Research Frontier Theme: Building Digital Society with Blockchain and Smart
Contract
SIGBPS workshop aims to extend the boundaries of research in business
process management and services science by integrating new elements that
have not been sufficiently emphasized in the past. The recent rapid
advances in information systems have created both challenges and
opportunities to develop new business services via innovative business
processes. Another important area of interest of this workshop is to
promote theoretical research in business process management and service
science. Driven by the need to solve practical problems, the business
process modeling and automation research has been largely prescriptive.
There has been a lack of strong theories in this area and we believe that
it is essential to develop new theories about business process and service
automation.
On the other hand, recently blockchain is poised to become the most
exciting invention after the Internet; while the latter connects the world
to enable new business models based on online business processes, the
former will help resolve the trust issue more efficiently via distributed
computing. While the recent advancement made blockchain a practical
technology, smart contract is now getting more attention, which is
essentially a transaction protocol that executes the terms of a
computerized contract. The potential business impacts of blockchain and
smart contracts are challenging existing business models, leading to
fascinating research opportunities in business process and service
applications. The purpose of the SIGBPS workshop this year is to provide an
interdisciplinary forum to discuss new research directions in the areas of
building trustworthy business processes and services with blockchain and
smart contract technologies. We have seen testimonial studies on how to
examine, design, implement, and deploy solutions based on blockchain and
smart contracts to resolve research and practical issues in BPS
applications. Such applications may benefit many research frontier domains,
for example, finance, supply chain, education and healthcare.
Given the nature and purpose of this workshop, we invite research papers of
no more than five pages that are well articulated and formatted in single
line spacing, Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1-inch margins. Please indicate your
target track (listed on the next page) below your paper title. We
particularly seek position papers but also welcome conceptual papers with
either theoretical or application flavors, as well as completed research
papers or research-in-progress papers. Case, empirical, and behavioral
studies relevant to the focused topics are also welcome. Best paper awards
and best student paper awards (students are first authors) will be selected
based on novelty and significance. Authors of selected workshop papers will
be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to IseB
(Information Systems and e-Business Management journal, SSCI,
http://www.springer.com/10257) Special Issue on Blockchain Technology and
Applications for fast-track review.
Suggested research topics include, but not limited to, the following ones:
○ Design science research in BPS applications of blockchain-driven
smart contracts
○ Technical and application solutions for smart contracts and BPS
applications
○ Empirical studies on blockchain, smart contracts and BPS
applications
○ Trust, privacy, and behavioral issues in smart contracts under
blockchains
○ Regulation, governance, and standardization of smart contracts in
BPS applications
○ BPS applications of contract theory in smart contract management
○ Mechanism design for BPS applications of smart contracts under
blockchain
○ Blockchain-driven protocols for BPS smart contracts
○ BPS applications with blockchain and smart contracts
○ BPS case studies of blockchain and smart contract adoption
○ Tokenomics
○ Big data, cloud computing and process management
○ Robotic Process Automation
○ Coordination and cooperation mechanisms for process management
○ Process mining and intelligence
○ Frameworks and methodologies for collaboration processes
○ Business process management and smart contract based applications
in healthcare, supply chain, finance, education
○ Metrics, evaluation and measurements in business processes and
services
○ Organization and culture issues in process automation
○ Process competencies in information intensive businesses
The workshop will be organized with special tracks of interests.
Researchers with expertise in the above topics are welcome to direct the
paper solicitation and reviewing within one track (Please indicate your
track in your submission):
● Integration of smart contracts in workflow systems
● Service science and engineering in blockchain ecosystems
● Blockchain enabled supply chain processes
● Innovative Blockchain Applications in industry
● Business Process Intelligence

ECSCW 2019: The 17th European Conference on Computer-Supported
Cooperative Work
The International venue on Practice-centred computing and the Design of
cooperation technologies
Salzburg, Austria, 8-12 June, 2019
Website: https://ecscw.eusset.eu/2019
==========================
*Posters and Demos:*
The presentation of posters and demos is a key element of the ECSCW
conference. For presenters as well as recipients, the poster & demo
session provides a lively environment for getting in touch with
late-breaking research, preliminary results, innovative ideas, and
early-stage student research. At a special session during the conference
authors are given the opportunity to showcase their research to
interested delegates, as well as involving them in discussions about
their work, exchanging ideas, providing feedback, and sharing
work-in-progress relating to CSCW.
Posters provide a great opportunity for presenting research results
visually supported and offering key ideas to conference visitors.
Demos may be submitted in various kinds: These may be research
prototypes or commercial products, but we also strongly invite low-fi
prototypes, such as paper mock-ups etc. In addition, the demo session
will also provide space for exhibiting innovative material that has been
developed in the context of the deployment of (user-centred) research
methods, such as, e.g. innovations in story boards, personas, and other
material which helped fostering creativity in a design process.
The submissions for Demos and Posters should be related to the main
topics of interest of ECSCW 2019
(https://ecscw.eusset.eu/2019/submit/papers).
*NEW – Poster & Demo Award:*
***** ECSCW 2019 will confer awards for the best poster and for the best
demo. Award winners will each receive 150€ prize money provided
by industrial sponsors *****
*Submission information:*
Both submission categories (posters and demos) require the submission of
a short paper (four page maximum including references, figures, and a
150 word max. abstract). The paper should explicitly state the
contribution and originality of the work, making it clear how it differs
from significant prior work. A full literature review is not required.
Additionally, the poster submission requires a poster draft to be
submitted with the short paper.
For the demo submission, the University of Salzburg is happy to provide
vast support for setting up the demo. Please specify the
exhibition requirements in a separate document (e.g. exceptional power
(V), dimensions and footprint of exhibit (cm), lighting conditions,
etc.). University of Salzburg will provide the usual equipment (power
strip (220V), WiFi, table, screen, poster board), and is happy to
organize further equipment if needed (e.g. projector). Please feel free
to contact posters-demos(a)ecscw.eusset.eu
<mailto:posters-demos@ecscw.eusset.eu> when you plan a demo submission.

Subject: [AISWorld] AMCIS 2019 Call for Minitrack Proposals/Advances in
Information Systems Track
Date: Mon, 08 Oct 2018 11:52:18 -0500
From: Tom Stafford <stafford(a)latech.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Call for AMCIS 2019 Mini-Track Proposals: Advances in Information
Systems Track
AMCIS 2019, the 25th Americas Conference on Information Systems, will be
held August 15 -
17, 2019, in Cancun, Mexico
Chair of the Advances in Information Systems Track:
Tom Stafford, J.E. Barnes Professor of CIS
Louisiana Tech College of Business
stafford(a)latech.edu
Track Description:
The Advances in Information Track serves as a nexus for
*non-SIG-affiliated minitracks.* It is
also the landing point for a fast-track opportunity to The DATA BASE for
Advances in
Information Systems, which celebrates 50 years of continual publication
this year.
Our General Minitrack is the location where conference and track leaders
can submit their own
papers, free of conflict of interest in the review process, so that
colleagues who are actively
managing a Metatrack or Minitrack can have their own work independently
juried for inclusion
in the tracks with which they are associated, without incurring any
issues of conflict of interest.
Our General Minitrack also serves as a submission venue for papers that
do not fit any of the
primary SIG-based Metatrack themes or subthemes. To wit, papers that do
not have a fit with
mainstream Minitracks in any of the 20 conference SIG-based tracks can
find a submission
home in our General Minitrack.
That said, the Advances in Information Systems Track seeks additional
Minitrack proposals that
are from new, nascent, emerging or as-yet unaffiliated scholarly groups
who *do not currently
fit* into the established SIG-based Metatrack conference structure ( and
the affiliated Minitrack
structure subsidiary to it) by which the AMCIS conference is normally
organized.
The Advances in Information Systems Track, in the past, has accommodated
emergent
scholarship from groups as diverse as: “Computers in the Business &
Production of
Agriculture”, “IT Entrepreneurship”, “Emerging Research in IoT” and
“Cognitive Research in IS.”
To that end, if your group of colleagues is gaining critical mass as a
colloquium of inquiry but
does not yet have a SIG affiliation, or if you are a SIG that has not
yet launched your own
Metatrack at AMCIS, we welcome your proposal to develop a Minitrack for
the Advances in
Information Systems Track. We are particularly interested in new and
leading-edge areas of
inquiry which might prove to be provocative and interesting thematic
foci for sections and
issues of The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, which is
affiliated with the
Advances in Information Systems Track.
Minitrack chairs will be responsible for the following tasks and activities:
a) promoting their Minitrack to generate manuscript submissions to AMCIS
2019;
b) soliciting and assigning reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the
Minitrack; and
c) making recommendations to track chairs about each manuscript
submitted to the Minitrack.
To submit a Minitrack proposal, you must submit the following:
a) Minitrack chairs (names, emails, affiliation);
b) Minitrack title;
c) short description of Minitrack for the AMCIS 2019 website (up to 150
words);
d) call for papers for your Minitrack.

For over 50 years, ACM SIGMIS Computers and People Research (CPR)
conference has engaged the academic and practitioner communities in
understanding issues pertaining to the intersection of information
technology and people. From its roots in the IT workforce, CPR has
broadened its focus to deal with all aspects of this important and
complex relationship. We are delighted to welcome the 2019 ACM SIGMIS
CPR conference to exciting Nashville, Tennessee from June 20-22, 2019.
In the world of information systems, some issues are transitory, and
some endure. The focus of the 2019 conference is on these enduring
questions. A few of the enduring questions are:
Individual
* What leads to individuals resisting the use of IT (resistance,
workarounds, BYOD)?
* What are the impacts of emerging technologies (social media,
analytics, blockchain) on workers?
* How does the design of a system or technology impact worker acceptance
and/or resistance?
* How do individual humans interact with robotic co-workers?
Organizational
* How can organizations understand emerging technologies and their
potential risks and opportunities?
* What factors impact retention and turnover in the IT workforce?
* What unique challenges exist for managing IT workers, and how do we
meet those challenges?
* What is the business value of IT? From what does this value derive?
* What are the best ways to organize IT work?
* Will emerging IT enable new organizational forms? What are those forms?
Societal
* How does IT impact the nature of work? How will IT impact the nature
of work in the future?
* How can we address the various digital divides?
* How does the interaction of IT and people impact innovation, and how
is innovation impacted by this interaction?
* How does IT impact entrepreneurial activities?
Workforce
* Why are some demographic groups under-represented in the IT workforce?
* What are the characteristics of the IT workforce? How are these
characteristics changing?
* How can universities best prepare students for careers in information
systems and information technology?
* What are the key skills for entry into the IT workforce? How are these
skills changing?
* What ethical issues result from embedding IT in work?
* What security and privacy issues result from embedding IT in work?
IS Education
* How do we help students develop the skills needed for entry into, and
success in the IT workforce?
* How can we attract promising students to IS programs?
* How should IS programs deal with emerging technologies?
* How do IS programs differentiate themselves from computer science,
analytics, data science and other overlapping programs?
* How can universities best prepare students for careers in information
systems and information technology?
In addition to the conference theme, we also invite submissions to a
general Information Systems track that broadly addresses issues at the
intersection of information technology and people.
Doctoral Consortium
A doctoral consortium will take place as in previous years in
conjunction with the CPR 2019 conference. It is meant for students
spanning those at an early stage in their doctoral program to those who
are more advanced and are at the stage of writing their dissertation
proposal, and who are conducting research on a topic related to the
conference theme or to the broad focus of the CPR conference on
understanding issues pertaining to the intersection of information
technology and people. The purpose of the consortium is two-fold: 1)
provide feedback and guidance to students on their proposal while at a
stage where feedback can be considered for future dissertation work, and
2) provide mentoring and networking opportunities to students who wish
to pursue careers as researchers at the intersection of information
systems and people.
Doctoral students must be nominated to the consortium by a faculty
sponsor. Students nominated for the consortium should submit via email
to Dr. Indira Guzman (Indira.Guzman(a)trident.edu) a 10-page research
proposal (including all text, figures, and references; double space) to
be reviewed by a panel of highly qualified senior faculty mentors. The
doctoral students selected to participate in the doctoral consortium
will receive one round of written feedback on their proposal.
At the conference, each student will have 15-20 minutes to present their
research ideas and receive feedback in-person from experienced
researchers and fellow consortium participants. The doctoral consortium
will allow activities in plenary mode and intense workshop sessions in
smaller groups. The submission deadline for doctoral consortium
application is the same as the general submission deadline. Accepted
students may choose to publish the full proposal that was submitted for
evaluation or an extended abstract of their proposal in the conference
proceedings.
Funding will be available to assist with travel and registration fees to
students selected for the doctoral consortium.
Format of Submissions
ACM SIGMIS CPR 2019 welcomes both completed papers and
research-in-progress papers, (which may be accepted as posters), and
submissions designated as posters. All papers must be original,
unpublished elsewhere, and submitted on the ACM SIG proceedings template
available for download from:
https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template-16dec2016. All
reviewing will be double-blind.
* Completed papers may include conceptual papers, empirical papers and
industry case studies. They must not exceed 5000 words including all
text, figures, and tables. The abstract, keywords, and references are
excluded from this page count.
* Research-in-progress papers must not exceed 2000 words including all
text, figures, and tables. The abstract, keywords, and references are
excluded from this page count.
* Poster presentations must not exceed 500 words and should provide a
comprehensive overview of the topic, research approach, findings to date
(if any) and future plans for project.
* Ideas for interesting panels related to the conference theme should be
submitted directly to Craig Van Slyke
(vanslyke(a)latech.edu<mailto:vanslyke@latech.edu>).
Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published by ACM in the refereed conference
proceedings, which will be distributed at the conference. Authors of
accepted papers may choose to publish complete papers or extended
abstracts of their research in the conference proceedings. All completed
research papers that are to be published in their entirety in the
conference proceedings will be considered for the Magid Igbaria
Outstanding Conference Paper of the Year Award. The Magid Igbaria
Outstanding Conference Paper and other exemplar papers will be invited
for publication in the DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems-the
quarterly journal publication of ACM SIGMIS. Articles will not be
published in the event proceedings if at least one author of a submitted
work is unable to present their article at the conference.
AUTHORS TAKE NOTE: The official publication date is the date the
proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may
be up to two weeks prior to the first day of your conference. The
official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings
related to published work. (For those rare conferences whose proceedings
are published in the ACM Digital Library after the conference is over,
the official publication date remains the first day of the conference.)
Proceedings of all previous CPR conferences are available in the ACM
Digital Library at
http://portal.acm.org/dl.cfm.<http://portal.acm.org/dl.cfm>
Conference Location
Nashville, Tennessee is known as the Home of Country Music, but it has
much more to offer. Nashville is the state capital, and is home to
numerous higher education institutions, including Vanderbilt University,
Tennessee State University, Belmont University, and Lipscomb University.
Healthcare, not music, is Nashville's largest industry, employing
200,000 and contributing $30,000,000,000 to the regional economy.
Nashville is also the third fastest growing economy in the United
States. As one might expect, Nashville has a lively music scene in
addition to the honky-tonk music venues along the famed "District," the
city boasts a major performing arts center and opera and ballet
companies, along with the Nashville Symphony. Nashville is home to
numerous country music icons, such as the Ryman Auditorium, the Grand
Ole Opry House, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, but also
boasts numerous art centers and museums, and a botanical garden. The
Nashville International Airport pro
vides direct flights to over fifty cities, including London (Heathrow),
Dallas, Los Angeles, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), Chicago, and
Washington D.C. (Reagan and Dulles).
