June 23rd, 2014
ACM Web Science Conference 2014
Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. USA -- June 23-26 2014
-------------------------------
*Research Methodologies for analyzing Cybercrime and Cyberwarfare*
Since the early days of Web Science, Cybercrime, Cyberwar and Darknet
activities have proven to be great topics for innovative and relevant
research. Criminal activities on the Web reflect deeply the violent
aspects of modern society. Most of the risks of the offline world (aside
from physical harm) are replicated on the Web. What is illegal offline
is illegal online.
The Web enables us to transact and share globally; such activities are
not confined to national borders, and so are not subject to clear
national jurisdiction. Due to the large scale nature of the Web, illegal
activities can be identified in many online human interactions, from
money laundering to illegal surveillance, from drug dealing to the sale
of weapons, from hacking to Cyberwar. Today, it is also possible to
detect conjunctions between criminal activities online. For example,
within the recent events in Syria, Cyberwarfare was conducted by an
electronic army which is mainly composed of sub-networks of criminal
hackers, organized crime groups and mercenaries, using crypto-currencies
to obfuscate their funding sources.
A recent paper in the printed edition of The Economist claimed that 'big
numbers and online crime go together, but few cybercrime surveys cite
the methodology they used'. This detracts from the scientific method,
reducing validity, reliability and repeatability of research. In the
UK, Cybercrime has been recognized as a Tier 1 Threat, making it more
important than ever to ensure that research into this area is thorough
and accurate. However, given the diverse and transformative nature of
cybercrime, quantifying such behavior can be truly challenging. Previous
research into social structures of groups engaged in Cybercrime is
suggesting that qualitative analysis might be more efficient than a data
oriented quantitative approach.
The motivation behind this workshop is to gather together researchers
from different disciplines and ask them to share and evaluate their
methodologies. How do we measure the impact of Cybercrime? How do we
identify Cyberattacks? What data regarding an attack needs to be
collected, and how should that be done? What methods are relevant to
detect influence or efficiency of people and technologies who work hard
to avoid detection?
Here, it is important to mention that the workshop is not intended to
focus on types of Cybercrime or Cybersecurity technologies. The Web
Science researcher is interested in understanding the impact of the Web
on society, and in observing how humans from around the World, in
various contexts, use the Web to produce transformations on a large
scale. This workshop will not be about fighting Cybercrime or fraudulent
activities online, but about how the Web Science researcher should
proceed, with an interdisciplinary approach, to identify, to understand,
to measure and to reflect the reality of Cybercrime. What do we know for
certain about Cybercrime & Cyberwarfare? Are we working towards
designing methodologies that will help us gain a better understanding of
the true situation?
-------------------------------
*Useful information:*
This workshop will allow participants to present research experiences,
good practices and ideas for analyzing Cybercrime and Cyberwarfare on

Lieber Herr Neumann,
Angelegenheit gezogen.
Wir sollten vorher zumindest 10 min sprechen. Das muss sich unter
Geschäftspartnern ausgehen.
Ansonsten mal bis morgen!
Gruß, Bernd

Venue
The BMSD sessions will be held at the Chambre des Metiers that is not
only in very close proximity to both the University of Luxembourg and
the CRP Henri Tudor but is also conveniently reachable by bus (for
around 20 minutes) from both the city center and the airport. Luxembourg
is the capital of the Grand Duchy, one of the founder states of the
European Union, where about 43 per cent of the half million inhabitants
are foreign.
This multicultural ambience of day-to-day contact with people from the
four corners of the Earth gives the small state an astonishingly
cosmopolitan outlook - not least thanks to the European institutions and
the financial centre. It is however far easier to get around the capital
(100 000 inhabitants) than it is in Berlin or Paris. The distances are
short. There is a lively nightlife scene around the fashionable bars of
Hollerich, Grund, and Clausen. Furthermore, there are plenty of sports,
leisure activities as well as events:
cinemas and climbing parks, mountain bike trails and an enormous
cultural range - from Jazz in the medieval city, contemporary art at
MUDAM, theatre in every language or classical music in one of the most
beautiful new buildings in Luxembourg, the Philharmonie. All this set
against the romantic backdrop of the medieval city (a UNESCO world
heritage site since 1994), rhe castle in the richy-forested north and
the vineyards along the Mosel.

Dear Gustaf Neumann,
Let me kindly inform you that the 9th International Joint Conference on Software Technologies (ICSOFT 2014 - http://www.icsoft.org/) steering committee cordially invites you to submit a paper to the ICSOFT 2014 Conference, to be held in Vienna, Austria. The deadline for paper submission is scheduled for March 18, 2014.
The purpose of ICSOFT - since 2013 designated as the International Joint conference on Software Technologies - is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners working in areas that are either related to new software paradigm trends or to mainstream software engineering and applications. ICSOFT is composed of two co-located conferences, each specialized in the aforementioned areas. Together, ICSOFT-PT and ICSOFT-EA aim at becoming a major meeting point for software engineers worldwide.
ICSOFT-PT (9th International Conference on Software Paradigm Trends) will focus on the four main paradigms that have been intensively studied during the last decade for software and system design, namely: Models, Aspects, Services and Context.
These four paradigms will drive the design and development of future software systems encompassing a large number of research topics and applications: from programming issues to the more abstract theoretical aspects of software engineering; from models and services to the most complex management information systems; distributed systems, ubiquity, data interoperability; context understanding and many other topics are included in the scope of ICSOFT-PT.
ICSOFT-EA (9th International Conference on Software Engineering and Applications) will have a practical focus on software engineering and applications. The conference tracks are "Enterprise Software Technologies", "Software Engineering and Systems Security", "Distributed Systems", and "Software Project Management".
Software technologies are essential for developing any enterprise information system, encompassing a large number of research topics and applications: from programming issues to the more abstract theoretical aspects of software engineering; from software security to mobile applications; distributed systems, ubiquity, software quality as well as project management and other related topics are included in the scope of ICSOFT-EA.
We would like to highlight the presence of the following keynote speakers:
- Emilia Mendes, Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden
- J. C. (Hans) van Vliet, Vrije Universiteit, Netherlands
- Ivona Brandic, Vienna UT, Austria
- Dimitris Karagiannis, University of Vienna, Austria
ICSOFT is interested in promoting high quality research as it can be confirmed by last year acceptance rates, where from 121 submissions, 7% were accepted as full papers. Additionally, 26% were presented as short papers and 29% as posters.
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.
A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book.
The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus.
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/).
ICSOFT will also held a Doctoral Consortium on software technologies intended to bring together Ph.D. students within these fields to discuss their research in an international forum.
Workshops, Special sessions, Tutorials as well as Demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea.
ICSOFT 2014 will be held in conjunction with ICETE 2014 (http://www.icete.org), SIMULTECH 2014 (http://www.simultech.org) and DATA 2014 (http://www.dataconference.org).
Registration to ICSOFT allows free access to the ICETE, SIMULTECH and DATA conferences (as a non-speaker).
We hope to welcome you in Vienna, Austria next August, 2014!
Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me.
Kind regards,
Marina Carvalho

Betreff: [AISWorld] CFP Samos Summit Workshop: Uses of Open Data Within
Government for Innovation and Efficiency

Samos 204 Summit Workshop: Uses of Open Data Within Government for Innovation and Efficiency
Forward-Looking, Visionary Approaches for Public Sector Information Sharing and Utilisation
Call For Papers
Open data provides an unprecedented opportunity for innovation around transparent, evidence-based decision making, public engagement and trust. Just as importantly, it also facilitates more efficient government with each department or agency better able to reuse data collected and managed by their colleagues (perhaps very distant colleagues). Public sector information (PSI) may be offered as "open data" in many forms and through different media: from simple datasets describing traffic or unemployment, to Web services linking and mashing information from different sources, to interactive visualisation of complex phenomena, to citizen-based data gathering and transmission. Through these different channels, new information is made available across the public and private sectors, to scientists, citizens and enterprises, all of whom are then able to benefit from each other's activities in a growing network effect.
That's the promise. So what's the reality? With many initiatives already in place, what innovations have we seen both in terms of curation and publishing, and in terms of data reusage? What are the effiency gains? How much of the promise of open data is being fulfilled? Are expectations being met? If so, how? If not, is it the expectations or the implementation that is wrong?
Expected Outcomes
The workshop report will show examples where innovation in the curation, publication and reuse of public sector information has and has not met the promise of open data, particularly in terms of improvements in operational efficiency. Where and how has this been achieved? Where initiatives that have fallen short of their promise, what might be the reasons for that? The expected outcome of the workshop will be helpful to EU Member States working to implement the revised PSI Directive.
As with all Share-PSI 2.0 workshops (a total of five are planned), this workshop will provide input to the W3C Data on the Web Best Practices Working Group, helping to maximise the impact of open data efforts around the world.
Participation
The Share-PSI 2.0 partners invite short position papers describing initiatives undertaken to make public sector information available and the impact that these efforts have had. These should not be academic papers but descriptions of the discussion or presentation you would like to offer. Each organisation or individual wishing to participate must submit a position paper explaining their interest in the workshop by the deadline. The intention is to make sure that participants have an active interest in the area, and that the workshop will benefit from their presence. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- uses of open data within government for innovation and efficiency proving the value of open data within the public sector;
- improvement in public service delivery;
- examples of open data utilisation for policy making purposes;
- visionary ideas on open data utilisation within society and policy modelling;
- new approaches for public sector information processing and visualisation;
- open data and citizen participation in information gathering / crowdsourcing;
- the open data feedback loop - communication between organizations that publish data and users of the data;
- collaboration between different communities.
Submissions will be reviewed by the programme committee within 2 weeks of the submission deadline.
Participation is free, however, there will be a charge to cover catering costs. There is no funding to support participants' travel and accommodation expenses.
Submission Guidelines
Papers should be a maximum of 5 pages long and should be submitted in a non-proprietary format (HTML, PDF, ePub etc.) via e-mail to group-share-psi(a)w3.org. Please include an abstract of the paper in your e-mail. Note that the archive for this e-mail address is visible to Share-PSI partners and W3C Team only.
Submissions by more than one author are welcome; however only the coordinating author (as indicated in the submission) of the selected paper will be invited to take part in the Share-PSI workshop. Additional authors will be able to attend the workshop only if space allows. All selected contributions and associated slides will be published in the Share-PSI 2.0 Web site after the announcement of results.

Call for Papers
HICSS 2015 Minitrack Title: Open Data Services
Part of the Decision Analytics, Mobile Services & Service Science Track
Details:
January 5-8, 2015
Grand Hyatt, Kauai
Website: www.hicss.hawaii.edu <http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/>
How does the value provided by open data services disrupt markets? Open
data is no longer a novelty, and its importance as a source of new
digital services is expected to grow fast. As the available data stack
grows, we can see the proliferation of innovative new services on many
areas (e.g. traffic, news etc.) based on two key trends: the opening of
the vast data resources collected by authorities and different
governmental units, and the increasing availability of new open sensor
data (for example, from mobile devices).
We seek novel research describing innovative services or service systems
created by employing open data. The submissions can be research papers,
case studies, or practitioner reports related to the publication of the
open data sets followed by new service development and their
implications. Furthermore, we are interested in infrastructural open
data usage, open data commons, peer-to-peer-produced open data and
?hybrid models? in addition to aggregation usage of both open and
proprietary data sets in unison to develop new services.
Studies employing either qualitative or quantitative research methods,
as well as design research are all welcomed. The submissions can be
research papers, case studies, or practitioner reports related to the
publication of the open data sets followed by new service development
and their implications. Of special interest are novel applications of
available open data in various domains, such as, preventive healthcare,
traffic, media, and travel, to name a few.
We will provide a fast track for best papers to a journal.
Relevant topics may include (but are not limited to):
·Novel approaches to development of open data applications
·Business value of open data services
·Business model destruction/creation caused by open data
·Open data service ecosystems
·Applications and models utilizing ?quantified self? data
·Mydata and similar personal data management approaches
·Location and sensor data based services
·Open data infrastructures
·Privacy issues related to open data and open data services
·Aggregation of open and proprietary data
Deadlines:
June 15: Submit full manuscripts for review. The review is double-blind;
therefore this submission must be without author names.
August 15: Acceptance notices are emailed to authors by the Review System.
At least one author of each accepted paper must immediately make plans to
attend the conference.
September 15: Accepted authors submit Final Paper. Early Registration
fee deadline. At least one author of each paper should register by Sept
15 in order secure publication in the Conference Proceedings.
