On the Beautiful Big Island
Given the current turbulent state of world economy, outsourcing is coming under tremendous pressure. Companies are no longer providing long-term contracts but are renewing them based on deliverables from outsourced companies. This is putting tremendous pressure on teams to deliver quality product on time. Team adaptability and team configuration are becoming crucial to meet deadlines. Teams must be able to adapt quickly to the changing environment. Agile teams adapt and deliver quickly and provide maximum customer satisfaction. By definition, however, agile teams must be co-located. Can distributed teams be agile and adaptable? This requires careful team configuration. This mini-track examines the emerging issues related to team configuration and performance in distributed environment. Some research related to outsourcing of structured tasks has been done, but research related to emerging issues like diversity, cohesiveness, agility and adaptability related to group collaboration ac
ross semi or unstructured tasks is still emerging. In addition, the "e (Internet)" to "m (mobile)" transformation is creating exciting opportunities for groups to make real time decisions in a mobile environment.
Distributed teams, however, face many challenges of time, location, infrastructure, language, customs, socialization and politics. This is further compounded in globally distributed teams by diversity, nationality and cultural issues. As old issue are resolved, new challenges emerge that require knowledge from multiple disciplines such as information systems, social sciences, international management, leadership and political science. It is almost impossible for one individual to have expertise in so many domains, which makes this a very challenging but ultimately rewarding collaborative area of research. Given the richness and research potential of this area, it is essential to brainstorm and bring diverse points of view to develop underlying theory and frameworks. The mini track will attempt to accomplish these objectives.
The mini track will address emerging issue such as diversity, culture, adaptability and agility related to teams in distributed group decision making, as well as the underlying theories of group dynamics, coordination, communications and decision-making in distributed environments, in creation of competitive advantage. Examples of topics in the discussion of globally distributed decision making mini-track will include the following (but are not limited to):

Call for Papers - HICSS-51 Dark Side of IT Minitrack
HICSS-51 Dark Side of IT Minitrack
Conference: Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)
Minitrack Title: The Dark Side of Information Technology; Track Title: Organizational Systems and Technology
Chair: Ofir Turel; Co-Chairs: Amr Soror; Zach Steelman
The "Dark Side of IT" track welcomes theoretical and empirical papers examining alternative consequences of IT use and implementation in organizations and societies. The objective of this mini-track is to focus not only on the antecedents, development processes, consequence of numerous phenomena related to the dark side of IT use but also the potential strategies and techniques for behavioral interventions. We seek, based on this forum of discussion, to provide practitioners (e.g., IT developers, managers, psychologists, and policy makers) in a multitude of contexts with a deeper understanding of the potential consequences regarding the dark side of IT use. Further, we hope these studies help to shape guidelines for designing and implementing organizational and hedonic IT while minimizing the potential negative consequences of IT use.
Submitted papers might focus on, but are not limited to, some of the following themes related to the dark side of IT use. We acknowledge that over time new dark side of IT phenomena will emerge, and we hence call and welcome topics that focus on IT-related phenomena which is harmful, that may extend this list.
* IT-related addictions
* Cyber loafing,
* Cyber bullying
* Deceptive computer-mediated communication
* Disrupted work life balance
* IT interruptions
* IT misuse
* Technostress
* Impulsive use of IT
* Physiological effects of IT use
Submissions are welcome and encouraged from a variety of theoretical foundations (e.g., information systems, psychology, cognitive science, decision sciences, sociology, social networks, organizational behavior, neuroscience, computer science, and informatics) which might advance our knowledge of the antecedents, processes, interventions and consequences of the dark side of IT use. The track invites relevant and rigorous studies without restriction for the methodologies used, units of analyses and levels of theorization.
Journal Publication Opportunities:

Minitrack: Information Systems Success and Benefits Realization
Track: Organizational Systems and Technology
Nowadays organizational information systems are acquired through numerous means: as service (cloud computing), as configurations to large enterprise systems, as packaged software, or through dedicated developed. It is common that all these aim at successful and beneficial installation of a new system. However, despite of existing tracks of research on these topics, according to Gartner reports and popular press articles, numerous information systems projects fail in terms of costs, schedules, and objectives. Models and methods for understanding IS success and benefits, benefits realization of IT investments at large, realizing the benefits of information systems in general, proactively measuring them before renewal, or retrospectively analyzing them at the project have largely remained untouched.
It is surprising that despite the number of problematic IS projects, the topic is still little understood in the information systems researcher community. For example, such questions as how to proactively setting measurable objectives for IS benefits, how to choose an appropriate acquisition strategy and method for maximum benefits, how to execute the acquisition project successfully, and how to measure and analyze benefits of IS investments after the project have been left largely intact - even though these are significant issues for practitioners and economy. For example famous IS success model (Delone & MacLean 2003; Petter et al. 2008) identifies the benefit realization model, although theorizes the phenomena on an abstract level. Thus, although a recent Delphi study identified benefits realization as the most important issue to be considered by IS procurement professionals in the public sector (Moe & Päivärinta 2013), the success and benefits of IS investments remain rather abstract in practice. This is problematic as for instance in Norway, all public ICT acquisitions need to justify rather detailed benefits to the public or to the civil servants proactively, before the acquisition takes place. Although the literature documents several methods and techniques for benefits justification, management and realization, they have not reached wide utilization in practice. The situation is, up to large extent, identical in private sector as, for instance, business cases are difficult to write and different IS initiations are difficult to compare.
This sets a starting point for this minitrack. We invite papers focusing on theoretical models, empirical results, or practical experiences on different aspects of IS benefits, benefit realization or
IS success in the private or the public sector. Topics covered, but not limited to:
- IS procurement and acquisition concepts and experiences that aim for maximum benefits
- The impacts of regulations
- Benefits realization processes and methods
- Benefits realization as a part of IS development practice or methods
- IS procurement issues, challenges, or solutions for maximum benefits
- Theoretical models and frameworks for (understanding) IS benefits and benefits realization
- Stakeholders that affect IS benefits realization
- Case studies
- Business-IT alignment and its relation to IS benefits
- Architectures and models and their relations to IS benefits
- Benefits and benefit realization in the context of IS procurement or IS renewal
- Utility of applying formal benefits realization or procurement practices
