CALL FOR PAPERS

The 6th International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES 2014)
In-Cooperation with ACM, ACM SIGAPP and IFIP WG 2.6
http://sigappfr.acm.org/MEDES/14/
September 15-17, 2014
Buraidah-Al Qassim, Saudi Arabi
Description and Objectives
---------------------------
In the world of the Internet, the rapid growth and exponential use of digital medias leads to the emergence of virtual environments namely digital ecosystems composed of multiple and independent entities such as individuals, organizations, services, software and applications sharing one or several missions and focusing on the interactions and inter-relationships among them. The digital ecosystem exhibits self-organizing environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution of its "digital components", in which resources provided by each entity are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources mainly comprehend data management, innovative services, computational intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and value-creat
ing. The application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as data management, web technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources.
The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES) aims to develop and bring together a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. The conference seeks related original research papers, industrial papers and proposals for demonstrations.

Dear colleagues,
In line with the deadline extension for the IEEE CBI 2014, there is a
deadline extension for the workshop LABEM, co-located with the IEEE CBI
conference.
Extended deadline is 16.03.2014.
Below you will find more information about the event. Up-to-date
information can be found on http://labem.ee-team.eu.
1st Workshop: Lowering the adoption barrier of enterprise modelling
In conjunction with IEEE CBI'14 - Geneva, July 2014
Call for Papers - Lowering the adoption barrier of enterprise
modelling (LABEM)
Important dates
16 March 2014 Paper submission (submission site)
27 April 2014 Notification of acceptance
15 May 2014 Camera-ready copy
Aims
This workshop aims to raise the awareness on human dimensions
immanent to enterprise modelling, and to underline the need for their
better support by modelling technologies.
The success of an enterprise modelling effort heavily depends on
the involvement and participation of a broader stakeholder group (e.g.
process owners, domain experts, key decision-makers). In this context,
models could be considered to act as boundary objects between different
participants' communities -- typically, but not limited to --
stakeholders, on one side, and modelling experts on the other.
To allow for better involvement of such audience in the enterprise
modelling effort, the means used for modelling (i.e. primarily methods,
modelling languages and tools) should be intuitive and as non-intrusive
as possible. It is, however, a common observation in practice that
standard modelling notations and dedicated tools offer unsatisfactory
support with this regard, as they are rather focused on more technical
aspects of modelling. This not only creates burden to stakeholder
involvement, but also slows down the maturation of enterprise modelling
practices.
Effectively supporting these, inherently human, aspects of
modelling is a tremendous challenge. Nonetheless, there is a growing
research interest in this topic across different research communities,
in particular in software engineering, information systems, and
human-computer interaction. With this respect, LABEM workshop aims to
explore, discuss and elaborate on challenges related to including human
aspects of modelling into enterprise modelling research agenda.
The workshop is conceived as platform to interactively discuss how
this dimension should be addressed from the epistemological,
methodological, as well as technological perspective. We also aim to
discuss design-oriented approaches having the potential to lower down
the barrier to enterprise modelling.
Given a cross-disciplinary nature of the topic, we hope to attract
research contributions drawing on the surrounding disciplines, such as
computer science, information systems, management science, cognitive
science, linguistics, etc. In doing so, our ambition is to foster the
development of a cross-disciplinary community around this research topic.
Topics
We encourage both academics and practitioners to share their
ongoing research, reflections as well as their insights from practical
experiences. The suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
Philosophical, cognitive and linguistic aspects of
conceptual/enterprise modelling
Adaptability, configurability, extensibility of modelling
languages,
Flexibility of modelling tools
Non-intrusive and intuitive modelling support
Man-model interaction, e.g. tangible modelling, cognitive
aspects of interaction, etc.
Combined use of imprecise and/or incomplete models with more
structured and precise models
Challenges of dealing with incomplete and imprecise models,
relaxed conformance, etc.
Approaches to foster stakeholder involvement, participation and
collaboration in conceptual/enterprise modelling
Case studies, return on experiences
Event description
LABEM is intended as a highly interactive event and will be
co-located with the 16th IEEE Conference on Business Informatics (CBI
2014) in Geneva, Switzerland on July 14-17, 2014. As it aims to be an
interactive workshop, a short time will be given to paper presentations.
The presentations should preferably aim at discussion, presenting the
problems and issues related to lowering the adoption barrier of
enterprise modelling.
Paper types
The submissions should describe innovative and significant original
research relevant to the LABEM topics as listed. We strongly encourage
submissions adopting a cross-disciplinary perspective on the topic.
Paper submissions from industry as well as from young researchers (MSc
or PhD researchers) are also welcomed.
Two types of submissions are invited: regular papers (8 pages) and
short papers (4 pages).
Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the IEEE
camera-ready and should be submitted in PDF format at labem2014. Work
submitted for consideration must not have been published elsewhere and
must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere during the
duration of consideration.
At least one author of accepted papers is expected to present the
paper at the LABEM workshop.
Proceedings
The workshop proceedings will be included in the IEEE library
alongside the CBI conference proceedings.

Betreff: [WI] UMUAI Special Issue on Personality in Personalized Systems
Datum: Mon, 3 Mar 2014 18:20:01 -0700
Von: Sabine Graf <sabine.graf(a)ieee.org>
An: <wi(a)aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de>
********************************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue on Personality in Personalized Systems
User Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction:
The Journal of Personalization Research (UMUAI)
*** Extended abstract submission deadline: December 1, 2014
*** Paper submission deadline (for accepted abstracts): March 1, 2015
Special Issue Web site:
http://www.cp.jku.at/people/tkalcic/umuai_personality.html
UMUAI Web site: http://www.umuai.org/
*********************************************************************
SCOPE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE
Personality has been found to correlate with a number of real-world
behaviors. For example, it correlates with musical taste: popular music
tends to be liked by extroverts, whereas people with a tendency to be less
open to experience tend to prefer religious music and to dislike rock music.
Personality also impacts on the forming of social relations: friends tend to
be, to a very similar extent, open to experience and extrovert. Furthermore,
there is a strong correlation between personality and how people prefer to
learn, indicating that learning styles can be seen as a subset of
personality. Since personality has been shown to affect real-world user
preferences (e.g. preferences for interaction styles, preferences for
learning, preferences for musical genres), we might conclude that the design
of online services (e.g., personalized user interfaces, music recommender
systems, adaptive educational systems, and games) might also benefit from
personality studies.
This is the reason why researchers have recently explored the extent to
which personality traits impact on the use of interactive and hypermedia
systems. They found, for example, that personality is associated with
specific preferences for music genres online, and that this greatly impacts
on music-information retrieval services. Collaborative filtering techniques
have also benefited from assessing the users' personality traits. It has
also been shown that users open to new experiences (one of the big five
personality traits) tend to prefer more diverse and serendipitous items
(e.g., movies). Furthermore, learning styles have been heavily used in
educational systems to personalize courses in terms of the structure and
presentation of learning materials. In the context of games, for example, it
has been found that personality seems to impact on the motivation for
playing online games. Also, certain personality traits have been found to
correlate with communication styles and, as a consequence, the adoption of
location-sharing social media.
The five-factor model of personality, or the Big Five, is the most commonly
used set of personality concepts and one of the most reliable and
comprehensive models of personality. In this model, an individual is
associated with five scores that correspond to the five main personality
traits. The names of those traits form the acronym OCEAN: Openness,
Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.
Other models of personality are, for example, the Four Temperaments (the
oldest general model), the Benziger brain type (a work-related model), the
Belbin team roles model, the Myers-Briggs types (general and team-working
model), the RIASEC vocational model or the Bartle types (describing
personalities in video games).
While personality traits are normally identified by asking people to
complete a questionnaire, researchers have recently shown that personality
traits can be extracted implicitly from the users' streams (e.g., tweets,
Facebook updates) without resorting to time-consuming questionnaires.
Furthermore, players' behaviors in games have been investigated and can also
provide information about a player's personality. Similarly, several
researchers have conducted studies on using data from learners' behaviors in
a course to automatically identify their learning styles.
TOPICS
The topics of interest for this special issue include (but are not limited
to):
* Personality models for personalized systems;
* Personality prediction/extraction/assessment from behavior and/or
preference data in
* games
* multimedia content (e.g., music, films, etc.)
* social media
* educational systems
* business applications
* other modalities (e.g., mobile devices etc.)
* Automatic prediction/extraction/assessment of other (e.g., lower-level or
application- specific) personality factors such as
* learning styles
* cognitive styles
* communication styles
* thinking styles
* Privacy issues;
* Enhancing user/learner models with personality;
* Evaluation of personality-based personalized services;
* Novel applications considering personality including
* personality in games
* personality and learning styles in educational systems
* personality and multimedia content
* personality in social media
* personality and recommender systems
PAPER SUBMISSION & REVIEW PROCESS
The prospective authors must first submit an extended abstract of no more
than 4 single-spaced pages, formatted with 12-pt font and 1-inch margins,

Due to a few requests, we extended our two-page proposal due on March 7, 2014. We are seeking all types of Cloud Computing demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, case studies and latest development. We welcome different points of views from business school, social science, law, computing and engineering. You may be notified earlier than the scheduled date. The book full chapter will be due on April 30, 2014 (at least 8000 words). Submission of the proposal and book chapter must be done on the system. We have a double-blind review process. 2 pages are fairly easy - some of you can complete it in hours. The best 8-10 chapters will be selected by our new journal at a later date.
