Betreff: [AISWorld] Inf. Sys. Special issue on Integrating
Process-oriented and Event-based Systems (4th Jan 2017)

Extended submission deadline: 4th January, 2017
####################################################################
Special Issue in Elsevier's Information Systems on
*Integrating Process-oriented and Event-based Systems*
####################################################################
Process-oriented information systems (POIS) control operations by
coordinating the execution of elementary activities. Recently, there
has been a significant uptake of POIS in transportation, logistics,
and medical infrastructures – domains that impose new challenges in
terms of system reactivity and adaptability. Here, trends such as
sensing of data and advancing system integration represent
opportunities to strengthen the event- perspective in process-oriented
systems in order to achieve more flexible and comprehensive process
control. Event-based systems (EBS), in turn, have been put forward to
integrate heterogeneous systems in a flexible and scalable manner by
separating communication from application logic. EBS have found their
way into many applications where event generation is relatively
deterministic and follows structured behaviour, i.e., events are
created by processes. Exploiting the process-perspective promises to
lead to advancements in the design, analysis, and optimisation of
event-based systems.
The increasing overlap of application scenarios that involve concepts
and techniques of process-oriented as well as event-based systems,
however, is only marginally supported by exchange and convergence of
the related research fields. Despite the manifold opportunities for
cross-fertilisation as highlighted by a recent Dagstuhl Seminar
(http://www.dagstuhl.de/16341/), only a small amount of research has
been conducted on how process-oriented systems and event- based
systems can be integrated. Given this background, this special issue
invites submissions focusing on various aspects of the interplay of
process-oriented and event-based systems. We welcome both theoretical
contributions as well as papers describing interesting applications.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Process-driven distribution of event processing
- Process-driven handling of event data quality issues
- Process-driven definition of complex events
- Process-driven optimisation of event processing
- Event semantics in processes
- Process-event correlation
- Events for flexible and adaptive process management
- Events in inter-process correlation
- Event-driven choreographies
- Applications of event-driven process management
- Benchmarks and evaluation of event-driven process management

The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER) is the leading
international forum for presenting and discussing research and
applications of conceptual modeling. Topics of interest include
foundations of conceptual models, theories of concepts, ontology-driven
conceptual modeling and analysis, methods and tools for developing,
communicating, consolidating, and evolving conceptual models, and
techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective
implementations.
Continuing a long tradition, ER 2017 will host a number of workshops to
be held in conjunction with the main ER 2017 conference. The workshops
will serve as an intensive collaborative forum for exchanging innovative
ideas about conceptual modeling, and for discovering new frontiers for
its use. We specifically invite proposals for interactive workshops on
new, emerging, or established topics in conceptual modeling, or its
application in specific domains. We encourage workshop organizers to
include activities that provide their participants with a true workshop
experience.
Submission Guidelines
Workshop proposals should be about 3-5 pages long, submitted as a single
pdf file by email to both ER workshop co-chairs and contain the
following information:
• Title
• Topics of interest
• Format and duration
• Type (academic and/or industrial)
• Significance to conceptual modeling
• Organizers (short CVs, limit of two pages each, experience in
organizing events)
• Proposed program committee
• Expected numbers of submissions and participants
• Expected number of accepted papers
• Activities that facilitate discussion among participants
• Activities that convey state-of-the-art to participants
• Activities that convey open challenges to participants
• Information about previous workshop editions, including submission
and registration numbers
Workshop proposal submission: Friday, January 20, 2017
Notification of acceptance: Friday, February 10, 2017
Submission of workshop papers: Friday, June 30, 2017
Camera-ready versions of accepted papers: Friday, August 4, 2017
All workshops will take place on Monday, November 6, 2017
Proposal Evaluation Criteria
The number of acceptable workshop proposals is limited by the time
available and the facilities of the conference venue. Workshop proposals
will be evaluated according to the:
• Scientific quality of the proposal
• Significance to conceptual modeling
• Likely numbers of high-quality submissions
• Quality of workshop experience for participants
• Overlap with other workshops

Betreff: [AISWorld] ECSCW 2017 Call for Exploratory Papers
Datum: Wed, 7 Dec 2016 11:28:30 +0000
Von: Gabriela Avram <gabriela.avram(a)gmail.com>
An: AISWorld(a)lists.aisnet.org
Apologies for cross-posting!
CSCW focuses on enhancing our understanding of the practices of cooperative
work and on exploring and designing CSCW systems. The ECSCW conference is
an important venue for defining and further developing the agenda for CSCW
research. The conference has a longstanding interest in empirical,
conceptual and theoretical contributions and has a tradition of
inclusiveness. ECSCW addresses themes which include but are not limited to:
- Conceptualising practice in work and other activities, and the
relationship between understanding practice and the design of computer
artifacts: how can we understand work (the “W”)?
- Cooperation and its characteristics (e.g., describing the particulars
of articulation work and coordination mechanisms in a given setting): how
can we understand cooperative work (the “CW”)?
- Methods for investigating human practices: the nature of ethnography
and the role of other innovative methods in CSCW.
- Digital and other material artefacts in cooperative settings: how can
we support cooperative work in increasingly complex, networked settings
(the “CS”)?
The ECSCW conferences are single-track conferences that contribute to
developing an interdisciplinary ECSCW community. The conference format
facilitates critical discussion across disciplinary and national borders in
the field. An overview of earlier ECSCW conferences (and proceedings) is
available from http://www.ecscw.org/ <http://www.ecscw.org/>
Submission is now open for *Exploratory Papers.*
- The goal of this new type of submission is to attract smaller, focused
studies, works-in-progress, critical literature reviews, early results,
and/or provocative ideas that are not yet ready for a journal submission,
but could benefit from presentation and discussion within the ECSCW
community. While the length of exploratory papers is flexible, we expect
that papers will be no longer than 6,000 words (without references). With
exploratory papers, we aim at having lively sessions that will contribute
to shaping the future of practice-focused CSCW research. Exploratory paper
submissions will be reviewed by the ECSCW PC in one round of evaluation
(accepted or rejected). Accepted exploratory papers will be published in
the ECSCW/EUSSET Digital Library as an edited collection with ISBN and DOIs
(more information soon). Please follow the exploratory papers template. The
template can be downloaded as RTF
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/watyt6fit26hwtu/ECSCW%202017%20exploratory%20pape…>
or MSWord
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/m2391028w7zz0tz/ECSCW%202017_EP%20template.doc?dl…>
.
We adopt a single-blind review policy, therefore exploratory papers should
not be anonymised.
Authors of exploratory papers will retain the copyright and will then be
able to reuse their work in teaching, future publications, and other
scholarly and professional activities, and to deposit their work in a
university repository.
Exploratory Papers can be submitted via EasyChair at this link:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecscw2017
<https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecscw2017>
*Important dates*:
- Friday 27th January 2017: Submission deadline (5:00pm PDT)
- Wednesday 29th March 2017: Notifications due to authors. Exploratory
papers are either accepted or rejected. Small additional edits may be
requested for accepted exploratory papers before publication
- Friday 21st April 2017: Camera ready to be submitted for publication
in the ECSCW/EUSSET digital library
*August 28 – September 01 2017:* Conference in Sheffield
We are looking forward to receiving your submissions!
