Betreff: [AISWorld] Call for Papers: HICSS-51 2018 Mini-track: Theory
and Information Systems
Datum: Sun, 19 Mar 2017 09:55:32 +0000
Von: Dirk Hovorka <dirk.hovorka(a)sydney.edu.au>
An: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
CfP *Minitrack*: Theory and Information Systems
*Track*: Organizational Systems and Technology track
Once again the the “Theory and Information Systems” mini-track invites submissions that investigate the implications of theory ontologies, theory integration, or meta-analytic approaches to building cumulative theory. We also welcome approaches to the contextualization of “local” theory. Research over the last decades has emphasized theory development in IS and other social and behavioral science disciplines. The resulting proliferation of theories and constructs has numerous redundancies, which can be revealed through review, meta-analysis and interrogation of the theory discourse. Synthesis, integration and ontologies would benefit the disciplines by identifying what we can now research given what we already know. Theory synthesis will inform social and behavioral sciences research with a better understanding of fundamental theories, help organize our theories to be accessible research and practice, and increase our understanding of the philosophical commitments represented in their contextualization and use.
Toward these ends, topics of interest in this minitrack include:
1. Integration or aggregation of social and behavioral science theories;
2. The theoretical ties between different disciplines (e.g. healthcare and IS, and sustainability science and IS, energy informatics), and the trends in theories;
3. Approaches to theory meta-analysis
4. Research on ontologies, taxonomies, frameworks, and categorizations of constructs and variables used in system science theories;
5. The use of natural language processing, data mining, and predictive analytics to better understand and interrogate theories;
6. Discussion of the roles of theories used to explain, approaches used to predict (e.g. neural nets and big data), and of theories of understanding;
7. Exploration of the dependencies of constructs and variables;
8. Exploration of the boundaries of theory “domains.”
This minitrack also has an associated ISWorld website devoted to theories used in IS research (http://istheory.byu.edu/wiki/Main_Page) — which won the 2005 AISWorldNet Challenge Award for the best website based on AISWorldNet user voting. We intend to uphold this high standard and advance the website further by increasing the synergy between mini-track outcomes and website content.

Developing smart city and enhancing digital services are the critical important to urbanization process for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of traditional cities. With the massive applications of Internet of things (IoT), mobile networks, and social networks, unprecedentedly large amount of various heterogeneous data can be gathered and processed in terms of advanced analytics to support smart applications and digital services. Furthermore, decision support tools and soft computing models can be employed to speed up the whole process.
This minitrack addresses issues that focus on the applications of various decision support tools, such as big data analytics, decision analysis, and soft computing, to develop smart city applications and digital services. We also encourage papers to report on system level research and case studies related to smart city and digital services. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Advanced analytics for smart city planning and digital services
Case study and best practices for smart cities and digital services
Decision support models and tools for smart city and digital services
Design and implementation of intelligent systems for smart city applications
Innovative applications in smart cities, such as smart traffic, and smart travel

Von: stan.karanasios(a)rmit.edu.au
An: AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org <AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Pre-ECIS Workshop: Developing Activity Theory in Information Studies (DATIS), June 6, 2017
at the 25th European Conference on Information Systems / June 5th-10th 2017 / Guimarães, Portugal (www.ecis2017.eu/)
Workshop chairs:
Stan Karanasios, RMIT University, Australia
David Allen, University of Leeds, UK
Jyoti Mishra, University of Bradford, UK
Alistair Norman, University of Leeds, UK
Boyka Simeonova, Loughborough University, UK
Overview of the workshop:
Over the last two decades the use of Activity Theory has developed within the field of information systems (IS), as well as related fields such as Human Computer Interaction, information studies, organisation studies and communications. While there is significant interest in developing Activity Theory across these related scholarly disciplines many of the researchers using it are working as lone scholars within IS and related departments.
The aims of the workshop are to:
1) Introduce IS scholars to the basic conceptual premises of Activity Theory focusing on the use, development and contribution of Activity Theory.
2) Strengthen and build the community of scholars within IS using Activity Theory to understand the relationship between technology and activity in different work and social contexts.
3) Provide an opportunity for scholars to reflect and gain feedback on work in progress or receive new perspectives.
4) Provide support for researchers that are starting to explore Activity Theory.
5) Provide a space for scholars interested in other practice theories to engage in common theoretical debates.
Workshop format:
The workshop will take place over a full day. The workshop will consist of a key note, short paper presentations (15 minutes), panel discussions, and breakout sessions. The workshop programme has been designed to encourage discourse and advance the use of the Activity Theory, enable new connections between scholars deploying Activity Theory and provide an introduction to scholars new to Activity Theory.
Workshop Timetable:
09.00: Welcome, participant introductions, and overview of the workshop.
09:15: Key note presentation. Dr Julien Malaurent, Essec Business School, France
10.00: Working Panel: Experiences from the field: Three scholars present short papers (five-minute overviews) of key theoretical 'challenges' related to the use of Activity Theory and explore how they have resolved them within their research.
11:00: Break.
11.30: Short paper presentations.
13:00: Lunch break.
13.45: Welcome and introduction to afternoon sessions.
14.00: Key note presentation: TBA
14.30: Short paper presentations.
16:30: Breakout group work (organized by shared interests and themes): Tackling the challenges and opportunities of Activity Theory
17.00: Workshop end.
Evening: Optional dinner/social event to follow
Submission details and dates:
-Submission of short paper (500 words): May 15, 2017
-Short papers should be e-mailed to stan.karanasios(a)rmit.edu.au with the words ‘DATIS Workshop’ in the title.
-Short papers will be circulated prior to the workshop.
Short paper submission is not required for attendance at the workshop.

---------- Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant city, with many attractions ranging from fine
arts and culture to stunning architecture and unforgettable cuisine. The
works of Gaudi, as Park Guell, Casa Mila, and La Sagrada Familia, and
others from Lluis Domenech i Montaner, like Palau de La Musica Catalana
and Hospital de La Santa Creu i de Sant Pau are inscribed on UNESCO's
World Heritage List. The famous and busy Ramblas with its open markets,
street artists and delicious tapas also contribute to a delightful and
very cosmopolitan city that can surprise everyone.
