KNOWLEDGE, INNOVATION, AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SYSTEMS TRACK
8-11 January, 2019
Grand Wailea Maui
http://hicss.hawaii.edu
Track Chairs: Murray E. Jennex, David Croasdell
Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems recognizes the evolving
nature of work and society to being knowledge based. Competitive pressures
are forcing organizations to do more with less and to leverage all they
know to succeed. Knowledge systems are those systems developed to
facilitate collaboration, knowledge capture, storage, transfer and flow;
knowledge use; as well as to foster creativity and innovation. This track
explores the many factors that influence the development, adoption, use,
and success of knowledge systems. These factors include culture,
measurement, governance and management, storage and communication
technologies, process modeling and development. The track also looks at the
societal drivers for knowledge systems including an aging work force, the
need to distribute knowledge and encourage collaboration in widely
dispersed organizations and societies, and competitive forces requiring
organizations of all types to adapt and change rapidly. We invite papers
that address these or related issues. Special note that selected papers
will be fast tracked to the International Journal of Knowledge Management

Call for Papers
What is the role of knowledge management in practice? How do our theories
on knowledge management and organizational learning contribute to
real-world applications? While numerous journals focus exclusively on these
topics, and several information systems-oriented conferences feature KM and
OL-specific tracks, theory is at risk of drifting away from practice.
Although not specifically documented in the literature, there is a gap
between the knowledge systems research currently being conducted and the
needs and practical experiences of knowledge workers. We should be aware
that there is an active practitioner base of knowledge workers who develop,
implement, manage, and use knowledge management systems. Likewise, there
are countless practical perspectives on how to initiate, coordinate, and
monitor organizational learning processes that need to have a voice.
The goal of this minitrack is to provide this “bridge” between the academic
and theoretical knowledge management and learning scholars that develop
theory and the systems practitioner community that actually uses this
knowledge on a daily basis. This mini-track encourages two directions of
knowledge exchange. On the one hand, it addresses the question of how theory
informs and impacts practice. On the other hand, it sheds light on how
practice can influence theory. Methods can include – but are not limited
to- case study and action research.
Possible contributions regarding reports from the field in knowledge
management may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Best practices in using technology, processes, or personnel to promote:
1.1. Knowledge creation
1.2. Knowledge maintenance
1.3. Storage of knowledge
1.4. Retrieving knowledge
1.5. A willingness to contribute to a knowledge repository
1.6. A willingness to seek knowledge from a knowledge repository
1.7. Learning and unlearning processes in organizations
1.8. Communities of Practice
2. Specific challenges encountered in knowledge management that either:
2.1. Have been successfully been overcome in designing, implementing or
using a knowledge management system
2.2. Those challenges that have defied resolution
3. Knowledge Management and strategic planning:
3.1. Strategic planning of knowledge management processes
3.2. Vision development and KM; theoretical and practical foundations of
knowledge-based vision and strategy development
3.3. KM, strategy and organizational routines
4. Other challenges to the research community
This minitrack welcomes all types of papers, both conceptual and empirical,
using diverse methods to provide new insights into the fields of KM and
organizational learning.

CALL FOR PAPERS
52nd Annual Hawai'i International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-52)
January 8-11, 2019 (Tuesday-Friday)
Grand Wailea, Maui (https://www.grandwailea.com)
Minitrack: Knowledge Value, Success and Performance Measurements
(http://hicss.hawaii.edu/tracks-52/knowledge-innovation-and-entrepreneurial-…)
Part of the Track: Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems
Minitrack description:
Research into knowledge systems, knowledge management (KM),
organizational memories, and organizational learning has been affected
by investigations such as implementation aspects, system developments,
or knowledge flows during a number of years. Therefore, a high maturity
level of KM research has been achieved. However, organizational
knowledge/KM initiatives are more and more faced with budget cuts and
justification demands due to intense competition in today’s business
environments. The influences of the rapid pace of globalization and of
the ongoing liberalization of national and international markets lead to
the emergence of increased pressure on existing companies. Project
managers of knowledge/KM initiatives like Chief Knowledge Officers need
to justify their budgets and, thus, are in need of qualitative and
quantitative evidence of the initiatives’ success. In addition, ROI
calculations and traditional accounting approaches do not tell an
adequate story when proposing knowledge-based initiatives.
This minitrack explores research into strategies, methodologies, and
stories that relate to measuring this success. In addition, this
minitrack will be used to explore the bodies of performance measurements
that define the current state of research in measuring knowledge system,
KM, organizational memory, and organizational learning success.
Eventually, another purpose of this minitrack is to present research on
how to value knowledge-based initiatives.
Possible topics include:
- Frameworks and models for assessing knowledge systems, knowledge
management, and/or organizational memory systems
- Methodologies and processes for measuring knowledge systems, knowledge
management and/or organizational memory success and performance
- Impact of knowledge use, knowledge management strategy, organization,
systems, culture, and other issues on knowledge
management/organizational memory success
- Organizational effectiveness/efficiency due to knowledge
management/organizational memory/organizational learning, knowledge and
organizational memory use
- Knowledge systems, knowledge management, organizational memory, and
organizational learning metrics
- Knowledge systems, knowledge management, organizational memory, and
organizational learning success factors and key performance indicators
- Benchmarking of knowledge systems/knowledge management/organizational
memory initiatives
- Case studies of knowledge systems, knowledge management and
organizational memory success and performance measurements
- Measuring knowledge systems, knowledge management and/or
organizational memory performance in global organizations and globally
dispersed communities
- Effectiveness and/or efficiency of knowledge systems/knowledge
management/organizational memory systems
- Modeling and measuring the impact of social software on knowledge
system/knowledge management performance
- Defining knowledge systems, knowledge management and organizational

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Reasoning about Actions and Processes:
Highlights of Recent Advances
ACTIONS@KR18
http://www.diag.uniroma1.it/~kr18actions/
Held as part of KR 2018, October 28 & 29, 2018, Tempe, Arizona (USA)
****************************************************************************
The field of Reasoning about actions, a fundamental area of KR, is
expanding to incorporate research from a wide range of other areas of AI
and CS. In recent years, we have moved from standard forms of reasoning,
such as action sequence executabilty and future effects (projection), to
more sophisticated forms of reasoning which share many commonalities
with other fields of CS, from verification in Formal Methods to process
modeling and analysis in Business Process Management. Moreover,
connections with planning are being extended to other forms of
synthesis, such as generalized planning, MDPs/RL, supervisory control,
reactive synthesis, etc. Papers from these various areas are dispersed
across many conferences, which makes it difficult to follow the general
direction of the field. Drawing upon a successful format followed in
other fields (e.g., http://highlights-conference.org), the workshop aims
to offer a wide picture of the latest research in the field and a chance
to meet everybody in the community.
GoalThis workshop aims to bring together researchers working in a
variety of areas of AI and CS -- including KR, planning, RL,
verification, and synthesis -- to foster these emerging directions of
reasoning about actions and processes.
FormatWe invite submissions for presentations, not papers. We welcome a
presentation on your favorite recent technical work, position paper, or
open problems with clear and concise formulations of current challenges.
The contributed talks will be 15-minutes long. All sessions will be
designed to promote interaction between the attendees by holding
frequent discussion periods for analysis and critique. The workshop will
also have panel sessions on important emerging issues for the field and
longer keynote talks.
SubmissionsSubmissions should have a single main author, who will be the
speaker, and each speaker can have no more than one submission. Each
submission must be at most 2-pages long and may refer to joint work with
other collaborators to be credited in the presentation. There are no
formal proceedings and we encourage submissions of work presented or
submitted elsewhere (no copyright transfer is required, only permission
to post the abstract on the workshop site).
Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Reasoning about
actions Representing and reasoning about processes
Hierarchical abstractions of action models Generalized
planning Verification and Synthesis of high level agent
behaviors Agent behavior control Logic-based representation, action
theories, temporal logics, logics of programs Stochastic
representation, MDPs and Non-Markovian Decision Processes Learning
dynamic behaviors, RL
Partial observability, incomplete information, uncertainty
Reasoning about beliefs, goals and intentions First-person vs
third person view
Plan, intention, and activity recognition Transparency,
predictability and accountability of agents’ behaviors
Both theoretical and application-oriented contributions are
welcome.Papers can be submitted via EasyChair:

DSIC’18 – The 2018 International Conference on Digital Science
19 – 21 October 2018, Montenegro
https://digscience.org/ <https://digscience.org/>
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SCOPE
DSIC’18 – The 2018 International Conference on Digital Science, to be
held at Montenegro, 19 – 21 October 2018, is an international forum for
researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent
innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the several
perspectives of Digital Science.
The main idea of this Conference is that the world of science is unified
and united allowing all scientists/practitioners to be able to think,
analyze and generalize their thoughts. The concept of this conference is
that all scientists have the ability to think, analyze, and extend
knowledge using digital technology, and that technology allows
researchers to break the barriers between disciplines.
DSIC aims efficiently disseminate original research results in natural,
social, art&humanities sciences. This Conference enables fast
dissemination so conference participants can publish their papers in
print and electronic format, which is then made available worldwide and
accessible by millions of researchers.
DSIC covers publications on many multidisciplinaire levels but each
accepted paper might be presented in the appropriate thematic Conference
session of narrow specialization. The conference organizers believe that
all scientists selected to present their work are important in their own
right, therefore additional keynote speakers are unnecessary.
We are pleased to invite you to submit your papers to DSIC’18. Papers
must be written in English. All submissions will be reviewed on the
basis of relevance, originality, importance and clarity.
CONFERENCE TOPICS
We invite submissions that should be related with one or more of the
following topics, but are not limited to:
1. Digital Art & Humanities

or the requested format (download a DOC example
<http://www.icits.me/springerformat.doc>) and be written in English,
must not have been published before, not be under review for any other
conference or publication and not include any information leading to the
authors’ identification. Therefore, the authors’ names, affiliations and
bibliographic references should not be included in the version for
evaluation by the Scientific Committee. This information should only be
included in the camera-ready version, saved in Word and also in PDF format.
All papers will be subjected to a “double-blind review” by at least two
Scientific Committee members. The «blind» review means that the authors’
names, affiliations and bibliographic references should not be included
in the version for evaluation by the Scientific Committee or/and
Reviewers. This information should only be included in the camera-ready
version, saved in Word and/or in PDF format. Based on Scientific
Committee evaluation, a paper can be rejected or accepted by the
Conference Chairs.
Each accepted paper might be presented in the appropriate thematic
session of narrow specialization. In the later case, it can be accepted
as paper or poster.
The authors of accepted papers will have 15 minutes to present their
work in a Conference Work or Internet Session; approximately 5 minutes
of discussion will follow each presentation.
PUBLICATION AND INDEXING
