2nd INTERNATIONAL RAPID MASHUP CHALLENGE
http://challenge.webengineering.org/
June 6, 2015, Lugano, Switzerland
Co-located with ICWE 2016: http://icwe2016.webengineering.org/
What’s the most complex, expressive and elegantly constructed mashup you can build in 10 minutes with your own tool, platform, approach? Participate in the Challenge and demonstrate what you can do!
The 2nd International Rapid Mashup Challenge launches again a competition between mashup approaches/tools with special attention to their expressiveness and speed. We invite developers and researchers working on mashups, mashup tools and assisting technologies to compete in the creation of the most interesting and/or complex mashup they can develop within a given time boundary, using a given set of source components. The goal of the Challenge is to allow everybody working on mashups and composite Web applications to showcase their ideas and solutions and to establish an event that is both challenging and fun.
We are interested in all kinds of mashup composition tools and approaches: from programming languages, domain-specific languages to natural language, from visual modeling tools to textual ones, etc. Submissions will be screened based on relevance, originality and maturity. Admitted contributions will be evaluated as follows: Points will be given (i) by the organizers for the supported mashup features based on the initial submission (see the checklist) and (ii) by the audience for the complexity of the mashup, the elegance of its construction and the showcased features of the mashup tool based on the live demonstration.

*CALL FOR PAPERS*
Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems (APJIS)
*Special Issue: The Old, the Young and the Sea of IS: New Perspectives on
the Development, Adoption and Application of Information Systems*
*Introduction*
In the past decade, we have observed the rapidly changing research trend in
information systems (IS) in response to the fast-developing information
technologies and the surrounding environment. Sizzling topics, such as
social media and big data, have swept the field in recent years, and
interests in new technologies, such as FinTech and IoT, are on the rise. It
has been of no doubt exciting and meaningful to discuss their capacity to
change our daily lives and influences on the businesses.
However, despite the rapid movement of IS research trends, more fundamental
inquiries including how to develop, adopt and apply IS still seek for
answers. The subject of IS may change every year, but the process of using
it from the user perspective does not, because it is the combined
reflections of the innate human desires and affections. Understanding ‘how
to’ develop, adopt and apply various types of IS will provide more
long-term implications that do not easily change while the subject of
technology changes.
Therefore, this special issue aims to broadly discuss how various types of
IS can be developed, adopted and applied. The possible topics include
classical ones, such as trust and TAM, as well as recent ones, such as big
data and social media. The submission of papers that discuss classical IS
topics from a new perspective are encouraged. The title of the special
issue, *The Old, the Young and the Sea of IS*, implies new perspectives
(the Young) on classical topics (the Old) for in-depth understanding (the
Sea). We welcome your submission.
*Submission Guidelines*
§ Submissions should follow standard formatting and style guidelines for
the Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems (
http://www.apjis.or.kr/common/sub/s.asp)
§ Manuscripts should be submitted through the APJIS Online Submission
System (www.e-apjis.or.kr).
§ When you submit your manuscript, please specify that your manuscript is
submitted for the special issue.
*Important Dates*
§ Deadline for article submission: 24 April 2016
§ Reviews returned to authors: 29 May 2016
§ Deadline for submission of the revised articles: 3 July 2016

Workshop in collaboration with
The 20th international conference of Advanced Data Bases and Information Systems 2016
(http://adbis2016.vsb.cz/ )
ADBIS 2016
August 28 - 31, 2016
Prague, Czech Republic
Massive data collections and the usage of that data for smart applications has become the key to the process for improving the efficiency, reliability, and security of a traditional application. There are many issues that should be taken into consideration as the first step: (a) Modeling, analytics and design of data and smart applications, (b) Metadata, ontologies, vocabularies perspectives, (c) Semantic web for smart applications, (d) Applications of existing technologies, etc.
The classical approach where people had to learn how equipment can be used is not appropriate anymore. Applications are only accepted if they are natural to the users. In the past, research tried participatory design based on some knowledge of the main users, their way of operating systems and their main desires and demands. This research and technology development must however be extended by tools that can be used in an intuitive way, within many different cultures, within a variety of deployment scenarios, within a group of people deploying the techniques, within different collaboration scenarios, and within different levels of attention. Cities, regions, application will not become directly intelligent and useful.
Smart application can be based on: High quality content,
Often updated, with Minimal effort, e.g. download and processing time and space, and Ease of use. Therefore, we need applications that do not require additional training, are simple to operate, are obvious to operate, are simple for everybody, straightforward, within expectation, provide services and features, context-sensitive help, selection of wording, simple dialogues and tasks, and are simple to remember, error robust, reliable, of high quality. Applications are becoming SMART if they are Simple in any step of usage, are Motivational for any user, are Attainable for the goals the user has in mind, tend to be Rewarding since they seem to be worthwhile, right time, match efforts and needs, and Time-efficient within the limits and expectations of all members of the community of practice. This set of criteria can be considered as a lacuna of challenges that novel systems must meet.
The concept of smart applications includes various aspects such as environmental sustainability, social sustainability, regional competitiveness, natural resources management, cybersecurity, and quality of life improvement. With the massive deployment of networked smart devices and sensors, unprecedented large amounts of sensory data can be collected and processed by advanced computing paradigms which are today the enabling techniques for smart applications. For example, given historical, environmental, population and economic information, salient modelling and analytics are needed to simulate the impact of potential application development strategies, which will be critical for intelligent decision making. Analytics are indispensable for discovering the underlying structure from retrieved data in order to design the optimal policies for real time automatic control in the cyber-physical smart system. The uncertainties and security concerns in the data collected from heterogeneous resources aggravate the problem, making smart planning, operation, monitoring and control highly challenging.
To address some of those concerns if not all the 2nd International Work-shop on Data Centered Smart Applications (DCSA 2016) is proposed with the aim to provide a platform for exchanging empirical and theoretical research results about DCSA problems and solutions.
The topics of interest for this workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Theories, Methods, Techniques, Applications, and Usage of:
* Modeling, analytics and design of data-centered SMART applications
* System adaptation according current needs, life circumstances and culture
* Enhancement of database technology and techniques for SMART applications
* SMART data-intensive applications for users based on semantic web
* Collaborative behavior management
* Environmental, privacy and social issues of data centered SMART systems
* User requirements and engineering life cycle for data centered SMART systems
* User-aware supportative and intelligent systems
* Intelligent responsive systems
* Learning systems based on cognitive modelling and knowledge integration
* Semantic Web content creation, annotation, and extraction
* Use of common vocabularies for smart applications
* Reasoning strategies for derivation of SMART systems
* Robust and scalable knowledge management and reasoning on the Web
* Machine learning and NLP techniques for SMART applications

[*OVERVIEW*]
Wireless communication technologies are advancing at a high rate, enabling
real-time multimedia and sensor services provided by mobile broadband
Internet on devices creating a grid network of the Internet of Things
(IoT). The IoT paradigm and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and
control are rapidly gaining ground in wireless telecommunication. IoT
platforms enable heterogeneous resource discovery and data sharing through
the formation of communication/virtual networks. Researchers and
science-practitioners are currently envision different properties for
future IoT architectures and the expectation are increasing about what the
current and future generation of IoT technologies can do to enable a wide
range of novel applications and organizational business models.
[
*OBJECTIVE] *The objective of the IJITCA is to identify and publish
high-quality cyber-assurance, cyber-security and information
assurance related research specifically towards the Internet of Things
(IoT). IoT devices and networks may range from hand-held mobile devices to
a centralized high performance cloud computing environment consisting of
heterogeneous communication systems of both tactical (mobile, wireless) and
fixed (wired) communications infrastructures. From an information security
perspective, the IoT must address the delivery of authentic, accurate,
secure, reliable, timely information, regardless of threat conditions, over
these distributed and heterogeneous computing and communication systems.
Cyber-assurance is the justified confidence that IoT networked systems are
adequately secured to meet operational needs, even in the presence of
cyber-attacks, failures, accidents and unexpected events. The IJITCA is
looking to increase the visibility of current research and emergent trends
in Cyber-Assurance IoT theories, applications, architectures and
information security based on theoretical aspects and studies of practical
applications.
*[TARGET AUDIENCE]*
- The target audience of the IJITCA extends to researchers,
professionals and students working in the field of cyber-assurance and the
IoT. The journal is to gather the knowledge and experience of expert
information security and IoT researchers to elicit knowledge in a
collaborative effort leading to the improvement and development of
security related research for the IoT. Additionally, the articles
published will be written for those who want to gain and/or improve their
understanding of the latest developments of IoT.
*[RESEARCH TOPICS] *Recommended research topics include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- Cyber-threats towards the IoT
- Automated IoT vulnerability identification
- Genetic algorithms used to control intelligent agents for IoT devices
- Key distribution techniques in IoT networks
