5TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON LARGE-SCALE TESTING (LT 2016)
ABSTRACT
Many large-scale software systems (e.g., e-commerce websites,
telecommunication infrastructures, enterprise systems, etc.) must
service hundreds, thousands or even millions of concurrent requests.
Many field problems of these systems originate in their inability to
scale to field workloads, rather than feature bugs. In addition to
conventional functional testing, these systems must be tested with large
volumes of concurrent requests (called the load) to ensure the quality
of these systems. Large-scale testing includes all different objectives
and strategies of testing large-scale software systems using load.
Examples of large-scale testing are live upgrade testing, load testing,
high availability testing, operational profile testing, performance
testing, reliability testing, stability testing and stress testing.
Large-scale testing is a difficult task requiring a great understanding
of the system under test. Practitioners face many challenges such as
tooling (choosing and implementing the testing tools), environments
(software and hardware setup) and time (limited time to design, test,
and analyze). Yet, little research is done in the software engineering
domain concerning this topic. Moreover, prior large-scale testing
research is largely focused on telecommunication applications and
web-based e-commerce systems. Industry is focused primarily on creating
tools to automatically drive specified load into the system under test
(e.g., LoadRunner or Apache JMeter). In this workshop, we intend to
bring together industrial practitioners and researchers to establish and
grow an academic research community around this important and practical
research topic. Especially as large-scale testing is gaining more
importance, due to an increasing number of systems (on-premise and/or
cloud-based systems) that need to serve thousands or millions of users.

2ND INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF BIG DATA SYSTEMS
(PABS 2016)
ABSTRACT
Today, big data systems deal with volume, velocity, variety and veracity
of the application data which may be deployed on dedicated single high
performance systems (such as Netezza), dedicated commodity based
clusters or shared architectures such as clouds. We witness an explosive
growth in the complexity, diversity, number of deployments and
capabilities of big data processing systems such as Map-Reduce, Hbase,
Hive, Cassandra, Big Table, Hyracks, Dryad, Pregel and Mongo DB. The big
data system may use new operating system designs, advanced data
processing algorithms, parallelization of application, high performance
computing architectures such as GPUs etc. and clusters to improve the
performance. Looking at the volume of data to mine, and complex
architectures, one may need to monitor, analyze, identify or predict
bottlenecks to optimize the system and improve its performance.
The workshop on performance analysis of big data systems (PABS) aims at
providing a platform for scientific researchers, academicians and
practitioners to discuss techniques, models, benchmarks, tools and
experiences while dealing with performance issues in big data systems.
The primary objective is to discuss performance bottlenecks and
improvements during big data analysis using different paradigms,
architectures and technologies such as Map-Reduce, Hbase, MPP, Big
Table, NOSQL, graph based models and any other new upcoming paradigms.
We propose to use this platform as an opportunity to discuss systems,
architectures, tools, and optimization algorithms that are parallel in
nature and hence make use of advancements to improve the system
performance. This workshop shall focus on the performance challenges
imposed by big data systems and on the different state-of-the-art
solutions proposed to overcome these challenges.

2ND WORKSHOP ON CHALLENGES IN PERFORMANCE METHODS FOR SOFTWARE
DEVELOPMENT (WOSP-C 2016)
ABSTRACT
There are new challenges to product performance due to changes in
software and in the development process. Faster development means less
time for performance planning. The need for scalability and adaptability
increases the pressure while introducing new sources of delay in the use
of middleware. Model-driven engineering, component engineering and
software development tools offer opportunities, but their exploitation
requires effort and carries risks.
This second edition of WOSP-C will explore the challenges and seek to
identify the most promising lines of attack on them, through a
combination of research and experience papers, vision papers describing
new initiatives and ideas, and discussion sessions. Papers describing
new projects and approaches are particularly welcome. As implied by the
title, the workshop focus is on methods usable anywhere across the life
cycle, from requirements to design, testing and evolution of the
product. The discussions will attempt to map the future of the field.
This workshop repeats some aspects of WOSP98, the initial Workshop on
Software and Performance, which successfully identified the issues of
that time. The acronym WOSP-C reflects this. There will be sessions
which combine papers on research/experience/vision papers with
substantial discussion on issues raised by the papers or the attendees.
About a third of the time will be devoted to discussion on identifying
the key problems and the most fruitful lines of future research.

CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPERS
We invite submissions on new and innovative research results and industrial
experience reports in the area of software reuse. The guiding theme of
ICSR 2016 is:
Software reuse: bridging with social-awareness
Development online social networks are gaining ground lately with software
engineers participating in different fora collaborating and exchanging ideas
and expertise. Software reuse needs to utilize, but also strengthen, this new
form of synergies that can be built among engineers. ICSR special theme
aims to bring this aspect in software reuse by raising social-awareness,
strengthening the existing platforms and tools, and utilizing the vast
software information that exists in development social networks.
Amongst the numerous important challenges we identified the following
major topics for research focusing on reuse with social-awareness:
· Social network interactions between developers to support software reuse
· Utilization of online social development tools for software reuse
· Software reuse to enhance social-awareness
· Trust, security and semantic issues of social aspects of software reuse
Beyond those novel challenges for software reuse, we solicit submissions
dealing with all aspects of software reuse, including, but not limited to the
following ones:
· Domain analysis and modelling
· Asset search and retrieval
· Architecture-centric reuse approaches
· Component-based reuse
· Service-oriented architectures
· COTS-based development and reuse of open source assets
· Generative development
· Domain-specific languages
· Software composition and modularization
· Model-driven development
· Reengineering for reuse
· Software product line techniques
· Quality assurance for software reuse, such as testing and verification
· Reuse of non-code artifacts (process, experience, etc.)
· Economic models of reuse
· Benefit and risk analysis, scoping
· Legal and managerial aspects of reuse
· Transition to software reuse
· Industrial experience with reuse
· Light-weight reuse approaches
· Agile reuse
· Software evolution and reuse
· Reuse for mobile and ubiquitous applications
Paper Submission
Novel and well-founded work in the wider area of software reuse is highly
welcome. We look for strong research work which might have a strong
theoretical or empirical foundation. Theoretical work should in particular
provide innovative ideas and should be based on a sound theoretical basis.
Empirical work based on case studies, empirical research and experiments
is also highly welcome. Industrial submissions describing practical
experience are also strongly encouraged.
Submissions must conform to Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science
format, and are limited to 16 pages in length, in English. Short papers (up to

Track: Social media – The New Global Normal?

*** Deadline for Paper Submission: November 27th, 2015 ***
Track Description
Social media is the new reality which is changing world order. It is a major disruptive force which is transforming businesses, communication patterns between individuals, organizations and governments and changing everyday life of each and every individual irrespective of sex, race, nationality, religion and many other diversity factors. Social media is diffusing worldwide from remote villages in Vietnam to mountains of Siberia. It is changing how we read the news, teach, listen to music, watch TV and movies, conduct research, contact and communicate with peers, relatives and spouses, read books, get information and on and on. We are building like-minded communities of people we may never meet or even see but can communicate. Given this disruptive revolution it is necessary to study “Why’ and ‘How’ it is happening and ‘When’ and ‘What’ we can expect from this disruptive force. Social media generates ‘mega’ data which can be used to detect, extrapolate and brainstorm to find ”nuggets”. Many have referred to this as big data.
To study the four factors (4F’s: why, how, when and what), we divide its users as individuals (I), businesses (B), communities (C) and countries (CT). Any time a new disruptive force emerges there is the “good”, “bad” and “ugly” impact of it. Good is which is both legal and ethical, and ugly on the other extreme is both illegal and unethical. This creates a 4 (factors)x4 (stakeholders)x3(outcome) cube framework which can be used to study social media.
Many research questions arise when we are working with such a gigantic system.
Questions like why do individuals behave as they do and what good or ugly output comes out of this? How are businesses using this massive data to be more “custom-oriented”? How are groups using social media to create innovative products or innovative theories or how are they using this media to spread hate, terror or lies? How are countries involved in cyber warfare, hacking systems or introducing destructive viruses? Terrorism is becoming a global threat and social media is used for recruiting innocent young adults. Even the governments are having trouble competing with terrorists. Why small groups are defeating large technically sophisticated governments? Is it the message or poverty or just ignorance that is luring young kids? Why are young kids being lured by others via social networks? These questions need to be addressed. Analytical techniques and emerging computing power is enabling researchers to address some of these questions.
Social media, though popular, also faces many challenges of customs, socialization and politics. This is compounded due to its global nature. There is no consensus in what is good, bad or ugly on the internet. Researchers are constantly addressing these issues. As old issue are resolved, new challenges emerge that require knowledge from multiple disciplines such as information systems, social sciences, international management, leadership and political science. Given the richness and research potential of this area, it is essential to brainstorm and bring diverse points of view to develop underlying theory and frameworks. This track will attempt to accomplish these objectives.
Since social networking includes many different areas, we expect contributions from researchers beyond information system discipline.
The track invites both completed research papers and research in progress papers.
