Cyber-physical systems are based on networked embedded software systems which connect computational entities in a collaborative
manner with physical entities of the real world to achieve an overall purpose of its users. Together with available content and services
on the World Wide Web, they build networks of systems that integrate with the physical environment. This will lead to radical changes
in many application fields (e.g. energy, mobility, healthcare) and will have an impact on our daily lives. Many technology leaders are
already in the midst of a global race of repositioning and reinventing themselves by developing new dynamic CPS inspired business
models. However, mastering the engineering of complex and trustworthy CPS faces serious challenges, which have to be addressed
by the engineering methodologies of the future.
The EITEC workshop series aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners from various domains relevant to CPS dedicated to
mastering the challenges in engineering of CPS today and in the future. The workshop will be a venue to share results and new ideas,

COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND APPLICATIONS

Call for Papers - Information Systems Frontiers journal.
SPECIAL ISSUE ON: COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND APPLICATIONS
INTRODUCTION
Computational Intelligence (CI) is an offshoot of artificial intelligence
and has various tools such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic
algorithms, belief networks and chaos theory. Many hybrid models have also
been proposed. Today, Computational Intelligence has emerged from the fusion
of the fields of granular computing, neuro-computing and evolutionary
computing and becomes one of the most active research areas and widely used
techniques in information science and engineering. It has been claimed that
computational intelligence is the way of the future computing. Historically,
the areas of interest covered by computational intelligence are also known
under the term soft computing. Computational intelligence research has
become a vital part in the research of various fields like mathematics,
physics, aerospace, biochemistry, stock-market, electronic devices and
different other domains. It is widely recognized that research in this area
will lead to the development of excellent intelligent systems in different
domains.
A survey on the growth analysis of an industry/organization also underpins
the truth that CI approaches and optimization algorithms pave the way for
effective design, and implementation of business applications and successful
integration of business disciplines. The CI paradigms applied to big data
analytics and business intelligence systems is receiving much attention in
recently published journals and related reports. In addition, hybridization
of CI techniques such as neuro fuzzy approaches, artificial neural networks,
evolutionary computation, swarm intelligence, rough sets can be incorporated
to handle uncertainty and subjective vagueness during decision making
procedures. It is worth noting that the fusion of CI approaches and
optimization techniques have not been adequately investigated from the
perspective of big data analytics, and business intelligence. With this
perspective, this special issue has been designed to bring the cutting-edge
research in all aspects of computational intelligence and applications
including experimental and theoretical research, applied techniques and
real-world applications to the entire society to promote research, sharing
and development.

--- 22nd Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) ---
--- San Diego, August 11-13, 2016 - http://amcis2016.aisnet.org ---
Conference Theme: Surfing the IT Innovation Wave
Track: End-User Information Systems, Innovation, and Organizational
Change (SIG-OSRA)
Mini-track: IT Consulting as a Change Agent
Over the past few decades, the influence of the IT consulting industry
on the use and the management of IT in enterprises has increased
dramatically. Many enterprises rely on IT consulting services, and IT
consultants often act as change agents for their clients. They are
assigned to analyze, propose, and implement IT innovations, they serve
as an HR outsourcing partner for the IT department, and with many of
their projects they aim to change the client’s socio-technical
configuration. IT consultants can also serve as facilitators to transfer
IS research outcomes to actual organizational and IT changes in practice
and can thus contribute to the relevance of IS research.
But despite the prevalence of IT consulting projects in practice,
research has not covered IT consulting very intensively. Simultaneously,
IT consulting plays a big role in "surfing the IT innovation wave" in
the sense of the conference theme. Several challenges are specific to
the IT consulting industry: Existing methods used in different IS fields
(such as process management, enterprise architecture analysis, etc.)
have to be adopted to fit the efficiency constraints in consulting
projects, methods may need to be tailored to fit existing consulting
products; and consulting companies are one of the drivers for fashion
waves in the IT industry.
This mini-track aims to provide a forum for IT consulting research in
the IS discipline. Topics relevant to this mini-track may include but
are not limited to:
- IT consulting from a consulting research perspective
- IT consulting from a service science perspective
- IT consulting from a management perspective
- Theoretical foundations of IT consulting research
- IT consultants as change agents
- HR-related issues in IT consulting
- The relationship between IT consulting and strategy consulting
- Methods, method developing and method adoption in IT consulting
- IT consulting as HR outsourcing for the IT department
- Virtual IT consulting / telepresence in IT consulting
- Micro-tasking in IT consulting
- Knowledge management in IT consulting firms
- Education and training of IT consultants (skills & competencies,
job profiles, education topics, and teaching experiences)
- The use of IT in IT consulting companies
- The organization of internal consulting departments
- IT consultants as enterprise engineers
(e.g. enterprise architecture from a consultant’s perspective)
- Business processes of IT consulting companies
- The potentials and limitations of research transfer in cooperation
with IT consulting companies.
Papers must be submitted through the conference website:
http://amcis2016.aisnet.org/ and are subject to double-blind peer review.
Papers can be submitted as full papers (max. 10 pages, about 5,000
words) or Emergent Research Forum (ERF) papers (max. 5 pages, about
2,500 words). The former are to be presented in traditional sessions,
while the latter will be presented in an innovative format that includes
a slam presentation session during the program as well as a poster. Each
ERF slam presentation is limited to 3 minutes.
Important dates:
- January 4, 2016: Manuscript submissions for AMCIS 2016 begin
- March 2, 2016 10am PST: Deadline for AMCIS manuscript submissions

*Overview*
-----------------------------------------------------------
In this focus section we explore the position that innovation has in the
field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Innovation in HCI may be seen
as mainly incremental, introducing small changes in existing systems and
services. Design thinking, to the contrary, has been recognized as an
important driver of innovation in business, education, health, and other
important domains. As both HCI and design thinking are seen as
representing user-centred perspectives, we are interested in lessons
that could be learned from design thinking and whether they could help
move the innovation in HCI to a more central position, and beyond just
small changes.
Many similarities, and differences, can be found between design thinking
and HCI design approach to innovation. Key to design thinking is the
capacity to generate and explore design alternatives through user
research, ideation, rapid iteration on multiple alternatives, combining
parts from different design proposals, and evaluating with users. This
problem-solving procedure may be applied to the design of anything from
designing organizational changes, to designing products, services or
systems. HCI design processes, on the other hand, typically involve
analytical, requirements-driven approaches. HCI design processes may
also be more limited in scope, e.g. as they rarely aim at bringing about
organizational changes. HCI design processes have been described as
‘finding the right solution to the given problem’, as opposed to the
design thinking that seeks to solve the right problem, by questioning
the framing of the problem and opening the design space. We acknowledge
that within HCI, and in particular within participatory design, there is
a long tradition of work with issues along practical-political and
theoretical-conceptual lines that correspond to those of design
thinking. Thus, in conclusion, this special issue aims to explore these
differences and similarities in relation to innovation.

First Young Researchers Workshop on “Smart Cities for Sustainable
Development” will be held on 22 January 2016.
Increasing population and density have been generating many issues in
cities across countries. The proper managerial planning is required to
ensure well directed growth. Not only perfect infrastructure is
warranted, but a good planning for the growth is important. Billions
of people have been migrating towards cities in many countries which
leads to the growth of urban population. World bank predicts
voluminous rise in 2050 with is expected to be 75%.
The question is the understanding of how sustainable cities should
grow. Real time data observation and collection with analysis would
lead to produce new design and planning. Young researchers have
potential for such comprehensive real time data gathering and
analysis. This workshop is primarily intended to encourage young
researchers to collect live data across cities which can enable to
form smart cities for the near future.
The themes include but not necessarily limited to-
Modern infrastructure for cities(roads, power plants, water treatment
plants, sewage systems, transit systems)
