ESWC 2015 - 12th Extended Semantic Web Conference 2015
Call for Semantic Web Challenges Proposals
=============================================================
After last year’s success, ESWC organizers are glad to announce that
the Challenges Track will be included again in the program of ESWC
2015! Three challenges were held last year [1] and allowed the
conference to attract a broader audience spanning across disciplines
related to Semantic Web (such as recommender systems). This year, a
call for challenges is open in order to open the selection of
challenges to be held at the conference.
The purpose of challenges is to showcase the maturity of the state of
the art on tasks common to Semantic Web community and adjacent
academic communities, in a controlled setting of rigorous evaluation.
Semantic Web Challenges are an official track of the conference, and
the challenge participants, must provide, in addition to their
participation to the challenge, a paper describing their approach.
This paper must undergo a peer-review by experts relevant to the
challenge task, and will be published in the official proceedings.
Challenge organizers are encouraged to submit proposals with the
following qualities:
- More than one task. Tasks should be independent (participants can
participate in one or more). All tasks should be related to Semantic
Web. Semantic Web technologies should play a prominent role.
- Task descriptions correspond to the interests of a wider audience.
We encourage the challenge organizers to propose at least one basic
task that can be addressed by a larger audience from their community.
Obtaining comments from potential future participants can also help
drive more contenders to the challenge.
- Clear and rigorous definition of the tasks. For each task, you
should define a deterministic and objective way to verify if the goal
of the task has been achieved, and to which extent it has been
achieved (if applicable). The best way is usually to provide detailed
examples of input data and expected output. The examples must cover
all the possible situations that can occur while performing the task,
and should leave no place to ambiguity about whether in a particular
case the task is done or not.
- Valid dataset (if applicable). You should find or create a dataset
that will be used for the challenge. In any case, you must specify the
provenance of the dataset (if it contains human annotation – how were
those obtained). You must make sure you have the right to use/publish
this dataset and clearly state the license for its use within the
challenge. The dataset should be split in two parts – the training
part, and the evaluation part. The training part contains the data,
and the results that should be obtained when performing the task. As
for the evaluation part, you should only publish the data, and make
sure that the correct results have not previously been available to
the participants. When proposing the challenge you must provide
details on the dataset and on the way it is/will be created – the
dataset can be made available later.
- Challenge Committee: Composed of at least 3 respected researchers
with experience in the tasks of the challenge. They help evaluate the
papers submitted by the participants, and also validate the evaluation
procedure.
- Evaluation metrics and procedure. For each task there must be a
number of objective criteria (metrics), e.g. precision and recall. The
evaluation procedure and the way in which the metrics will be
calculated must be clearly specified and made transparent to
participants.
Selection criteria:
- Relevance for the Semantic Web community
- Potential number to interested participants
- Rigor and transparency of the evaluation procedure
- Endorsements (from researchers working on the task, from
industry players interested in results, from future participants)

For further information please go to:
http://www.ecis2015.eu/participation/submissions
*Description of the Track:*
A quarter-century after the publication of one of the most prominent
models in Information Systems (IS) adoption and diffusion research, this
track focuses on a better understanding of various factors leading to
diverse behavioral responses such that some IS and information and
communication technologies (ICT) are successfully adopted while others
are rejected. Although this field of study is considered to be one of
the more mature research areas within the IS discipline, constantly
emerging technologies, contexts of use, and stakeholder groups ensure
that the area provides a lot of potential for exciting and fruitful
investigation. Indeed, the emergence of such new technologies, contexts,
and users raises the issue of whether previous research findings remain
applicable to these new circumstances or whether new theoretical
explanations are required. Especially in terms of methodologies, more
approaches addressing these new circumstances and capturing all nuances
in adoption decision making are clearly needed. Furthermore, new
research approaches on collecting (i.e. experiments, action research,
mixed methods, longitudinal approaches) and analyzing data (i.e. latent
growth models, agent based modeling, data mining) may provide a
significant step towards a better understanding of these factors driving
and inhibiting IS usage.
The aim of the track therefore is to provide a common platform for the
presentation and discussion of original research into issues surrounding
IS/ICT adoption, discontinuation, and rejection from various stakeholder
group perspectives and at societal, organizational, and individual
level. Unique papers with great ideas and novel contributions will be
fast-tracked to a journal.
*Topics of interest include **(but are certainly not limited to): ***
* Individual and/or group level acceptance versus resistance to IS/ICT
* Technology design factors influencing IS/ICT adoption and diffusion
* Organizational adoption and diffusion of IS/ICT (e.g., ERP, ECM, HRIS)
* Adoption of IS/ICT in a residential/ household context
* Adoption or diffusion of IS/ICT in specific sectors (such as government)
* Adoption and diffusion of smart phones, wearable devices, and other
mobile technologies
* Adoption and diffusion of social networking technologies and other
Social Media applications
* Socio-economic / geographical / cultural factors relevant to IS/ICT
adoption
* IS/ICT acceptance before/in/after organizational IS/ICT
implementation projects
* The digital divide (e.g., broadband, social inclusion)
* The role of personality characteristics (e.g., Big 5) in adoption of ICT
* Theoretical essays, reviews, concepts, policies, and tools of and
for IS/ICT adoption and diffusion
* The dark side of technology adoption -- drawbacks, social, and
ethical issues
* Different forms of IT usage -- adaptive, excessive, and motivated Use
* Methodological issues regarding IT adoption and diffusion

Betreff: [AISWorld] CfP: 2nd International Workshop on Open Badges in
Education (OBIE 2015)

====================================
2nd International Workshop on Open Badges in Education (OBIE 2015): From
Learning Evidence to Learning Analytics
- https://sites.google.com/site/obie2015ws/ -
=> in conjunction with the 5th International Learning Analytics and
Knowledge Conference (LAK'15), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA, March 16-20,
2015 (http://lak15.solaresearch.org/)
IMPORTANT DATES
====================================
* 16 January 2015: Paper submission deadline
* 02 February 2015: Notification of acceptance
* 16 February 2015: Camera-ready paper
OVERVIEW
========
Open digital badges are Web-enabled tokens of learning and
accomplishment. Unlike traditional grades, certificates, and
transcripts, Open Badges (OBs) include specific claims about learning
accomplishments and detailed evidence in support of those claims. The
thinking and negotiations that go into deciding what claims and evidence
to include in badges often result in highly credible and valuable
information about the accomplished learning.
Considering the richness of data associated with OBs - (meta)data stored
in badges themselves, primarily requirements, achievement evidence and
timestamps, as well as data about learning pathways followed by students
(i.e., learning traces) - it is reasonable to expect a very powerful
predictive element at the intersection of OBs and Learning Analytics.
The data associated with OBs might offer highly valuable input not only
to predict what may be a good fit for the next learning activity, but
perhaps even what a learner is capable of in a certain timeframe. This
fertile ground could have substantial implications for recommending and
exposing students to a variety of curricular and co-curricular pathways
utilizing data sources far more nuanced than grades and achievement tests.Â
AUDIENCE
=========
OBs connect educational providers and practitioners, entrepreneurs, and
researchers in discourses on teaching, learning, assessment, digital
credentials, and digital education in general. While preserving its
general focus on opportunities and challenges associated with OBs, this
2nd installment of the OBIE workshop will be primarily intended for
those interested in the intersection of OBs and Learning Analytics. This
intersection includes gathering, integration, and analysis of data and
resources associated with OBs, with the ultimate aim of providing
teachers, learners and other stakeholders in the ever-increasing OBs
ecosystem with informative and relevant feedback, and predictive
functions. Participants in the workshop will be exposed to presentations
and discussions on the position and role of digital badges in
instructional design, on compelling data and analytics challenges and
opportunities that the OB infrastructures open for the Learning
Analytics field, and on different types and designs of OB systems and
their potential to impact the future of education. Â Â
TOPICS OF INTEREST
==================
The workshop would welcome submissions from the following (though not
restrictive) list of topics:
* Challenges and opportunities associated with the use of Learning
Analytic methods and techniques in the domain of OBs.
* Different kinds of feedback for teachers and students that could be
generated based on the data and resources associated with OBs.
* Leveraging learners' badge-earning pathways as means of i) assisting
badge issuers in improving their instructional design, and ii)
scaffolding learners' reflection over the learning process.
* How different kinds of badges - e.g., participatory badges vs.
assessment-based badges - impact learners' engagement in disciplinary
discourse?
* Intersection of OBs and the recent initiatives to open and share
analytics data - how openness and visibility affect the functionality of
badges as a motivator of behaviour?
* Combined use of OBs with other recent education-oriented initiatives
(e.g., xAPI, LRMI), to allow for a greater insight into to evidence
associated with badges.
* Examining learning pathways that emerge in large scale OBs efforts
like the seven-city Cities of Learning in 2014.
* Using semantic technologies to i) analyze evidence contained in
digital badges, ii) allow for a comparison and alignment of badges
issued by different organizations, and iii) interpret the meaning of a
collection of heterogeneous badges.
SUBMISSIONS
==========================
We welcome the following types of contributions:
  * Demonstration abstracts (up to 2 pages)Â
  * Short research papers (up to 5 pages)Â
  * Full research papers (up to 10 pages).
All submissions must be written in English and formatted according to

This special issue of the KM&EL international journal is dedicated to
coverage of advances in the emerging area of eHealth literacy. Methods
for assessing the extent to which people can find, understand and use
health information obtained from electronic sources (i.e. eHealth
literacy) are needed in order to improve the effectiveness of healthcare
in the age of mobile and virtual healthcare. Indeed an increasing number
of information systems and resources have been designed for use by the
general population as well as specific patient and lay populations such
as the elderly, disabled and the young. However, there currently exists
a huge range of systems and health IT applications and the extent to
which they meet the information and understanding needs of end users is
often questionable. Indeed many health systems, websites and on-line
resources have been criticized for not only lack of usability but also
for issues related to the content of information, its understandability,
its usefulness and its presentation. In addition, new methods (that can
draw from areas such as health literacy, as well as user-centered and
participatory health IT design processes) are needed to fine-tune and
improve the uptake of information presented to users in order to improve
the health of the general population.
In this call we invite papers that describe advances in understanding
health literacy as it relates to use of on-line health resources and the
concept of eHealth literacy itself. In addition, the special issue is
interested in new approaches to improving health and eHealth literacy,
and improving the adoption of systems and information resources targeted
to patients, lay people and the general population, as well as specific
subgroups (such as the elderly, disabled and young people). This can be
through improved educational initiatives as well as improved system and
information resource design and evaluation. Studies evaluating health
and eHealth literacy using information technologies are also welcome.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* eHealth literacy as a concept
* The relation of eHealth literacy to health literacy research
* Advances in the application of concepts from eHealth literacy in the
design and deployment of new information technologies
* Research on the potential and opportunities for improving the uptake
of health related information using eHealth, web technologies,
mobile health applications and virtual health applications
* Approaches to measuring and assessing eHealth literacy
* Approaches to assessing user needs regarding health information and
its understanding and translation into practice
* Approaches to designing health information systems for the public
that better take into account the information needs, understanding,
capacity as well as limitations of end users
* Best practices for incorporating advanced health information
technology into daily health practices and promotion.
* Approaches and technologies for providing distance health
information and support to lay people and patients
* Results of studies examining eHealth literacy
* Educational practices and approaches to improving eHealth literacy
* New developments, trends and approaches to e-learning and distance
education of the general public that takes into consideration
eHealth literacy
This issue is designed to elicit both theoretical and applied papers
that describe efforts around eHealth literacy. We are interested in both
theoretical and applied papers that aim to improve healthcare and
specifically improve uptake of health information by the wider
population using information technologies and online resources. We would
like to stimulate interest in the issues across academia, practice,
industry, research and policy and therefore we welcome focused papers
from all sectors.
