo and poster session. All accepted full and short
papers will also be presented as posters in the combined demo and poster
session in order to increase interactivity and discussion with the audience.

IEEE COMPSAC 2019
Hosted by Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
July 15-19, 2019
Data-Driven Intelligence for a Smarter World
For Full CFP, please visit https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/2019/
COMPSAC is the IEEE Computer Society Signature Conference on Computers,
Software and Applications. It is a major international forum for academia,
industry, and government to discuss research results and advancements,
emerging challenges, and future trends in computer and software
technologies and applications. The theme of COMPSAC 2019 is Data-Driven
Intelligence for a Smarter World.
In the era of “big data” there is an unprecedented increase in the amount
of data collected in data warehouses. Extracting meaning and knowledge
from these data is crucial for governments and businesses to support their
strategic and tactical decision making. Furthermore, artificial
intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) makes it possible for
machines, processing large amounts of such data, to learn and execute
tasks never before accomplished. Advances in big data-related technologies
are increasing rapidly. For example, virtual assistants, smart cars, and
smart home devices in the emerging Internet of Things world, can, we
think, make our lives easier. But despite perceived benefits of these
technologies/methodologies, there are many challenges ahead. What will be
the social, cultural, and economic challenges arising from these
developments? What are the technical issue related, for example, to the
privacy and security of data used by AI/ML systems? How might humans
interact with, rely on, or even trust AI predictions or decisions
emanating from these technologies? How can we prevent such data-driven
intelligence from being used to make malicious decisions?
COMPSAC 2019, organized as a tightly integrated union of symposia, will
focus on technical aspects related these kinds of issues as part of the
”Intelligence” theme of the conference. The technical program will
include keynote addresses, research papers, industrial case studies, fast
abstracts, a doctoral symposium, poster sessions, and workshops and
tutorials on emerging and important topics related to the conference
theme.
Highlights of the conference will include plenary and specialized panels
that will address the technical challenges facing technologists who are
developing and deploying these data-driven intelligent systems and
applications. Panels will also address cultural and societal challenges
for a society whose members must continue to learn to live, work, and play
in the environments the technologies produce.
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research work, as well

Subject: [AISWorld] Special Issue on Big Data Analytics for
Sustainability in Information & Management
Date: Fri, 08 Feb 2019 20:34:43 +0800
From: Yue Guo <yueggcn(a)aliyun.com>

Special Issue on Big Data Analytics for Sustainability in Information &
Management
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/information-and-management/call-for-paper…
Uneven economic development, mass consumerism and unreasonable natural
or human resource utilization can lead to significant deleterious
outcomes, including problems such as pollution, climate change,
transportation disorder, social injustice, discrimination, crime, unfair
competition, and resource deficiency. Sustainability is a paradigm for
deliberating about the future in which environmental, societal and
economic considerations are all balanced in the pursuit of our improved
existence. Data-driven analytics has extensively penetrated both
academic and practical spheres. By harnessing its power in processing
large volumes of information, data analytics techniques help people to
discover undiscovered links and make better decisions. Predictive
techniques, such as those of machine learning (including artificial
intelligence and deep learning), can help to guide us in solving future
as well as current problems. Econometric techniques (including
difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, matching techniques)
allow us to learn causal relationships and their underlying mechanisms
in large scale observational data that span across periods of time.
However, as yet, insufficient effort has been invested into applying
these techniques to the emerging set of problems regarding sustainability.
The focus of this special issue is the application of data analytics to
understand better sustainability issues, and to inform stakeholders of
possible solutions. Large scale data’s potential impact on alleviating
sustainability issues hinges on several aspects. First, interactions
between people, resources, ecosystems and climate can be analysed using
data gathered from society and the environment. Second, interactions
between consumers, companies, suppliers and markets can be optimized for
sustainable development. Third, the inter-related impacts that the
business world and natural world have on each other also need to be
further investigated.
This special issue focuses on high quality, up-to-date technologies and
solutions related to data analytics for sustainability. To our
knowledge, it is the first special issue of its kind focusing on these
converging topics. We aim to serve as a special issue for researchers
all over the world to discuss their current work and recent advances in
this field. Both theoretical studies and state-of-the-art practical
applications are welcomed for submission. All submitted papers will be
thoroughly peer-reviewed and selected on the basis of both their quality
and their relevance to the theme of this special issue. Papers invited
for revision will be invited to present their research at a conference
held at King’s College London in June 2019.
The list of possible topics for this special issue includes, but is not
limited to:
1. The impacts of business operations on society and the environment
using fine-grained data.
2. Data analytics for equality, diversity and consumer protection.
3. Data analytics for improving health outcomes.
4. Data analytics for environmentally sustainable transportation systems.
5. Data analytics to achieve conformity to governmental regimes.
6. The application of data analytics for assessing environmental risks.
7. Data analytics for information security and resilience.
8. Data analytics for the circular economy.
9. The juxtaposition of data analytics in government and sustainability
regulation.
10. Data analytics for smart cities and homes.
11. Social networks, online sharing and data analytics.
12. Data analytics for economic growth, employment and income opportunities.
13. Data analytics for democracy, social justice/inclusion, and crime
fighting.
14. Big data driven approaches to collect and analyze large volumes of
information from emerging technologies (e.g., IoT, remote sensors,
wireless sensor networks, RFIDs, mobile)
Proposed Dates
Submission Deadline: 1st March 2019
Invitation to Revise Paper for Special Issue: 1st June 2019
Deadline for Revised Paper: 1st September 2019
Final Decision on Acceptance: 1st December 2019
