The authors will have 30 minutes to present their paper at
the conference.
The program committee will review and evaluate papers according to the
following criteria:
* Quantity and quality of novel content
* Relevance and interest to the Tcl/Tk community
* Suitability of content for presentation at the conference
Proposals may report on commercial or non-commercial systems, but
those with only blatant marketing content will not be accepted.
Application and experience papers need to strike a balance between
background on the application domain and the relevance of Tcl/Tk to
the application. Application and experience papers should clearly
explain how the application or experience illustrates a novel use of
Tcl/Tk, and what lessons the Tcl/Tk community can derive from the
application or experience to apply to their own development efforts.
Papers accompanied by non-disclosure agreements will be returned to
the author(s) unread. All submissions are held in the highest
confidentiality prior to publication in the Proceedings, both as a
matter of policy and in accord with the U. S. Copyright Act of 1976.
The primary author for each accepted paper will receive registration
to the Technical Sessions portion of the conference at a reduced rate.
Other Forms of Participation
The program committee also welcomes proposals for panel discussions of
up to 90 minutes. Proposals should include a list of confirmed
panelists, a title and format, and a panel description with position
statements from each panelist. Panels should have no more than four
speakers, including the panel moderator, and should allow time for
substantial interaction with attendees. Panels are not presentations
of related research papers.
Slots for Works-in-Progress (WIP) presentations and Birds-of-a-Feather
sessions (BOFs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis
starting in July 23, 2018. Specific instructions for reserving WIP

MINI-TRACK DESCRIPTION
As humans, we constantly need to make decisions about various aspects of
our lives--ranging from relatively minor decisions (such as choices
between two candy bars) to decisions with long-term ramifications (such
as choices between home financing options). At the same time, we face
cognitive limitations, and our decisions are influenced by various
heuristics and biases, either for the good or bad. In light of humans'
bounded rationality, the field of behavioral economics examines the
effects of psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social factors on
judgment and decision making of individuals and organizations. As
decisions are increasingly made in online environments, understanding
economic behavior in digital environments becomes ever more important.
Behavioral economics has reinforced the point that the context matters
when making judgments or decisions. Thus, people's decisions are not
only influenced by the content of choices but also the presentation of
choices. That is, the design of the decision environment can 'nudge'
people into certain behaviors. Coined by behavioral economists,
'nudging' describes how even minor changes to the decision environment
influence choices, typically unnoticed by the decision maker. As any
decision is influenced by the decision environment the presentation will
always (intentionally or unintentionally) influence how people actually
make their choices.
As decisions are increasingly made online, the concept of 'digital
nudging' extends 'nudging' to the digital environment, referring to both
the design and effects of nudges in digital decision environments--i.e.,
the use of user-interface design elements to guide people's behavior on
online platforms.
The main purpose of this minitrack is to explore and extend, as well as
exchange, research related to behavioral economics and nudging in the
context of information systems design and the digital economy.
Specifically, this mini-track aims to examine the design, main
applications, and effects of digital nudging in information systems
design, in particular, research with an emphasis on the effects of
interface design on users' behavior, judgment, and decision making in
Internet-based systems. We welcome papers that draw on or combine
behavioral research methods (e.g., experimentation, survey, case study,
action research), and design science approaches.
************************************************************************
TOPICS
* Applications of behavioral economics concepts to information system design
* Design of online choice architectures
* Information processing for decision making
* Influence of information presentation on consumption behavior (for
example, feedback mechanisms in website design and sustainable behaviors)
* Framing effects in website design
* Impact of anchoring effects on online judgment and decision making
* Impact of behavioral economics principles and website design
implementation on privacy and trust
* Issues related to behavioral design principles and security
* Impact of website design on loss aversion and risk perception/evaluation
* Impact of digital nudges on online judgment and decision making
* Website designs/elements that encourage rational thinking and/or nudge
users into certain behaviors
* Issues related to dynamic website design and interactive decision making
* Website design and preference building effects
* Cognitive, emotional, and social factors and information systems design
* Applications of behavioral economics principles in online platforms
that influence users' behaviors (for example, in online auctions and
e-marketplaces, crowdfunding platform, mobility platforms, and others)
* Ethical issues of digital nudging

Call for Participation:
2018 ASIS&T SIG-USE Symposium:
Moving Toward the Future of Information Behavior Research and Practice
To be held in Vancouver, Canada, November 10, 2018 (Saturday), 1:00 -
5:00 PM
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the 18th Annual SIG-USE
Research Symposium. The upcoming half-day SIG-USE Symposium will focus
on the future of information behavior research. It will be comprised of
Short Paper and Poster presentations, break-out group discussion
sessions, and Awards presentations. It is intended for students,
faculty, researchers, and information professionals who are interested
in information behavior and practices research and in the translation of
findings from this research area into professional practice. It is open
to both members and non-members of SIG-USE.
We live in an era of change in terms of the technologies, platforms, and
tools at our disposal. With these changes, we are also witnessing
changes in communication practices, in the meaning and form of
information, and in information behaviors. There has been a significant
global shift in the ways that information and knowledge is produced,
shared, and used. We have witnessed developments such as the
crowdsourcing of knowledge work, the use of new communication channels
in information diffusion activities, and the emergence of online
environments serving as "third places" and "information grounds". As we
consider the future, there are many ways that we might consider
information behavior research including users, application, contexts,
and methods to study information behavior and practice.
We welcome poster (500 words or less) and short paper (2000 words or
less) contributions that describe completed research and
research-in-progress, and that showcase empirical, conceptual,
theoretical, and methodological findings or rich practice cases and
demonstrations, from researchers, graduate students, and practitioners.
Our major goals include facilitating information exchange between and
among scholars and information professionals, serving as a forum for
scholars and professionals new to this area to engage critically with
the theme, and for scholars and practitioners alike to receive feedback
on preliminary work and works-in-progress.
Specific issues to be addressed depend on the interest of the
participants and the issues they bring into the workshop. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:
-Actors/users: How has the concept of the user/actor in information
behavior research changed over time? What effect has this had on the
ways that we study users' information behaviors, and on our efforts to
facilitate users' abilities to access and make use of information? How
can we facilitate equitable access and use of information across diverse
populations?
-Applications: New technologies offer opportunities for identity
construction and empowerment, or do they? How can information behavior
research address local and global issues relating to health,
environment, economics, and human rights, among others, creating value
for all?
-Contexts: Information behaviors occur in many contexts, including
within work and recreational settings, and as a part of everyday life.
They also arise out of needs in particular situations, such as in
response to health conditions, and may be triggered due to factors such
as serendipitous encounters. How do characteristics of organizations and
information society (e.g., cultural norms, legal frameworks,
communication structures, political hierarchies, etc.) influence the
access to and use of information and technologies?
-Methods: Users, applications, and the contexts in which information
behaviors occur are continually evolving. What does this mean for the
methods that we use to study information behavior, and moreover, for
practice?
-With all of these developments, we also encounter questions concerning
research ethics. Though the future brings new opportunities and
possibilities, concerns persist and questions arise as society evolves.
How have the roles of researchers and participants changed in this
evolving digital landscape?
Submission Categories:
Short Papers (2000 words or less):
- Will be followed by small group discussions, so submissions that
generate stimulating dialogue and exchange are ideal
- Tend to have richer discussion of the methods and results
- Provide more contextualization of the work within the background
literature
Posters (500 words or less):
- Provide an opportunity for more one-on-one feedback on early work and
work-in-progress
- Preliminary work is not required
Submissions should adhere to the following guidelines:
- Please access the submission website to upload your submission:
https://utk.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3lTWAmYnImINTo1
- Please submit an anonymized Word or PDF file.
- The deadline for submission is August 15, 2018
- We will send out notifications of acceptance by September 26, 2018.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Accepted documents will be
circulated prior to and following the Symposium, when possible.
Presenters who have their short paper accepted should plan on
presentations of up to 8 minutes in total. Short-paper presenters should
also expect to e-mail their slides in advance of the Symposium. Poster
presenters will stand next to their posters and present a short
30-second introduction to their research. Details of these requirements
will be provided after notifications of acceptance.
IMPORTANT DATES:
August 15, 2018, 11:59 pm (Anywhere on Earth): Submissions due
September 26, 2018: Notices of acceptance issued

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the emergence of the “Geospatial
Realm”. As the understanding that geospatial, or locational, data has value
for many organizations, the focus on this special type of data has also
increased. Workshop activities will be facilitated focusing on this
research area to discuss the “who, what, where, when, how, and why” of
participating in this burgeoning research domain. (Contact: Dan Farkas
- dfarkas(a)pace.edu <dfarkas(a)pace.edu>)*
*Tutorial: Social Media Operationalized for Locational Analytics: A
Hands-on Tutorial*
*Social media such as Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook, have become de facto
global communication channels to disseminate news, entertainment, and one’s
self-revelations. However, though these organizations provide real-time
data feeds that may be utilized in many ways, how does one actually go
about using these data? This workshop will provide hands-on instruction
regarding the collection, processing, and analysis of these data using
Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, Topic Modeling Techniques, and
Geographic Information Systems (GIS). (Contact: Brian Hilton
- brian.hilton(a)cgu.edu <brian.hilton(a)cgu.edu>)*
Details and Agendas will follow as we get closer to the conference.

Subject: [AISWorld] HICSS 2019 Final CfP Knowing What We Know: Theory,
Meta-analysis and Review
Date: Sun, 3 Jun 2018 06:18:42 +0000
From: Dirk Hovorka <dirk.hovorka(a)sydney.edu.au>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Call for Papers: HICSS-52 in beautiful Maui, HI!
Minitrack: Knowing What We Know: Theory, Meta-analysis and Review
(Organizational Systems and Technology track)
8-11 January, 2019
Grand Wailea Maui
http://hicss.hawaii.edu<http://hicss.hawaii.edu/>
Minitrack Chairs: Dirk Hovorka and Kai Larsen
The "Knowing What We Know: Theory and Review" mini-track invites
submissions that pursue approaches, methods and conceptual papers which
will advance the IS field ability to "know what it knows". Our ability
to understand, integrate and synthesize the exponentially growing body
of scientific literature in the social sciences is hampered by both
structural and social problems. These include a lack of standardization
for concepts and constructs across the fields and a lack of
infrastructure and powerful search and integration tools which would
enable researchers to perform meta-theorization. The aim of this
mini-track is to engage the disciplinary infrastructures other fields
have successfully progressed (e.g. metaBUS, the Human Behavior Project,
Medline and the Biological Science Database) that will enable IS to
better know what we know.
Research over the last decades has emphasized theory development in IS
and other social and behavioral science disciplines. The resulting
proliferation of theories and constructs has numerous redundancies,
which can be revealed through review, meta-theorization/meta-analysis
and interrogation of the theory discourse. Theory ontologies would
benefit the disciplines by identifying what we can now research given
what we already know. Theory synthesis or integration will inform social
and behavioral sciences research with a better understanding of
fundamental theories, help organize our theories to be accessible to
practice, and increase our understanding of the philosophical
commitments represented in their contextualization and use.
The scope of the papers for the mini-track is quite broad, including for
example, the development of theory ontologies, approaches to theory
integration, and meta-analytic/review approaches to building cumulative
theory. We also welcome approaches to the local contextualization of
theory where insight is gained into valuable distinctions.
Toward these ends, topics of interest in this mini-track include:
1. Approaches to theory meta-analysis, integration or aggregation of
social and behavioral science theories;
2. The theoretical ties between different disciplines (e.g. healthcare
and IS, and sustainability science and IS, energy informatics), or
parallel the trends in theorizing the same phenomenon;
3. Research on ontologies, taxonomies, frameworks, and categorizations
of constructs and variables used in system science theories;
4. Conceptual papers on an Social Science Infrastructure that would
support social sciences
5. Techniques for the extraction of constructs and relationships from
published papers
6. The use of natural language processing, data mining, and predictive
analytics to better understand and interrogate theories;
7. Discussion of the roles of theories used to explain, approaches used
to predict (e.g. neural nets and big data), and of theories of
understanding;
8. Exploration of the dependencies of constructs and variables;
9. Exploration of the boundaries of theory "domains."
This mini-track also has an associated ISWorld website devoted to
theories used in IS research (http://istheory.byu.edu/wiki/Main_Page) -
which won the 2005 AISWorldNet Challenge Award for the best website
based on AISWorldNet user voting. We intend to uphold this high standard
and advance the website further by increasing the synergy between
mini-track outcomes and website content.
