Workshop on Usable Security (USEC) 2018
(co-located with NDSS 2018)
San Diego, California
February 18, 2018
Ensuring effective security and privacy in real-world technology requires considering technical as well as human aspects. Enabling people to manage privacy and security necessitates giving due consideration to the users and the larger operating context within which technology is embedded. Ensuring effective security and privacy in real-world technology requires considering technical as well as human aspects. Enabling people to manage privacy and security necessitates giving due consideration to the users and the larger operating context within which technology is embedded.
We invite submissions on all aspects of human factors including adoption and usability in the context of security and privacy. USEC 2018 aims to bring together researchers already engaged in this interdisciplinary effort with other computer science researchers in areas such as visualization, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and theoretical computer science as well as researchers from other domains such as economics and psychology. We particularly encourage collaborative research from authors in multiple disciplines.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Usable security/privacy evaluation of existing and/or proposed solutions.
• Mental models that contribute to, or complicate, security and privacy.
• Lessons learned from designing, deploying, managing, or evaluating security and privacy technologies.
• Foundations of usable security and privacy incl. usable security and privacy patterns.
• Ethical, psychological, sociological and economic aspects of security and privacy technologies.
• Usable security and privacy research that targets information professionals (e.g. administrators or developers).
• Reports on replications of previously published studies and experiments.
• Reports on failed usable security studies or experiments, with the focus on the lessons learned from such experience.
• Human factors related to the deployment of the Internet of Things (IoT).
It is the aim of USEC to contribute to an increase of the scientific quality of research in human factors in security and privacy. To this end, we encourage replication studies to validate previous research findings. Papers in these categories should be clearly marked as such and will not be judged against regular submissions on novelty. Rather, they will be judged based on scientific quality and value to the community. We also encourage reports of failed experiments, since their publication will serve to highlight the lessons learned and prevent others falling into the same traps.
* SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
All submissions must be original work; authors must clearly document any overlap with previously published or simultaneously submitted papers from any of the authors. We are looking for submissions of up to 10 pages, excluding references and supplementary materials using the NDSS format found at: https://www.ndss-symposium.org/ndss2018/ndss-2018-templates/.
Submitting supplementary material that adds depth to the contribution and/or contributes to the submission’s replicability is strongly encouraged. Supplemental material must be linked to in the paper in an anonymous way as we cannot support direct upload to the submission system.
Reviewing will be double blind.
* WORK IN PROGRESS
USEC 2018 will accept Work in Progress submissions. These submissions must be clearly marked work in progress and follow the same formatting instructions as full submissions, but with a page limit of 5 pages excluding references. If accepted, authors will need to prepare a poster that will be presented at USEC 2018. Accepted Work in Progress submissions will be included in the USEC proceedings and be citable, but they will be marked clearly as Work in Progress. These publications can be republished with a “significant” revision that contains at least 25% new content. For determining the “significance” of a revision, USEC will follow ACM policies on Pre-publication Evaluation (https://www.acm.org/publications/policies/pre-publication-evaluation) and Prior Publication and Simultaneous Submissions (https://www.acm.org/publications/policies/simultaneous-submissions).

Conference Theme: Digital Disruption
Track: Organisational Transformation & Information Systems (SIG-OSRA)
Minitrack: Organizational Transformation by Scaling and Extending the
Use of Agile Methods
While agile methods have been widely adopted in software development
projects in the past, organizations today scale the use of agile methods
to larger settings (scaling agile) and extent their use to other parts
of the enterprise. The broader use of agile methods leads to intensive
organizational change activities that aim at improving agility as a core
discipline of the digital enterprise. The transformation has an impact
on all levels of the organization including the individual, the
end-user, and the customer. Other non-IT functions get increasingly in
touch with agile principles and practices. While enterprises are
experimenting with the extended use of the agile way of working,
research has mainly analyzed the ongoing change from a software
development perspective. For this minitrack, we seek to attract research
contributions that extend existing research by focusing on
socio-technical, organizational, individual, and managerial challenges
of scaling and extending the use of agile methods.
We welcome conceptual, empirical, and design-oriented contributions for
this mini-track. Papers must be submitted through the conference

Betreff: [computational.science] Special Issue on Parallel and
Distributed Data Mining
Datum: Sun, 17 Dec 2017 16:21:00 +0100

Special Issue on Parallel and Distributed Data Mining
Information Sciences, Elsevier
Submission deadline: February 1st, 2018
The sheer volume of new data, which is being generated at an increasingly fast pace, has already produced an anticipated data deluge that is difficult to challenge. We are in the presence of an overwhelming vast quantity of data, owing to how easy is to produce or derive digital data. Even the storage of this massive amount of data is becoming a highly demanding task, outpacing the current development of hardware and software infrastructure. Nonetheless, this effort must be undertaken now for the preservation, organization and long-term maintenance of these precious data. However, the collected data is useless without our ability fully understand and make use of it. Therefore, we need new algorithms to address this challenge.
Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications.
This Special Issue takes into account the increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel and distributed data mining algorithms. Parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators available on parallel computers. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications.
Moreover, increasingly the data is spread among different geographically distributed sites. Centralized processing of this data is very inefficient and expensive. In some cases, it may even be impractical and subject to security risks. Therefore, processing the data minimizing the amount of data being exchanged whilst guaranteeing at the same time correctness and efficiency is an extremely important challenge. Distributed data mining performs data analysis and mining in a fundamentally distributed manner paying careful attention to resource constraints, in particular bandwidth limitation, privacy concerns and computing power.
The focus of this Special Issue is on all forms of advances in high-performance and distributed data mining algorithms and applications. The topics relevant to the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Scalable parallel data mining algorithms using message-passing, shared-memory or hybrid programming paradigms

n*Objectives*
**
The strategic importance of enterprise modelling has been recognized by
an increasing number of companies and public agencies. Enterprise
modelling delivers the 'blueprints' for co-designing and aligning
business and enterprise information systems such that they complement
each other in an optimal way. Achieving such interplay requires a
multi-perspective approach taking organizational, economic, and
technical aspects into account. In a world of cloud, social and big
data, additional challenges for enterprise modelling and the design of
information systems architectures emerge, e.g., in respect to the design
of data-driven processes or processes enabling cross-enterprise
collaboration. To deal with these challenges, a close cooperation of
researchers from different disciplines such as information systems,
business informatics, and computer science will be required.
EMISA 2018 is the ninth international workshop in a series that provides
a key forum for researchers and practitioners in the fields of
enterprise modelling and the design of information system (IS)

***Invitation*
scopeStretching the boundaries remains our focus
The demand for people with new, enhanced skills is growing. Pressure is
on all players of the online education community to keep up with new
learning solutions, and better supply the skills currently demanded by
growing economies.
Digital credentials and open badges are the new currencies which are
beginning to transform the economic models in education. Social and
economic tensions continue to raise the issues of scalability, the
micro-credentialling of education, training and skill development processes.
Micro, meso and macro aspects provide an interesting range of lenses for
considering the problem. Navigating these dimensions are the reshaping
of digital pedagogy and online instructional design; and social elements
including digital societal mechanisms and the position of the individual
in our new era. We have need of systematic awareness and research in the
critical are of sustainable socio-cultural aspects as they relate to
learning. *Read more...* <http://www.eden-online.org/2018_genoa/call/>

Conference Venue: Genova, Italy
Genoa (Genova) is a port city and the capital of northwest Italy's
Liguria region. It's known for its central role in maritime trade over
many centuries. In the old town stands the Romanesque Cathedral of San
Lorenzo, with its black-and-white-striped facade and frescoed interior.
Narrow lanes open onto monumental squares like Piazza de Ferrari, site
of an iconic bronze fountain and Teatro Carlo Felice opera house.
The city's once-tatty port area now hosts museums and a number of eating
and drinking options. Its old town, too, has had its own far more
organic revitalisation, with a bright new crop of fashionable shops,
restaurants and bars lighting the way.

Dear colleagues,
we cordially invite your research papers to our minitrack on AMCIS 2018 in New Orleans.
*** Digital Resources for the Aging Society (SIGHealth) ***
http://amcis2018.aisnet.org/submissions/track-descriptions/#toggle-id-11
All developed and emerging economies face the challenge of aging societies. Not only is the percentage of the elderly within the population growing, they are also getting older than generations before.
This trend put tremendous pressure on social and healthcare systems around the world.
Electronic resources (healthcare information systems, wearables, robots, internet-of-things, apps, websites, virtual discussion groups, social media etc.) provide a perspective to enable seniors to life in self-contained circumstances for longer than today. These resources also create enormous amount and variety of data that need to be address with present data sciences and artificial intelligence techniques.
The minitrack addresses these challenges and opportunities by providing a forum to share high quality research on all aspects of digital resources which benefit the aging society.
We welcome empirical and conceptual work as well as design science papers. All research which adds to our understanding how digital resources are accepted and used by seniors and what benefit they provide is in scope of the minitrack.
We explicitly welcome papers dealing with issues of wellness, hospitality and medical tourism with respect to the aging society.
Submission deadline: February 28th 2018
We are looking forward to your submission!
